Can voice over read pdf documents in OS X Yosemite?

OS X Mavericks: Hear your Mac speak text
It would depend on the PDF, also. Some PDFs are just images of text. They don't have any actual text in them.

  • Can Voice over read text?

I have tried everything I know. I read all the comments here, I searched, I googled ,
How do you basically get this utility to work.
I found it in the Utilities folder. Its here. I dragged the voiceover icon onto the desktop.
I followed the suggestions in the help menu.
I highlighted the text I wanted read.
I made sure the cursor was at the beginning.
I used the short cut cmd. F5
Do I need to highlight the text I want read?
Do I need to select the text?
    Nothing seems to be working.
I just want to know the basics

    Hello moh2o!
VoiceOver is not a simple utility for reading text, though it does this extremely well. It is a full spoken interface for OS X, and enables blind users to use the Mac with keyboard commands only.
To learn to use it, leaving the VoiceOver utility where it is, as Tom suggested, simply activate VoiceOver using the command-F5 keystroke, then press Ctrl-Option-Command-F8. You will hear a tutorial which gives you the basics of handling your Mac with VoiceOver.
On the other hand, if you simply want to hear your Mac read a block of text, then use the Start Speaking command as Tom suggested, or set up the Speak Selected Text command as follows:
Go to System Preferences—>Speech. Click on the Text to Speech tab. Choose the System Voice you want, then check the Speak selected text checkbox. Use the Set Key… button to choose a keyboard shortcut to suit yourself, then quit. Subsequently, you can highlight a block of text, then press the shortcut and listen. Stop the output simply by repeating the same keystroke.

  • Can't open a pdf document over two or more junction points

    Hello,
if i open a pdf document that's stored in a directory and this directiry is accessable over two or mor junction points, it will be fail. The message say something abount access denied, but the security is set to full access. In other application (e.g. notepad.exe) i can access this document. Then i tested it with one junction point and it works.
So here is a szenario to test:
    1) Put a pdf document at C:\Folder1\PDF-Document.pdf
    2) I can access C:\Folder1\PDF-Document.pdf with Acrobat Reader
    3) Create a Junction Point from C:\Folder2 to C:\Folder1
    4) I can access C:\Folder2\PDF-Document.pdf with Acrobat Reader
    5) Create a Junction Point from C:\Folder3 to C:\Folder2
    6) I can't access C:\Folder3\PDF-Document.pdf with Acrobat Reader !!!
I can normaly access the file at C:\Folder3\PDF-Document.pdf but not with Acrobat Reader! In Notepad i can open the pdf document.
I tested the lasted version 11.0.1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 (Service Pack 1) with all normally available patches.
What's wrong? The original structure with the junction points are greater than the example above. But i've reduced it to this simple example.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks und Greetings
    Martin

It's possible it's a bug, or it may be a limitation in the software if it's a specialized kind of PDF that Reader for iOS doesn't support.
In any case, posting a link to the file would provide the engineers with some information to help fix the problem.
Keep in mind that the software for mobile devices has been in development a much shorter time than software for computers (Reader for Windows or Macintosh).

How can I download a .pdf document from a web link without Adobe Reader starting automatically and preempting the download?

That depends on your operating system and browser.  On Windows, e.g. using Firefox, you right-click on the link, then select 'Save link as...'.

I can't open any pdf documents with Adobe Reader XI...get an error that "Adobe has stopped working" then it closes.  Is this an Adobe issue, Microsoft issue, or security issue?

Thank you!  That seemed to do the trick.  Don't think I'd ever have figured that one out!!

  • Which API can use to save PDF document with Adobe Reader 9?

    Hello,
which API can use to save PDF document with Adobe Reader 9? It is said that "CosDocSaveWithParams" can't be used.
    thanks!
    jimmy

Unless the PDF file is "READER ENABLED for SAVE" (see the adobe product pages on LiveCycle Reader extensions server)
You are not able to call a Save at all, if the document is reader enabled then you need to use the JavaScript call to save the document,
As you appear to be wanting to do this in a plug-in you would need to call the script from a plug-in, this can be done using the AFExecuteThisScript () function call.
Please note that this does will fail if the document is not reader enabled for save and you need to include the Forms HFT in your plug-in,
This plug-in would also have to be approved by Adobe to be used with the reader and as you are implementing a function that is available in the full Acrobat product this may not be a straight forward approval.

  • How can I read pdf documents from SD card

Is it (or will it be) possible to read pdf documents from SD card in Windows Phone 8?
    Thanks

Yes, it is possible. You can create even a folder on SD card and put in it the pdf's. It is working on my lumia 620 with Adobe reader 10.3 version.. You insert the SD in the phone, connect the phone to the computer and you will see the phone and the SD under it.
You drag your pdf's on the SD card. when you open the Adobe reader on the phone you go to the documents and here they are (with a small card icon near the document which shows you that the file is on the SD card.

  • I can't affix my valid digital signature to adobe reader pdf document?

I can't affix my valid digital signature to adobe reader pdf document. When the signature field is clicked, it is not showing my digital ID so that I can sign with it. Why it is not displaying my valid digital ID?

What is your operating system?  What is your Reader version?  What means "can not"?
Can you post a screenshot of such a message "to buy Adobe XI"?

  • Develop a program that can read pdf document in the UClinux OS?

    hello,
I'm a programmer in a company which is doing embed development ,i want to develop a program that can read pdf document in the UClinux OS?
Can some one give me some ideas?
can some body give me some information?
    My email is [email protected]
    thank you!!!

I would strongly recommend using one of the libraries that are available (Google). If you don't want to pay the (modest) costs of a commercial license, there are several open source projects with licenses that allow you to use them in commercial products.

Adobe Reader XI Pro does not recognize Samsung Multifunction Xpress M2875FD. I can not edit the PDF documents that I scan it. What do I do?

We need to find out what you actually have here. There is no Adobe Reader Pro. There is Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
With Acrobat Pro, you may be able to do some editing after running OCR. With Adobe Reader, you cannot edit.
    Which one do you have?

  • How to read pdf documents

As I am finding out after installing OS Lion, several applications don't work: Microsoft Office (2004) and Adobe Acrobat Reader. I have download Pages and Numbers so that problem is solved. What is the solution for reading PDF documents? Also for making changes to PDF documents?

In Mac OS X 10.6 PDF documents open up by default in Preview, I can't imagine it is any different in Lion.  If you have had Adobe Reader previously installed then this install may have been broken when Lion was installed (or is not compatible with Lion, very typical for Adobe to be behind with their development), so the default application for PDF files may have reverted to Adobe Reader 5 (which I seriously hope you do not still have installed).
You should be able to set the default application for PDF files to Preview (or what ever the equivalent is in Lion - Quickview?)
Personally I can't stand Adobe Reader, it's sluggish and buggy.
Unless you have the original documents that the PDFs were created from, you may require Adobe Acrobat Pro or similar piece of software in order to edit PDFs, I'm not aware that standard OS X applications can fully edit a PDF, though you may be able to paste snippets over the top of text and minor changes like that (then Print, Save to PDF, to generate a PDF from it again, although some PDFs may be locked and not allow this).

  • How can I print a PDF document?

How can I print a PDF document?

That states that the PDF touch app doesnt support printing which is a technically true as it doesnt have a button/option to print from the app but doing a crtl-p (this is on a full PC version of win8 not RT) brings up the print dialogue and its prints fine.

  • How can i convert a pdf document fully without problems

how can i convert a pdf document fully to word without receiving a error or changing all the structure of the page

    Thanks for your help

Reader cannot convert files to Word. There is an ExportPDF service with its own forum to help with issues to the service. However, converting files to Word is by its very nature an iffy proposition. How well it works depends upon the content of the file and how it was created.

What is your operating system?  What is your Adobe Reader version?  Only one document, or any?  Local or online documents?  If online, in what browser?
    Finally, what exactly means "can't"?
