Can Unix be used to keep a current browser for PPC 10.4.11?

Folks:
New format here is blowing my mind . . . where am I? Posted a similar question here about a month back and got a reply from Linc Davis suggesting Fink as a way of getting an open source browser that would stay current as my iMac ppc running 10.4.11 aged gracefully. I took that advice and got the version of fink and fink commander for my computer and spent many hours downloading the base apps???? But, as a GUI guy there wasn't anything that would sorta do anything except take up disc space. I found "mozilla" in the FC table and I installed that and when I typed "mozilla" into an X11 window it would cough and then a couple minutes later a mozilla window opened!!!! However, the version was older than the version I had when my iMac was running 10.1.5 . . . which was only last year that I changed to 10.4.11. I tried to get a window manager going, thinking that I would need one, so I tried to get sawfish going but after many hours the install failed. I've spent many emails with the fink beginner list trying to troubleshoot that process, which is requiring some patch or something to get done. I don't mind a little activity to get something set up, but I am used to the "download and install" type of process.
Yesterday I searched the apple discussion Unix db trying to find similar questions and found someone wanting to surf the web and do email with Unix from a few years ago and there were some recommends for "lynx" or "W3M"--the "lynx" website was unresponsive to clicking on links. This was from a couple of years ago--are there any updates or newer browsers now available that can get around the web at current speeds? The 10.4.11 apple system is basically fine for my needs, but, the open source browsers I use, Camino, Sea Monkey, are soon dropping support for Tiger and it seems like fink is having some problems to keep the connection going for the ppc/Tiger platform as well. Any other options to get fairly current browsers working in ppc units? In one of the replies to my last question I got a recommend and a link to "Ten4Fox" as a re-work of Firefox and that may be my best hope, but, haven't been totally crazy about Firefox for the mac . . . Would UNIX have something thru fink or macports that would keep a browser going into the distant future? And, then how to get them to actually do something? Many thanks.

I'm having the same issue. Different programs though, it's mostly browsers and adobe products. I thought maybe it was heat related but it's not. It seems that as soon as Lion was about to be released, the updates were updating in preparation for Lion. I delayed updating the software updates because Adobe (my career) isn't totally compatible with Lion yet. Before I even started getting update notifications, though, within the recent week, it's freezing up constantly. I don't know what to do. It seems to be happening with my brower choice, I'm using Firefox and Chrome as my main browsers. I keep alot of sessions open but that shouldn't cause (and has never caused) this constant freezing issue. I did install some extensions in Chrome and Firefox, maybe that's the problem... The issues began after those were installed though, 3 weeks to a month later... Maybe the software updates (that I installed thinking it would correct the freezing issue), maybe they are preventing other browsers ? Maybe Apple is getting rid of Chrome and Firefox ? I'm not having issues with Safari (yet) though I just opened it for the first time in 2 months... only because the macbook is freezing (and it's also rebooting while asleep, closing all of my projects and not saving them)...
My Macbook Pro is the same year and the HDD is a year new. The manufacture recall had the video whatever replaced a few months ago.
I've never had these kinds of problems with an Apple computer. I'm using Snow Leopard and I'm very attached to this laptop ! It's configured perfectly.

Why can't i use "INNER JOIN" in a query for SQL Server with JDBC??????

I'm trying to execute some SQL queries and I just don't understand what's wrong.
I�m using Tomcat and SQL Server in order to do this, but when I�m try to execute a query with a INNER JOIN statements Tomcat raise a SQL exception... at the very first time I thought there was a problem with database connection but I realize that a simple query to a table works pretty well. then I found out some problems with JDBC:ODBC.... so I install JDBC for SQL Server 2000 and test with the same simple query and works..... so, I come to a conclusion.... INNER JOIN or JOIN statements can't be used in JDBC..... please... somebody tell I�m wrong and give me a hand...

That's exactly what I think, driver it's raising the exception, but I don't know why.... i test the same query with INNER JOIN directly from SQL Query Analyser and it's works perfectly, my problem ain't SQL, but JSP and JDBC 'cause i'm a newbie about these issues.
Common sense tell me possible problems lie in SQLServer drivers 'cause i run the same pages on JRUN through jdbc:odbc and do works well, but by now i just depend on Tomcat.....
I've installed SQL Server drivers for JDBC but i just find it doesn't work fully... could be the version of JDK i've installed? what version do i need?
( I'm running Tomcat 4 with JDK 1.4 & SQL Server 2000 W2K )

I am curious to know if It would be possible to use (Logic Pro 8, or Logic Express 8, or even Garage Band), to function purely as a host for AU virtual instruments (i.e. Kontakt3/PLAY/ or others) running as plug-ins on a stand-alone Mac, which I could then trigger via midi from a second Mac running LP8 (Master-Slave scenario using two Macs) ?

I never thought of using Mainstage for this application, that's an interesting option, I'm not sure how Mainstage handles this type of functionality, but I will look into it. It's also good to know that LP8/ LE8 can be used as a host for (AU) VI's.
What are the advantages of using Mainstage over LP8/LE8 ? Is it designed specifically for this type of function ? I thought it is designed to function as a real time /Live performance tool, where you would map various instruments to certain zones on a keyboard, and have access to various sounds for live playing, well... I might be wrong, so I will research this a bit further.

I have an iTunes account for my personal iPod Touch - have had for several years. When my work provided me with an iPhone and now and iPad 2, they all fall under my personal iTunes account. Is it possible for me to create a separate account for my work devices and apps, while leaving my personal account intact? I use both my compter at home and at work to sync occasionally.

You might be going about this the wrong way....
To use an iTunes gift card click Redeem under Quick Links right side of the App Store window.

Why can't I use/build an SD card reader for iPhone?

I have searched and searched for an SD card reader for iPhone. Apple offers the camera connection kit for iPad but for some reason they have made it incompatible with iPhone. This doesn't make a whole lot of since to me unless they are trying to drive users to buy an iPad. So far I have only found one SD card reader that claims to work on iPhone: http://www.zoommediaplus.com/index.html . If they have actually made it work with iPhone and the app is in the App Store then Apple must allow apps to transffer data from SD cards. If so I can make one myself and build the hardware to go with it since the Apple SD card reader doesn't work on iPhone.
I guess my main questions are:
     Does Apple allow SD Card readers for iPhone?
     if not:
          Why don't they?
          Can anyone tell me where it is documented that you can not use SD Cart readers with iPhone?
          How does ZoomMediaPlus get their app in the App Store if it isn't allowed?
     if they do:
          Why aren't their more SD Card readers for iPhone?
          Why doesn't Apple's lightning SD Card read work with iPhone?

Of course they forbid it. You realize that an iPhone 6+ owner cannot use the Apple Lightning SD Card Reader, don't you? We know the support for their own SD Card Reader is built into iOS 8 because it works with iPads. Therefore, Apple intentionally turned the support OFF for iPhones.

No, Apple forbids any third parties from producing one. They produce them for iPads but they cannot work on iPhones, because Apple chooses not to permit such functionality (i.e., they forbid it). Third parties produce such adapters for Android, so obviously they would want to do the same for iOS so they could sell more.
You're recommendation for AirStash is uninformed. I've tried it and found it to be a clunky time-consuming workaround if all you want to do is import some photos from an SD card. Using Photos in iOS to import photos is a far more elegant solution - an Apple solution that just works (if you purchased an iPad).
If it bothers you that iPhones do not work with Apple's own Lightning SD Card Reader, then I suggest you leave feedback instead of attacking those who point it out:

Can Discoverer be used as an XML Data source for XMLP ?

I am wondering if Discoverer can generate an XML Data Source for XMPL.
I have heard that Discoverer Viewer can have XML as an output. Is there a way of using this XML output with XMLP and, if yes, how to batch both steps ?

My understanding is that Discoverer does not generate XML data as an ouput that XMLP can consume. The XML is does generate is actually an XML RDF for Oracle Reports.
XMLP is integrated thou, when you export your Disco report to PDF thats XMLP doing the conversion to PDF for you.

Can you really use Display String formula to test for NULL

I am trying to manipulate the Display String of a field throught the Format Editor. If a field is null, it should display "N/A", or "No data given", or anything else appropriate I might choose.
I can't get this feature to work and I'm wondering if there's a bug here. I'm using the following formula:
if (isnull() or trim() = "")
then "N/A"
else
Am I doing something wrong or is there a better way to do this?

The other way to display "N/A", or "No data given" if a field is null is using a formula with if -else statement as follows:

then "N/A"
else

How can I delete events, I keep getting multiple dates for an event, have deleted and then continue to re-appear. Any suggestions?

Birthdates entered into the calendar become multiple events. In one case it has repeated itself over 200 times. I have manually deleted these events at least 3 times and they continue to reappear. Any ideas how to correct?

One can delete it from one's computer. In the finder go to homeuser, movies, imovie events, delete the footage.
Then reopen iMovie and see if that helps.
