Can We block a MIDI Input in Garageband

Hello All
I have two MIDI Keyboards going into my G5.
I only want Garageband to "SEE" only one of them.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

Sorry, GB can't do that. Midi tracks listen to all the midi signals that are coming in on all channels.

  • Selecting one of multiple midi inputs in Garageband

    Hi,
I've connected an M-Audio Midisport 4X4 to my powerbook G4 and am trying to control the synths in Reason Adapted at the same time as a synth in Garageband, in order to play them together.
Does anyone know how to select the midi input in Garageband? At the moment it only acknowledges that there are 4 inputs and all controllers set off the synths...Reason is fine, you can select which midi input you want...I have Garageband 2...does version 3 have this option or have I overlooked something in 2?
    Thanks for your help,
    Alex Taylor

  • Can I control external midi devices with Garageband?

    hello
I would like to control my external effects unit ,a vox tonelab.
I want to be able to change patches at certain points in a track whilst recording .
Can I do this using midi ? if so how ?
    regards
    Paul

What I know this isn't implemented in GarageBand. To work with midi and synthesizer's you have to by Logic or other similar products. Hope they will make full midi aviable on next version of GarageBand. Midi In will work efficiently and smooth. I have try with my old Casio VZ-11.

  • Can't import midi files in garageband 11 after lion install?

I can't import or open midi files in garageband 11 ,tried reinstalling from my app dvd, will not allow, it is grayed out was using snow leopard and updated
to lion and thats when it quit also my quicktime pro 7 will no longer export midi.

Same here. Now that I think of it, I recently put in Logic Studio 8 and Garageband didn't open on it's own anymore. That was iLife'06. I then up-graded to iLife '08 and Garageband still doesn't open to a new project. The only way I can still open Garageband is to make a "template" out of one of their demos, then when that opens I strip the tracks out and start with new ones. By the way, I just tried to install XLN Audio's Addictive Drums. They work in Logic Studio, but do not open at all in Garageband. Error message says the plug-in is not "valid". So much for Garageband being easier than Logic.

  • Has anyone used reMIDI as a plug-in for GarageBand. I downloaded a trial version of reMIDI, which enables MIDI instruments to be strummed or arpegiated, but can't get it to work in Garageband.  How do I set it up?

Has anyone used reMIDI as a plug-in for Garageband ('08)? The program allows MIDI instruments to be strummed or arpegiated. I have a trial version, but can't get it to work in Garageband. Wonder how to set it up.
    Thanks, Doctor Mark

Port Forwarding.....or Port Mapping....as Apple calls it is a difficult and complex configuration method for most users. Because there are so many variables involved in this type of setup, it is not possible to provide a step by step guide that will work for everyone with all devices.
It is possible that a setup guide exists for the the WD drive and AirPort Extreme, but you will have to go looking for it on the Internet. Even if you find one, it may not be tailored to your specific situation or needs.
Sometimes, you can do everything right....at least according to someone's article or "how to" guide, and things still will not work correctly.
In situations like this, when you really don't know what to do, you need to enlist the aid of an IT pro, who will know what to do based on your particular products and unique circumstances. Sometimes....they won't be able to get things working either due to particular circumstances.
But, before you do this, I would strongly recommend that you use a Static IP address for your Internet connection with your ISP. If you do not have this now, contact them to ask them if they offer this type of connection. Expect to pay more for this type of service, of course.

  • Can you use specific Core MIDI inputs in LE7?

In various other MIDI applications on OS X, you can see a list of the current Core MIDI inputs and outputs, usually for the purpose of telling the application which input(s) and output(s) to use. For instance you might want to use something like MidiPipe to modify MIDI messages in the chain before a software instrument like DrumKitFromHell or VSamp. To do this you can set MidiPipe to use the input from the MIDI controller and then set, say, VSamp to use the output from MidiPipe as its input.
Is there any way to do this with LE7? I want the MIDI path to be:
    1. My MIDI controller
    2. MidiPipe
    3. LE7
There seems to be no way in LE7 for me to say: Use MidiPipe as the MIDI input. LE7 just seems to take over the physical MIDI input, bypassing Core MIDI altogether.
Does anyone know any way to tell LE7 to use a specific Core MIDI input?
    Thanks!

If it supports the Makie protocol, it might work... but I wouldn't purchase one on that basis without trying it first.

  • Concerning midi data in GarageBand for iOS: can we copy midi data from one virtual instrument to another?

Concerning midi data in GarageBand for iOS: can we copy midi data from one virtual instrument to another?
For instance: I play my "lucky take" on the virtual piano, and now I am curious how it would sound on let's say a organ. Normally I would select the midi content out of the piano track and copy it into the organ track. I cannot figure out how to do this in GarageBand for iOS. Is there anyone out there with a solution?
    Thanks!

It is limited, how you can move regions between tracks. Basically, you can move between tracks with the same touch instrument.  See the help: http://help.apple.com/garageband/ipad/2.0/index.html#chsec12c15d
    Move a region
Drag the region left or right to move it forward or back in time. Align the left edge of the region with the bar or beat on the ruler where you want it to start playing.
Drag the region up or down to move it to another track with the same Touch Instrument. You can also drag regions between Keyboard and Sampler tracks, and between Audio Recorder and Guitar Amp tracks. Smart Drums regions cannot be dragged to another Smart Drums track.
If you move a region so that it overlaps another region, the overlapped part of the “covered” region is deleted.
    Paste a region
You can paste a region you have copied, or paste an audio file from an app that supports copying audio to the clipboard. GarageBand supports 44.1 kHz sample rate, 16-bit depth uncompressed audio files.
You can paste copied regions to another track with the same Touch Instrument. You can also paste regions between Keyboard and Sampler tracks, and between Audio Recorder and Guitar Amp tracks. Smart Drums regions cannot be pasted to another Smart Drums track. Audio files copied from another app can be pasted to Audio Recorder or Guitar Amp tracks.
Move the playhead to the point where you want the region to start.
Tap the header of the track where you want to paste the region to select the track.
Tap the track where you want to paste the region, then tap Paste. You can also tap an empty area of Tracks view, then tap Paste. In this case the region is pasted into the currently selected track.

  • Can't hear MIDI keyboard thru GarageBand (or anywhere else)

I have a year-old MacBook running Leopard, and a Midiman (now mAudio?)49 Keystation USB controller (keyboard). The MIDI setup utility recognizes one MIDI input, but I can't hear the keyboard in Garage Band 3 or any other app I use (Songworks II). I've tried different input settings in Garage Band preferences, System Preferences and in the Audio MIDI setup utility, to no avail. The same keyboard works fine on my iMac G4, running the same software. As I said, the keyboard is USB powered. Is it possible that the MacBook doesn't produce enough power to run it? I have some serious projects to do and would be grateful for help. Maybe I need a newer keyboard? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. Turned out I needed new drivers.

  • Installation folder not found.  Kontaktplayer2 will terminate?  I can't play any of my midi sounds from Garageband.

Kontaktplayer2 will terminate?  I can't play any of my midi sounds from Garageband what gives?  I downloaded all my midi plugin's to run my M-Audio midi controller, but the patches are gone from GarageBand.  I recently had all my files "Migrated" from my old Macbook to my new one and since I have my new Macbook (only a week old) I haven't been able to use the GarageBand patches.  Can anyone give me advice?

If you did a Restore operation using the current version of iPod Updater and you still get the same results, then you should take it back and get a new one.

  • How do I select a midi input device and record midi?

I have several midi input devices connected to my computer. I use them regularly with Digital Performer. I am trying to record a single midi track in Garage Band using an Oxygen 8 keyboard. In the preferences GB says that it sees 7 midi devices. How do I route midi with Garage Band and how do I tell Garage band which midi device to record from? When I create a midi track (well...I think that it is a midi track) and I try to record I do not see any midi notes being recorded.
Searching the help file for midi provided surprisingly little information. I am sure that this is simple stuff...perhaps so simple that I am missing something obvious.

Yes, if the controller sends the right MIDI messages
What do you mean by "the right midi messages"?
I have a virtual instrument (with for example) a delay effect knob. I would like to turn a knob on my midi controller and adjust the delay in the virtual instrument (as I can in just about any other sequencer). Can GarageBand do this, if so, how?

  • How do I monitor and record a MIDI instrument on Garageband?

I may be missing something simple in Garageband setup. I want to monitor and record a drumkit via its MIDI output. It is a Yamaha DTXplorer so I have Subtlesoft Midipipe installed and a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB converter. Microphones and guitars are being monitored and recorded with without problem. When I connect the Focusrite to my Macbook air and drumkit the MIDI indicators are blank, no MIDI input detected by Garageband. Then I close GB and launch Midipipe, the MIDI input detected light on the Focusrite illuminates and GB detects one MIDI input (Saffire 6) in preferences window. But if I select new track/software instrument Saffire 6 input is grayed out and so cannot be selected (if I select the mic or guitar sources it is bold and can be selected). If I go ahead and create the software instrument there is no monitor button and nothing is heard or recorded.

What is the best way to uninstall and reinstall the Focusrite MIDI interface driver. And to uninstall and reinstall the Subtlesoft Midipipe (which is required to get the correct mapping for a Yamaha drumkit)? This was done for me at the Apple Store One On One session in a prior attempt to fix this problem but obviously it did not work. I'd like to try it one more time with the drumkit connected. I did see a screen at one point which allowed me to select the inputs from the Focusrite but I could never find it again. I don't think it was a Garageband menu but somewhere else, maybe during the driver or software install for the Focusrite. I would love to get back to that screen again and take a hard look at it.

  • Midi input is not working (..correctly)

Midi input is shown, and all is working.
But.. after some hits on my midi drums (guitar hero drumkit with wireless usb adapter and miditar hero software running)
the sound in garage band stops until i choose another instrument . Input light is still flashing when i hit the drums .
when i choose another instrument (sound) then it works , but not for long ... i always have to choose another instrument to keep it running.
    What can i do?
When i play the sound with the keyboard of the macbook , the sound wont stop.

external hardware - USB - Wireless - Adapter - external software.
You have pretty much everything in your setup that could go wrong.
My guess that in any of the components before GarageBand something goes wrong, looses the connection/transission.
I would use a replace GarageBand in the setup with MIDI Monitor, to "see: how the MIDI signallooks like from your source. MIDI Monitor is a little utility (or use any other utlitlity) that displays MIDI messages. There you could see if your source is stopping the MIDI signal. If that is the case, then GarageBand is of the hook.
    Hope that helps

  • Problem with midi input in Mainstage

    Hi all,
I have a keyboard connected to my mac via USB midi interface.
When I'm trying to play midi instruments in Garage Band - it works very well, no significant latency and no other problems.
But in Mainstage the situation with the midi input is different. When I press a key on my keyboard, it plays the sound, then stops responding to other midi commands for about 2-3 seconds. And then after I press another key, it plays it, and stops responding again.
The "CPU" and "Memory" indicators at the top show a low load.
All in all, it's just impossible to play a midi instrument in Mainstage.
As the midi interface is working correctly in GarageBand and doesn't work well in Mainstage, I suspect that it's a Mainstage's software problem. But I haven't found anything like that on the Internet. Any ideas?
Devices: Macbook Pro 13" (2011), M-Audio MidiSport Uno...
    Thanks!

I can input Chinese in Firefox, but there are
problems with the display of characters in input
    fields for searches, etc.
Can you provide a specific example of a particular search box (url) and exactly what the "problem" is (TC or SC, characters involved, etc)? I would like to try and duplicate it. Perhaps the encoding in View > Text Encoding needs to be adjusted for that page for some reason (though normally that should affect all browsers).
Since Apple has nothing to do with FireFox, you might want to report the issue to the people responsible for that program (mozilla.org I think), since it may be a bug they can fix.

  • Audio Input in Garageband

I have a problem choosing audio input for Garageband. I am a real novice and all I am trying to do is dump an audio tape of a song onto Garageband so I can work with it. I am running my Sony TC-D5M field recorder through a M-Audio Fast Track guitar-mic interface, which is connected to my iBook via USB.
When I go to System Preferences and choose Sound Input, I get a choice between my internal mic on my iBook and the USB input. But no matter how I click and choose, I can't get the USB input to register in Garageband. All I get is the internal mic.
Even though I turn the volume all the way down on the internal mic, I still get input from it. And although the input from the USB registers in the Sound Preferences pane,
Is there a way to mute or disable the internal mike?
Is there any other way (apart from Sound Preferences) to choose input in Garage Band? Anybody else have this problem?

    Gil,
Check in Audio Midi Setup to make sure the USB interface is configured for 44.1 khz, 16 bit. That is the only configuration supported by GarageBand.

  • Record midi input

I have the Line 6 midi interface for the ipad and am trying to figure out how to record from an external keyboard into garageband.  Any ideas?  Any help you can give?  Please?
The keyboard is actually a yamaha disklavier grand piano and I want to record tracks to mix with my guitar and can't figure out how to record the piano (not really interested in the open microphone as it picks up so much ambient noise).
    Thank you

You plug the Line6 midi mobilizer into your iPad, then you plug a midi cable from the midi "out" from the back of your keyboard to the midi "in" on the midi mobilizer.  From that point when you select a keyboard device in Garageband you should be able to play notes on your Yamaha and make the keyboard sound on the iPad.  If your keyboard has its own audio speakers you'll want to turn the volume all the way down.
If the Yamaha is not controlling the keyboard track on the iPad you may have to go into Garageband settings to make sure its looking for midi input.  I'll verify all this when I look at my gear next time and come back and edit this post if necessary.  I'm at work at the moment so this is off the top of my head.
Some things that I'm thinking - Normally you'll have two midi cables, they run from "out" on one device to "in" on another device.  In your situation you want "out" from your Yamaha keyboard to the "in" of garageband so you can record the midi data being transmitted out of your keyboard.  You could also hook up another cable to the opposite ports, and this would allow the track in Garageband to send midi data back to the keyboard.  It would essentially play the Yamaha on whatever sound it was programmed for.  Sometimes, and this totally varies from instrument to instrument and different software, a midi message that selects a "program" will get sent to the incoming device.  So for instance, you may have a synth sound selected on your Yamaha, but when Garageband starts sending midi data to it, the Yamaha may switch back to a piano sound.  It can actually be annoying sometimes, but good software often allows you to select the program you want within the clip.
