Can u capture live right to mac

i want to know if i can set up my mac to capture live footage of my gl2 with out having to go to tape? any suggestions

Just remove the tape from the camera and you should be good to go. The tape mechanism recognizes when a tape is loaded and will shut off after ~5 mins idle time to protect the tape & heads; no tape, no shutoff. Works in most miniDV camcorders.

  • How can I capture live HD video direct to hard drive?

    Hello,
My goal is to be able to capture 1080p video from a camcorder direct to the hard drive of a mac. Space is a concern, so ideally this would capture directly to a Mac Mini, but if the only option is to upgrade to a Mac Pro or MacBook Pro (for Thunderbolt), I may be able to work with that. What I know about so far are the offerings from Black Magic:
    1) The H.264 pro recorder: http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/h264prorecorder/
    2) and the Ultra Studio 3D: http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/ultrastudio3d/
With the first option, I'm worried about the quality. Ultra Studio 3D is very expensive ($1000) and would require upgrading to a MacBook Pro for Thunderbolt, but I'm open to that if it is the only way to get full 1080p quality.
I also have read about an app in the Firewire SDK called DHS cap. I haven't been able to try this since the cameras I have access do not have Firewire, but if people have had success with that, then I can purchase a camera that can connect through Firewire.
The last thing I've read about is Capture Magic HD. I would like to test this as well, but it appears the developers are out of business (their website is down), and i cannot find the software anywhere.
Any advice about the best way to go about this would be greatly appreciated. I've been googling away and searching forums for days now.

Really?  You've never opened up the capture window?
    Never since about CS2.
I have had a tapeless workflow for ever... so never had reason to even take a look at the Capture Window in later versions of Premiere.

  • How can I capture live video and still image by a DirectX compatible USB webcam using LabView ?

    Dear forum members
I'd like to design a user interface which shows a live video and capture still images for it by a DirectX compatible USB webcam using LabView or NI Vision Toolkit, how can I do this ? and If this is possible How can I reach the webcam DirectX filter properties and set them using LabView ? I would be grateful to anyone Who lead me to the correct solution.
        Sincerely
        Cem DEMiRKIR

    Cem,
With our example programs you can acquire and save an image (IMAQ >> File Input and Output >> Snap and Save to File.vi) from one camera, if you double the VI's to create the image and the image task, you can easily have one program acquire and save for two cameras.
I may need more information on what you mean by calibration.  Do you mean basic camera setup?  That can be done in Measurement and Automation Explorer by setting up the options within the IMAQ settings for each camera.  Or do you mean more complex calibration for special types of images?  The more description of what you mean, the better I will be able to help you get it done.  You mentioned zoom and motion parameters, what kind of motion?  Our vision drivers only control triggering the camera to acquire, then analyzing, processing and displaying the resulting image.
If you have more details on exactly what you want to do, that would be great.  Let me know if you have more questions, thanks!

  • How can i stream live from my mac

I am trying to stream a live feed of a game from my mac to a streaming site such as Twitch.com. However all the software i have found for this is only avalible for windows. Are there any mac versions?
    Thank you

No, but an exhaustive test is probably a bit like proving the non-existence of God
I'm not sure if EVERYTHING mirrors - I would imagine content providers might still be able to block this somehow, if not it makes blocking Airplay pretty pointless (aspect ratio issues etc aside I suppose).
Unopened iPad2 bought last week.  Not sure I really want/need it.

  • Can I video capture 'live action' from Viewer screen ...

Can I capture 'live action ' video as it appears on the 'viewer screen' in iMovie as I move the cursor across the 'source video' clips. Does iMovie allow me to record this 'action' to hard drive ?? ... Suggestions greatly appreciated.

it is this 'rapidly changing 'still' images' as it appears in the 'viewer' that I want to record.
You could use a screen capture application like Snapz ProX to capture the "preview" window as it is either playing or being "scrubbed." On the other hand, if you have QT Pro, you could also export the original source clip as a sequence of still images (image frequency can be selected by the user) to a folder and then simply open the "Image Sequence" using QT Pro to create a motion clip with a user selected frame rate for viewing. This approach would provide a more even playback than a screen capture of a "scrubbed" playback which depends on how fast and steadily you "scrub" the file.

  • ISight Capturing Live Video

    hi all,
I just got a macbook with a built in isight camera. The isight works fine for photobooth and iMovie. The problem i have is capturing live footage. I'm unable to have a video chat on ichat. Also, i tried using it on ustream.tv. It doesn't work. I changed the settings on the adobe flash player but it still didn't work. So, I think the problem is capturing live video.
    please help! It's frustrating me
    Thanks,
    Labze89

Thanks for clearing that up, Labze89
Based on that info, your iSight can certainly capture live video.
Ustream identifies itself as a beta site, so you should expect to encounter some problems, but you should be able to resolve them.
Good quality streaming video requires broadband speed. More info below on this subject. Contact your ISP if you need to purchase additional speed (bandwidth.)
Streaming live video also involves proper settings for your modem (and router, if you have one). If you have not recently rebooted (shut down for about a minute and then restarted) your modem and router, do so now. Be sure to let the modem's self-test finish before starting the router. Let the router's self-test finish before restarting your Mac. Rebooting sometimes is all that is required. If restarting does not correct your problem, you will need to consider other possibilities.
At least for users in the USA, enabling your router's "UP-n-P" setting is often all the router configuration that is required. However, sometimes manual port configuration is required. If so, the instructions for your router will give you the info on how to check and change the settings. What setting values you must use will come from the service (Ustream or iChat) you want to use.
If you have enabled your Mac's System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall, enabling your router's "UP-n-P" setting may allow you to stream video without additional configuration of your Mac's Firewall. If the problem persist when your Mac's Firewall is set to "On" and your router's (if you use one) UP-n-P setting is enabled, you may need to configure the necessary ports on your router and in your Mac's Firewall. Search "Help" on your Mac or see this link for Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Setting advanced firewall options.
Also, your ISP must not be blocking any ports required by the service you are attempting to use. See the ustream.tv FAQs for help on your ustream.tv problems. For your problem with streaming video, check FAQ #s 9, 7, and 15 first.
To minimize possible conflicts, disconnect all unnecessary A/V peripherals (such as eyeTV, game consoles, iPods, etc.) and quit all other applications while troubleshooting your problem. You can try adding them back one at a time once you can make your streaming work reliably.
If these and the other FAQs do not help you resolve your ustream.tv problems, and if you do not get help from some other Ustream user here, click ustream.tv's Contact Us link for email help directly from the people who determine how the site works. They should be your best source.
    <hr width="85%">
If you use dial-up, or if your broadband speed is not fast enough, iChat AV will also have video problems.
The Mac OS X 10.4: iChat AV system requirements show all requirements for using iChat AV. For instance, you will not be able to use iChat's video if you do not have at least 100 Kbps broadband both up and down. You can test your internet service's uplink and downlink speed (bandwidth) at Speedtest.net.
If you need to post back for more iChat AV help, please confirm that your system meets all system requirements and list your uplink and downlink speeds in your response.

  • Capturing live from a video mixer

We video our church services and want to make weekly DVDs of them. We have been using Final Cut Express with mixed success, but are about ready to switch to iMovie HD for several reasons.
The question is, can we capture live video from the video mixer (mixing two cameras and one computer to a single signal) to our hard drive using iMovie HD? If so, how.
    Many thanks!
    Pastor Ron Heffield (macfiveo)

First of all, if you're shooting either normal (4x3) DV or 'widescreen' DV, you'll have to select the appropriate format when you start a New Project. (..See items 6 and 7, and the accompanying pics, in my post here..)
So when you slide the little onscreen selector from the "scissors" icon to the "camcorder" icon, and then click on the camcorder icon itself to choose the name of your mixer it may show "DV-VCR" or some other device name, as it's unlikely to know the exact name of your mixer. If no name is showing, and the iMovie screen says "No Camera Connected", just quit from iMovie and then restart iMovie.
You should then see the live feed, and then just click on 'Import'.
Alternatively, instead of importing with iMovie, you might try downloading and using BTV. You can then edit that captured material with iMovie.
[..P.S: I don't think BTV, or BTV Pro, is a "universal" application, so it should work OK with your PowerPC Mac(s), but maybe not with an Intel-based Mac..]

  • Capturing live screenshots

How can I capture live screenshots to use them in iMovie (ultimatly to det it into iDVD). Specifically, I need to have a moving map showing the roads I followed on a trip.
Other problem on same topic: If I capture still screenshots (each one showing the map slightly moved about in the desired direction) with Capture and import them into iMovie as stills, each about 3 to 6 frames long, and then make footage from them, I have my animation but the quality of the images is less than desirable: can't even read city names (as if the stills were converted to a very low resolution).
If I could capture live screenshots as a movie (as I move the map around) I would have my animation. Can I do that? I would still have to be able to capture only a certain selection of the scree.
    Any ideas?

    http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/
I've been using it for years.
Be sure your capture area matches the 4:3 aspect ratio so your capture isn't expanded during import to DV editors like iMovie.
If needed you can change your Desktop resolution (Display Sys Prefs) to help get a 640X480 size at better quality.
You can also use the keyboard shortcuts for screen captures.
Command-Shift-3-Spacebar, Command-Shift-4 (drag to size the capture window). Once you know the dimensions of your first capture you need to keep them identical for subsequent captures. This is why Snapz Pro is a great helper.

  • Can I capture and record live feed on "Final Cut Pro X"?

I am an intern at my church and we are wanting to finish upgrading everything to mac at the church but we are needing a program that can capture live feed and later edit it so that I can create TV programs; hence, why I am needing to know can Final Cut Pro X capture live feed and record it? Along with that I need to know can I import avi. video files into Final Cut Pro X and it still allow me to edit them for our TV program? Thank you ahead of time for all of your help. Right now we are capturing in SD and I need to make sure it will also not be a problem capturing in SD and will make a smooth transition when we go to HD.

    See here:
Re: import live video hvr v1e
The above discusses HDV over firewire which is high def,  DV will be the same  deal.
So it depends on what type of camera you are going to use.
If you jump to an AVCHD USB cam the game changes.
So far I'm not aware of a direct import method.
There are workarounds with additional equipment at present.

  • I have an external hardrive for MAC, I needed to save something from my work computer so I can pass it on to my MAC, it requiered me to re-format my external HD and now when I connected to my MAC I only have "read only rights". How do I fix it?

I have an external hardrive for MAC, I needed to save something from my work computer so I can pass it on to my MAC, it requiered me to re-format my external HD and now when I connected to my MAC I only have "read only rights". How do I fix it? I run my Itnues from this external and now my library is gone. Luckily I have it saved somewhere else, which is not a problem, but I won't be able to write to this HD for right now. I can't see an option to give those permission back.

Unless what you have to transfer is enormous, skip the external HD altogether and use a USB flash drive; you can get them with capacities to 128GB. Format the flash drive as FAT32 or ExFAT as LowLuster suggests so it can be read and written to on both PC's and your Mac.

  • Just started up my Mac Mini out of the box, using a USB windows keyboard, it will not recognize letters so I am unable to enter serial number.  Anything I can do to get the mini mac right out of the box to recognize the windows keyboard?

Just started up my Mac Mini out of the box, using a USB windows keyboard, it will not recognize letters so I am unable to enter serial number.  Anything I can do to get the mini mac right out of the box to recognize the windows keyboard?  Do I have to buy an Apple Keyboard to get it to work right out of the box?

Is this a normal USB keyboard or is there anything specialized about it? Does this keyboard require you to install any special software to use it on a Windows box? Or is it usually a plug & play keyboard?
Normally if a Mac does not recognize a keyboard it asks you to press certain keys to identify the keyboard. What is happening on screen with this keyboard? What serial number are you referring to?

I need to provide our security group the mac address of all devices with wireless capabilities. can this be done? the mac addresses I am able to easily report on is the ethernet nic rather than the wireless nic.

BTW, they ask for the impossible, as anyone can plug in a USB FiFi
adapter - or tether their Blackberry - or ... so hopefflly they will not
    be overly picky.
Sort of... there isn't a hardware category for wireless NICs. However
most of the descriptions include the word "wireless" so you can create a
    custom report as follows:
    Reports-->Inventory Custom Reports-->Hardware Components-->New
Then enter a Name for the report, select Type = Hardware Components,
selecy Focus = LAN Adapter. Hit Continue.
In the Criteria section [+] add a criteria
    [Product Name] [contains] wireless
To be more specific, take a look at the descriptions returned without
any critera, and add any oddballs using OR grouping, so if a specific
model or the word "WiFi" appears - whatwever - you can catch it.
Finally select the report columns as needed.
    Run.
We notice that on machines where the WLAN can be disabled, the MAC
address is absent ( because at the time of the inventory, there is no
wireless NIC active, but the enumeration of HW show one. ) However, you
will still "know" there is a wireless NIC.
    Report looks like:
Atheros Communications Wireless LAN Adapter AR5212 802.11abg FOOUSER
    F00F00F00482 127.0.0.1 255.0.0.0 1
    Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 3945ABG FOO2USER F00F00F00D6C
    192.168.1.41 255.255.255.0 1
Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 3945ABG ANOTHERFOO ( no MAC )
( Works, but I would certainly vote for a more easily to get at
category, same for broadband interfaces. )
