Can u recommend some usages for my G3 please

Hi. I have my Mac Pro and two Macbooks but I have a pretty hyped up G3 Beige from when I used a drum scanner a few years ago.
Can anyone give me any ideas of what it could be used for today?
Is it pretty much useless.
I was thinking of putting my Nikon Film scanner on it and using it for that but what else please?

"a Boat anchor"? I realize this is 2008, but imagine saying that back in 1998 when the thing was brand new. In many respects the Beige G3 is the best, coolest computer ever made--by any company. That's due to having video capture hardware (some G3's) and both SCSI and IDE hard drive interfaces.
I have a boat anchor (Beige G3) which i use for various excellent things, including video capture. That requires RCA and S-Video input and output, which not all Beige G3's came with. Check the back of the machine. If your G3 has it, you can capture video at 320x240, 30fps. RCA is especially useful--it lets you capture from VCR's and from camcorders that have video out. Yes, one would normally use Firewire for camcorder capture, but no VCR has Firewire output. Nor do any DVD players (not that you'd normally capture from DVD at lower resolution but there might be reasons ). Mainly i capture video from old Beta and VHS tapes and export it to MPEG4. I also capture from my camcorder sometimes for working on videos for Youtube (which are 320x240). Video out also has its uses.
So there. At least one very good use for a Beige G3 (with video in/out). One other thing: if you have a library of older Mac (PowerPC) software, none of it will run on any post-2006 (Intel) Mac. If neither of those reasons suit you, well.... anchors away.

I would like to try to create some HDR images but this requires software to merge the bracketed shots into one. Could anyone recommend an application that will do this? Also, any online tutorials or training resources would be useful.

When you ask about software for creating HDR photos? a big question is whether you want special-effects-like imagery HDR or whether you want to realistically simply improve dynamic range of otherwise well-shot images.
The best way to improve the dynamic range of otherwise well-shot images is to buy a Nikon D3. For those without the $5k for a D3, Photoshop layers are an excellent solution. You make duplicate lightening screen or darkening multiply layers and erase and adjust opacity of various layer parts to achieve what you want.

Can anyone recommend a process for moving just my OS and Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom to the SSD?

I have an early 2011 MBP running Mountain Lion. I just removed the superdrive and added an SSD. I want to use it to boot from and also run Photoshop and Lightroom from. Can anyone recommend a process for moving my OS and those programs to the SSD?

I'm assuming your doing this because of data you don't want pernament on the SSD as they can' be scrubbed like hard drives can.
Disconnect any other drives.
1: Format the SSD 1 partition, click the box, option GUID and OS X extended journaled as the format.
2: Download Carbon Copy Cloner.
3: Clone your MacintoshHD partition to a blank powered external drive also formatted the same as above.
4: Hold option/alt key and boot the machine (wired or built in keyboard) and then select the clone to boot from,
5: Once in the clone, click it's drive name and change the name if it's the same as the OS X boot volume.
6: On the clone, head to System Preferences > Accounts and create a new Admin account.
7: If you need to move files between accounts on the clone, see this. Combine two+ Users Accounts on the same machine (be careful that your selecting the correct clones other account)
8: Once your moving files on the clone is complete, then log into the new user account and delete the old user account.
9: Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the clone to the SSD.
10: Use Disk Utiltiy to repair permissions on all drives.
The SSD should be moved to the HD slot and the HD to the optical slot and used as a file drive.
CCC has a option to not include certain folders like the other user account you don't want, however I tend not to recommend things that are not too far out of line with Apple's ways of doing things as it usually results in bad things occuring. Somewhere in OS X it's recorded of that other user account, so it might still show up in logins and such.
Also you may want to transfer some files to the other account, so that's why I recommend this method.

It seems like the room you are in might be adding it's "sound" and making your vocal sound like it is going through a tunnel,or "hollow" sounding.
Where are you doing your vocal recording? When you sing,do you hear your voice come back at you funny,like from a wall,or like you hear a faint "echo" or repeat in the room?
I could help you,but without actually listening what you are talking about it is almost impossible to know what problems you might be encountering,and also if you can point to a reference CD or artist that you are trying to sound like,I can't really give you concise advise as to what to do to get you there.Do you have any way of showing us some of the sound you are getting so we can listen to it? That can help a lot more than describing in words what you are not liking about your voacl sound.Again a lot of this is subjective use of language,so when you say "hollow sound" it could mean something else to me.
And as to the radio quality - I mean sound more round
and defined - someting that I could send to radio
and/or AR.
Well,I think you are putting the cart ahead of the horse here...try to get your sound "there" to where you like it first,before trying to be judged by "radio and A&R" people.
I am not sure how I can improve:
- better/additional hardware or
- better mastering/playing with software (I have IK
studio bundle - that I have only utilized so far as
sound source).
I am willing to spend additional $1000 if needed but
rather not.
I think you do not need to throw money at the problem...that never usually works.It is better to understand what sound you want to get first,and then try to get there.
I'll listen to what you have posted,but if you can have a link to a vocal without ANY processing,i.e. as you record it in your usual place,that would help more than a full mix of your music.I can tell easier what to do if your vocal is by itself.

I was under the impression that having a journal would be safer, not just for the boot drive. Any volume that is not properly unmounted before removed (or the couputer is turned off) might be left in an incomplete save state, since data might have been saved to buffers only, not to the disk proper.
To me safer would be better. Apple has added journaling to HFS+ which is good, and there are several journaling file systems for Linux. Nothing in common. Not even with Windows. I guess I will have to use HFS+ with the journal turned off, but it seems suboptimal to me.

The chances are that any USB cam is going to have Windows drivers (if you need them for a Intel)

Thanks for the advice. Just don't want to waste money on apps trying to get the right on. Not looking to do too much, just add filters maybe create a pie chart. Will the app you mentioned give added sums at the end of the spreadsheet like it would on the windows version?

According to Pandora when you're using it on your phone it uses 64 kbps or roughly 28 MB per hour roughly 36 hours of use to use 1 GB. I'm not sure if the Premium version is the same bitrate.

Drivers? You need a program to run them such as K-Jams. Then you will need to check your connections from the laptop to the monitor and make sure your settings are correct in System Preferences.

1, Photos are stored within your computer's iTunes, you just use iTunes as a means for trasnferring them to the iPad. Connect your iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
If you want more control over the photos that you copy to the iPad (e.g. the ability to delete them directly on the iPad, re-order them etc) then you could consider a third-party photo-management app instead of the built-in Photos app e.g. Photo Manager Pro

Many plugin vendors haven't updated their plugins to work with x64, or you have to download a special x64 version (Flash and Java for example). Which plugins is it that you are having problems with?
