Can type be edited in a pdf as easily & fully as in an ordinary computer file?

Do you edit the files for us  when we send it or you just make editable?

Hi henryw51929890,
Acrobat isn't intended to be used as a word processor. So, while you can make minor edits and touchups, or add text to a PDF, any serious text processing should be done in a application designed for that purpose, such as Microsoft Word.
If you use the ExportPDF online service to convert a PDF file to Word format, we simply do the conversion from one format to the other. Then, you can edit the document as necessary.

Sara

  • Should I convert my MTS (AVCHD) file to another file type before editing with elements 10

I know premiere elements 10 has project settings for working with AVCHD footage but after doing a bit of reading about how AVCHD (MTS) files are a lot harder for your computer to work with I'm thinking it might be better to convert my raw video files to another video file type before editing with premiere elements 10.
I have a reasonably good computer, but it's only a laptop with 361gb free memory, radeon graphics card, core i5 processor and 8GB ram.
If I should convert these files first what file type should I convert them to without loosing too much video quality and where can I find a program to convert them.
    Many thanks
    Sally

I have a reasonably good computer, but it's only a laptop with 361gb free memory, radeon graphics card, core i5 processor and 8GB ram.
My granddaughters and I have been using one of those to edit videos taken in (two) Sony and (one) Panasonic cameras.  The computer is a mid grade Toshiba laptop that is about three years old.  The cameras were purchased after the computer.  Our computer does not have a graphics card, but the other specs are about the same.

I didn't read that until after we had made videos.  The issue is the project preset that is set when you open a new project. If you guess wrong, PrE10 tells you so when you slide the first clip to the timeline.
There is confusion about AVCHD because there is a 1.0 and a 2.0.  The "high" setting for many cameras the last couple of years was 1080p60.  That did not become part of AVCHD until last July.  Now it is and is called 2.0.  PrE10 specs include AVCHD 1.0, so the 1080p60 is "officially" unsupported.   I didn't know that, so I tried a few presets when my files were 1080p60.  A preset of 720p60 worked best.
The "work harder" part primarily has to do with the preview window during editing.  If it is not going smoothly there will probably be a red line above the clip.  Pressing "Enter", getting a cup of coffee and patience will make the red line go away and the preview will be smoother.  The relationship between project presets and final output is a mystery.  My experience is that the presets have only to do with real time preview and little to do with output.  Output requires an entire re-encoding for the chosen viewing platform.  PrE10 seems to ignore the project presets, uses all the markers set in editing and builds the final products from scratch.

Steve and Bill invest a lot of time here helping people like you and me.  But, my experience is that they are wrong.  I see no need to convert the files.  Conversion always has the risk of loosing a little picture quality.  PrE10 seems to handle AVCHD fine.  Let it do the final render using the actual source clips.
Sally, consider upgrading to version 11 where AVCHD 2.0 and 1080p60 is included.  I have.  Processing is a little smother.
    Bill
PS:  Please, with all due respect to Bill and Steve who work hard here, I disagree based only on experience with 3 cameras and one computer.  User experience varies!

  • When I use Preview my computer locks up. Can't use it to view PDFs. Any ideas?

When I use Preview my computer locks up. Can't use it to view PDFs. Any ideas?
I try to save files as a PDF on external hard drives. When I select SAVE AS PDF I get spinning colorwheel and the program I am using locks (Quicken, Quickbooks, Gmail etc.)

There were several /Library/preferences. The only one that had the file was the one under my user name. I deleted it. I was using Quickbooks when the problem started. It is locked. I have to reboot the computer to use it again. I tried SAFARI using the PRINT button then SAVE AS PDF. It didn't work. It locks Safari up. I will reboot and hopefully continue.
P.S. I've done this procedure before and I was able to Save, but then the problem came back.

  • While editing a scanned pdf, Acrobat will not recognize the current font & change to very different font. How can I choose the font I want to match the current document?

While editing a scanned pdf, Acrobat will not recognize the current font & change to very different font. How can I choose the font I want to match the current document?

Thanks for answering. The version is XI.0.10. I just did the update yesterday hoping that I could now properly edit a scanned pdf document. Yes, it's happening on most all scanned documents. I followed your steps & found the list of fonts used in the document & then attempted to edit. The same occurs. When I type in a correction, I get an error alert... "the original font (in this case Fd 5805) is not available or can't be used in editing. Acrobat is using the font Minion Pro in its place."
When I select the text & right click as you suggested, my only choices are cut, copy, delete or select all, no "edit text".
I have no other options to choose another font. Thanks for any help you can direct my way.

I need to use the PDF editor so I can sign or edit documents already on pdf format. Please advise?

As per my understanding , To disable the field RV45A-KWMENG based on the condition for Transaction VA01/VA02.
The conditions which i need to check is Order Type and item category.
I understand that this is the code which i need to insert for disabling the field but i have a question here, where is the condition here and how the system understand for this field RV45A-KWMENG it has to disable. I think we need give the condition as if RV45A-KWMENG....... Another one if iam not wrong we need check that it has to be done in VA01 and VA02 then only this condition should be executed.
IF VBAK-AUART EQ 'XXX' OR VBAP-PSTYV EQ TANN .
    IF SCREEN-NAME = 'XXX'.
    SCREEN-ACTIVE = 0

  • Can't edit text in PDF

    Hi,
Using Acrobat Pro 8.1.7 intel mac plenty of ram. I've got a PDF from a client that comes with areas that I can supposedly change. However I get this message:
All or part of the selection has no available system font. You can not add or delete text using the current selected font.
The font is Helv Neue Roman TT. I have every Helv Neue but that one. If I buy it can I edit it?
Would Acrobat 9 do it easier?
    Thanks

You've ran in to one of the problems with editing PDF's. They really aren't intended for that type of editing.
You would need the "exact" font on your system and even then, it may not work.
If the creator of the file used say and Open Type Font (works on Windows and Mac) and you had the same one, that would be your best bet.

  • I want to know what I need and then how to take a pdf form I created in word and add the blue boxes so that anyone can type into my form

I want to know what I need and then how to take a pdf form I created in word and add the blue boxes so that anyone can type into my form

    Hey john@adobe,
Could you please specify how exactly have you created your form.
You might need to have Acrobat installed on your computer to convert a word document to PDF.
Do you have Acrobat installed? If yes, what version? If no, then please try using the trial version of Acrobat DC (latest version) and access its features:
Download Adobe Acrobat free trial | Acrobat Pro DC
Also, let me know what kind of blue boxes are you talking about.
If you want others to edit your PDF form, then you need to make it a fillable form by choosing 'Form Editing' option from Tools pane.
Let me know more on this so that I can help you out.

  • How can I edit text in pdf?

newbie here to editing text in a pdf. I make a document in InDesign and exported it into a pdf. I tried to change the text in the pdf, using the touch up tool but it won't let me change it. What am I doing wrong?

That depends on what type of edits you want to do.
You can use the touchup text tool to make some changes to text (this assumes that the person on the other end has the exact same fonts installed). The touchup object tool can be used to remove images...Have them look under the "tools" menu to see what is available. Different ones are there depending on their version of Acrobat.
Why are you having them make edits (just asking to see if there is a better way of doing this because really, you don't want to go down this road)?
Do they really need to make edits or are they just marking up changes they want done in the document so you can do them? If that's the case, have them use the comment tools.
There are way too many things to go wrong when you start editing PDF's. They really should be considered simply a digital piece of paper and nothing more.

  • Can't Edit .txt and .pdf files in EP6 KM

We just migrated our last application from EP5 to EP6, and now we're having problems with not being able to edit .txt and .pdf files.  The problem is that the files will only open in the browser rather than in their native programs (wordpad/notepad, Adobe Editor, etc).  Surely others have encountered this issue.  Are there any solutions short of installing 3rd party tools?

    Hi Jeff,
Which program opens on a link depends on two things:
    1. The MIME-Type that is sent from the server together with the resource (file) you requested by clicking a link
    2. Your Windows Setting defining which local application should be used for which MIME Type.
So there may be two things happening:
    1. EP 6 is sending other (or no) MIME Types with the KM resources. You can check this in your KM configuration. See KM -> Services -> MIME Service
    2. Your OS got the settings for apps/MIMEs changed. This happens e.g. if you changed on Win XP to SP 2.
So here may be a solution:
    Go to Windows Explorer->Tools->Folder
Options->File Types, click on the TXT extention, and click
"Delete".  Then proceed to recreate the TXT file type with the
    default app you want (notepad).
IE will open your app (notepad) for links to text files from that point
    on.
So, to check this for text files, open the registry editor, go to
"My Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt" (or .TXT), and check for a 'String
    Value' with the value "text/plain".
This should work with any file type, as long as you use the right MIME Type (See KM configuration / MIME Services).
    HTH,
    Carsten

  • How can i edit a scanned pdf file in adobe 9 pro ?

how can i edit a scanned pdf file in adobe acrobae 9 pro ?

With Clear Scan you get the text replacing the graphics of text. That can be edited. If you do searchable PDF conversion, you can still edit (I think). However it is an edit of the hidden layer of text behind the graphic and does not show on screen normally.
Usually the best choice is to ask the author for the original file to edit. If that is a copyright issue, then you should not be editing anyway.

  • When I convert a PDF to a Word doc, it "converts" as a picture and I cannot edit the document. What can I do to get the PDF to convert properly?

When I convert a PDF to a Word doc, it "converts" as a picture and I cannot edit the document. What can I do to get the PDF to convert properly?

    Hi conversionnewbie,
Are you able to select the text in Word by triple-clicking inside the text box? (Sometimes text selections can be tricky in converted files.) If you can't select the text, then I'm guessing that the PDF was created from a scanned file (so the text becomes images). Make sure that OCR is enabled when you convert the file to Word. OCR is enabled by default in the ExportPDF web interface, but can be disabled in Adobe Reader. If you're converting to Word from within Adobe Reader, make sure that OCR is enabled and that the correct language is selected:
Please let us know that works for you!

  • Why can't I edit the Word doc I converted from a PDF?

Why can't I edit the Word doc I converted from a PDF?
Help! That is why I bought this software!

    Hi linda007,
If you can't edit the file once it's converted to Word, it could be that the PDF was created from a scanned page, and then image text wasn't converted to searchable text. ExportPDF should perform Optical Character Recognition by default, but it can be disabled in Reader. Do you know whether OCR was disabled when you converted the page? If it wasn't, make sure that the correct language was selected for OCR. This option appears at the bottom of the ExportPDF panel in Reader, and in the Document Language (for Text Recognition) pop-up menu that appears after you select your file to convert in the ExportPDF online service.
If everything seems to have been set correctly, and you still can edit the text, please try triple-clicking to select the text in Word. Did that do the trick?
    Best,
    Sara
