Can users edit Library items?

Hi everyone. I'm almost done with my first Contribute site
and I had a question. My client has a small piece of text that is
shown in the header of every page and this text is something that
they want to change regularly. I added a Library item for this
chunk in Dreamweaver thinking that this would be the proper way to
allow them to edit it in one place in Contribute.
I found where I can grant permissions for editing the various
types of shared assets, but I don't see that they can edit the
Library item. Is there a way to do this or do I need to set this up
differently (server-side include, etc.)?
Thanks in advance,
Jason

I think you should use a SSI in your Template and provide
your user with a link to that include-file, so they can edit it in
Contribute.

  • Can not edit Calendar Items on iPhone 4 that were sent from Outlook 2013

    Hi Folks,
When receiving a calendar item from Outlook 2013, I can accept it, but not edit it. When I receive the same item from Outlook 2003, I can accept AND edit.
How can I edit calendar items sent from Outlook 2013?
We are not using an Exchange server, simply sending the calendar items via email. We noticed this when we upgraded our office from MS Office 2003 to 2013.
Thank you so much for your help!

Are you sure the Outlook 2013 calendar entries are set set to shared?

  • After Edit Library Item-  "Premature end of JPEG file"

Hello, I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.  In DW CS5 after editing a Library item and saving, DW asks if it should update pages containing the item.  I tell it to go ahead, and after some processing I get an error box titled "JPEG Library Error."  The message is "Premature end of JPEG file."  Nothing else except "OK"!  I can't imagine what this is referring to or if the error is causing the pages to not be updated with the edited lbi.  I don't have any JPEG images i nthe Library item.  Here's a link to the Libraty item:

    Update- Solved!
An answer to this thread dated April 30, 2009 of the same subject by David_Powers, community Professional, did the trick.  I wound up renaming the DW Configuration folder in C:\Users\dmckeen\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS5\en_US\Configuration (where dmckeen is my username) and letting DW rebuild it.

  • InDesign CS4 Library- can't get library items on to pages

I'm fairly new to InDesign CS4.
A book I'm reading has a tutorial telling me to drag library items from the library to a page.
This is a library that the book author created that came with the book.
However, I can't get material from the library to any of the pages.
Anytime I try dragging any of the images or other items from the library to my page in InDesign CS4, I get a small "No" symbol (a circle with a slash through it).
So I clicked on the image in the library that I wanted to add to the page, and using both the content menu (and later, the library panel's menu) to select "Place Item," nothing happened.
How do I get content in a library on to a page?
Dragging and using "Place Item" are not working for me.

Hello, Lee Sarah, and thanks for answering.
If I understand you correctly, this is what I did:
I "right" clicked on the Library file icon on my hard drive, called "Healthy Pets CS4."
This brought up a context menu.
From there, I went to "Properties."
Under "Properties" > "Attributes," "Read only" is not checked off, nor is "hidden" checked off.
In the "Healthy Pets CS4 Properties" dialog box, I then clicked on the the "Security" tab, which brought up all sorts of stuff about permissions, read /write,  etc.
I guess I should mention at this point that I'm on a computer running Windows Vista, since this might be pertinent to my issue (?)
Although it's my computer, it has me on here as two different people (I'm on as Administrator and under my first name, which let's just say is "Graphics Cuddly Bear.")
On the "Security" tab page of the dialog box is a heading called "Group or user names," and from there, depending on which name you pick from the user names, different options get high lighted in the ""Permissions for Authenticated Users" box below it.
So, under "Permissions for Authenticated Users" (when the users "Autheticated Users" and "Admins" are selected) the following are checked off with a check mark,
(as if to say, "These are the things you have permissions to do with this file"):
    Modify
    Read and Execute
    Read
    Write
The only things I do not have permissions for when I check off  "Administrator" on that list is "Special Permissions."
When AU (Autheticated Users) is checked it says I do not have "Full Control" or "Special Permissions."
However, when I clicked on my name (GCB - "Graphics Cuddly Bear") under the heading of "Group of user names," these two things are the only ones checked off:
    Read and Execute
    Read
So I went in to another area of this box and gave my account ("GCB") the "Write" ability.
When I went back to the box, a check mark next to "Write" then appeared. So it appears to be telling me that under GCB, I can now write to that file.
So when I opened and closed out of InDesign and re-opened it, it still will not allow me to drag the files/text/images from the library.
I still get the little "No" symbol.
It also still will not let me use the "place" command, either.
I've gone ahead and worked thorugh this chapter without being able to use the author's library items, but it makes working on her tutorials very difficult.
And it's rather pointless, since the entire chapter is about how to use the software's library.
I got a response from the book's publisher (Delmar / Cengage) to ask them for help, if they would provide me with working copies of the files, or some other work around, and they were NOT the least bit helpful.
A representative from Delmar/ Cengage e-mailed me to say that because I purchased the book at Amazon's site (rather than from them directly) that they would not help me, which I thought was cruddy and not classy.
I don't see that it entirely matters where I bought the book from; they're the ones who made it.

  • Problem opening correct Fireworks program to edit Library item

I am working on a PC with the CS3 Suite -- Dreamweaver,
Fireworks, Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, and Bridge. I used MX2004
    before upgrading.
I have a Library Item I want to edit that was created in
Fireworks CS3. It is a "Fireworks HTML" rollover menu.
I open the Library item in DW CS3 and then go to the
"Properties" window and push the "Edit" button, which should open
the Library file in Fireworks CS3.
Instead, I get a message that DW CS3 is unable to launch
    "Macromedia\Fireworks MX 2004\Fireworks.exe"
I have gone to "Edit" and then "Preferences" and ensured that
the File Types/ Editors for .png, .gif, and .jpg. jpe. jpeg is set
    to "Adobe Fireworks CS3\Fireworks.exe"
Does anyone out there know what else I can do to correct this
    problem?

Do you still have Fireworks MX2004 on your system? If so, I
would remove it. If you are using Windows, you may need to edit the
Registry to remove entries for Fireworks MX2004. Also make certain
that all references to FW MX2004 are removed from Dreamweaver CS3's
preference window in the File Types/Editors tab.

  • Can't update library item in object library

I used to be able to update library items, and did so often. Now the "Update library item" option is not just grayed out-- it's gone from the panel menu.
In order to update an item, I have to drag it to the page, update, then delete the corresponding library item, then drag the updated item back from the page into the library (and name it again). Do-able, but a lot more time consuming.
I have checked Edit > Menus, Context & Panel Menus and the Update Library Item feature visibility is on.
Is there something I'm overlooking? Thanks for any help!
    Mary Sargeant

Might be time to delete InDesigns prefs.
To delete the preferences, hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt+Cmd just as you launch InDesign.
Doing this will remove any workspaces you have set up along with Print/PDF Presets.
    Back these up first.

  • How do I edit Library Items in Contribute?

I've been attempting to edit a  Library Item in Contribute CS5 with no real luck.  First in said it  could not open the file so I designated "simpleText" and also MSWord as  alternate programs to edit the Library with. (I need something that my  client has access to on a PC in their office).  Contribute allowed me to  open, edit and even publish...giving me a notice of "success" but when  accessing the actual page online, the changes were not updated.
Adobe Tech support was useless on this issues.
Here is the code for the Library Item:

    <style type="text/css">
    .newsHeader {

Any  help or suggestions to try would be appreciated.  I created the item in  Dreamweaver.  Code is directly from Dreamweaver.  I'm not a coder.
    Thanks!

    1. In the main menu go to >File>Actions>Edit page source in external application (Dreamweaver)
    2. In the Dreamweaver make the necessary modifications.
    3. Save the file
    4. Return to Contribute and publish the page

  • I can't fix library item

    InDesign CS6 newbie here.
I converted some Quark library items to InDesign. I've experienced the issue below on three different library items.
Each of these library items is a word or words with a 3-pt rule above and a .25-pt rule below. They were originally built with the font Arial Black OTF and included a style called Head Rules AB (for Arial Black).
When our newspaper converted from Quark 7.5 to InDesign CS6 we reorganized our fonts and, for no special reason, decided to go with Arial Black True Type.
Of course, when we first used these library items they showed up with missing fonts. My first attempt at a fix involved just changing the font in the library item and resaving it. Didn't work. Still showed up as missing.
I then did more exploration and thought the font was missing because the OTF font was assigned to the Head Rules AB style sheet. I fixed the style sheet and assigned to all of our page templates.
The library item still showed up with a missing font. I then checked our Character styles and noticed all the Arial Black-related styles had the wrong Arial Black font. I corrected that issue and rebuilt one of the library items from scratch. When I pull it onto a page it still shows up as the wrong Arial Black font.
Obviously there is something here I don't understand. If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks.

Are you talking about the print dialog box in Windows XP?
If so, then it is not a Report 6i issue but rather your OS.

  • Moving from MX2004 to CS5 -can't update library items

I have upgraded from MX2004 to CS5 and at the same time upgraded laptops from a macbook to a macbook pro. Not sure how it happened, but the source for the two local views is diferent now (both files have the same name, but one is in lower case -so I know they are different). I think I 'loaded' the new one from a memory stick where I stored the site in case anything went wrong, but had named it differently.
This is causing me real problems trying to update library items on the new laptop, as I can only seem to do it on the old one (which means moving the whole site backwards and forwards).
On the old laptop I am asked if I want to update all files, but on the new one I get the message:
"Making this change would require chaging code that is locked by a template or a translator. The change will be discarded"
How can right things or synchronize them so that I can ditch the MX2004 and old laptop?

Perhaps I have not been specific enough, it's not a single file, its the whole site that is drawn from different sources on the two different laptops.
Apologies if I have given an answer to the wrong question Murray and caused you to shout 'doh!'

I have an iPod Nano, and just downloaded iTunes 11.3 for Windows. I can see my iPod Library, but I can't edit it - i.e. delete songs to make room to add new. Can anyone help?

    Hey there Bayvette,
You will want to use these instructions to help you sync music onto your iPod, keeping in mind that you can uncheck any music you want to remove from your iPod and it will be removed when you initialize the syncing process:

  • Moved page - can't update library item associated with it.  Please help

I moved a page on my website from one folder to another.  I am not able to update the library item associated with it now.  It still has the old navigation on the page.  Please help.  Thank you

Did you move it with your operating system's file manager or did you move it from within DW's Files panel?

  • How can I edit navigation items outside of iWeb08?

I created a website for a friend, published the site and then backed up the HTML files to an external disk. I've since re-formatted my iMac and installed 10.5
Now I need to remove pages from the site and have to edit a few areas of the pages but i cannot import the backed-up project into iWeb. I have seen the other posts about transferring the domain file, but this process cannot be used because I did a clean installation. I know that there is nothing more I can do about that, c'est la vie.
BUT, I do have Dreamweaver and am trying to edit the raw HTML files outside of iWeb.
The problem is I cant find where I can edit the Navigation items. The pages seem to reference a Navbar widget, but i can't find any of the page names in the JS, CSS or XML files. Does iWeb reformat the links into something else? I've been able to get into the code and remove lines of copy and body links, but the Navigation has me stumped. All i want to do is remove a couple of pages from the global nav.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

iweb nav bar info is in your site's feed.xml file.

  • Can't Edit library image in Photoshop  =(

    I just installed Captivate 2
After recording my first demo, I tried to edit the slide (the
"background" image in the library using the EDIT IN command. This
command opens MSPaint (gahh! what a horrible program!). There is no
way that I can see to tell it to open Photoshop.
By the way, in the tutorial on editing your show that comes
with the program, the movie shows Photoshop being opened.
    In this
    Online
    Article
, there is a "note" that the external program is set during
installation, but no such set-up was offered me.
Please help me to make PHOTSHOP my editor. Thanks! =D

Hi Monooxylon and welcome to our community
Try right-clicking and selecting "Edit with...". This should
allow you to browse to where PhotoShop is installed and choose it.
Once you do this, Captivate should remember the setting and use it
    from there forward.
Also, keep in mind that the editor can be different for
different image types. For example, .BMP images may open using
MSPaint, .GIF open using FireWorks and .JPG open using PhotoShop.
But you get to choose what opens with what.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How can I edit / delete items in the "Ask" tool bar? (e.g. I want to get rid of Facebook and You Tube)

I would like to control what items appear on the Ask tool bar and in what order they are displayed. In particular, I would like to get rid of the Facebook, YouTube, CNN, and Fun Games buttons which I see on this tool bar.

    Please do the following.<br><br>
#In the location bar where you normally type in a web address, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.<br><br>
#If you see a window which says "This might void your warranty!", click the button which says "I'll be careful, I promise" so you can continue with the next step.<br><br>
#In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''<br><br>
#Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q= and then click OK.<br><br>
    #Close the tab
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
'''To reset your home page, do the following'''.<br><br>
    * Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.<br><br>
    * Click the Firefox button, go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''.<br><br>
    * Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.<br><br>
    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.<br>
If this suggestion resolves the problem for you, please click the '''Solved it''' button next to this post after you log in into the forum. This will help others searching for a solution to the same problem.
