Can TimeMachine work on two simultaneous hard disks?

I've reached the limit of disk space on the 500gb hard disk I use for TimeMachine backups on my OSX server G5 tower. I don't want to have to start deleting older files on the backup. Is it possible to attach another 500gb disk to my Mac and have TimeMachine use both disks for its backup?

no. TM can only use one backup disk.

  • Two internal hard-disk on sun Ultra 5 ??

    Hi,
Can sun ultra 5 handle two internal hard-disk?
If it is possible, how can this be done?
    Thanks on the sharing...

it should go where the floppy is/would be... you just need a different ide cable...
and remember the cable select or master/slave jumper settings... and the 137 gig hd size limitation!

The HD must be partitioned with GUID partition map and Mac OS extended (journalled) file system. Do not partition the drive into two. When you have a working OS X system, use Boot Camp to create the Windows partition and install Windows.
If you're trying to install Snow Leopard on a Mac that was delivered with Lion installed =
    1. It may not be possible at all depending on the Mac.
    2. If it is possible, it cannot be done with the retail SL disc which is 10.6.3
    3. The only way it can be done is to obtain the original grey discs which would have come with the Mac if it hadn't had Lion installed in the supply chain. They will be at least 10.6.6 and more likely 10.6.7 or .8. You can try to obtain those from Apple Customer Services.

  • Can't repair or partition internal hard disk with disk utility

    Hi,
For the past couple months I've been trying to repair and (re)format my second internal hard disk. It stopped showing up on the desktop after I attempted to install leopard on it. Until then I'd had no problems with the disk for the two years I've had it Leopard installed fine on the other smaller internal disk. But the second disk only shows up in disk utilities - it doesn't have any volumes. I can't verity the disk because the button is greyed out as is the repair disk button.
    S.M.A.R.T. Status shows "not supported".
    Partition Map Scheme shows "unformatted".
Whenever I startup my computer I get a dialog box stating "The disk I have inserted is unreadable by this computer". I't referring to my 250gig internal disk. I read some posts here that suggested using OS 10.4 disk utility to format but that doesn't work either.
At this point I'm totally lost as are all the files I had on that disk - I initially erased it back when I attempted to install leopard on it. Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks for any and all help

    Hi V.K.
Thanks for the advice. Luckily I don't have any data on it since I wiped it clean back when I attempted to install leopard on it a couple months ago. I'm really amazed that it only lasted two years compared to my 80gig which has been in use [daily] for at least five years. I hardly ever used the 250gig drive. I ordered another (500gig) drive from Western Digital which I expect to be here in a couple days. In the mean time I guess I'll get out my hammer.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Time Capsule "can't be found" as a hard disk in Snow Leopard

I've had a Time Capsule for a year and a half. No problems until I installed Snow Leopard.
Time Machine seems to work fine, my backups proceed regularly, but if I try to actually mount the hard disk and upload or download files from the drive, I can't. The path "My Computer/Network/Time Capsule" shows up in a Finder window, but when I click on the icon for the Time Capsule drive, it says "The alias 'My Time Capsule' can't be opened because the original item can't be found." I can "Delete Alias", "Fix Alias..." or "OK".
Clicking on Fix Alias leads to the file selector dialog box. If I select the drive, it claims that it is already connected. So the only available option in the dialog box is "cancel".
Clicking on Delete Alias gives the error message "The item 'My Time Capsule' can't be moved to the Trash because it can't be deleted."
Clicking on OK, naturally, accomplishes nothing.
I tried going to Disk Utility and repairing disk permissions and rebooting. Nada.
I tried connecting directly to the Time Capsule via ethernet. Didn't make a difference.
    Help!!!

I'm having the same problem. Internet connection is fine; backups work correctly. But I get a message telling me there's an update I should install for Time Capsule, and when I click to install it, it tells me it can't find the hard drive.
I also can't print, although my printer driver is installed and the image of the printer appears. My printer is connected to the Time Capsule.

  • Re: How can I add a second internal hard disk to a Satellite Pro P200?

I have a Satellite Pro P200 with a single internal hard disk. There is a second bay under the computer for another internal hard disk but I have not been able to find any information about it. There is enough space for a 2.5" SATA drive but I cannot see a connector.
I contacted Dutch Toshiba Customer support who said that it was the official policy not to provide any information about a second hard internal disk. They also said that they would not supply any parts to make it possible.
Can anyone provide some more information?

    Hello
I have the same notebook with the same situation. The fact is that covers and the construction for all P200 notebooks is the same but notebooks are delivered with different hardware platforms. Some models are delivered with two HDDs.
Other models (like yours and mine) are delivered with one HDD but without possibility for upgrade with second HDD.

  • I have 2 IMacs and MacBook Pro- can not work on FCP simultaneously when my network ports are on (open). How do I go about changing this?

    Hi!
I have 2 IMacs and MacBook Pro and can not work simultaneously on FCP on all workstations when the network port is open. Can anyone help me on this?

Did you purchase Final Cut Pro from the Mac app store? Or install it from disk? If from disk, you may have installed it on all machines using the same serial number, and using all of them simultaneously violates the license agreement. If you purchase from the App store the licensing is different and that may not apply.

  • Can't access Time Capsule's hard disk after Lion upgrade

I haven't been able to access my TC's hard disk after I upgraded to Lion.
I used to manually backup files to the volume but I can't do it anymore. I can't see the disk in the Finder's sidebar. Devices are all checked in Finder's preferences for sidebar and my WiFi/Internet works fine. Airport Utility doesn't show any problems and upgraded to OS X 10.7.1 but still no luck. I also tried to hook my laptop with ethernet cable and my TC but it didn't work either.
    Any ideas?

I'm new to Time Capsule, but I think I have the same problem. I thought I could use Time Capsule as a hard drive, but it comes on and off in my finder. Is this normal?

  • MSI B85M-G43 can't install Windows 7. Hard disk not detected.

    Hi,
I just built a new computer for the first time.  I followed the instructions and did everything correctly. but am unable to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Hard disk isn't always detected during the installation.
But when it appeared in the "Where do you want to install Windows" list along with system, I tried to format the hard disk and got a message "Failed to format the select partition. [Error 0x80070057]."
Then I restarted the computer, the hard disk no longer displayed in the list, so I put motherboard driver disc and clicked on Load Driver and opened Storage\Intel\PCH_12.0\f6flpy-x64. It loaded, then I got a message saying "To continue installation, use the Load Driver option to install 32-bit and signed 64-bit drivers. Installing an unsigned 64-bit device driver is not supported and might result in an unusable Windows installation."
I restarted again and disabled Driver Signature Enforcement, but it didn't help. I still got the same message.
In the computer case I have these devices:
    - MSI B85M-G43, Socket-1150
    - Intel Core i5-4430 Processor
    - Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB
    - MSI GeForce GTX 650Ti BOOST 1GB
    - Cooler Master GX 550W PSU
    - WD Desktop Green 1TB
    - SuperMulti 16X DVD(+/-)R/RW 12X RAM (+/-)R DL LightScribe SATA drive
Everything is plugged in correctly. Hard disk connector plugged in SATA 1 and DVD -> SATA 2.
The installation is pretty slow, regardless if i install it via USB or x16 DVD. All except DVD and hard disk are disabled. It's also worth to mention that even DVD and USB aren't always detected in the click BIOS.
So I'm wondering if anyone here can help me? Thanks

    Hi and
1: What BIOS version you have? .. Have you tryed to downgrade/upgrade it already?
2: Have you tryed it in those SATA 2 ports? ...is it same strory?
    - On SATA there aint any master or Slave like on IDE so if you are under same controller it dosent mutter what port you use on what device.
Note: SATA 3 Ports are faster then SATA2 ports, but even SATA 1 can handel your DVD or HDD. So no lose if you need to use SATA 2 ports.
Hope this get you foward! Cheers Mummy

  • How can i format my MacBook Pro hard disk and recover my data from time capsule?

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro is running slow, more and more. Everything started with the "upgrade" to Lion.
Can I re-format my hard disk and recover from Time Capsule only the data and applications I really need (including Snow Leopard as OS, maybe)?
    Thanks

The problem is that it is a Western Digital 3.5 inch internal hard drive housed inside a hard drive caddy. So the only way to connect it to my computer is through a dock.

  • How can I get my LaCie external hard disk icon to reappear on my desktop?

The iMac discussion section does not seem open to me asking this question. It's geared to the Intel Macs or other categories which do not allow for me to type in the following question:
    Bottom Line Question:
How can I get my La Cie external hard disk icon to re-appear on my desktop?
    Background:
    I clicked Go > Computer
At that point there the usual set of icons in the far left hand column, including one for my LaCie external hard disk. Near that icon there was a dark upturned truncated/shortened arrow. I absent-mindedly clicked on that dark arrow, and at that moment I could hear my LaCie external hard drive power down; I heard the sound of hardware powering down.
The LaCie external hard drive is sitting right next to my iMac and its blue light is ON so I know that at very least I didn't turn it off.
    But where is it?
And how can I get it to reappear on my desktop?
Right now when I click onto Go > Computer, the LaCie external hard drive disk is NOT THERE.
    Thank you.
    Lorna in Southern California

James, yes. I put the question in the iMac section and did get some solutions. My LaCie external hard drive is back now. I was aware that the arrow is connected to Eject actions, but was concerned when I went to Finder Preferences and selected the LaCie to show up on the Desktop, and its icon did not show up on the desktop. I hope you and your family are enjoying the weekend, James. But how could you not: You have little Kate there with you. Lorna in Southern California

  • Can I get Apple updates by hard disk

As I am not in ADSL coverage area, I have to use use Bigpond Mobile Broadband plan which has a much lower monthly GB allowance and costs considerably more than ADSL2. I have several occasions when an Apple update is required (or offered) which has subsequently turned out to eat into my monthly allowance (15gb). The last occasion was iPhoto which turned out to be a 1.6GB update!! 10% of my allowance gone in one day.
To my limited knowledge the only alternative to online updates is to get them sen by hard disk (or similar).
Is this possible or are there other alternatives?
    Any suggestions appreciated

Apple does not send out software except by the Internet. You can go to a local Apple retailer and ask if they could put an update onto your pre-formatted USB flash drive.
Alternatively, try downloading over a local public network such as the local library, Starbucks, etc.
