Can two users share the same mac desktop with two different iTunes accounts

I have a mac desktop, my husband and I share the mailbox for our emails but he has his itunes account on the computer. I have mine on an old mac laptop wHich is not working well any longer. Can I create a second Itunes on the desktop so we could both use the same computer yet keep our music separate

You can.
Your home account can have its own hard drive.
iTunes Media Library can be shared. Or not.
Even have your own boot drive if needed and you have different applications and configuration.
The Mac Pro and OS X are designed for multiple users. Not being limited to just one (or two, now that SSDs have found their way into iMac and laptops) has allowed more people to off load their media and data from the boot drive, which is always good.

how can I logon to the app's store using a different itunes account?

You can log out of the currently logged in account on your iPhone by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and logging out, and you then log in with a different account. But any content downloaded via the currently logged in account will remain tied to that account, and if you use iTunes match, automatic downloads or re-download past purchases for an account then you risk tying the iPhone to that account for 90 days : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627

  • Can two different itunes accounts share one purchased icloud backup storage?

My husband and I each have an iTunes account, I purchased 25GB of memory for my iPad and iPhone iCloud backup for the year and am only using about 5 of that.  He is out of free iCloud memory for his iPad and iPhone and I would like him to be able to take advantage of what I've purchased.  Is that possible, if so how?

The only way for him to share your iCloud account storage is for him to share you iCloud account.  However, if he does, any data he syncs with the account will be merged with yours and will appear on all your devices.  Also, you would share the same photo stream and iCloud email account.

  • Can mutliple users share the same library (windows xp)?

I hope the answer to this questions is not completely obvious:
I have set up Windows XP with at least two different accounts.
If I run itunes from one of the accounts, I will get a "itl"- and "xml"-file with the library information in the "~/my music/itunes"-folder related to the account.
If the user adds music to "his" library, the mp3-files show up at the location specified under edit/preferences/advanced (please excuse me if this path is not exactly right, I am using the German version and try to translate) and in "his" library (i.e. the "itl"- and "xml"-files).
I would now like the other user not only to share the mp3-files but also the information in the "itl"- and "xml"-files. In other words: I would like to have a shared set of mp3-files and ONE library for all users which have an account on the system ...
I tried to use links in the ~/my music/itunes-folders which pointed to common "itl"- and "xml"-files, but itunes did not recognise the links but created fresh, empty files.
Any suggestions of how this might work?

I.e. use TWEAKUI to redirect the "My Music" folder of each participating user to a common folder which holds the common itunes library files.

  • Can 2 users have the same email login with different passwords for seperate itunes accounts

My daughter is currently using the home email address for her account and i have just purchased an ipad. I would like a seperate account. Is it possible to use the same email address as the login and have two accounts.
    Thanks
Tracey (a mum who is trying to catch up with technology)

It is possible to have two different Apple ID accounts and have a common contact email address, if that is what you are asking. The potential problem is that the Apple ID is in the form of an email address so it can cause some confusion. It would probably be best to actually own the email addresses that match the account IDs.

  • How to share apps between 2 iPads with 2 different iTunes account in 2 computers?

I apologize if this has been answered somewhere but I've spent a lot of time researching this and none of the questions exactly match my situation.
Situation: I have my own iTunes account, Mac and iPad. My Mom has her own PC, iTunes account and I just bought her an iPad.
Issue: I would like to share some apps with her, without her having to buy them all over again.  Since I'm paying for all her app purchases anyway, I would rather not pay for Angry Birds twice.  She has her own apps and music that I have no interest in, so we cannot share 1 iTunes account.
This is what I was thinking of doing from all the research I've read:-   Since I can authorize up to 5 computers or 10 computers & devices from 1 iTunes account, can my Mom sign out of her iTunes account on her PC, sign in to my iTunes account, download all the apps she wants from my account. Then, she signs out of my account, back into hers and sync her iPad.
    Questions:
    1) This (should) mean that her PC is now authorized with 2 iTunes accounts - hers and mine. In other words, she gets to keep all her content in her iPad plus whatever apps she wants from me.  Will this work?
    2) It wouldn't wipe out all her apps/music/photos etc during the sync, will it?
    3) Will update to apps I purchased in my iTunes account automatically also update in her iPad?  Or will the update only happen if she signs out of her account and in to mine again.
    4) If someone knows of a better way of doing this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks much
    Jeff

I do something similar myself and it works quite well, so here are my answers to your questions:
    1. Her PC would be authorized on both iTunes accounts. So yes, the arrangment you mention here will work.
    2. No, nothing will get wiped out from her iTunes library or iPad.
    3. The App Store on her iPad will simply ask for your password in order to update apps from your account. In these cases the authentication alert view will show your Apple ID instead of hers
    4. Maybe instead of using the Purchases tabs (since on the iPad there is an odd restriction to only one account and changing it renders the feature useless for 90 days, why is beyond me) use Home Sharing between the computers if possible, or put what she wants on a flash drive to take to her house.

  • How can I share a folder between two users on the same mac?

    Hi all,
I would like to share a folder between multiple users on the same macbook without having to transfer the folder to the Public/Shared folder.
Is there not a way, using the the folders shared permissions, to allow shared folders from one user to be visible and usable by another user on the same mac without having to move the folder to a designated shared location?
    Regards,
    Caleb

Thanks, but do you have to do that every time you share a folder?
No, you just need to do it once and that's it. Anything that is in the Shared folder is accessible by all user accounts within the same Mac.

I've read numerous 'how to share a folder' blogs and they just say it's as simple as clicking 'share' and allowing specific users to access it...none have mentioned this (not saying your advice is wrong at all, just don't get why no-one else has mentioned what appears to be a key step!)
Can you give me an example of such a blog. I suspect you may have mis-understood what they were saying but if you can provide a link, I'll look at it.

  • Share a library between two users on the same mac?

It is possible to share a library between two users on the same mac?

It's doable. As it's been pointed out Aperture has no provisions for file locking so you can't have two users accessing the library at the same time. This includes having one user having the library open only for browsing. Aperture doesn't have a +Read Only+ mode, when it opens the library, even if you make no changes to any images, the library will be written to.
This also means you can't have one user open the library and then stop using Aperture but still have the library open and then have another copy of Aperture open on the library.
Of course if you have two copies of Aperture running even they are on different libraries you'll be in violation of the license and you'll have bigger problems to worry about then a toasted library.

  • HT4007 how can i share photos between users on the same mac?

    Dear All,
My wife and I use the same MacbookPro, but our own different login Accounts on the Mac, how can we share photos bewtwen these 2 accounts.
Say, I've downloaded some pics from my camera and would like to transfer to her login account.
Can I do it on the desktop level or can I use iPhoto to do this? I'd like to know how to do bothways, without having to duplicate the files(ie saving 2 copies of the same file on the computer)
Isn' there a 'New' feature on iPhoto / Aperture saying that it uses the same 'Unified' library or something ?
Can this feature help? but how to activate?
    Pls help.
    Thanks

Macs have a folder called "Public" for this purpose.  See this from Finder's help:
Share files with others using a drop box
To give a copy of a file to another user, you can copy the file to the person’s Drop Box.
HidePut a file in the Drop Box of another user on your Mac
Open the user’s Public folder (in their home folder in the Users folder on your hard disk).
Hold down the Option key and drag the file to the Drop Box in the user’s Public folder.
Click the desktop to make sure you’re in the Finder, and then choose Go > Computer.
Double-click the icon for your computer’s internal disk (usually named Macintosh HD) to open its folder.
Open the Users folder, and then open the folder for the person to whom you’re giving a file.
Open the user’s Public folder, and then drag the file to the Drop Box. To keep a copy of the file for your own use, hold down the Option key while you drag.
Even though you can put items in another user’s Drop Box, you can’t open any Drop Box except your own.

  • Can two users on the same Mac sync contacts by using the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings?

Can two users on the same Mac sync contacts by using the same Apple ID in the iCloud settings?

    Hi Barney,
That's exactly what I want. I have a personal user and a business user on my MacBook Pro. I want both users to have the same contacts so if I add a contact while I'm logged into my personal user, it will show up when I'm logged into my business user. I want both contacts books to be exactly the same; like you said. So, I used my business user AppleID when I enabled iCloud for my personal user and I enabled iCloud for my business user with that Apple ID as well. For my personal user, I selected Contacts and Calendars to sync with iCloud. For my business user, I selected everything to sync with iCloud. The problem is... it didn't change anything. I restarted my computer to see if that would do anything but nothing happened. I'm not super savvy with Apple products, so maybe I'm completely confused.
    Hi Xeni,
Thank you for your response, as well.

  • How can i share purchased apps between 2 diff users on the same mac?

How can I share purchased apps between 2 diff users on the same mac?

A purchased app is associated with an Apple ID. A user with a different Apple ID cannot use the app unless they also use the same Apple ID.
I cannot use my wife's apps nor she mine because each were purchased with different Apple IDs.

  • How can i share documents with different users on the same mac?

How can i share documents with different users on the same mac?

Shared how? The other users can read the documents or you all can read and write the documents?
The first is easy just place the documents in /Users/Shared anyone can access the files there and the other users will be able to read them.
The second is a bit trickier.

  • How do I move organized photos from dropbox to iPhoto and share with another user on the same mac?

I have about 3,500 photos sitting in dropbox and just purchased my first mac yesterday.  My husband and I each have our own Ipad and our own user id's on the mac.  I moved two of the folders to Iphoto and it shows up on my screen in the right folders.  However, on my Ipad, it shows all of them under one Photostream and not organized.  They don't show up on my husband's "side of the computer" at all.
    So my questions are:
    1.  How does one mirror their file organization on the Ipad?
    2.  How does one share all of the folders with another user on the same Ipad so they can view folders, and add pictures to the folders if they like?
    Thanks!

    1.  How does one mirror their file organization on the Ipad?
If you use the Photo Stream, the organisation in iPhoto will be lost - there is just one endless stream.  YOu could sync your photos using iTunes. Then you will see the synced albums in the Photos.app on the iPad.
See this link:   iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
How does one share all of the folders with another user on the same Ipad so they can view folders, and add pictures to the folders if they like?
On the same iPad?  Do you mean on the same mac?
If you want to share an iPhoto library between two users on the same mac, the iPhoto library should be on a separate disk partition or even better, on a separate external disk. Then you can set the flag "Ignore ownership on this volume" to avoid permission problems. Both of you will be able to browse the iPhoto library and can edit the photos within.
See this support document:  iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
If both of you want to keep separate iPhoto libraries but share the photos, you could share selected albums as Shared PhotoStreams and invite each other to browse them. This would require iOS 7. Do you have iOS 7 on your iPad?  Each Shared Photo Stream will be shown as a separate album on your iPad .

  • Can we have two different itunes accounts on the same mac?

Can we have two different itunes accounts on the same account? I am having trouble accessing mine from my sons.

    Yes you can.
The fact you cannot access your son's library from your User account is intentional. User accounts on your Mac are nearly as separate from each other as your Macs are from anyone else's on the planet. To copy music from his account to yours, first copy it to the Shared folder, then log into your account and import the music. Then, you can erase it from Shared.
The Shared folder exists at /Users/Shared.
