Can I use a windows program such as QuickBooks on my macbook pro 15inch with only using boot camp or do i need to have another program?

Boot Camp is everything you need to run a Windows application.
Boot Camp allows you to install Windows in a second volume, so you can start up there and run all your Windows apps without needing any Mac OS X app. It's true that OS X apps like Parallels or VMware Fusion allow you to use your Boot Camp partition in Mac OS X, but it looks like you don't want that

Hello- My laptop needs the OS X recovery run. Can I download the software directly to a thumb drive without affecting my desktop unit? The Geek Squad said they need to wipe my hard drive and re-install the operating system. Thanks.

They already damaged you Mac by fooling with the BootCamp partition without knowing what they were doing. I wouldn't suggest haveing them help you do anything.
Here is the article that describes the Recovery HD: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
First, see if you can boot into the Recovery HD. Restart and hold down cmd-r until you see the gray screen. It should boot into Recovery. If your Mac shipped with Lion or Mountain Lion, it will boot into Internet Recovery if it cannot boot into the Recovery HD on the hard drive.
They should have tried this at the store.

  • XP 64bit on Mac Pro direct install - I did it before, but why can't I now??

Really frustrating this. I previously had an XP 64bit installation on a separate drive (WD 300GB) on my Mac Pro using a slipstreamed XP disk. I didn't use Boot Camp just did a direct install of windows, somehow.
I wanted to clone that drive onto a smaller 160GB drive I had so I could make use of the WD for backups - noting worked, so I ended up having to do a clean install of XP on the smaller drive. But this time for some reason a direct install doesn't work! I have no idea why.
I can boot into the XP CD and start the install but after the first reboot to continue the installation it can't read the drive and looks to the CD again. If I take out the CD I get an error telling me there's a disk hardware problem.
The only way I can install XP is with a Boot Camp partition first. However if I do this none of the XP disk partitioning tools will touch the disk (because they don't support GUID). I need to create a partitioned XP disk so that in the future I can reinstall the OS if I need to without wiping my data. Boot Camp doesn't seem to let me add an extra partition either. Ugghghg!!
What the **** did I do the first time around that let me do a direct install??
Alternatively can someone tell me how to create a new partition on the XP drive (by shrinking the current XP partition).

Originally the Notebook will have the Recovery Partition and that would give you an option to create a set of Recovery Disk. If you have not created those Recovery Disks when the Notebook was in working condition we cannot do that right now
As of now if you need to recover your Notebook with the new Operating System you can check if the Recovery Partition is in a working condition or not, If yes you can easily recover/restore your Notebook
    If Recovery Partition is corrupted
You need to call HP Technical Support and request for a set of Recovery Disks , So you can recover/restore your Notebook at the earliest
    OR
You need call up Microsoft and purchase an Operating System with the License Key, So you can recover/restore your Notebook at the earliest
I strongly recommend you to Contact HP Technical Support over the Phone for further assistance without any delay

  • Can dw cs3 connect directly to sql server database without a testing server?

I'm new to dreamweaver but have used script tools that link
directly to my sql server database.
Not in dw, so far. As of this early stage, I don't have or
want to use a web server, and it's blocking me
without one. I just want to prototype without a testing
server, directly to my database. And while I'll try php
later, I didn't want to have to get into it or cold fusion,
    etc. right away.
Can dw connect directly to sql server database without a
    testing server?
I'm running XP sp 3 at this point, and don't see IIS. There's
    probably some security issues
I'll have to tangle with. The goal is for my website to end
up on the company intRAnet, not the www.
fwiw, I can Build in Data Link Properties and get a
successful test to my sql server database via
Microsoft Data Link, but once I go back and try the test in
OLE DB Connection it balks on the testing server,
as I don't have one locally or otherwise. Isn't there a way
to link to db without a testing server?
    Thanks for any insights.

Yes, you can. However, Dreamweaver's PHP server behaviors
    work only with
MySQL. To connect to any other database, you need to hand
    code
    everything yourself.

  • Why can't I install newer version of iTunes on my Windows Vista Home Premium?

    Hi!
Why can't I install newer version of iTunes on my Windows Vista Home Premium?

  • How can I re-install firefox without losing my data. It is Infested with ADS BY bame.

Firefox is infested with "Ads by name".
How can I get rid of it or how can I
Re-Install firefox without losing any data?

    Couple other suggestions:
Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Add/Remove Programs. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help surface innocent sounding bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
Also, could you check whether Firefox has a non-standard '''connection setting'''? You can do that here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
The default "Use system proxy settings" should piggyback on your Windows/IE "LAN" settings. But you can try "No proxy" to see whether that makes any difference.
Finally, our support article [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] lists '''cleaning tools''' other Firefox users have found useful. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

  • Is there any way how i can download and run Window based games, with out installing Windows-thus Bootcamp? and if so, is it free?

is there any way how i can download and run Window based games, with out installing Windows-thus Bootcamp? and if so, is it free?

No, you must install Windows to run Windows software. You do not need to use Boot Camp (yes, it's free because it comes with OS X.)
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Partition disk with fdisk and windows can't be installed.

so I have been running ArchLinux for a few days, have successfully trashed my partition table once and lost everything on my systemdisk sh*t happens thats why I have one drive as system disk
Anyway, since all my partitions died I thought I could repartiotion the disk (I had been thinking of doing it anyway). So I booted the ArchLinux install disc once again and then partition my disk something like this:
/dev/sda1 - ntfs (for my windows xp)
    /dev/sda2 - /
    /dev/sda3 - /home
    /dev/sda4 - swap
All partitions are primary since I only need 4. So off I go install Arch, config everything and so on. Then today I decided to install windows, so I reboot and insert my windows disc and press any key too boot from the CD and then Nothing. My computer just stands there black screen my CD spindowns and stops my HD is chewing away like crazy.
I have no idea what to do, thought my disk has been broken or something so I open my computer case and disconnect all disks attach my secondary disk as my only one just to see if the install starts and so it does (but I don't install because it is wrong disk ). Then I thought it might be the sata-cable who is bad (happend before) so I tried another one and my systemdisk again, but no luck. After that I boot archlinux installdisc and clear  my entire partition table, recreate one 20gb ntfs partition make sure it has boot-flag and reboot. Still no luck, so back into linux and remove everything on that disk and reboots. And now the installation finally starts but instead of creating a partition during xp-install I reboot linux once again to create it in fdisk, and once again the installation doesn't start. So now I have cleare the entire disk from partitions again and created my XP partition during the XP install.
WHY can't I create my partitions by using fdisk in linux? and yes I did create ntfs filesystem on my partition (mkntfs or what the name was, exists on archlinux ftp install disc)

Yes I do know Windows will overwrite the MBR but that isn't the problem and overwriting the MBR doesn't destroy my partitions just uninstalls lilo (yes I use lilo, to lazy to learn using grub when lilo do the job god enough for me)
My problem is that I can't start the windows install. Here is what I did after ArchLinux was installed
    1) Start my computer
    2) insert windows install CD when computer is doing the BIOS startup stuff
    3) Now I get a message to press any key to boot from the CD, this is from the Windows install CD and I do press the key.
    4) Normally I would get into the Windows Install program here But now I Don't, NOTHING happens.
Then I started my search on what was wrong. I have installed Linux many times before windows and I have reinstalled windows lots of times without the need of reinstalling linux or repartition my drive.
In short, after lots of testing my computer does not start the windows install if my first disk has been partitioned with fdisk in linux (havn't tried other partition tools in linux).
EDIT: The windows install starts if I boot into linux and use fdisk to clear the entire drive from all partitions, yes no partitions at all not even one for windows.

  • Can I use my Windows 7 partition to install Windows 8?

Hello, I couldn't directly install Windows 8 because I had a .ISO and my MacBook doesn't support installing Windows 8 from a .ISO. I recently installed Windows 7 using a .ISO though and I was wondering if I can boot up Windows 7, then use my Windows 8 .ISO to perform a clean install from there. Will this work/is this possible?
    Thanks!

  • I can't put my windows xp to standby without loosing the connection...

So I can't put the windows xp machine in standby mode without loosing the internet connection. According to my LAC icon I still have a connection and if I "repair" it, it says it can but still no joy. It will work just fine after I restart the comp but that kind of destroys the whole idea of standby mode (having a saved session and all). This never happened before I installed the airport.

So, I think I've solved all my issues with the airport and my xp machine.
I did some other research and found that there might have been a issue with my zone alarm firewall and the airport. I turned it off and everything has been working good all day. I turned it on and I was back to my comp not recognizing the airport and no connectivity when I went to sleep mode and came back.
If you're running zone alarm and are having these kinds of issues.
Try and turn off ZA, if that solves the issue, turn ZA back on and go to:
Zone Alarm > Firewall (on the left side) > Zones tab (top right)> ADD (bottom right) > Host Site (top of popup menu).
When the dialog comes up, make sure the "zone" is "trusted, type in the name of your aiport (ie; house, my airport, what ever you named it when you set it up, if unsure, start the aiport from the start menu and see what it says), under "description I just put "airport router".
Then the "lookup" button comes into focus and you press it. It will find the ip address press "ok" and that is it!
BTW- My XP firewall is off.
So far so good for me. Maybe this weekend I'll see if I can get the external HD to work....(crosses fingers and knocks on wood).
