Your 14 days are up, however you could take your case to Apple Inc. regarding same,
    however those are the stipulations.
RAM cannot be upgraded however, period, its permanent on the logic board after mfg.
As for the SSD (solid state drive), upgrading same is a bad premise 9 times out of 10.
No notebooks is a mass storage device, and you need an external HD for data redundancy and backups regardless.
data that is static on your SSD and not used very often has no logical reason to be ON the notebooks, and best saved on a superslim external HD ($60)
SSD are very expensive, even a small one,  HD are cheap as dirt and users are recommended to have one regardless for many good reasons.

To save space on the computer, Apple has decided to solder the memory onto the logic board on the MacBook Pro with Retina display and the MacBook Air, and that's why you can't add more memory after buying the Mac. This only applies to these computers, not for the other ones

They have been calling their notebook a MacPro for a year. Or is it this?

  • Upgrading to 8gb ram on macbook pro

    Hi,
I have a 13inch macbook pro from mid 2010. It currently runs on 4gb ram but recently, i've been running a lot of programs and was thinking about upgrading to 8gb ram. Will upgrading the ram to 8gb make the macbook pro heat up a lot? Other than heating up, is there any problems upgrading the ram to 8gb?
    Thanks,

No noticable heat increase issues.  More Ram is always better.

  • Can I use a Single Channel 8GB RAM in late-2009 17" 2.8 Core 2 Duo

    Hi guys.
I've been beginning to run into the problems with the RAM slots on the logic board, where only one slot will work instead of both.
I upgraded to 8GB of RAM from the 4GB setup a while back and only began having the problem within the last year or so, on and off. I've tried using different 2x4GB sticks, from Crucial and Mushkin and the effect is the same.
Logical deduction makes me think it's the familiar issue with the RAM slots on the logic board.
I really don't want to spend the $ for a logic board replacement, so will a single stick 8GB work on my MBP? I need the 8GB because I do a lot of photo editing and multi-tasking on the go.
And while there is no single 8GB stick rated at PC3 8500, I read that as long as the memory sticks have the same number of pins (204) and the clocking speed is at the minimum rating (1066), any stick faster will automatically reclock itself to work with said slot.
I tried it by purchasing this stick:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226266
But when I mounted it, I got the MBP beeping and no boot, even after resetting the SMC and trying it in both slots.
Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone provide any input as to what I could do to get around this temperamental RAM slot issue?
As of now, both slots seem to be providing my 8GB of RAM but I know that when I get up on the go again, and my laptop bag experiences any sudden motion, it's going to knock it back down to 4GB via 1 channel, knocking out the other slot.
    TIA. Any advice appreciated.

That is a early 2009 MBP.
The only one on OWC's site is this one, but it says, for 13-inch only (*For MacBook Pro 13.3" Mid 2010 (Model ID MacbookPro 7,1) Only*))
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/8566DDR3S8GB/
    Will it still work?
Not likely.  The problem that you are faced with is that there are no 8 GB modules with those specifications, at least that I am aware of.  4GB is the maximum amount that you will be able to install with only one functioning RAM bay.
I would bring the MBP into an Apple store genius bar and see if the RAM bays can be repaired, what is involved what the cost would be.  These evaluations are FREE regardless of the age of the MBP.
    Ciao.

  • Upgraded to 8GB RAM - Windows 7 64-Bit Not Using All of It

I just upgraded my 3.02GHz MacbookPro to 8GB RAM and in both Mac and Windows (64-Bit) it acknowledges that I have 8GB installed. However in Windows 7's task manager it shows:
    Total Physical Memory 8167MB
    Cached 4500MB
    Available 4557MB
    Free 91MB
and it shows I'm only using 3.51GB....Why only 91MB free? In Adobe Illustrator I am getting not enough RAM errors so it seems like Windows 7 is tapping out at the old 4GB ceiling. Anyone know if this is a setting that is easily modified so I can use all 8GB?
    Thanks!

  • HT1529 Upgrade to 8GB RAM & an SSD OR purchase New MacBook Pro?

I am looking at upgrading my older mid-2009 2,53 Mhz MacBook Pro to 8GB RAM PLUS a 240GB SSD for around $380. Is it worth doing this or biting the bullet and purchasing a new MBP...lots more expensive. I am not a professional graphics or photographer but have PS6 and LR5 installed and only 4GB RAM....very, very slow. I like doing photo editing etc. Any advice is very much appreciated. Thanks

First I suggest that you go through this comprehensive trouble shooting document and see if you can optimize the performance of your MBP as is is currently configured.  The monetary outlay will be zero.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3521
If you look at the Crucial web site, you should be able to install 8GB RAM and a 240 GB SSD for $282.
    http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=MacBook Pro (15-inch%2C Mid 2009)&Cat=RAM
Personally, I would install the RAM first and see if that makes a meaningful difference.  Install the SSD only as a last resort.  I have an antipathy towards SSDs based mainly on cost.  Others have different opinions.
Also update your OS to 10.6.8.
Do not be seduced by quad core CPUs.  They will perform faster only if the application is designed to take advantage of all cores.  Most applications are not (at least the older ones).
    Ciao.

  • Upgraded to 8GB RAM getting weird errors...

I recently purchased some new RAM to upgrade to 8GB on my T500.  I am now having issues with certain features on my machine.  For instance I cannot use Windows Update, nor can I watch any shows on Netflix.  When I run the ThinkVantage hardware test I get 'Internal Errors' for all tests except the windows memory test which passes.  I also get no errors when I use the Windows Memory Test program.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've already had to RMA/Return the original 8 GB ram chips I bought the first time through due to incompatibility.
    Solved!

Well, I re-installed my previous RAM and ran the various Lenovo Tests on it; the results show that they passed.  Here's the Report that was generated compared to the 2x4GB arrangement:

What's peculiar is that the Windows Update issue persists regardless of which RAM installed.  Any thoughts on what can/could be the culprit or how to remedy it?

  • Just upgraded to 8Gb RAM...Now what?

    Hi everybody,
I just upgraded my MBP to 8Gb of RAM. The plug-ins i use that can benefit from that are EXS24, Kontakt4 and Omnisphere. I don't see any OS level tool that can confirm me where the RAM is used(No Spectrasonics or N-I app showing up in Activity Monitor). I want to stay on 32-bit as most of my other plug-ins are not 64-bit ready yet.
When i went to the EXS24 virtual memory prefs, it was already set up to use the memory outside of Logic. Do i have to do anything else like untick the pref and reenable it after? In Logic or mainStage, when i enable the Omnisphere server mode, the CPU goes up to the roof. Anybody seeing this behaviour?
Feeling a bit futile to ask all that when you see what's going on in Japan right now, but if anybody has some cues or info links about going 8Gb RAM, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. If i understand well, if i want to stay with Logic 32-bit, i'll have to choose in the EXS24 pref if it's Kontakt and Omnisphere that get the other 4 Gb and EXS24 lives inside Logic boundaries or the opposite?

  • MBP 13" runs hot now that I upgraded to 8GB RAM

Has anybody else experienced that their MBPro runs noticeably hotter (and noisier) since they upgraded the system RAM to 8GB?
Just throwing it out there... making sure I'm not crazy

Assuming you installed the correct RAM it probably only needs SMC & PRAM resets.
    _SMC RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    _PRAM RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.

  • Can Illustrator really make use of 8GB RAM?

    Hello,
I'm thinking of upgrading my 17" 2010 Core i7 Macbook Pro from the curretn 4GB of RAM to 8GB or RAM as the prices have come down considerably. (around £40.00).
I've already posted a thread on a mac forum, but I thought that posting in on here would also be benificial.
Basically I would like to know is, is there any point doubling the RAM? Can Illustrator realy utilise 8GB of RAM? My files are becoming larger and so Illustrator runs slower - I've monitered this in Activity monitor and the pages in/out seem to have a 10% difference which is apparantley a indication of more RAM needed. I've also seen a few 'Not enough memory' messages in Illustrator.
    Thanks for your input.
    Nathan

Illustrator on the Mac is a 32Bit app currently. It can only utilize ~3GB of RAM. Hopefully, since Illustrator is one of the last remaining non-64Bit Adobe apps, that'll change in the near future. If you are buying for performance today.. it won't make any differnce. If you are buying for performance next year or 6 months from now, it may make a world of differnce.
You can still launch and use Illustrator on a 64bit system (I do every day) but it won't see any additional RAM. That does not mean more RAM isn't helpful. Illustrator can use it's ~3GB and the OS cna utilise the rest. This does make things faster even if Illustrator is still limited. In addition, I don't know any Mac users that use Illustrator and do not use Photoshop. Photoshop is a 64bit app and will use as much RAM as you feed it.

  • Mac Mini upgrade to 8gb RAM?

    Can Mac Mini (2009 model) 2.0GHz/1GB 1066MHz DDR3 upgrade ram to 8gb (2x4GB)?

Not sure how you can say something is not possible purely based on the fact that OWC doesn't sell a kit. You have to admit that is pretty ridiculous. If you had some technical knowledge backing your statements they would hold more merit. I think the guy doesn't believe you because you don't have any real information and you are not offering any expertise.
Does anyone with real knowledge of such things know if the Mini can be expanded beyond 4GB?
Someone above commented that OWC has tried unsuccessfully to upgrade the Mini. Is there a link to this info?
