Can this two servers be mounted in clustered mode with processors specs a little different

Hello and thanks for helping us. I'm very thankful with the community for the labor that you do here. Really i have two questions :
How to know if this two processor are compatible to make a clustered environment for two OVM Servers. The processor specs :
Processor 1 http://ark.intel.com/products/47923/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5640-12M-Cache-2_66-GHz-5_86-GTs-Intel-QPI
Processor 2 http://ark.intel.com/products/52577/Intel-Xeon-Processor-X5675-12M-Cache-3_06-GHz-6_40-GTs-Intel-QPI
   2. If i don´t have live migration on how is the best way to implement H.A, i just want to make that if one OVM server down i just migrate the VM to another .
Sorry for my bad english .
Thank you so much for your help. Please have a good day.

Hi,
when you discover a VM server OVM will assing it to a generic cpu-specific cpu-compatibility group. You can make that group visible in OVMM by configuring the UI to display the CPU-compatibility group. However, configuring those CPU compatibility groups is only available from the OVM CLI and not the WebUI, but it is actually possible to have two different CPUs in the same compatibility group and have HA and live migrations working.
It basically goes like this:
- logon to the Oracle VM Manager host using ssh or use a console session and perform something like this:
ssh -l admin -p 10000 127.0.0.1 "create  CpuCompatibilityGroup name=some_group_name"
ssh -l admin -p 10000 127.0.0.1 "add Server oyour_vm_server to  CpuCompatibilityGroup name=some_group_name"
Cheers,
Budy

  • How can I extend an Airport Express in WLAN mode with an additional Airport Express box

I'm trying to extend the existing WLAN with an additonal Airport Express box. I read through a bunch of comment throughout the communities here but didn't find what I'm looking for.
    My actual Installation consists:
A Time Capsule attached to the Internet router which set up my 1. WLAN range
This WLAN has been extended with an Airport Express BOX creating my extended 2. WLAN range
Now I intend the extend the 2nd WLAN of the Airport Express BOX with an additional Airport Express (creating a 3rd WLAN range) but don't find a way on how to set it up correctly.
The physical situation of the location dosen't allow me to add / replace cabeling (Ethernet or similar). If there is any chance I'd like to avoid power-line connections. And, I'm aware of the impacted bandwith on WLAN / WLAN extensions, but can deal with this.
Regards and thanks for any advice

Two requirements that must be met to do what you want.......
    1) An AirPort Express 802.11n must be used. Check the Model No on the label on the side of the Express. It needs to be A1264. Any other model number will not do what you want.
    2) The Express must be configured to "Join a wireless network" and the option to enable Ethernet Clients must be checked.
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
The box to "Allow Ethernet Clients" must be checked
Please check to verify that your AirPort Express meets both requirements

  • How can i get my phone out of recovery mode with out restoring it

You will need to restore your phone to get out of recovery mode, if you backup on a regular basis, then you can restore to that backup.

  • Two servers (serverSocket) behind the SAME firewal !?l

    Hello !
I dont know if this is the right forum for this qusetion,
and maybe the question is really stupid, but ...
I made a little client/server application, just to
play around with sockets and serverSockets.
It works fine, but now i ask myself:
What happens, if there are two of my servers running on two
different computers in the SAME LAN behind the SAME
firewall/internetgateway, and both are listening on the SAME
    port ?
F.e. if the extern IP of this LAN/(its gateway) is
204.556.234.123, and a client in the internet is connecting
to it on the port, on which the two servers behind the firewall
    are listening, WHO'S ANSWERING ?
(If this port is set to "open and forward" in the firewall)
The one with the shorter patch-cable ? ;)
How is it possible for the client to differenciate
this two servers in that LAN?
The only logical solution i found is that this two servers
have to listen on different ports,
but i think there has to be another explanation and/or solution.
Do i have to take care about situations like that in my
    server-application ?
I have the feeling that i have to...somehow.
OK, you see i dont know much about this...
i would be very thankful for every hint and explanation.
    Thank you very much,
    greetings,
    huni.

F.e. if the extern IP of this LAN/(its gateway) is
204.556.234.123, and a client in the internet is
    connecting
to it on the port, on which the two servers behind the
    firewall

(If this port is set to "open and forward" in the
firewall)Whichever one the firewall is told to forward it to!
The two computers running your server have unique addresses on the internal network. The firewall will forward incoming connections to one of those addresses. Maybe it can do some simple "load balancing" by forwarding some connections to one server and some to the other, but still, any particular connection will only go to one server.

  • 3G vs Edge - Can this be true?

An article I read on line:
*We've all read articles about why the iPhone won't sell because it doesn't boast the latest and greatest 3G technology, which can transmit data at 1.8, 3.6, 7.2, and in some places, 14.4 megabits per second. Instead, Apple chose to go with the more ubiquitous EDGE system, which tops out at 0.2 mbits per second here in the US, and presumably will do the same in the UK and Germany when the iPhone launches there next month.*
*But the question left unasked as been, "Does 3G really improve the user experience dramatically?" Most pundits would reply, "Well, of course Internet experiences improve with higher bandwidth. That's why the world went broadband." And if the pundit is having a bad day, they'll add "Duh."*
*Funny thing though. They're wrong. Bandwidth doesn't affect the mobile phone experience nearly as much as most people think. And in some cases, high bandwidth Internet is actually worse for the user than a low-bandwidth one.*
    *How can this be? Because:*
*People confuse network bandwidth with latency. Think of latency as how long it takes bits to go from the server to your phone, while bandwidth is how many lanes of highway those bits can use to get there. Because mobile phone networks use narrow-band radio signals, their latency is on average 2 to 10 times that of a wired network. And because of the way the Web HTTP protocol works, the quality of a Web user experience depends much more on low latency than high bandwidth, because Web pages typically contain lots of different elements such as pictures, ads, and widgets coming from many different sources. The result: loading Web pages on a 3G phone may actually take about the same amount of time as a phone loading those pages over an EDGE network because all the network time is spent setting up and tearing down connections, not actually sending big amounts of data. And so far, most carriers have preferred to optimize bandwidth at the expense of latency. Why? Because it's more marketable (see erroneous analyst quote above).*
*High bandwidth radio networks are more error-prone. Because of the sophisticated signaling needed to do high-data rate transmission over narrow-band radios, higher bandwidth networks don't do as well in real-world radio environments as a lower speed network will. Multi-path interference, doppler frequency changes, and radio noise disrupt high-bandwidth signals more than low. And since phones using TCP connections -- the dominant connection type used in Web browsing -- have to retransmit data that is corrupted by errors, even an error rate only a few percent higher will dramatically slow down Internet experiences.*
*Phone processors and software don't necessarily keep up with fast data transmission. I noted this phenomenon when I compared my Nokia E61i with the Apple iPhone. Despite the Nokia's 3G and WiFi network capability, the phone actually felt significantly slower than Apple's iPhone on the same networks. Why? Because the Nokia processor/OS/software combination was simply slower at moving bits than the iPhone is. The result: even with a 54 megabit WiFi network -- a network several times faster than the fastest 3G network -- the Internet experience on the Nokia was significantly slower and poorer than that of the iPhone. The phone just couldn't keep up.*
*High bandwidth networks drain batteries. Power consumption of any chip increases according to the frequency. That means if you want your network to go 10 times faster, the chip inside your phone managing that network consumes 10 times the power that a slower chip would (It's not quite that simple because of different signaling techniques, and in fact there are additional power losses due to frequency that aren't in the standard dynamic power equation, but the overall principle still holds). This is why Steve Jobs has decried the power consumption of 3G networks -- that speedy signaling actually matters in a battery-powered device. So why don't European users see this power-draining effect today with their phones? Well, check out the Nokia message boards and you'll find that they do experience some of the effect, but that effect is diminished by the fact that Europe has a much higher density of cell towers than the US does. And since cell phones decrease their radio power output when signal strength is high, the frequency effect of 3G transmission is partially offset by the fact they can use lower power amplifier settings for their radios.*
*The bottom line: Carriers, analysts, and consumers alike have an unhealthy obsession with bandwidth to the exclusion of other important factors that affect the user experience with a phone. Just as the computer industry finally figured out that more gigahertz wasn't necessarily better for users, the phone industry is going to discover the same point (and for the same reasons). And companies that use limited bandwidth in smarter ways to deliver a better user experience -- like Apple -- are going to have a leg up on their competitors no matter what network they use. Let's hope it doesn't take phone carriers as long as it took the computer industry to figure out they need to sell something other than technology to win over the average consumer.*
    Any comments would be appreciated.

    Hi Pete,
Sure, comparing phones is a good thing to do when making a purchase decision.
However, many of these articles (including this one) are trying to validate the lack of 3G on the iPhone. The article starts with this question and tries to prove it doesn't:
But the question left unasked has been, "Does 3G really improve the user experience?"
Well, of course it does. If nothing else, not having incoming calls go to voicemail while you're surfing the web or YouTube, certainly improves the experience. And only having to wait a fraction of the time for a webpage. Obviously you'll get more use out of it, just as you get more use out of a EDGE iPhone than one that only could do GPRS.
Again, all the same criticisms were used against EDGE when it came out... battery, cpu can't keep up, you name it. All true, but just as meaningless in the end.
    Regards.

  • Are there benefits to adding crossover cable between two servers for DFS replication and SQL Always On?

I have two identical servers with 4 network interfaces each. The primary usage for two servers is hosting SQL Server instance with Always On high availability and dfs replication. Two network interfaces from each server will be used to connect to main network,
while for the other two (on each) I was thinking about using crossover cable to possibly provide shorter path for two servers to communicate.
Will there be any benefits to doing so, moreover, would teaming two crossover cable help more?
Edit: Below is the link to the article where I got the idea of moving DFS Replication traffic to crossover. I wasn't able to find any info whether same thing is applied to SQL Always On high availability.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2006/08/24/449013.aspx

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to connect 2 servers by crossed cable(2 NICs).
Just as the blog suggested, directly connect the servers by crossed cable and configure corresponding route entries will improve efficiency.
If both servers have 2 NICs to connect, I recommend you to team the 2 NICs for bandwidth aggregation. NIC teaming is supported by Windows Server 2012/2012 R2, detailed information you may reference:
    NIC Teaming Overview

besides, for file servers, SMB Multichannel (a feature included with Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 and part of the SMB 3.0 protocol) will helpful for increasing the network performance and availability. Detailed information reference:

For SQL server, suggestions in SQL Server Best Practices would be helpful for you:

when importing tunes from cd disc, songs from 1 albumn all appear as a differnet albumn, only happens from compilations, how can this be fixed? I am using PC with windows 7.

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist, though for compilations you should also set the part of a compilation flag to yes. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • If i create a stunnel between two solaris servers, will the databus clustering of these two servers operate successfully across this stunneled tcp channel?

we have 2 solaris servers interconnected by a stunnel. will the clustered databus that I establish between these two servers operate successfully on the stunnelized tcp connection?

You indicated the servers didn't come up correctly. Did you run "svcs -xv" on the servers to see if any services are having problems? It is my practice to run this command after rebooting a server to make sure it came up properly and if not, to identify which services have problems which need to be addressed. If you've not done this already, I'd start there. The zones service comes up rather late in the boot process and may not be up properly if there are other problems.

  • 1 repository serving 2 OBIEE servers - can this be done?

    Hi Gurus.
I have a question that I though might be better answered in this forum.
Is it possible for us to configure 1 repository and have 2 OBIEE / Web Logic servers running from it?
We are thinking of having one OBIEE server for external and the other for internal layers.
Can this be done? With each running off / out of the same repository?
    I did find this http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/07/obiee-11gr1-scaleout-clustering-and-high-availability/

How do I set up two separate iTunes accounts on one MacBook Pro in order to manage the wife's iPhone and my iPhone (with separate info on each of course) ? Can this be done? A little step by step would be greatly appreciated; just short step by step though, I can follow fairly well.

You would each need to use your own user account on the Mac, you can do this at system preferences > users & groups.

My 2 TB Time Capsule’s memory is full because it will notautomatically delete old files as it is supposed to, so it is giving me zerobackup of my two computers now. How can this be fixed so my Time Capsule deletes the old data and savesthe new?
Neither my local computer consultant nor I have been ableto change any of the settings in Time Machine to correct this problem.  Working with the choices in the TimeMachine, there does not appear that there is any way to change the frequency ofthe backups either, so, after a year has elapsed, the time capsule is full, andmy only choice appears to be to erase all the current data on the Time Capsuleand start over, something that I do not want to at all let alone repeat on anannual basis.  My questions are:
What can be done to have my Time Capsule delete old filesas it is supposed to do, so it has memory available to allow my computers toback up?
Is this a software problem that can be fixed online or isdoes this require a mechanical fix of defective hardware?

How much data is being backed-up from each Mac?  (see what's shown for Estimated size of full backup under the exclusions box in Time Machine Prefs > Options).
Is there any other data on your Time Capsule, besides the backups?
Most likely, there just isn't room.  Time Machine may be trying to do a very large (or full) backup of one or both Macs, and can't.  Since it won't ever delete the most recent backup, there has to be enough room for one full backup plus whatever it's trying to back up now, plus 20% (for workspace).
Also see #C4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for more details.

Two weeks ago Purchasing 60 songs from iTune store. So Two of them play only half of song and then jumping to another songs. What is could be?Looks like is not been downloaded full. Can i get this two songs to play correct? Many thanks Aleksejs!!!

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.
