Can we avoid Skydrive pro synchronization generate hugh traffic?

We are considering provide Skydrive Pro feature to our company users (1,000 internal users).  Do Microsoft provide any setting regarding the synchronization mechanism?
For instance, the 1000 users have setup sync to same document library. Someone add a new document to the library at mid-night. On the other morning when everyone come back to office, turn on his PC, will all 1000 PC starting download the new document
to their local folder at the same time? I am sure our network admin will not approval.
Is anyone come across this scenario? Do Microsoft provdie any workaround? (e.g. auto sync is forbidden, everyone have to trigger sync manually)
Thanks for any input!

Hi,
I complete agree with you. It is the notion that things are growing bigger in any sense and the way to handle it seems to be a marvel of different caching mechanisms.
Downloading the files locally, is kinda caching content. It will supply you with a copy to work on offline, which in sense perform better.
One thing that should be considered a must when implementing any form of caching solution is the ability to manage it. It seems however to be a general issue surrounding SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro atm.
After reading your question, I did find some other mentions regarding this matter. Mainly in relation to SharePoint Online, where people were hitting there quota really fast, due to SkyDrive Pro library synchronization. I recon this is considered a minor
issue, as you can just buy more traffic.. Yeah right!
There is some mention of Pausing the Synch, however I am unable to find any programmatically way of doing this. (Quick google search)

  • Skydrive and skydrive pro now same email and not working

    Hi,
I have tried posting this on a few of the forums and keep getting sent somewhere else.  Can anyone here help me?
For the last couple of weeks we have been setting up our new Office 365 during this time we have been using skydrive and skydrive pro without any problems.  Last Friday we set up our Outlook and change our login from onmicrosoft to our
actual emails eg *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.  We are now able to receive our emails and login without any problem.  However our SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro are not syncing with our computers.  If we open a file in our SkyDrive
PRO folder it will not save to our online file.  If we try to login it will go no further than the screen to accept our email login.  You hit NEXT and nothing happens or it says that it does not recognise that account.  If we log into the dashboard
we can view our skydrive pro but it is no longer able to sync with our computers.  Is it because we now have an email address doing both accounts?

You'd better post the question to Office 365 forum. I've found the thread with the similar topic on that forum:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/154/p/185309/547354.aspx
You can try to re-establish the connection between your SkyDrive Pro to your local copy. Please note that this action will create a completely new set of synced file locally and may take time to load
depending on the amount of files to be synced.
    1. Right click on the SkyDrive Pro icon from the taskbar > click
Stop syncing a folder > select the folder you are currently syncing on (or choose all), then click Stop Syncing.
    2. Open a web browser and navigate to the library you want to sync or go to your SkyDrive Pro tab from the blue menu, click the
Sync icon on the upper right corner of the page to start syncing the file. Then check if your files started to sync in your locally.
    Hope this helps.

  • Every time I sync my iCal computer with my iPhone 4 or iPad, duplicate entries are generated on both systems. What am I doing wrong or how can I avoid the duplications?

Every time I sync my iCal on my computer through iTunes with my iPhone 4 or iPad, duplicate entries are generated on both systems. What am I doing wrong or how can I avoid the duplications? I have been doing this for several years and this problem is a more recent issue, like in the last 6 months. I have been deleting the duplicate entries, on both systems, but some duplicates reappear through "general" entries that are connected to the correct color for a Calendar, but not the name. I am going nuts and wasting tons of hours trying to get the 3 calendars to sync without generating duplicate entries.

Choose one of the Calenders on ONE of the computers OR the MobileMe as the Master / correct account.
The REINITAILISE the data of MobileMe within preferences on the computer defining the datatransfer correctly (in the advanced box of preferences). The synchronise iphone contacts and calender directly on-line to MobileMe.
I posted a question on this today, and gave my own reply !

  • Can I sync SkyDrive on my PC with my MacBook Pro?

Trying to share documents between my PC's and my Macs using SkyDrive.  I can do it fine on my iPhone but not my MacBook Pro.  I can't find any way to get SkyDrive on my MacBook; it's not in the App Store.

    Go to…
    https://skydrive.live.com/
… login with your account details and you can download the SkyDrive application from there.

  • Alternate of Skydrive pro for offline capability in sharepoint 2013.

    Hi Everyone,
I have been working on offline solution for sharepoint 2013. The volume of data in sharepoint is huge(like 2 TB). Almost every user will have access to more than 25000 documents. Initially I picked Skydrive Pro client(which comes with office 2013) as a tool
but later got to know the limitations of it.
    As this link
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn232145.aspx#section3 says.
The SkyDrive Pro Windows Sync client limits the total number of items that you may synchronize with a document library. The following limits are the synchronization limits of the SkyDrive
    Pro Windows Sync client:
You can synchronize up to a maximum of 20,000 items in your SkyDrive Pro document library, which includes folders and files.
You can sync up to a maximum of 5,000 items in other document libraries, which includes folders and files.
In any library, you can download files up to a maximum file size of 2 GB.
     Note:
The above limits are not configurable.
Which is a major setback for me. I have tried to found one tool called colligo breifcase for windows http://www.colligo.com/colligo-briefcase-for-windows-feature-matrix/.
Is there any other 3rd party tool or code in codeplex to overcome these limitations?
    Thanks in advance.

  • SkyDrive Pro and SharePoint 2010

Why SkyDrive Pro can no longer sync SharePoint 2010 libraries? I was using Windows 8 with Office 2013 and SkyDrive Pro had no problems with synchronizing content from SharePoint 2010. Now I installed Windows 8.1 with Office 2013 and it doesn't work anymore.
Is there any way to fix it? My colleagues (with Windows 8 and Office 2013) still can synchronize content from SharePoint 2010.

Note that SkyDrive Pro does not support SharePoint 2010 so any issues you have with it won't be looked at by Microsoft.

  • Problems with Event Receiver and SkyDrive Pro Document library

I wrote an event Receiver that implements the ItemUpdated (but the Synchronous one) event. I basically modify docx files content. When the library has versioning enabled, I first move the SPFile to a hidden library that does not have versioning, I update
it, and then I move back to the original library to avoid creating a new version for this file.
This works fine in the standard case (e.g. standard Document Library), but for Document Libraries that belong to SkyDrive then when I upload files using the SkyDrive Pro utility (that is, the utility that synchronizes files from "C:\Users\Administrator\SkyDrive
Pro\Shared with Everyone" to the server) there in an error reported by the Upload Center since it seems that as the file content is modified in the server and is different than the local copy then it does not like this situation. If you open the file
using the Upload Center then word asks you to keep the version in the server, or the version that is local.
    Any way to bypass this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
From the description, the issue seems to be that the event receiver fires in the SkyDrive library, but the SkyDrive folder where you met the error message isn't synchronized to the server.
If so, this will be the default behavior, have you checked the workflow? You may consider copy the document to document library using workflow, update the document in the library using event receiver or workflow, then copy back to the SkyDrive
    library.
If it isn't the issue, please feel free to let me know.

  • Can I avoid setting up a DNS server?

    Dear all,
I’m a newbie to set up a server but I recently bought a Mac Mini Server and I have some questions in setting up the machine.
    My ultimate goal:
Set up a multimedia server in my Mac Mini Server which provide photos up / download and Quicktime video streaming services for my friends outside my local Lan.
    My settings:
ISP (Dynamic IP) →DSL modem →Linksys Router (DHCP) →
    1. Web Cam IP: 192.168.1.253 port 50000
    2. Synology NAS IP:192.168.1.107 port 5000
    3. Mac Mini Server IP: 192.168.1.108
    4. Mac Book Pro x 2(wireless)
Since I don’t have a static IP, I registered a domain name which link to my dynamic IP. i.e. abc.viewnetcam.com
I can access my web cam and Synology from outside through port forwarding i.e. http://abc.viewnetcam.com: 50000 & http://abc.viewnetcam.com: 5000
During set up my Mac Mini Server, I was required to enter the Primary Domain Name, since I did not have a DNS server in my local Lan, I entered MacMinSserver.private
After I set up the server, I found that there was a message left on the desktop saying that; ….The domain name servers you’re using don’t have an entry for the domain MacMiniServer.private, and therefore your clients won’t be able to access your server using the name MacMiniServer.private…..
    Now here is the question:
    1. Can I just simply avoid to set up a DNS server in my Mac Mini Server? Cause it is very complicate; I have read up some information about DNS server settings which make me feel puzzle.
    2. If DNS server is a must, so how can I set it? I have read the instructions in the HoffmanLabs, but after setting up the DNS server, how can I access my server from outside? Through port forward?
( Now I can access my server from outside in Safari with URL afp://abc.viewnetcam.com:548)
    Many thanks.

I take some time to digest your suggestions. I’m convinced to build up a DNS server, although I don’t fully understand how it works.
DNS is a way to ask a server or a series of servers to translate a string of a specific format into an IP address. If you follow the article in your implementation, then the local DNS services will cooperate with and access external DNS servers world-wide for public DNS translations.
But then questions come up again, first what should be my Primary Domain Name?
I don't know what you're looking at that is using "primary domain name", but the "domain name" you use? I use real and registered and public domains for the domain on private LANs. It's simple, effective, and unique. And I don't have to deal with collisions. I don't prefer to recommend using a made-up domain, as it's a few dollars to get a real domain and then you don't have to deal with collisions if and when you need to expose parts of your network.
Here, a bogus TLD would be, for instance, macminiserver.myhouse.ngmy69; that's a top-level domain (ngmy69) (TLD) that is not allocated, and unlikely to be publicly allocated, and a subdomain (myhouse) of your choice, and a host name (macminiserver) of your choice. (There are around 300 TLDs already allocated and live, and more are on the way. com, net, biz, org, travel, cat, two-character country codes, and more...)
This is listed in the article, including the trade-offs, and including a description of bogus domains.
As you said that the external DNS and the internal DNS should be separately functioning, then is it true that I have the freedom to choose my Primary DNS name? Or I have to stick to certain rules?
DNS and IP routing work by cooperation. You have to stick to certain rules, and the article guides you through the four general choices for picking a domain name.
In my case, do I need to use the external domain name, i.e. macminiserver.abc.viewnetcam.com or I rent another registered domain name and it will be macminiserver.xxxxx.com or even I create an imaginary name?
After you get your LAN DNS going, then read the [dynamic DNS article|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1541].
Here, you've picked a domain (viewnetcam.com) name that's real and registered. That, and the use of the abc and macminiserver subdomains are something you'd have to work out with the folks administering that domain. While it is technically a domain name, macminiserver.abc.viewnetcam.com is also variously called a host name, as that'll usually have an associated IP address, and a subdomain like abc.viewnetcam.com might and variously will not.
With a real and registered domain (your own registered domain, or a DynDNS host), you can (later) choose to expose parts of your network. You don't own a DynDNS name, and DynDNS doesn't allow you to use various server functions and you can't use that on your LAN. DynDNS is a good solution for remote access into a home network and even for a VPN connection in but (if you're eventually looking to use mail or secure web access or other features) you'll usually end up using your own domain name.
The second question is that, how can I avoid using the subnet 192.168.1.0/24, as my router is providing the DHCP service, will that means I need to re-organized the whole network included the web cam and my Synology? Is there any simple way to achieve that?
It's the effort you think it is, and it involves getting that gateway server reconfigured to have its address in a different subnet and the DHCP server reconfigured to pass out addresses within a range within that subnet, and this is an effort that scales as your network increases and as you get IP addresses embedded. If you're going to do remote access via VPN, many home networks and many coffee shops will use 192.168.0.0/24 or 192.168.1.0/24, and having the same subnet on both ends of the VPN means IP routing tosses a snit.
[Please read the DNS article|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1436] through, and then post up questions you might have.

  • On-premise SharePoint 2013 and SkyDrive Pro Sync Issue

    Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum between SharePoint and SkyDrive as the issue is related to an update on SkyDrive Pro.
premise SharePoint 2013 installation (migrated from 2010) and Office 2013 installed. SharePoint is patched up to the latest CU. Syncing documents from SharePoint worked fine until KB2817495 was installed. The syncing still seems to work but we cannot add
any new libraries, either directly from the browser using the "sync" button or adding the URL to "Sync a new library". I've tested it with an Office 365 account and the libraries add fine so I'm not sure whether it's a SkyDrive or SharePoint
issue. If I uninstall the update then I can successfully sync new libraries from our on-premise installation.
At this point the only solution I can see is to prevent that update from installing via WSUS.
    Kind regards,
    Rick

    Hi
    anuxps ,
Yammer already have Single Sign On with Office 365, but SharePoint Server for on-premise does not follow a 90-day release cycle and it won’t yet. Also we are looking for Yammer integration with on-premise
     soon. There are improvements coming.

  • I can edit on Premiere Pro 6 files, but after a dozen keystrokes, the space bar and cursor keys stop working while the save function works

I can edit on Premiere Pro 6 files, but after a dozen keystrokes, the space bar and cursor keys stop working while the save function, render workspace function, export file are still operational. How can I fix it so I may complete my assignment?
Besides DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Suite 6 is the only software on the machine. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Operating System on AMD FX 6100 six-Core Processor at 3.31gHz and 32 GB RAM memory. There are two SLI-bridged GTX680 NVidia cards.
The software was very stable for the last six months, working with 720P proxy files from 2.5K masters (Blackmagic Design Camera). I am working on a feature-length project that exceeds 1000 edits. I have broken the file into 2 one hour segments.
I have deactivated the software before reinstalling the entire OS from scratch. PP6 was very stable for 48 hours. Then the freezing space bar returns. After a dozen strokes into the project, same problem.  I have made cache files store next to originals, I have deleted preview files if they were corrupted and causing instability. Am I missing something?
I have Microsoft Security Essentials for virus protection. I double checked the memory for damage/defect. Nothing says that the motherboard or other components are damaged.
I am in film competition overseas and need to have deliverables in less than a month's time.  I lost the last two weeks troubleshooting and this crisis came at an inopportune moment of the project.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Still getting software freezes but found a way to mitigate for the mean time.
Upon launching Adobe Premiere Pro, hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to launch TaskManager as well.
You will want to highlight Adobe QT32 Server.exe
Right click and select "End Process Tree"
You will get considerable stability in the program, long enough to get timing of cuts done. Be sure to save often.
If the program freezes, do not hit Save. You definitely want to avoid saving the corruption into your TimeLine
CTRL-ALT-DEL to relaunch the TaskManager and highlight Adobe Premiere Pro.exe
    Right-click to "End Process"
No need to reboot the whole system; just launch Premiere Pro again and continue with the session. Note that your work reverted to Last Save.
Hope this helps until the bug is fixed.

  • How can I avoid (on a mac) getting called on Skype...

How can I avoid (on a mac) getting called on Skype when I'm not signed in?
    It's really annoying.
I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that way, but suddenly I get the skype-calling-sound, and I have to log into the skype app to abort the call. The persistent calling bastards kept on calling after I aborted the call and left the app, so I ended up muting my speakers for a while. It really shouldn't have to be this troublesome.

That's like asking how many cows can I get into a field.  It depends on the size of the field, size of the cows, the terrain of the field, etc.  We could use a bit more information on what you're trying to accommplish:
1 - where are the photos being downloaded from.
2 - how big are the photos?
3 - where are you going to put the photos, i.e. into folders, into an iPhoto library?
4 - how big is the hard drive in the Mac Pro and how much free space do you have on it?
    etc., etc, etc......

  • Login ID best practice. Windows 8, Office 365 with SkyDrive and SkyDrive PRO

I have had many confusing issues with multiple and conflicting ID's. I have just spent 3 hours online with MS technical support to discover that a document can be edited in Word and saved to Sharepoint365 but if it is synched with the
desktop and that one is edited then the local signon sets the wrong permissions and the upload centre fails.
I have two MSOL Office/365 accounts, both Enterprise level with SkyDrive Pro.
I have two Live accounts, both with SkyDrive.
I am using Windows 8 so need to signon with a live ID or local and non-linked account.
    Assuming I configured;
    1. W8 user account with Live ID AAA and only used MSOL/365 Account BBB in a session.
    2. W8 user account with Live ID ZZZ and only used MSOL/365 Account XXX in a session.
    Would that be okay?
    1. Should I be able  to access AAA Skydrive and BBB SkyDrive Pro in the same session?
    2. If I synch SharePoint folders from a BBB session should I be able to edit them directly in word, with user account BBB active and be able to save okay?
    Cheers, Richard
    RC

In Windows Live you could create alias account which means you have one Windows Live Account but login with multiple email. You create one account and then link Office365 account as alias to it. You could have one Windows 8 account and different Office365
    account too.
You could also configure your Office365 account to use your Windows Live Id and login with that account.

  • SkyDrive Pro - Renaming folders and sync locations

I'm trying to understand the SkyDrive Pro feature. Of course it ain't really SkyDrive as all references point to the old Groove application. I like how Groove moved from Groove --> SharePoint Workspace --> SkyDrive Pro..
I can change the Sync location via the UI like explained here:
Change the location where you sync SharePoint libraries on your computer
This doesn't help if I want to rename the sync folder of document libraries on my local drive.
There's two problems I have with the local folders:
The sync folder name is trimmed to 35 characters. That makes it hard to distinguish different document libraries from the same site if the site name is long. I currently have a set of folders named like so: "<long sitename> ... - Doc" and
"<long sitename> ... - Pro". These libraries are actually called "Documents and "Protocols".
Different O365 Tenants create different root folders.
I m now wondering about problem one. I have found the Access (!) Sync DB under C:\Users\gaida\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\OfficeFileCache\CentralTable.accdb (no google results yet on the architecture). In that Sync DB I found all local locations
under the SubCache table as well as the OutgoingEvents. Changing the local locations there doesn't work - SkyDrive Pro forgets about the folders right away and I have to re-synch them. That means those locations are not the right way to change stuff.
Has anyone any more insight information on how SkyDrive Pro works? I also found the secret Telespaces path with the *.xss files - these also look promising, are not editable with a text editor though.
Basically my question is how SkyDrive Pro works and how I can rename the local sync folders.

  • Web Galleries. Can be avoid "download"?

For us, professionals, web galleries in AP2 could be a help, but I don´t give images, I sell them, so I would like to know if it can be avoided the option "download" when a web gallery is created.
    Regards.
    Guillermo

You just un-check the option "allow downloading of:". Aperture will just generate very small JPEG versions of your images and upload them to your .mac account. These small JPEGs will not contain any metadata and be limited to approx. 800 pixels. However, these small JPEGs can still be downloaded by anyone visiting your web album.
You may want to put a large "Copyright" right onto the image using Photoshop.
For commercial use you may want to consider using another web album service and using one of the several export plug-ins available from the download section of the Apple website.
