Can Voicemail be disabled? (non-FiOS)

My mother-in-law just moved and we signed her up for the Freedom package (she previously had a normal calling plan, and AT&T long distance, she was probably one of the last people still paying for long distance calls, not to mention timed local calls from Queens to Westchester County and was paying a bundle). Anyway, she got voicemail with the package, but she already has an answering machine and trying to explain to her how to pick up the messages from VM is going to be impossible. Is there a way to disable the Verizon VM so it doesn't accept messages? Her phone service was out for a few days this week and she had 17 VM messages when I called to check the other day (which I guess is good but other than my calling, she'd never think to look). I actually need to call again to clear out the rest of the mailbox.
BTW, I should say that I've set the answering machine to pick up after 4 rings, so it will get messages before VM. However, she has call waiting, and if she does not pick up a call that comes in while she is on another call, it goes to VM, and she'd never bother to call in for the message. I'd just as soon not have it pick up in that case. Given that some of the messages that I just deleted were from when her phone line was not broken, I have a feeling that was the reason for some of them.

Hello Misterbill99,
The customer does not have the ability to turn on and off the voice mail randomly via the phone or web.  You can however have the Verizon voice mail removed from the line.  In the Freedom package it comes with the bundle and has no individual charge.  You can opt to use it or remove it.  Since you have messages in the voice mail still you will want to clear them all out before placing the order to disable the voice mail with the sales office.  Once the order is placed it will delete the mailbox and any messages that were left in it.
Thank you

  • Can I use a non-FiOS modem for secondary ethernet from FiOS coax

I intend to set up a home theater PC to connect to a TV located in a different room from the current FiOS modem/router (Actiontec MI424). I may use an HTPC 'extender' in the room with the TV, connected by HDMI.  However the Ceton Echo extender requires a direct ethernet connection, CAT5 I think.  What I'm considering in a few months, when my Verizon contract is up, is to drop all service except high speed internet from Verizon.  Then I could use the coax currently connected to the TV instead to connect to a modem or MoCA device which would output CAT5 ethernet to the HTPC extender.
I am not knowledgeable about ethernet and TV signals.  From what I can gather, a MoCA connection is preferable to a powerline network and maybe even better than running a long CAT5/CAT6 cable from room to room, which I don't want to do.  There is an Actiontec MoCA device available that claims to 'convert' from coax cable internet input to ethernet output.  Would this work to supply the Ceton extender using the FiOS coax that currently supplies TV signals to my Verizon set-top box?
Even more preferable to me, I currently have an unused Zoom cable modem/router that is Docsis 3.0 certified and which worked well for Charter internet supplied by coax.  It is less than 2 years old.  Could I simply use this Zoom modem with the second FiOS coax in the living room, instead of buying a new MoCA device?  That would mean I would be simultaneously using two coax-connected modems for ethernet: the Verizon-supplied Actiontec and my own Zoom modem/router.   If not, what is different about the MoCA device vs. what a cable modem does?
I think what I don't understand is whether there is a difference in the signal currently available from the coax supplying the TV: is it 'normal' cable TV/internet that the Zoom modem should be able to convert to ethernet, or not?  If this is possible, would I need to have Verizon do any configuring of it?  I did try to connect it myself and was unable to make an internet connection.  How do the providers control whether you receive through the coax ethernet-only or ethernet plus TV.  I get that the phone service is just a form of VOIP managed through the Verizon ONT in the basement.
    Solved!

MOCA frequencies are above those used for TV and can coexist on the same coax.  All you need at the TV is a 1x2 splitter rated 1Ghz or better.  One side goes to the TV.  The other wide goes to the MOCA adapter.

A cat5 connection is most preferable.  Second the MOCA.  Third is powerline networking.

There are a number of available MOCA adapters.
    What is a MOCA Bridge?

That Zoom cable modem won't work.  MOCA and DOCSIS are two completely different technologies.
BTW, the Actiontec is NOT considered a modem.

VZ can enable or disable any of three services provided by the ONT individually.

My iPhone 4S has stopped ringing altogether. Voicemail is disabled but if you call me, you'll hear it ringing at your end but it does nothing my end and freezes in the phone app if I make a call (doesn't ring or connect and doesn't freeze the phone, just the calling part). Texts are not being delivered or coming through delayed. Ringer is on, tone enabled - help!
I've disabled roaming so it only runs on wifi (this after getting a £4k phone bill...) and I can use Skype, Viber and WhatsApp with no problem at all.
Would really appreciate any help at all!
    Many thanks.

Hi there - am with Orange and they said nothing wrong with account and service running normally.  They said if they had cut me off I would've received a text (debatable with current message receiving situation!) and when I called out it would say 'calls from this number are barred'.  Also if you called me it would say something similar.  But it doesn't, it will ring and ring until it rings off but nothing happens at all on my handset. Not even a missed call notification.  If I call out, it will display that it is calling the number but that's it.  If I cancel the call it will constantly display 'ending call'.  If I come out of the phone and go to another app then revist phone it will start calling that last dialled number - without ever getting as far as ringing or connecting.

  • Can I create a non-Unicode database manually via create database segment

    Hi
As unicode encode use more bytes than 2-bytes encode (for instance, ZHS16GBK), and XE has the limit with 4GB totally. So, can I create a non-Unicode (for instance, ZHS16GBK) database manually via create database segment? or I just could use unicode?

  • Disable non-SSL session tracking?

    Hi, all,
I wonder if one can disable all session tracking in JSP's whenever SSL is not being used? I would like to turn off all cookie-setting and URL-rewriting and use SSL-session tracking only (if I use session-tracking at all on a given page). I also want to specify this behavior programmatically (inside my JSP's) and not in my server's config files.
I'm basically concerned that if my user leaves one of my HTTPS pages, they will still retain a non-secure cookie with their session information. This seems to be indeed the default behavior: when I run my tests and transition from an HTTPS page to an HTTP one, the browser does store a cookie. I know I can invalidate the session as the next step, but I'd rather have the cookie not being set altogether to begin with. Imagine the situation where the user leaves my HTTPS page for a totally different (HTTP) website: in this setting I won't get a chance to invalidate the session and delete the cookie.
Any ideas, therefore, on how to programmatically disable non-SSL session-tracking?
    Thanks,
    Dmitri.

I don't think you can do this programatically.
However I also don't think it is a problem.
Cookies are related to zone names aren't they?
http://mysite and https://mysite are two different
zones as far as cookies are concerned. One should
not be able to see the other.
It issues a new cookie for the http site you are just
navigating to. That cookie has nothing to do with
the secure site you just came from, and shouldn't be
able to tell them any info about the secure site.
I think you are worrying about something that isn't
    really there.
What is your concern? That they pick up a JSESSIONID
from the cookie and can then pretend to be a
different user?Yes. A cookie is transmitted and stored unencrypted, I imagine (in any case, it should be more easily crackable than SSL). I wish Sun came up with an extension to the Session API where you would be able to explicitly specify which session-tracking protocols you want used and which ones you don't. At the moment their API abstracts and manages too much detail for you.
I mean, if my site is supposed to be secure while I'm using SSL, then you'd expect that no information about those secure sessions should leak outside the SSL protocol, wouldn't you say?

  • Dsee 6.3.1 - disable non-secure port

I disabled access to the non-secure port on my ldapserver as I only want clients to talk to my server using ssl (tls:simple)
    root@ldapserver#/> dsconf set-server-prop ldap-port:disabled
After the compulsory restart, I was no longer able to bind a client (even if I tell it to connect on port 636) :
    root@ldapclient #/> ldapclient init -v -a profileName=SB -a domainName=unix.mydomain.com -a proxyDN=cn=proxyagent,ou=profile,dc=unix,dc=mydomain
    ,dc=com ldapserver.mydomain.com:636

    Arguments parsed:
    proxyDN: cn=proxyagent,ou=profile,dc=unix,dc=mydomain,dc=com
    profileName: SB
    defaultServerList: ldapserver.mydomain.com:636
    Handling init option
About to configure machine by downloading a profile

LDAP ERROR (85): Error occurred during receiving results. Timed out.
Failed to find defaultSearchBase for domain unix.mydomain.com
I know my certs are good as ldapsearch returns data as I would expect...
    root@ldapclient #/> ldapsearch -Z -p 636 -h ldapserver.mydomain.com -P /var/ldap -b dc=unix,dc=mydomain,dc=com uid=myuser
    returns my userid.
There is an anonymous read only ACI in place:
    root@ldapclient #/> ldapsearch -Z -p 636 -h ldapserver.mydomain.com -P /var/ldap -b dc=unix,dc=mydomain,dc=com -s base "(objectclass=*)" aci
    aci: (target ="ldap:///dc=unix,dc=mydomain,dc=com")(targetattr!="userPassword")(
version 3.0;acl "Anonymous read-search access";allow (read, search, compare)
    (userdn = "ldap:///anyone");)
As soon as I re-enable standard 389 access the client init works fine again....
    Am I missing something here?
Does the `ldapclient init` command need to make a 389 connection first before it downloads the profile which tells it to use tls:simple and therefore port 636 from then onwards?

    quote:
SSL enables support for the Start TLS extended operation that provides security on a regular LDAP connection. Clients can bind to the non-SSL port and then use the Transport Layer Security protocol to initiate an SSL connection. The Start TLS operation allows more flexibility for clients, and can help simplify port allocation.

  • After Cloning from RAC to non-RAC, how can convert PCP to Non PCP?

After Cloning 11i E-bussiness suit from RAC to non-RAC, how can convert PCP to Non PCP?

    Hi Hussein
Please clear me if am wrong.
1.Say my applications release is 11.5.10.2 with RAC and PCP enabled and cloning to multi node[Apps on one node and db on one side] and disable PCP
1.I wil clone my db to db node.
2.Copy the applications file system to target node and run adcfgclone and provide the values accordingly and it would complete successfully.
Now i have multi node target system.
    To disable PCP
1.do i need to disable :Change the site level system profile 'Concurrent:GSM_Enabled' to have a value of 'Y' and make it 'N'.[because GSM is enabled by default after 11.5.7 ]. If the profile option is SET Y will be get any errors while bringing up CM.
2.As per previous note you have given, APPLDCP is set to ON by default when GSM is enabled [Considering i m above the file version [afpcsq.lpc ] ]
and also is GSM neccessary for single node applications.
In this case will changing the profile value is enough to disable the PCP or do i need to change APPLDCP also.

Apologies if this was obvious for some people, but I have had some sort of issue with something every update since Snow Leopard.

  • How can I permanently disable the "fn" key?

Hi.  My subject says it all.  How can I permanently disable the "fn" key?
At first I thought I had a virus or something because when I typed only weird symbols came out.  Then I reset the computer.  Then I couldn't even log in.  I tried Time Machine etc.
Then I realized that the "fn" key wasn't working right.  It seems to be working backwards.  It acts like it's being pushed when it's not, and when I do push it it acts like it's not being used.
So it's kind of a simple problem but it's really annoying.
Is there a way I can just disable it permanently?  Even physical force if necessary.  I tried to break it but it wouldn't break.  I don't really use the key anyway so it doesn't really matter.  I don't want to pay a bunch of money to replace a key I don't even use.
    Thanks.  I hope someone knows.

That's the best answer.  Yeah usually if you press "fn" or "option" you can get it to work for awhile.
Yeah I have considered some kind of external keyboard also.  It will make a laptop less laptopish.  But it could do the job for awhile.
It's sad because I don't even care about the "fn" or "option" keys.
But anyway it's not catastrophic at least.
And yeah maybe we can get a new computer later or something.  I like mine though.  It's customized and is how I like it right now.
    Anyway thanks for the reply.
