Can Visual Composer talk to/connect to any database?..

Hi ,
My first question is if Visual Composer can talk to a database directly?
I would like to know the all the databases which visual composer can connect to?
Does it connect only to SAP Backend systems?
Or can it connect to Any Database like SQL server etc.,?
If so, how can visual composer be configured to any database?...

Hi Vaishali,
It can talk to Any SAP Data base or Java or Oracle data base through portal.
First you have to confihure all your backends in Your portal and Connect them to Your VC User through Usermapping.
So all Backends will appear in VC There by you can use the for your application in your portal.

Can Visual Composer applications only be created and deployed on EP?

We are working with Visual Composer on our Enterprise Portal box and I like it a lot. However, our company is investigating Microsoft Sharepoint as a possible candidate for Portals. This could mean that we are not going to use EP. I would like to know if it is possible to create and deploy Visual Composer applications if we don't have EP installed.
As VC is dedicated SAP technology I don't think this can work but I want to be be 100 % sure. Maybe there are other ways to run VC in a sharepoint portal that I don't know off?

You need the SAP Enterprise Portal to run Visual Composer.
In the VC you create pages and iviews that need the enterprise portal services to run.

Can Visual Composer make decisions based on boolean logic?

I need to know if I can use Visual Composer to manipulate data results based on boolean logic. Basically, if a month is less than the current month, I want a formula to dispay A instead of B. Can this be done?
Can I also say, if current month is greater than this month then hide values, else show values?

In that case you don't need VC. I would then directly do that with BEx Query Designer and the use of a formula and boolean operators there. Here is the help of how you can achieve that:

Once you created sthe query this way, you can use the BEx Analyzer to embed it in Excel, and then use Information Broadcasting to schedule the calculations.
Of course if your requirements change and displayint that data in VC is good enough, then you can still go as mentioned in my answers above

SAP Standard ESS/MSS component are available in ITS and Web Dynpro Based. ESS/MSS component are not based on visual composer applications..
But you have developed custom ESS/MSS applications in visual composer as per client requirement and integrated in the ESS/MSS component. Then you can use visual composer to modify visual composer applciations.

How can I speed up the connection to the database?

I am running a JSP application with regular JavaBeans not EJB and connecting to the database through these beans. The connection is set to stay in memory as long as the bean is in session. However when I am running more than 7 sql statements seperatly the execution of the page slows down.
I have tried using connection pooling but doesn't help much.
I am not using the JDBC setting in JRUN, I am connecting through the jdbc.odbc drivers provided by the JDK. Basically coded the connection and the connection pool.
Is there something else that can be done to speed up the execution of the page?

Thank you all for your input I was trying to work this project to learn JSP so I am not looking at purchasing any drivers right now. That is the reason why I stuck to the JDBC-ODBC Bridge. Are there any other drivers available for MS SQL Servers that are free.

(Presumably you explicitly close your >ResultSets/Statements/Connections when you are >done with them.)You are right about that yes I am closing them at the end of the session, which I think should be after all of the SQL's get executed but I could be wrong it might be openeing a new connection for each SQL which inturn might be the reason for this whole problem. I will take a look into that.

Creating an Application module not connected to any database

In my application, we have only a custom VO, created as per http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/web.1013/b25947/bcadvvo008.htm. In this VO, we are reading a CSV file.
My question is, as my application does not require any database as its source, I dont want to have any database associated with my ADF application. However, when I create the AM, it doesnt let me go ahead till I give it a database connection. Is there a way to circumvent this, or remove the database connection related code after creating the AM in this way.

One note, for people who try this - in the link, Lucas is using http://127.0.0.1:8988 etc to specify the url to the csv...but i guess for that to work, you need to have some kind of web server running.. But if you just have a local file and right now, no web server to use 127.0.0.1, you can use file:///c:/test.csv, where the csv is sitting in c drive.

I have to MBPs one one wifi network; when one connects, the other disconnects. Can't keep them both connected. Any advice?

We have two MBPs on an Asus router (N56U) and we find that only one computer can connect at a time. Within a few seconds of the other connecting, the one that was connected disconnects. When we try to log on again, we're told that the connection timed out. Or it "connects" but there is no internet. Any advice?

Thank you for this. I agree: the problem seems to be either the router or the modem. I now have an Airport Extreme and am hoping this solves the problem.
Only now I have another problem--the airport utility can't find the airport extreme if I plug in an external harddrive into the airport extreme. I should start another thread for this, yes?

NW 7.2 Visual Composer - Switch off connection pooling

Hello,
I'd like to switch off connection pooling for a VC app running on NW CE 7.2. I found some entries in destination management for my destination system accordingly (pool size, max time .... and an option to switch it off).
But it doesn't work. Any ideas why not?

thanks for the answer, but it's not working as expected.
I thought if connection pooling is switched off that the connection is closed when the user logs off or navigates to a different iView (without backend connection).
This doesn't happen.
Am I wrong in my understanding?

After upgrading to Lion, I can not connect to my NAS drive. I can see it but not connect. Any ideas?

I really need some help please as I’m new to vbscripting and TNS connections and all this complicated stuff.
I’m trying to make a connection from one of our Oracle servers and extract some basic data but after trying for a couple of days I’m stumped.
Here’s the details and I hope someone can advise me in a simple language on where I’m going wrong.
The server I am trying to connect from is an Essbase server which already has an ODBC connection to the Oracle server setup in the ODBC Datasource Administrator. The driver that I can see in the ODBC Datasource Administrator is ‘Oracle in OraClient10g_home1’ and a ‘SQL Sever’ driver along with some MEARNT OEM drivers.
The tnsnames.ora has the information for the Oracle server and I can tnsping to it successfully.
Browsing round the web I have tried a couple of methods to connect:
*"Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle};Dbq=ABCD;Uid=LOGIN;Pwd=PASSWORD;"*
I get the error message:
'Provider is not specified and there is no designated default Provider.'
I understand that I don’t have the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver installed, not sure if we need it if we have the Oracle in OraClient10g_home1 driver and already have a connection set up. So I tried:

This leads me to believe that maybe I need to have the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle drivers installed on the server. Maybe I need to set my script differently and am totally doing it wrong. Any help please? If you think I need the driver could you please explain why and how it works so I can put forward for my arguement to install it on the server.

By the error message that you are receiving it sounds like the report was originally designed to use an ODBC or native connection. The JRC will automatically attempt to look for a JNDI name of the same data source when it encounters one of these types of data sources.If this is the case then you cannot use the viewer object to pass in the ConnectionInfos. Windows Azure Platform Management Portal to configure the SQL Database firewall: on the Firewall Rules tab of the SQL database server, add the IP address of your computer into the IP address range.
What's more,Windows Azure SQL Database does not support Windows Authentication. Please use SQL Server authentication in your connection string.

Shared Locked
exclusive lock
exclusive lock without cumulating
For tables to ovoid duplicate i,e example take standard table sbook,when bookings were done it must be protected from overflow i,e more than seatsmax so apply lock for that.

Connection to "Central" Services Registry from Visual composer not working

Hi Folks,
We are having issues connecting to the Services registry from the Visual Composer. The search on services in the services registry does not yield any results.

I resolve in two ways.
Configure the service registry in NWDS, there works fine, but i have problem with DC in VC in NWDS.
I use destination WSIL, with this destination i have found all the services

My ipad2 was working fine last night, but this morning is unable to connect to ANY wifi networks (though it can detect them). All typical solutions fail. What can i do?

While it can detect networks, it cannot connect to any (have tried at home and at work). I have tried: resetting router, resetting ipad, forgetting network, renewing lease on network, ensuring airplane mode is off, resetting network settings, turning wifi on/off. None of the typical solutions I can find online seem to work. HELP!

Can SQL Developer connect to ANY third party database

As of my investigations, SQL Developer can currently connect only to Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL and Access.
What about connecting to any database using JDBC? Is this possible / planned? I'm currently interested in PostgreSQL.

In the next release users will be able to connect to Sybase. We do have plans to extend to further third-party databases, but this is not scheduled for the short term.
