Can We Have a Perfomance Tuning Forum?

There are forums for Upgrade, Installation, Backup/Recovery & RMAN.But there is none for performance tuning. All the questions about the reports ie Statspack/AWR, Sql queries, they are pushed in the Database General forum only. With heavy volume of generic questions coming there, these threads bury inside them. I have been asked couple of times by several people/friends that why there is not any dedicated OTN forum for Performance Tuning? So if community and you think its a good thing to do, can we have a dedicated DB Performance Tuning forum too?

SQL queries tunning is not same as database tunning. Furthermore, most of the SQL queries tunning question go into SQL & PL/SQL forums.
Moreover, more you have forums, more difficult is to find active knowledge people in every single forum. We cannot track many forums as well as few of them depending of your interest.
See, few months ago, the Upgrade forum has been created, and since, only 153 posts there, it is not very used. Why ?
It has been discuss many times over here, have a dedicated forum by features/interest, or have a big one.
I don't find really strange db tunning question in the database general forum. I think even the upgrade question there have their place in that forum.
If any new forum is created, the knowledge people have to follow to maintain that forum popular, which is not sure at all. Whether we are agreed to spend our time over the forums, that'll become very complicated to be active in more than 3 or 4 forums even if there is interest.
See, OTN has upgraded the forum software for a better service, I don't think it has been reach. So, let's keep it simple.

6) Currently if we have Cell Variants, they have to be bound to context for the key values of corresponding cell editor.
If the key value doesnt match to any of the cell editor keys, application dumps saying invalid key. Instead of dumping, can there be a default editor, incase the key doesnt match?
7) ALV loosing the lead selection, when the view layout has sort order.
     - I understand that this is required up on certain context changes like rebinding complete data. However most of the times, we want to re-select the previous lead selection before ALV Refresh had reset it.
     As this happens inside Modify view of ALV, unless otherwise we use explicit Refresh, there is no other option.
     Is it possible for ALV to throw an event if the ALV services like Sort has lead to any context changes like Lost of Lead selection?
8) Search helps:
This requirement came from many users. Users would like to have custom search helps with in DDIC Search Help.
This can be any popup for performing search not just another DDIC search help. I am not sure but I think this is possible with Screen programming but not in WD.
Also more control is required to handle to F4 or Simulate F4, i.e. for example, to throw the same DDIC Search help if the user hits Enter.
The major functionality that users will miss, if they other search helps like OVS or Custom Search help, is the Personal Value List (PVL). Can we have some WD interface methods, that will help to enable/disable PVL with these custom search helps
9) Mandatory attributes check:
The current WD utilities mandatory attribute check method, does not return all the mandatory attributes for that View and context.
Also it works on lead selected data. Assuming there are hundreds of elements in context (for an ALV/Table), and the detail view has some mandatory attributes, this check has to be done every time for each and every lead selection.
Also, most of the times, the child node data changes based on parent node data. In these situations we will need all the mandatory attributes upfront and required checks has to be executed.
It will help a lot if the mandatory attributesto are passed back by the WD Utilities method once it calculates.

This is my first post, but I have been following this forum for a while and you have all been very helpful in my MacEducation. I have a MBP17 10.6.8 w/6GB ram from '08. I need to upgrade my HD from 200GB. I would like to go as big as I can and would appreciate any experiance you've had. Could I go 750GB or 500 GB @ 7200 rpm. Hi Johnny,
Yes you can do the 750 or 500, 5400 or 7200. Just make sure it is 2.5" SATA and 12.5mm high or less (there is at least one HD out there that is 15mm high and will not work).
Lion: I don't know that it matters much either way, just don't do them at the same time. That way, if there are issues, you have a much better chance of troubleshooting one major change instead of two.

Forums module can you have a logging user return to where they were?

If a non-logged in user is looking at forums topics and finds one they want to comment on. They are asked to log in but are jumped into the general secure zones user area. How can you have them return to the forum topic they were on? I have used a hack to give them a button to return to the page they were on but it only works 50-50 as the trick goes back to a page in a state before they were logged in so the browser doesn't always see them as logged in.
My litte button script is below that just uses the browser history. Any help would be great.
I heard there is a tutorial in bcgurus i might look at later but if there is anything out there besides that I am all ears. Retun to the Page I was at. Go BackGo back to where you were when you logged in.

Does anyone have any advice for this? So far not having any luck.

Dear Verizon,
Now that you have created so many problems for us with the Rezound OTA firmware update can we PLEASE have our own discussion forum?!? It has been over 2 months now. Is the bureaucracy still churning to get this done? Other phones haven't taken this long and phones that have come out after the Rezound already have their own forum discussions (ie: the Galaxy Nexus - but of course it did have a lot of major problems compared to the Rezound before the update). Is anyone listening or reading this stuff there at Verizon? Do you just not care?

well how do try to make your database?? with dbca or just manually with runing some scripts??
protocol adapter error means to me that you have to set your oracle_sid properly
before starting making your database to do that just type at the command prompt c:\ set oracle_sid=<your sid> if you chose kabul as database name just type set oracle_sid=kabul and then click on enter
when you finish creating your database run the NET8 configuration assistant to make a listener ,tnsnames.ora and a sqlnet.ora and then you can connect to your database !!

Yo ratboy,
You can do this. In order to map the images, they must be attached as a 3D resource. (There is a free plugin for this; search the forum for "Attach3DResource.api"). Once the images are attached, you can use the 3D Javascript API to map them to the meshes you desire.
For one doc, I attached 25 images in this manner. I then used the script below to create a bunch of empty meshes, and then apply the images to said meshes.

You have no idea how happy i would be to be proved wrong on this .. there are loads of posts in the discussion forums saying its impossible. If you can point me to where we are going wrong it would be very much appreciated. This is what we have tried ...
1. Create a 2 iTunes libraries on a single computer login (switching with the ALT key when starting itunes)
2. Create a new user account on the computer, create an iTunes library on each individual login.
In each scenario, the same thing happens. We can
- Start iTunes in the right library
- Log in to the iTunes store etc with each account.
The problem comes as soon as you try to download a purchased item, ie if I buy a song on my iPhone then try to down load it from the "purchased items" of iTunes account it was purchased under. iTunes gives a message saying that if i download something bought under iTunes Account 2, iTunes account 1 will be disabled from downloading or auto-download for 90 days as "this computer is already associated with an Apple ID"
Should probably have put this into the origianl post for clarity, apologies. i didnt really mean "logged in", we can log in to each iTunes account from the different libraries, but we can use the purchasing or download functionality - hopefully this makes more sense.
If you know how to set this up properly, it would be amazing if you could share it here?

I'm a school tech coordinator. I have many computers and many iPads. I apologize if there is a some place that has all the rules governing the use of Apple IDs. I looked, and I even tried to get the answers from multiple Apple rep's. I couldn't find the answers.
How many Apple IDs can I have per device?
I want to use the same computer to sync and backup many iOS devices. The iOS devices would be associated with different Apple IDs.
I may load apps under a school Apple ID and have users load their own apps under thier own ID.
How many devices can have the same Apple ID?
Can I use the same Apple ID on all the computers in a lab?
Can I use the same Apple ID on all iPads for a particular grade level?
Are the rules different for iOS devices and computers?
I know that there are limits on "authorize" and "de-authorize" and how frequently those things can be done.
Recently I heard that for the life of an iOS device, it can only be associated with five Apple IDs. That is not good for a school giving iPads to students in a 1:1
To make my life easier, I'd like 200 devices to all use the same Apple ID.

Can I have two ic;ouds on the same mac. This is a ridiculous set up. Why do I need to create a user name and insert all of this information just to get a simple answer. its no wonder people end up googling stuff rather than using this website.

If you prefer to Google, then Google. On here you stand a good chance of getting a direct answer from experienced users. And the login is necessary because without it we'd get more spam and stupid posts than we do now. Pretty well all online forums require an login for the same reason.
To answer your actual question. Firstly, you can use different Apple ID's for iTunes (and iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match) and iCloud itself, with email, Calendar and Contacts syncing, PhotoStream, and so on. There is no conflict about doing this.
If you want to use two separate actual iCloud accounts you can do one of two things:
1. You can set up a second user account on your Mac: then each user account can be separately signed into and iCloud account with all its facilities.
2. Having decided which iCloud account is to be your main one, and having signed into System Preferences>iCloud with it (and enabled Mail, Calendars and so on) you can sign in with the other account in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts & Calendars. The email, calendars and contacts will appear alongside those belonging to the first account. The only differences from the primary account are a) Email is not 'pushed' but checked at intervals, and b) you can only use PhotoStream with the primary account.

How many tasks can I have in NI-DAQmx system?

I am designing a new test platform that will run on C# (because we like object oriented text based programming and because the IDE is free). For hardware we'll use your PXI modules (because your hardware is ultra-reliable). I'm starting with the following PXI modules 6259, 4072, 6509, 2575, and 2569, but we made add other modules later as future requirements demand. I am doing the system software architecture now. I've done some dabbling with Ni_daqmx, and I loathe "tasks" and "channels", but am determined to make them work.
The difficulty I'm having revolves around the overhead with setting up tasks and channels and with the concept of tasks and channels. Help hasn't helped much. Tasks seem to work great if you intend to always collect the same large amount of data from many sources and always will do it in exactly the same way.
We want something much more akin to random access memory. We'll have UUTs of different kinds coming on and off at random times. Sometimes a test will need a simple DC voltage, and other times another test will need 2 seconds worth of data at 1MS/s. It can cost around 150msec to make that change (stop the current task, creat another one, configure anohter channel, start up a new task, blah, blah, task this, channle that - for the life of me I can't understand what this damn taks concept does for me but make matters more complicated and bog down my system).
I can just barely glean from the help that I can have only one analog input task at once, but I can have sevferal taks of several different kinds running at the same time ( a digital output task and another task for digital input, and another task for analong input, etc.) . It does seem that I can set realys without having to put them into a channel and a task (Thank goodness for that - I just wanna turn on a relay I have no idea what a relay "channel" might be.)
In the PXI system I described above I'll have two devices that are analog input devices, the DMM and the Daq. Even with two devices, can I only have one analog input task running? Does that mean I've got to waste 150msec just to switch from the DMM to the Daq? (Do you understand my frustration with "tasks"? - I should be able to say "read DMM" and turn around and say "read Daq channel 0" without having to jump thru task and channle hoops and waste a bunch of time doing it).
I'll also have Daq digital IO and two 6509 digital io modules. Do I have to cram all of that into some "task" concept too? The Daq card has got many other kinds of wonderful capability (frequency measurement, counters, analog output). How many tasks can I have for that stuff? On the DMM card I can measure capacitance amoung other things. Will I have a capacitance task? The idea of a "capacitance task" hurts my head.
Golly I hate tasks. Please help.

For some the concept of tasks may seem daunting, however, for many applications it makes life a lot more simple. A task at a very fundamental level is simply a collection of channels with a single type (AI, DI, DO, etc.) and a single timing configuration (sampling rate, continuous vs. finite, etc.). It is a way to organize configuration data.
The concept of a task is an abstraction like OO programming. Like OO programming it may take some time to understand but can be a time saver in the end. Also like OO programming it does add some initial programming overhead. It is much more simple to simply type a printf statement in C than to have to create a bunch of classes just to output text to the screen. You can accomplish the same thing not using OO programming, but in the end OO programming is extremely useful, because it groups useful information and methods together in one place.
With very simple applications OO programming sometimes does not make sense. But as a program gets more and more complex OO programming becomes more and more useful. It takes some learning but it is worth it.
I believe the concept of a task does the same thing. It does not change the actual functionality of the device or add excessive overhead. It is just an abstraction that pulls configuration data about a specific "task" and methods the task can perform into a single logical place.
Unlike the entirely abstract concept of an Object, a Task is run on a physical device and therefore has physical limitations. You can create multiple tasks of the same type, but you can only run a one timed task of each type on a single board at a time. In other words you can have multiple AI tasks running at the same time but they need to run on different boards or only one can be timed (have a rate). You can also have multiple timed AI tasks configured for a single board but only one can actually be running at a time.
The reason you can only have a single timed task running at a time is because the M-Series boards (and many other boards as well) have a single timing engine for each type of acquisition or generation. There is a single timing engine for AI, one for AO, and so forth. You cannot have channel 1 running at 1 MS/s and another running at 50 kS/s.
However, tasks can exist even when they are not being actively run. You can create all the tasks you need at the beginning of your program and simply start and stop them as you need. After the task is stopped you do not need to clear the task until the end of your program. You can further increase performance by moving the Task into the latest state possible without actually starting the task. This can be done by calling myTask.Control(TaskAction.Action). The Task states are further explained in the NI-DAQmx Help Manual.
The concept of a task will need to be used with any device that is being programmed using NI-DAQmx. The 6259 and 6509 will need to be programmed using DAQmx. With the 2575 and 2569 you have the choice of either using the NI-DAQmx API or the NI-SWITCH API. The SWITCH API does not use the concept of tasks. For the 4072 you will need to use the NI-DMM API. This API also does not use the concept of tasks.

I believe the number you are looking at is the number of times a particular thread has been looked at (viewed) by different users. When someone else opens your question, the view count should increase.

We are using it for our department and it would be great to see who created what form instead of it being all one name.

Each person should have their own account. You can easily share the forms with other people in your department. You will be able to see who the author of the form is.
