Can u use a USB webcam on an iMac with built-in isight for Yahoo Messenge?

Hi...I hope someone can shed some light on this.
I have an intel core duo iMac 20 with built-in isight.
I use Yahoo Messenger (the new version) and have no problems getting my isight to work with it.
For most circumstances, the built-in isight is fine... but sometimes having a camera with a zoom feature and the ability to pan further up or down would be most beneficial.
I also own a usb Logitech (pro-4000) webcam (the last series for which they have Mac support) and have installed the latest Mac drivers for it. I can get the Logitec to run its built-in applications, but when I try to select a webcam to use for Yahoo (in the yahoo preferences webcam section), the only selection available to me is the built-in isight.
Is there any way to get the option to choose between the Logitech and the isight?
I tried macam drivers, but that just gave me an application that allowed me to record video or snap pics from my Quickcam, Yahoo Messenger still does not recognize it as a source.

How can I use Aperture 3 on my new iMac with Maverick?

Do you own a copy of Aperture, perhaps bought for another Mac?
If you have not bought Aperture, you need to buy it from the AppStore.
But if you own Aperture and have it bought from the AppStore on another Mac, sign into theAppStore on your new iMac with the same AppleID you used to buy Aperure on your other Mac.  Then look at the "Purchased" tab of he AppStore. It show Aperture, with the "Install" button to the right. Simply press the "Install" button and download it to your new iMac.  Or if you have bought Aperture on a CD/DVD, run the installer from the CD/DVD on your new mac and immediately run software update to upgrade the Aperture 3. version to version that will run with Mavericks.

  • External webcams -- do any work with built-in isight?

I have an intel Macbook with the built-in isight camera. I'd like to be able to use an external web cam -- but I can't get any to work -- the machine simply ignores them.
Can anyone tell me which, if any, external cams have worked with this setup?
And for those who may ask -- the isight works fine, but I'd like the flexibility of having a cam on a cord so I can point it around the room without have to move the entire laptop.
    Thanks,
    John

This appears to be the closest thread I could find regarding the use of external webcams with OSX.
I recently acquired an XBox 360 webcam which for all of my pre-purchase research told me was suprisingly compatible with Macs. I am running 10.4.11 on an Intel Macbook, but the webcam does not produce an image. Before I accept the reality that I've possibly purchased a faulty camera, I wanted to check here to see if perhaps I needed a driver, or some additional software to make it operative. I've installed the most recent MacCam app as a precautionary measure although my understanding is that the XBox 360 should run natively on Tiger and above, a simple plug & play. Although the camera is recognized in my System Profiler, again it doesn't produce an image, nor does it appear to to powering up via the 2.0 USB port, not even with the addition of MacWeb.
I'm I missing something, or have I just purchased a lemon? Any feedback?
macam is not required for your XBox 360 Live webcam (or any other UVC webcam) when used with Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later. You can uninstall it from your 10.4.11 Mac.
If you have not recently done so, shut down your Mac and do a cold boot (not merely a "Restart.") If restarting your Mac does not correct the problem, try all suggestions related to built-in iSight from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
(You can use the suggestions for your webcam because both it and built-in iSight are USB cams.)
If your ONLY problem is with one particular app that is supposed to use a webcam, you may simply need to reinstall that one app.
However, if the testing suggested there shows that your webcam problem occurs in all apps in more than one user account, the reset suggested there may restore proper webcam function.
However, if your XBox 360 Live webcam still does not work after carefully following all relevant suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article but it does show as a USB device in your Mac's System Profiler, your problem may be with your Mac OS. Try applying the 10.4.11 Combo Update using the following process:
    • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.
    • Download and install OS X 10.4.11(Intel) Combo Update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL172
(PPC Mac users should use http://support.apple.com/kb/DL170)
    • Immediately after the restart that completes the update, repair permisssions again.
If necessary, use the suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 again after applying the Combo Update to determine if the symptoms are the same.

  • Can I use a USB Lead to connect PC with my Printer instead of the network connection?

I have recently moved my BT home Hub (wireless modem) from my study where it sat beside my printer, into the living room downstairs. So that it’s A, nearest to the BT access point (less loss) and B, it can connect directly to my TV, Blu-ray & BT Vision box. I have used a pair of Powerline adaptors to connect the home hub back to my HP PC and it’s all working very well with a faster broadband speed reaching my PC.
The only problem I now have is with my printer, which connects wirelessly to the home hub.
The printer is now right on the edge of the wireless range and really struggles to make a connection, sometimes failing altogether. The printer takes a long while to start up and sometimes fails to collect all of the data.
    My real question is:
Can I simply connect my PC to the printer using a USB cable (USB A to USB B) and if I do, do I need to make any other changes to the way my PC connects with the printer?

No problem.  Here's the link for the download for your operating system.  Click Here  When I sent my first post, I wasn't sure which operating system you were using.
Here's something you might try first before you do the download.  You can leave the current drivers installed ( might come in handy if you decide to reconnect to the network ).  Click on your Start button, and then select All Programs.  Scroll down to the HP folder and open it.  Then open the folder for the Photosmart 6510.  Select Printer Setup and Software.  You can go through the installation process as you did before, but this time you will choose usb connection.
    Let me know what happens.
    Good Luck !

  • How can I use the speakers from my old iMac (with miniRCA? plug) on a new iMac

How can I use the speakers (M-Audio) from my old 24" iMac on a new 27" iMac?  There is no jack on the new iMac - is there an adapter that will use the mini-RCA (?) plug from my old speakers to connect them to a new iMac?  Thanks ...

    Thanks again!
Hmmm ... I wonder.  The input jack for external speakers quit working on my old iMac (it made lotsa static noise for a while when I moved the plug or computer, then quit working completely; I figure something inside the computer got loose or crapped out - and I'm too cheap/lazy to take it the 20 miles to the nearest shop that might fix it).  When I plug the speakers into the headphone jack on the old iMac, I get very low volume or just one channel.
I don't have the new iMac yet, but I was hoping to use these old speakers instead of buying new ones.  I will certainly try your solution - what do I have to lose?  If they don't work, then I get new ones - or try something else.
    Many thanks for your time!

  • Can I use a USB superdrive DVD reader/writer with a mac pro?

The internal CD/DVD read/writer in my macpro (2 x 2.66 ghz dual-core xeon) broke, so I purchased an external USB superdrive, thinking I could use it as an external drive. It does nothing when plugged into the mac pro, I cant even insert a disk. It seems to not even have power.
Anyway I now see the device (superdrive) is intended for a macbook air or mac mini.
Am I toast? Is there no way I can get this thing to work with the mac pro?
I dont think I can return it, I've already discarded all the packaging.
    Thanks for any advice.

I agree it would not take a lot of time, 2 minutes perhaps for the world record holder, for me more like 10 perhaps, not including the time involved in purchasing the drive, figuring out how to recycle the old broken one that comes out, etc.
However the key point is that if I can get this drive to work, the cost will be $0, as I've already paid for it. So I would be most interested in doing that, if possible. If it's not possible, then I'll have no choice to pay $30 or however much, for a new one.

  • Can I use Time Machine to sync my Imac with my Macbook Pro?

Is it possible to maintain my hard drives in sync using Time Machine?

No. TM is machine specific and is not ideal for syncing machines. You need syncing software or MobileMe. MobileMe has a 2 month free trial. Oh, cloning software of specific files may work as well depending on what you are syncing.

  • Can I use a USB camera to import directly live footage into imovie as opposed to firewire?

    Hi!
I use iMovie to directly import live footage from my camcorder.
I've been using old Mini DV cameras to do this but this technology is being outdated with camera manufacturers now all moving to USB.
Can I use a USB camera to take live footage directly into iMovie just the same was as i've been doing with the firewire connection via the old Mini DV camcorders.
Alternatively, are there any firewire camera's that any could reccomend?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Chris.

No, you cannot import in real time from USB. These USB camcorders will import faster than real time or slower than real time, depending on the speed of your computer.
If you need to import in real time, there are some USB webcams out there that are used mainly for video chats and the like that might work. You may find an HD model. You can also do this with your built in iSight camera.
With a real HD video camcorder, you will need to import it after you shoot.

  • Can I use an USB disc with my macbook pro bought in 2005.  What capacity will it take 2.00 or 3.00?

can I use an USB disc with my macbook pro bought in 2005.  What capacity will it take 2.00 or 3.00?

The first MacBook Pro's were not released until the beginning of 2006, and they had USB 2 ports.
Anything available new in 2005 would have been a PowerBook G4 and they also had USB 2 ports.
A USB 3 disk will just transfer data slower then it could do, if you plug it into a USB 2 port though, so you can buy either.
