Can two Aperture libraries be merged?

I have two computers and want to combine my Aperture libraries. Can that be done?
Thanks

Instructions are on this page in the User Manual.
After you merge one Library into another, use only the combined Library.

  • Can two iPhoto libraries be merged???

    Hi,
I had my iPhoto library folder on an external hard disk (LaCie BigDisk, 500GB). This drive stopped working and I sent it to LaCie to repair. In the mean time, I continued taking pictures and importing them into iPhoto, using the internal hard disk of my mini.
I finally got my hard drive back and, as it was the power supply that failed, I had all my data still in it.
So, now I have 2 iPhoto library folders. So the question is... How do I merge the two? Do I have to re-import all of them? And if so, will the dates be kept or will they appear as the date of the import?
And since we are at it, I usually travel with my PowerMac, and import my pictures into it. Again, can I somehow merge the iPhoto library in my PowerMac with my mini's library? Is there any way in which I can have the Mini working as the main library and add from other computers?
THANKS (I know there are many questions, but I guess that there is only one answer)

Many questions but a single answer:
    iPhoto Library Manager
is the only way to move files/ albums between libraries while preserving metadata, including merging libraries.

  • I have two Aperture Libraries and would like to sync specific folders from both of them to my iPad.

I have two Aperture libraries stored on an external hard drive. Using iTunes on my Mac Book Pro can I sync selected projects from both Libraries to the same iPad?

No you cannot. Each device can only be synced with one photo library - Aperture or iPhoto.
You could however merge the two libraries, if you need to sync with photos from both libraries.

  • I created two Aperture libraries from one large library. Some of the photos in library

I created two Aperture libraries from one large library. Some of the photos I want to keep in library #2 are in the trash of library #1.  If I empty the trash of library #1, will it affect the same photos that were moved to library #2?  I moved over 2,000 photos to create library #2.  Their names are showing in the trash of library #1.

Are your images referenced or managed? If your partial libraries are referencing the same original files as the library you exported them from, be careful. Deleting the orignal on one library #1can delete it from the  library #2. But if your originals are managed by Aperture inside the Aperture library, you can delete them.
I moved over 2,000 photos to create library #2.  Their names are showing in the trash of library #1.
If you are not sure about referenced or managed, select one of the images you want to keep in the library where they are not in the Trash, then use the command "File > Show in Finder". If you can reveal them in the Finder, they are referenced and probably are shared between your libraries.
Or turn on "badge referenced files" in the Preferences > Appearance settings. Then your referenced images will show arrow badges.

  • Can different accounts / libraries be merged?

My son and I share the same account and therefore the same iTunes library. However, before I started understanding how iTunes worked exactly I set my husband up with a new account for his iPod. Therefore he has a completely different library of songs / movies etc. Unfortunately we tend to like a lot of the same songs and therefore 'double purchase' them. Also, he has transferred a lot of songs from CDs that I would like.
Is there a way we could merge the two libraries into one single account. I am happy to take abuse for my stupidity!!!
    Many thanks,
    Sam

You can't transfer Protected AACs from one account to another - well, you can, but they won't play: so you can't really merge libraries as such.
But there's no problem with transferring non-protected tracks. Drag them out of iTunes to a folder you've created: if necessary copy them to the other person's user account or Mac. Open their iTunes and drag the songs into it. Repeat in reverse if you have songs to come the other way.

  • Is There A Way To Combine Two Aperture Libraries

I copied my library from my G5 in the studio to my laptop and tried to work with it in the field but had trouble opening the G5 library. I had to continue, so I started a new library on the laptop. Now I need to combine the results of my field work with that in the studio. Can I do that and if so, how?

Is therre a way to combine books. I've been working on a large book in sections and it would be easier to do each section and then combine the sections into one book. Is that possible?

  • Merging two Aperture Books

I have tried following all the directions I could find.  Let's call my book files Book1 and Book 2.  I exported Book2 to my mac as "book as library"  This appears to work.   I then highlight Book1 and choose Import library.  I end up with a book called Book2 (1) which is a duplicate of Book2.
Am I doing something wrong?  Is there a way to merge two different books?

Am I doing something wrong?  Is there a way to merge two different books?
It is simply not possible. You can merge two Aperture libraries and move the photos from one book to another, but you cannot move the pages you played out to a different book.
As a work-around you could print one book to PFD or JPEG and then simply add the JPEGS as full page images to the book, but the quality would suffer.
For a full-quality merge, add the photos from the second book to the first, and then copy and paste all texts from the first to the second.

  • Merge iPhoto and Aperture libraries?

I boght Aperture and as I was installing it, I made the wrong choice when it asked me if I wanted to merge the iPhoto library with the Aperture library. I can't figure out how to do that after the fact. Do I need to reinstall Aperture?

I can't figure out how to do that after the fact. Do I need to reinstall Aperture?
No, you don't. Aperture can now merge any iPhoto Library into the Aperture Library.
But do you really need to merge the Libraries? If you want, you can keep the libraries separate. iPhoto can now open Aperture libraries, and iPhoto can open Aperture Libraries. You can switch between Aperture and iPhoto any time from within Aperture.
    But back to your question:
    To merge the Libraries
open your iPhoto library at least once in iPhoto 9.4 to upgrade it. Quit iPhoto.
Open your Aperture Library in Aperture.
From Aperture's main menu bar use the command "File > Import > Library" and select your iPhoto.
When prompted if you want to "merge" or "add" duplicate library items, select "merge".
    Good Luck

  • Find, mix and have several aperture libraries opened?

I had a harddisk break, so I am now with a new disk, same machine, but with backup files stored from Apple on my disk.
Problem, where to find my old aperture library. I did start at new when I had my new machine this year. January I think. And then I have an old library file too, from the older machine from 2008, that one I got. Afraid to do something wrong here, what to do?
Is it possible to mix two libraries in aperture? Its so sad if I have lost all the work with building the libraries from this last year. Think I will call in and ask where to find. Because its only showing the one library I had at first. Not the second. At least I can not find it on the backup search.
Thankfully I had backuped the photoes on an external harddisk. Put it up that way when I transfer the images to aperture.
Hope for some good ideas here.. thanks. And how should we backup aperture really? Hope the developers give us a good solution in next version:)

Tove, was your backup a full time machine backup? Or did you have parts of your system excluded from backup?

What is your Aperture version? The answer to your questions will depend on your system version and Aperture version.
Have you searched using the Finder? Open any Finder window and type ⌘F.
Then press the "+" button to add a search rule. Set it to "Kind" "Other" and enter "Aperture Library".
That should list all Aperture Libraries on your system, if you set the scope of the search to "This Mac".
This screenshot is done in Snow Leopard, it would look a bit different in Lion or Mt. Lion:
Do you remember, in which folder you stored your Aperture library? By default the libraries are located in your Pictures folder. Or did you have it on an external drive?

You can merge two Aperture libraries by importing one into the other.

Aperture Vaults will backup the library and create archival backups. Time Machine is very good now for backing up the current version, as long as you do not exclude the Aperture Library from the backup locations. A clone of the drive with the aperture library is a good backup. The important thing is to check the backups, if they are current and working, before something happens and to have more than one backup. I had it happen, that a power failure crashed my mac while I was doing the backup, and both - mac and backup drive were unusable afterwards.

  • Combine / Join Aperture Libraries with possible duplicates

    Hi All,
I am still finding my way in aperture.
My MacBook was replaced and I have two Aperture Libraries, one from the old MacBook, and one from the loan MacBook, which I had for about a month.
When my new MacBook arrived the Aperutre Library file from my original MacBook was reloaded and I have worked with that for a few weeks, without the images I had on the loan MacBook.
So I have pictures all over the place and I am constantly exiting Aperture and renaming the Aperture Library name to try to find the files I want.
Is there a way I can import / join both Aperture Libraries together so I can review?
Is there a way in Aperture to identify duplicate Master images?
    Thanks
    Stuart

    Welcome to the forum.
There's currently no way to easily merge multiple Projects or Libraries, so unfortunately you've got yourself into a bit of a corner. You can combine the Libraries by exporting Projects from one Library and importing them into the other, but they will still be separate Projects (one with '(1)' at the end of the name). You would then need to go through the images and work out which is the most recent version.
There's also no easy way to find duplicates.

P.S. You can make feature requests at http://www.apple.com/feedback/aperture.html if you want the Aperture team to know about it.

  • How can I merge two iPhoto libraries stored on an external drive?

Today I was in a One-to-One at the Apple Store.  I want to merge two i-Photo libraries into one.  One library is on my Air, the other is on my iMac.  Both libraries have been moved to an external drive.  When I try to move one onto the other, they won't go.  Yet I am certain that while at the store today, the person there started to merge them.  He did not need the library manager software in order to do so.  We stopped the merge in order to move on to another issue.  Now that I am home, I can't get the libraries to merge.  What am I failing to do?  Thanks!

The only way to merge two libraryies is to use  iPhoto Library Manager which will merge two libraries and keep keywords, titles, faces, places, and other metadata intact.
If one imports one library into another library every image file in the first library, originals, thumbnails, face files, etc,  get imported as an original photo. You will end up with a total mess.  DO NOT IMPORT ONE LIBRARY INTO ANOTHER LIBRARY!
If you have backup copies of your libraries get them back and use iPhoto Library Manager to merge them.
