Can two users access the same bootcamp (win os) instance?

We are two users who are using our imac and we both have own user names in mac os. I created a bootcamp partition with windows xp on it. Can both users access the same partition and create their own user spaces within xp?
Will that work also if we use Parallel or virtual box? (access the same user data as in boot camp?)
I would like to have the option for each user to access their windows data either through bootcamp or through the virtual tool.

What do you mean Virtual box it will not run on its own partition? I have a virtual box running on my desktop and it runs just fine ...own partition?? I don't understand.
Running on its own partition means that the installed OS has its own formatted portion (partition) of the hard drive. A virtual machine does not have its own partition. It creates a virtual partition (a file on the computer) that simulates a file system (partition). So Virtual Box, or any other virtualization software, does not run Windows, or any other OS in its own partition.

  • Can two users on the same Mac sync contacts by using the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings?

Can two users on the same Mac sync contacts by using the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings?

    Hi Barney,
That's exactly what I want. I have a personal user and a business user on my MacBook Pro. I want both users to have the same contacts so if I add a contact while I'm logged into my personal user, it will show up when I'm logged into my business user. I want both contacts books to be exactly the same; like you said. So, I used my business user AppleID when I enabled iCloud for my personal user and I enabled iCloud for my business user with that Apple ID as well. For my personal user, I selected Contacts and Calendars to sync with iCloud. For my business user, I selected everything to sync with iCloud. The problem is... it didn't change anything. I restarted my computer to see if that would do anything but nothing happened. I'm not super savvy with Apple products, so maybe I'm completely confused.
    Hi Xeni,
Thank you for your response, as well.

  • How can two users share the same iTunes library in 10.7

I am running Lion 10.7 and there are two users on the iMac.
I would like full read/write access to our share music from either user account.
Currently I have the iTunes Media folder in users/shared and on my account it looks like a regular iTunes and in my preferences I have ticked the 'share' box, but on my wifes account she can see the shared library but the only view available is a simple list.

Try putting it on a removable drive, like a flash drive.

  • Can two users share the same mac desktop with two different iTunes accounts

I have a mac desktop, my husband and I share the mailbox for our emails but he has his itunes account on the computer. I have mine on an old mac laptop wHich is not working well any longer. Can I create a second Itunes on the desktop so we could both use the same computer yet keep our music separate

    You can.
Your home account can have its own hard drive.
iTunes Media Library can be shared. Or not.
Even have your own boot drive if needed and you have different applications and configuration.
The Mac Pro and OS X are designed for multiple users. Not being limited to just one (or two, now that SSDs have found their way into iMac and laptops) has allowed more people to off load their media and data from the boot drive, which is always good.

  • Can two users of the same iMac have their own "space" and how is this set up?

My wife and I will share the same new iMac.  Can we each have our own "space" complete with personal background preferences, tools, etc.?  How would I set this up?

As PrDm indicated, you can indeed each have your own user account in Mac OS X. But you do not have to log out for the other person to use their own account in Mac OS X. You can use Fast User Switching:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8672.html
That makes it a lot easier to share a single computer.

  • Can two users share the same iMac simultaneously?

I have recently acquired several 2009 Mac "towers" (kind of new to Mac, here...  have patience...) and I'm trying to stretch the 20 computers I was given so it can service 40 students.  They all have 6gb of RAM, a couple of TB's of memory, fast processors and (from my understanding) can support two demanding users at one time.  They also have two network ports.
Now, I'm not talking about using two monitors on one Mac, because I know how to do that.  I'm trying to have two totally separate users, with two different accounts on a network, logging in totally independently and drawing off of a similar network.  So, I'm basically trying to make it so we "split" one Mac so that two students can use one machine.
I thought about partitioning the drive so that I can have two parallel installations of iOS, running independently of each other (not sure if that's possible) but then I wouldn't know how to connect the machine to the internet.  I know it has two different network ports but I'm not sure how to make them operate independently.  The students need to have their own login and should not be able to mess with the other student's items.
I appreciate any and all tips or help.
    Thanks again!

You can create as many individual user accounts on a Mac as you like. Then, any one or more of those users can remotely log in from another Mac and use that Mac as their own, simultaneously. Each account will remain separate from all others.
However, since each user needs to have a Mac to do that, I'm not sure how you could effectively double the number of users as you describe.

  • Can two users use the same ipad for their personal email?

I have one email account assigned to my ipad and I would like to have my girl friend use it while we are traveling. How can she set up her account?

Depends on how much you trust your girlfriend. iOS does not support multiple user accouts at this time. You are not limited to just a single email account. Your girlfriend can add her account to the mix but you must realize she can also get and read email from YOUR account too because she is using your iPad. You cannot set up a different iPad user account that only she can see. Everything is open and available for her to use.

  • Can two users share the same catalog in PSE 10 on OSX Lion?

    Subject line says it all.
I was able to do this with PSE7 on Windows 7, just by placing the catalog in a shared folder.  I tried something similar on Mac, creating a catalog under \Users\Shared, but only the user who created it is able to open it.

Try putting it on a removable drive, like a flash drive.

  • Two users in the same Mac accessing one TimeCapsule

    Hi,
How can i make two user accounts in the same Mac access simultaneously the same TimeCapsule?
I've tried setting them to use accounts to connect to TimeCapsule as well as using a single password for TimeCapsule.
But i keep having the same problem. When one user accesses the time capsule the other gets ejected or the TimeCapsule folder appears with a forbidden sign.
What do i have to do?
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance

I think i understand what is happening.
Leopard mounts the TimeCapsule disk using mount_afp command and any disk mounted with mount_afp will automatically have as owner <user>:staff and read and write permissions only to the owner. All other users have access denied.
(If anyone knows how to change the default permissions of mount_afp please reply!)
If like me, you have two user accounts in the same Mac (lets say user1 and user2) and use fast user switching a lot like i do, since it is a family computer, you'll have serious problems since what happens is the following:
    1. Mount the Timecapsule in user1.
    2. Fast user switching to user2.
    3. The TimeCapsule will appear unmounted in user2
    4. Mount the TimeCapsule in user2.
    5. List the /Volumes folder and you'll see something like this
    drwx------ user1:staff /TimeCapsule
    drwx------ user2:staff /TimeCapsule-1
No problem... I can live with having two mounts for the same network disk.
    The problem is the following...
    6. Fast user switch to user1 again.
    7. Open a finder window
    8. On the left the TimeCapsule is listed as a network drive (as expected) and is shows as mounted!
However... The association has changed and once i click the TimeCapsule icon in the sidebar it now points to /Volumes/TimeCapsule-1 and therefore user1 has permission denied.
    9. I opened a terminal window with user1 and went to /Volumes/TimeCapsule and everything was ok!.
So the conclusion is... the finder window sidebar TimeCapsule is pointing to a Volume it shouldn't be...
How is it possible to correct this situation???
Please help! I just want a way to have two users on the same machine using the same time capsule at the same time.
    Thanks!

Hello there - how can I share my iTunes library between two users on the same computer? I put the library in a shared folder between both and have selected this library on both as well, but when I update iTunes with music etc it only appears on one?

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly   Thanks anyway!

  • How do I share one itunes account between two users on the same computer

How do I share one itunes account between two users on the same computer without taking up twice as much space on my hard drive?

You would need to move the itunes folder to a location that both users have permissions to access such as the Shared folder or any folder on the root level of the macintosh HD.
You can find instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203 This method allows you to share the content without sharing the same library.

  • Sharing iTunes Library with two users on the same computer

I have all of my music stored on a external hard drive.
Both users on the same computer have the iTunes music location folder as the external hard drive. How do I see music added in one persons log-in? For example: I just purchased two albums under one log-in. The second log in can not see that music unless I manually add it.
Both Libraries point to the same file location.
I have over 40GB of music and I am looking for a way to manage my music files more effectively and I want to make sure that both log-ins have the same music.
I followed the instructions in article HT1203 from the apple support site.

The reason you are having this issue is because you have a shared library but private databases. What you have on the external drive is the collection of media files (library) that each account is set up to access as the source for media. What you have not done is set up a shared iTunes database, so each user accesses the same library differently.
When each user opens iTunes, iTunes access the database on their account (~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library). Therefore, their settings, views, playlists, etc., are private. When they add songs to their library only their database file is updated to reflect those additions; simply having files in the music folder does not mean that iTunes will recognize them, hence the reason iTunes asked you if you want to move the file to the trash when you delete it from your library.
The confusion here is the double use of the term library. The contents of you music folder most definitely constitutes your media library, as it is the collection of your media files. What you see as your library in iTunes is not your library but, for the most part, the content stored in a database table maintained by iTunes in the iTunes Library file in your iTunes folder. iTunes does not access your actual media files unless it is absolutely necessary. The general assumption is that what is shown in your iTunes “library” will actually mirror what is in your music folder.
So the missing step in your setup would be to switch to the account that has the most current iTunes library—that is the one reflects the actual contents of your music folder as of now—and follow this procedure.
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Move the iTunes folder to the Shared folder (./Users/Shared).
    3. Launch iTunes, but immediately hold the option key to invoke the Choose Library window.
    4. Select the database (iTunes Library file) now located in the shared folder.
    5. If you do not see your content, go to iTunes’ preferences and reset the location of the music folder to the external drive.
    6. In the other accounts, re-launch iTunes and change the library according to steps 3 and 4.
Now all users will have access to the same iTunes database as well as the shared library. The downside of this is that each user will have full access privileges. If you have iTunes 8, then to avoid the disadvantages that come with this type of set up, see [this thread|http://forums.macworld.com/thread/105366?tstart=0] over at Macworld.

  • Two users opened the same file at the same time with file on Win2K Server

I just had a problem with a file that could not be saved. After a little investigation I discovered that two users had the same file open at the same time. This is with both users using InDesign CS2 and saving to a Windows 2000 Server. Any ideas how this even happened? The only thing I can think of is if they both opened the file at the exact same time but even that I doubt. I guess the more likely possibility is that the user on 10.5 (which we have had a lot of problems with, it's hard to tell how many of them are CS3 problems (yes CS3) and how many are Windows 2003 Server problems) had InDesign CS2 flake out and not tell her the file was open. Has anybody else seen this? The other user was using 10.4. Both computers have the most recent updates for the OS and for their various adobe products.

I have videos on mov file and my quick time player does not play them.
The MOV file container is the generic QT file container. Any audio and video data compatible with the computer system used to create the file can be placed in the MOV file container. Unfortunate, other systems cannot play the file unless they too are configured with the same components as those used to create the file. The normal procedure here is to use the Finder "Info" or alternative media play "Inspector" window to determine what codecs were used to create the original file and, if they are available for your Mac, install them on your system for playback use. Also be advised that some "legacy" codecs may require playback in the QT 7 Player for proper QT support.
I opened with other players, there is no sound. Then I opened the same file on my windows 7, it plays perfectly with the sound and everything? What is the problem?
This would indicate these players either access your QT codec component configuration which does not include the required codec or the app has its own built-in codec support which does not include the required audio codec but you Windows 7 media player is configured with the required codec support. This may incidate the use of a really old codecs that may or may not be available/supported on a Mac any longer.
