Can 'typed in' fields be saved in a PDF using Reader?

Hi,
If I set up fields in Acrobat Pro for staff to type answers into...but they use Acrobat Reader...can they save their typed out responses by saving the PDF?
Or is save disabled in this case? Any work-arounds here if it is disabled, or do the staff need Pro installed?
Thanks! Just want to be certain about this.

Shouldn't one use Acrobat to enable the form?

    TM is uniquely Mac.

  • Can't open pdf using Reader X

I have a pdf file that was created by Page Manager version 7.15.35.  I am unable to open this pdf when using Reader X; Reader opens but I get a blank dialog; no error message is produced.  I tried turning off Protected Mode bu that made no difference.  If I uninstall Reader X and install Reader 9.3 then I am able to open the pdf successfully.  I am able to open other pdfs using Reader X.  My only problem is with a pdf created by Page Manager 7.15.35.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanks

Thx, Stix.  Upgrading to 4.0 apparently solved the issue.

  • How to allow multiple-session changes to fields in a PDF using Reader 7

    Good morning
We used Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 to create a seminar registration form that people can download from our website.
The idea is they fill it in and email it back as an attachment.
There are some browser plug-in issues - e.g. in Internet Explorer I can fill in the form and save it to my PC, and the PDF created on my PC contains the data I entered. If I do the same thing in Firefox, the saved file is empty (the data isn't saved).
But the real problem is, if I open the PDF in Reader 9 (at work) I can fill in the form, save, re-open and make changes.
With Reader 7.0 (at home), if I enter data and save and re-open, I get a message as follows:
"The document contained certain rights to enable special features in Adobe
Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights
are no longer valid. Please contact the author of the original version of this
    document."
...meaning, with Reader 7.0 I only get one chance to fill in the form.
Is there a way of creating the PDF that allow users with earlier versions of Reader to have more than one crack at it?
e.g. would saving the file for Reader version 7 solve the issue?
    thanks in advance
PS: I didn't do the form, not sure how it's done, and I don't have Reader 7 where I am now.

  • Can we preserve the session while navigating to PDF using sessionId

    Hi,
I have a requirement like i am navigating to PDF page where we have few buttons on click of those links we trigger some application functionality in a different window.
I want to restore the session in the new window, any suggestion are welcome!
The thing i observed is while opening PDF we are loosing session because PDF file is not associated with browser and when clicking on PDf button it is opening entirely new browser window instead of child window of the parent window.
Can we restore the session using sessionId actually i can send the sessionId by appending it in URL using URL rewriting.
    Thanks,

In the connection tag of the server.xml give the server name as you want. which will be prefixed in the JSESSION ID

  • Can you lock fields? eg. 'for company use only'

I would like to create an application form that would go to a user to complete. In the form there would be some fields that say "office use only" not for the applicant to complete. The Applicant would submit via email as PDF. It would come to our company and we would then use the submitted PDF to electronically record our checks and completion. Thoughts on if this is possible?

    Hi;
This would not be something supported in a form/PDF that collects the data through FormsCentral.  Are you using FormsCentral or is this more of a general PDF forms question?  In either case I would recommend posting in the Acrobat Forms Forum here: forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/forms
If you are designing your form/PDF in FormsCentral and then using an Email submit workflow for the form you could further edit the PDF in Acrobat based on whatever information you find on this in the Acrobat Forms Forums.
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • How can I increase resolution when saving file as PDF?

I am sending some illustrated files to a professional printing press that only accepts PDFs, however they say the resolution is too low and should be 300dpi. How can I increase resolution? Only option I could find was to try to create a new filter in Color Sync by duplicating PDFX3 filter and editing it to the desired resolution, however I couldn't get new filter to save my resolution inputs. Any help is appreciated!

You really need something like Acrobat which will install a "Save as Adobe PDF" under the PDF menu. You can select press quaility," "high quality print," etc., and get a true high res PDF.
If you'd like to just give it a shot, try downloading one of the OS X CS6 suites that include Adobe Acrobat Pro for a free 30-day trial. I've never used SketchBook Pro, but Acrobat may help you out.

  • How Can I Create a Print Button on a PDF Using Acrobat Pro That Will Also Work on iOS?

I created a Print Button on a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat Pro on my Mac.  The Print button works perfectly on different browsers on my Mac and on Windows (running under Parallels Desktop) as well.
When I open the document on my iPad the Print button doesn't even appear.  I am guessing that this is a Flash issue but it may be more related to the fact the the action for the button is to access the Print menu item, which doesn't exist under iOS.
Is there any way to create a Print button using Acrobat Pro that will work on a Mac and Windows but also on iOS?

In order to initiate printing by clicking a button, the button has to have either an "execute menu item" type action or use the "print" JavaScript method. As you guessed, the former won't work since there are no menu items to execute, and the latter can only work if the particular PDF viewer you're using supports it. I'm not aware of any that do on iOS.
The button doesn't appear because you're probably opening it in the default PDF viewer, which doesn't support forms at all. If you were to open the form in Adobe Reader, you'd see the button but it wouldn't work.

  • How can I erase pencil/pen marks on a pdf using Acrobat 11?

I have googled this question with no success. I know that you can erase pencil marks made with the pencil tool in Acrobat, but I need to erase physical pencil marks from a scanned document.
I know that I can use Photoshop to erase, but I have seen an eraser tool in far inferior pdf programs! Can anyone tell me if this is even possible to do with Acrobat 11?
    Thank you for your time!

@Test - My bad on the workflow, I rechecked the definition in relation to Adobe products.
I scan my college books. Sometimes there are pencil marks in them. Photoshop and Acrobat 11 are roughly $400?
So why not save the consumer some $$$ and just include an eraser?
As far as the shoe-horn comment - most Adobe software does everything except bake cookies. Pshop is a perfect example of this.
It is pretty, no extremely comprehensive with what it can do. It's simply amazing! There is a ton of stuff shoe-horned in there, and most other Adobe products.
If there wasn't a background eraser tool in Pshop and other inferior photo editing programs had background eraser tools, this would be a major issue.
ABBYY Fine Reader is junk imo, but it has an eraser. Acrobat is greatness and I use it exclusively for everything pdf related.
I just simply find it appalling that there is no eraser. Your turn Test...

  • Can't seem to save non-English as text from PDF using Reader

I have several PDF documents that were originally generated by OpenOffice from a UTF8-encoded text file. The text is in different languages, e.g. Korean, Arabic, Russian, English. When I open these documents and then "save as text", the resulting text files contain garbage or nothing at all in all cases except for English. Is it possible to extract non-English text from a PDF document using Reader? If not, is there a different product that could be used for this purpose? Thanks much!

They're using fonts that you don't have on your system so no, it isn't possible with Reader.

  • Saving Files in PDF using third party plugin

I have been using the Office 2007 plugin "save as PDF" to convert all my office documents to PDF format. However, after upgrading my reader version to 9.0, each time I try to convert a document, the output is a jumbled list of words with no structure. I tried reinstalling Adobe Reader, but to no avail. Any suggestions?
I use Windows Vista SP1 by the way. The problem did not occur when I had version 8.1 of the reader installed. My computer is a HP with a Intel Dual Core processor and 2GB RAM Memory....

Yeah. I was going to say that you should just re-install Adobe 8.1.2.
    Have you tried it?

  • Can a JPEG be 'saved as' a PDF (or other file type)?

Can a JPEG file be saved as a PDF file?
Also, can it be saved in a file format that will allow the image to be inserted into, e.g., a WORD document? (Or can a JPEG itself simply be inserted into a WORD doc 'as is'?)
    Thanks.

You can reformat a .jpg to PDF.
No, it doesn't reformat it. The .jpg is simply embedded into the PDF file. As BDAqua noted, if it's a high resolution image, OS X's built in PDF creation module will knock it down to screen resolution.
For some reason, I was sent a chart (with numbers) as a jpeg file. Converting it to, and then printing it as, a PDF leaves the data in too small a font size.
What size is the .jpg before you place it into a PDF? Open it in Preview and press Command+I. What is the image size in pixels and image DPI (resolution)?
Is there any way to enlarge the text (via iPhoto, Preview, or some other Mac utility)?
72 dpi is low, screen resolution. 300 dpi is standard high, print resolution. So if the original is already a low res file, then there's little to nothing you can do to improve the text on a printed piece.
