Can VOB files DiVX / Xvid run on FCP

Hi,
I am totally unaware of FCP. I want to ask that can FCP accept VOB and Xvid/DivX files for direct editing and direct export ?
Thanks

No. You'd have to transcode them to a format which is supported. All common acquisition formats are supported (i.e, DV, HDV, DVCPROHD, etc..) but delivery formats are not directly supported by any pro editing software I know of.

  • NO audio with VOB file

    Hi there
I’m pretty new to this whole thing so apologies for any naive comments, I have some work on DVD that I wish to convert in compressor but when I drag the VOB files into compressor they do not register any audio. I am a student and not an editor and only have limited access to the software at university where the technician there has no clue about anything. By searching this forum I found one similar post that mentioned de muxing but I have no idea what that is or how to go about it.
Any help anyone can spare would be greatly appreciated
    Thank you

a VOB file contains audio & video streams mixed (muxed) and then chopped into 1024mb segments.
If you want to change elements in that file, you need to transcode the VOB file into a format that FCP can edit. Two programs, MPEG Streamclip or DVDxDV will work. They will convert non-copywrited (unprotected) VOB files into editable Quicktime files.
If you have no ability to add programs to the computer (administrative privileges on your account), the tech will have to install the program. MPEG Streamclip is free, DVDxDV costs $25US.
    good luck.

btw - This subject comes up A LOT. Search for DVD demux MPEG Streamclip and or DVDxDV and you should come up with a bit more information.

  • How can I import and edit Divx/Xvid codec .avi files?

Recently I changed of computer, I had Premiere CS3 in Windows and now I have CS4 in Mac. The problem is that in windows I could edit divx and xvid files, but now, when I try to import any divx/xvid file premiere has an error saying "UNSOPPORTED  COMPRESSION IN FILE".
I have installed divx and xvid codecs on the Mac and I can watch those videos too, but Premiere doesn't accept them.
    Any idea? Thanks

    Mike,
You might want to take a look at the file closely, and then decide if you wish to edit it. Know, that if you go to DVD, or any compressed format/CODEC, after the edit, there will be another quality hit.
There are CODEC's that are basically used to play a file, and then those that play, plus allow editing. DivX and Xvid, are in the former group. There could be some editors that will edit DivX, but I do not know of them. PrPro cannot effectively use the DivX CODEC to edit. Some have gotten very lucky, once the CODEC is installed, but usually one looses either the Video, or the Audio. In the cases, where it worked, OOS issues were almost always present.
    Good luck,

  • DDTS-100 and Divx/Xvid files

Does the DDTS-100 have problems with DivX/Xvid files that are encoded with AC3?
Power DVD will pick up a true DD signal for a DVD, but if i convert to avi (divx) with the ac3 sound, it only uses Pro Logic II/Neo6. There isn't even the option in Power DVD to use spdif when playing an ac3 divx file.
Who here has the DDTS-100 and can play AC3 divx files fine with TRUE DOLBY DIGITAL?
    Cheers.

Well this went down like a lead balloon.
If anyone else finds this, a solution is to convert the divx file to dvd vob files. The DDTS-100 will pick up the true digital signal if they are vob files, converted from divx with AC3 sound.
I use 'VSO divxtodvd', you can google a link.

  • Convert vob files for use in FCP X

I need to convert VOB files for use in FCP X on my macbookpro in OS X Lion (10.7.5) I use Clipwrap to convert other formats, but it does not seem to accept VOB for conversion (or if it does, I have not figured out how). In searching the web, I've come across several products that tout themselves as the best, fastest, easiest VOB to Prores converters etc., some that advertise as "free" when actually only a watermarked trial version is free. I have no idea of the actual quality of any of these (some examples are Brorsoft video converter for Mac, and Acrok HD Video Converter...), and would like some input from folks w/ experience in these things before dropping $ on the problem.
In another thread on this site I read something about MPEG Streamclip, & something about needing to separately download an MPG2 converter for it w/ Lion or Mountain Lion - the process sounded confusing and I couldn't tell if it applied to my situation or not...
Thanks in advance for any light anyone can shed.

MpegStremclip is THE Swiss Army Knife, when it comes to conversion, a 100% reliable, it IS absolutely free (any download a dollar = Stefano would be a millionaire!), I dare to say it is THE most recommended 3d party tool in the editor community ....
How & why you need to install the mp2 plug-in does Signore Cinque explain in simple words on his website:

  • Can't link to .vob files I've already imported... (CS4.2)

    I do have CS4.2 installed.
I recently had to reinstall Windows7 (changed versions), so I also had to reinstall CS4
Anyhow, I had created a project and imported some .vob files into it, edited, etc. BUT now when I go back to that project, Premiere tells me that the files are an unsupported format?!
Can someone help me figure out what might have happened? Or what I can do instead so I don't have to re-edit the whole thing?
    Thanks all,
    Aza

    Aza,
Sounds like your full-paid version of PrPro has reverted to the trial. This happens too often.
As a test, grab either an MPEG AV file, or even an MP3, and try to Import that. Same issue?
If so, you will want to look to see if you can Deactivate your copy, but feel that it will be grayed out.
Then, uninstall PrPro, and then run Adobe Clean Script CS4 several times, rebooting between each. Then, reinstall PrPro, and update to CS4.2, before you do anything else.
Things should be back to normal. As I say, this has happened too often, but there has been no definitive cause.
    Good luck,

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
With that information we can give you the specifics of the how to. There are marked changes in the Premiere Elements 11 and 12 workspaces as compared to version of Premiere Elements earlier than 11.
    Also, what do mean by
    vob-file (old Video format)
Do you mean that you have a VTS_01_1.VOB file that you ripped from a DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc and saved to your computer hard drive?

  • CONVERTING and IMPORTING .VOB files into FCP?

    Hi.
I made a dvd of an old vhs tape of mine using a Sony consumer vhs-->dvd component.
Haven't had any trouble in the past using MPEG streamclip to convert .vob files and import into fcp (from dvd's NOT made on this particular machine) --but for some reason, this dvd doesn't seem to contain those files.
The icon of the dvd appears as a folder on my desktop with a small red circle on it.
The dvd plays fine on my G5, but the folder appears to be empty when opened.
    I'm stumped.
    Anyone?

Buy or hire one of these: http://www.grassvalley.com/products/advcprofessionalfamily then you can capture the tape directly into FCP as a QuickTime .mov that uses the DV codec.
Don't forget to switch the *Device Control* setting in Log & Capture to *Non-Controllable Device* first.

hi, im tinkering with mpeg streamclip and its giving me problems because it won't open my ripped dvd files from my desktop. It keeps giving me the same message "no VOB files can be found". Can anyone help me, this doesn't make sense. I also found online that you need Apple Mpeg-2 playback component in order to use mpeg streamclip. Even though I have OS X Lion, should I download the add-on?

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Any software that can edit just a few frames of a VOB file

I burned a DVD for a customer a few years ago, and now he came back to me and asked if I could change a few seconds at the end. It seems his company changed to a new phone system and he has a new extension. It is just simple text over the ending music that gives his contact information.
Unfortunately part of the video was the customer's own footage shot with a Hi8 camera, and I had to do a "capture now" in FCP, so it would be quite a bit of extra work to re-import the entire FCP project and spit it out into another DVD. I think it would be prohibitively expensive for this customer, and I don't want to donate that much time for a customer, although I will if I have to.
For just this small change, is there anything I can do?
I know I can bring the whole VOB file into FCP and edit it there, but I don't want to lose any quality to recompressing it.
If I could even hack into the VOB file with some kind of graphic editor or Quicktime Pro or something and then use diskutility to re-burn the DVD from the altered VOB file, that would work, but I can't find anything that will recognize the VOB file.
    Thanks in advance!

As above, once you have got your complete (mpeg2) video and audio tracks out of your original DVD, you can put these straight onto the timeline in DVD SP, and use it as your 'editor'. Leave the sound as is. Set an end time for the video track. Then add in a re-done closing board at the end of the vision track for the new 'phone number.

I want to save the position , date and time of the stage with respect to zero.I want all these in one file, nd everytime I run it it should save to the same file, like this:

    Hi,
I know the function "write to spreadsheet file.vi"

  • How can I do to acquire and save date in the same time and in the same file when I run continual my VI without interruption.

I've attached a VI that I am using to acquire amplitude from Spectrum analyzerse. I tried to connect amplitude ouput to the VI Write Characters To File.vi and Write to Spreadsheet File.vi. Unfortunately when I run continual this VI without interruption, labview ask me many time to enter a new file name to save a new value.
So, How can I do to aquire and save date in the same time and in the same file when I run continual my VI for example during 10 min.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Your VI does work perfectly. Unfortunately this not what I want to do. I've made error in my last comment. I am so sorry for this.
So I explain to you again what I want to do exactly. I want to acquire amplitude along road by my vehicle. I want to use wheel signal coming from vehicle to measure distance along road. Then I acquire 1 amplitude each 60 inches from spectrum analyzer.
I acquire from PC parallel port a coded wheel signal coming from vehicle (each period of the signal corresponds to 12 Inches). Figure attached shows the numeric signal coming from vehicle, and the corresponding values “120” and “88” that I can read from In Port vi.
So I want to acquire 1 time amplitude from spectrum analyser each 5
period of the signal that I am acquiring from parallel port.
So fist I have to find how can I count the number of period from reading the values “120” and “88” that I am acquiring from In Port (I don’t know the way to count a number of period from reading values “120” and “88”).
    Here is a new algorithm.
    1) i=0 (counter: number of period)
    2) I read value from In Port
    3) If I acquire a period
    i= i+1 (another period)
    4) If i is multiple of 5 (If I read 5 period)
acquire 1 time amplitude and write to the same
file this amplitude and the corresponding distance
Distance = 12*i). Remember each period of signal
Corresponds to 12 Inches).i has to take these
    values: 5,10,15,20,25,35,40,45,50,55,60............
    5) Back to 2 if not stop.
Thank you very much for helping me.

  • How can I convert a home movie on dvd(vob file) to edit on imovie?

I had home movies converted to a dvd- the files are vob. Now I want to edit the movies in imovie.
I am having a difficult time converting from vob straight to mov files.
I purchased Quick Time Pro thinking that could do it, but I haven't been able to.
Also, it just says QuickTime Player Version 7.6.4 (518.35) on my computer.
Is it supposed to say QuickTIme Pro?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

The "Pro" option just unlocks a lot of features in QuickTime Player. If you look at the registration info, it will show if you have Pro installed.
For converting DVD's you have two options; hardware or software.
The hardware option involves connecting a DVD player's analog outputs to a qualified "DV device" (DV camcorder, VTR or converter) then connecting the DV device's Firewire port to your Mac to capture the footage.
The software option involves using an application like DVDxDV or MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD's VOB files into an editable format that works natively with your chosen NLE.

  • Can you open a file in PS & run a script from LR?

So one of my commercial clients wants their product files in a variety of formats, including PNG with transparency. I'd love to be able to provide them with this from LR, but you can't export as a PNG. So I've written a script which takes the active document in PS, turns off the relevant layers, converts to sRGB, and saves as a PNG. Is there any way for me to invoke this script from LR, as I am opening the document? Ideally, I'd like to include it in the "Edit in" menu, as a menu item which would invoke PS and run the script. That way I could simply select the images, and get them processing while I do something else. Or do I have to open all the files and then run the script on all the open files?

    99jon (à Johannes de Vilder) il y a 2 mois
Images are automatically saved back to the LR library but you need to follow a logical sequence for LR to render the export copy. You need to start the round trip from LR as follows and use the save command (Ctrl+S) not save as:
    1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings (I choose PSD but tiff is also available in the prefs)
    2) Edit in Photoshop; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
    3) Ctrl+W to close in Photoshop and update Lightroom thumbnail. The saved copy is usually stacked next to the original so don't worry about XMP.
    On Mac OSX Cmd+E; Cmd+S; Cmd+W
