Can we have an Apollo forum please?

This facility already exists, and some Discussions members make themselves available to receive private messages by posting their public email addresses or their AIM/iChat user names in their profiles while other members do not. Many, myself included, have absolutely no desire to be contacted through back-channels of any kind, which is evidenced by the absence of contact information in my and their profiles; and, presumably, this latter class of member will see any requirement to make their contact information public, or the implementation of any device by which members are able to contact each other out of public sight, as being incredibly invasive.
The absence of such a requirement or software feature or device, with each member having the ability to decide for themselves the degree to which and the means by which they would be willing to avail themselves to other users, whether spontaneously or by appointment, is, IMHO, really for the best.

    Hi there
I had the same problem and I found this answer to a similar question to ours, so I copied and pasted it for you
Reset the device by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time for approximately 10 seconds.  After it resets the message will be gone and you can go to settings > icloud and put in your password.
That seems to be a bug with the password alert where it won't respond correctly sometimes.
    Hope this helps

  • Can we have a RFM forum also here !!

If we can have a RFM forum like other forums, it would be a great help .
As we are going through RFM, a lot of questions/discussion can happened over there.

I have previously suggested this as well as there seems top be lots of issues that are only relevant to the X-Fi cards!!
The forum is quite big and it is tiresome to wade through many posts that are not relevant to my card as the default view (am i missing other options) is on the small side.
Perhaps there should be family sections like the audigy, X-Fi, etc and a general section for all soundcards.

  • Can anyone here at the forum please explain what is"maintenance sripts".

What is the difference between -daily, weekly, monthly, maintenance scripts and should this procedure be done on Macbook Pro's?

More about Maintenance Scripts (and how to run them) here:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/maintscripts.html
Yes, you allow them to run periodically. You can also use the free utility Onyx to do this:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/onyx.html
as well as the alternatives mentioned in the first link.
Repairing permissions is also an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.
    And so save you asking:
    What are permissions?
Every file and folder on a Mac OS X hard drive has a set of permissions—settings that determine which user(s) have access to each item, and exactly what that access is. For example, permissions dictate whether or not a particular user can open and edit a particular file. But permissions also determine which items the operating system—or specific parts of it—can access and modify, and which files are accessible by applications.
    What does repairing permissions do?
The Repair Disk Permissions function—the process that actually performs the task of repairing permissions—examines certain files and folders on your Mac’s hard drive to see if their current permissions settings are what Mac OS X expects them to be; if discrepancies are found, the offending permissions are changed to match the expected settings.
(In Mac OS X 10.3 and later, repairing permissions also performs one other, unrelated, task: If the invisible /tmp symbolic link—which is linked to the /private/tmp directory—is missing, the link will be recreated.)
Why is it necessary to repair permissions?
If permissions on particular files are “incorrect”—i.e., not what Mac OS X expects them to be or not what they need to be for your Mac’s normal operation—you can experience problems when the operating system tries to access or modify those files. For example, you may have trouble logging in to your account, printing, launching applications, or even starting up your Mac. Similarly, if an application—from Apple or a third-party developer—needs access to a particular file or folder to function, and the permissions on that item have changed in a way that prevents such access, the application may not function properly (or at all). The Repair Disk Permissions function can fix such problems by ensuring that certain files have the correct permissions.
There’s also a security element here: Many system-level files have permissions set a particular way so that applications or users that shouldn’t be meddling with those files can’t. If the permissions on certain system-level files somehow get changed so that access to those files is no longer restricted, you’ve got the potential for a major security issue. Repairing permissions can resolve such issues by resetting permissions on those files to prevent unauthorized access.
    How do I repair permissions?
The Repair Disk Permissions function is part of Apple’s Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities). After launching Disk Utility, select the desired disk—generally your startup disk—in the list to the left, then click the First Aid tab. At the bottom of the First Aid panel, click the Repair Disk Permissions button. (You could instead use the Verify Disk Permissions option to preview any potential repairs before performing them, but for most users there’s little benefit from this extra step.)
Permissions can also be repaired via the shell (Terminal) by using the command sudo diskutil repairPermissions /. However, it’s unlikely that the typical user will ever need to perform the task in this manner. It’s useful if for some reason Disk Utility itself won’t launch, or for repairing permissions on a remote Mac when connected via Remote Login (SSH), but otherwise you’re just as well served using Disk Utility.
How does the Repair Disk Permissions function know what the “correct” permissions are?
When you use Apple’s Installer utility to install software (such as Mac OS X itself or an OS X update), the installation package (the .pkg file you double-click to begin installation, or that Software Update downloads in the background for an automatic installation) generally leaves behind a receipt—a smaller Mac OS X package that includes information about every file installed, including the permissions each file should have. This receipt is placed in /Library/Receipts. When you run the Repair Disk Permissions function, it examines the receipts in the /Library/Receipts directory of the disk being repaired—which means the feature works only on volumes with Mac OS X installed—and compares the information in the receipt with the actual files on your drive. If the Repair Disk Permissions function finds a file with permissions that differ from what a receipt claims they should be, that file’s permissions are reset to their receipt-specified values. (If you’re curious about the information contained in a receipt, the easiest way to view it is to use the utility Pacifist; simply drag and drop the appropriate receipt into the Pacifist window and you’ll be presented with a list of all files installed by the similarly-named installation package, along with each file’s original permissions.)
It’s worth noting here that although the function is called “Repair Disk Permissions,” what is actually happening is that files’ permissions are being reset or restored to a particular state. It’s possible—though not common—for a particular file’s permissions to differ from what a receipt claims they should be without those permissions actually being “broken.”
Are all files affected by Repair Disk Permissions?
No. As you may have inferred from the above description, only those files installed using OS X’s Installer utility and whose installation packages leave behind a proper receipt in /Library/Receipts are affected by the Repair Disk Permissions function. This means that most of the files affected by the Repair Disk Permissions function are system-level files, application files, or system add-ons—not applications installed by drag-and-drop, and not your documents or other user-level files.
If repairing permissions is useful in general, why doesn’t Apple recommend it as routine maintenance?
    Apple does, quite explicitly:
It’s a good idea to repair disk permissions as a regular maintenance task after upgrading or installing new software.
That’s taken from Mac Help—in both Panther and Tiger—right on your Mac. Similar statements can be found in other Support articles, one of which is:

  • Can I Have A Little Music Please?

    Hello All
I'm a new owner of the Curve 8330.
I think it's an awesome phone, and suits me and the demands of my job to the letter.
Now, when I'm off work and I get to my real passion in life (I'm a musician), I'd like to hear just a few tunes that either I'm working on in my recording studio, or maybe just a couple of my favorite tunes that I find to be helpful to get through the day or night.
Let me cut through the chase......
Is it possible to download even a few songs from say, iTunes, without installing the mediacard that for whatever reason "DOESN'T" come with my devise (the biggest flaw of this phone)!
I will eventually buy one, but I just wanteed to know if anyone has found a way to download even a few songs without it.
If someone has this info............. please, please, oh please, give me the directions so I can enjoy some music like, Right Now!!
    Thanks,
    Wrightsounds

You CAN store songs into the device memory. Just note that doing so will cause your device to run out of memory faster.
Before you purchase a microSD you'll want to find out which OS your device is. Check under Options | About (will be listed as v4.xx.xxx). Look at the chart at the following link to see what size microSD you can obtain - http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB05461
On the BlackBerry go into Options | Media Card. Recommended media settings are as follows:
    Media Card support : ON
    Encryption Mode : NONE
    Mass Storage Support : ON
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected : YES
Mass Storage mode allows your BlackBerry to act as an extra drive when connected to your PC. So it will show up as an extra drive letter in Windows Explorer. So you can just drag/drop media files onto your media card
Since you use ITunes, you can you the Media Sync to synchronize your music with the device. Read up about that here: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/features/media/mediasync.jsp#tab_tab_overview

  • Hey Verizon - Can we have a separate HTC Rezound forum now please!

    Dear Verizon,
Now that you have created so many problems for us with the Rezound OTA firmware update can we PLEASE have our own discussion forum?!?  It has been over 2 months now.  Is the bureaucracy still churning to get this done?  Other phones haven't taken this long and phones that have come out after the Rezound already have their own forum discussions (ie: the Galaxy Nexus - but of course it did have a lot of major problems compared to the Rezound before the update).  Is anyone listening or reading this stuff there at Verizon?  Do you just not care?

You have already posted in the HTC Rezound space. If your history of posts are anything to go by.

  • TS3297 I keep getting the error 306 cannot connect to the iTunes Network when downloading songs on iTunes. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps from the forums and my technical issues are still unresolved. I have Windows 7. Please help!!

I keep getting the error 306 cannot connect to the iTunes Network when downloading songs on iTunes. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps from the forums and my technical issues are still unresolved. I have Windows 7. Please help!!

iTunes Store loads partially or returns "Error 306" or "Error 10054"
Proxies, parental control settings and software, security or filtering software, or a bad iTunes Store cache can cause this.
To address proxies, Remove Internet Options proxy settings  ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1490 ) and connect to the Internet without a proxy.
    To reset iTunes Store cache:
In iTunes, choose iTunes > Preferences (Mac) or Edit > Preferences (PC).
    Click the Advanced tab.
    Click the "Reset cache" button.
Click OK and see if the issue is resolved.
    Adjust Parental Controls in iTunes:
    Open iTunes.
    Access iTunes preferences:
On a Mac: From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences.
On a Windows PC: From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
    Click the Parental Controls tab.
    Remove restrictions on Parental Controls.
For more information on parental controls or content filtering software, see iTunes 10.5 for Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store.

  • Please can I have my Noise Margin lowered *again*

Message sent to StephanieG, who was very helpful last time.
Please can I have my noise margin lowered back down to 6 again?
Although it is plugged 24/7 into the test socket, it has crept up again over the last 6 weeks, until another disconnect 10 minutes ago.
Maybe BT would consider, in future HH firmware updates, allowing users to negotiate their own SNR margin, without having to go through this forum?

I think it is unlikely that BT will ever update the HH to allow users to change their noise margin as it would give them even more support issues. If you wish to continue with a latency type of FAST then I suggest you invest in a router that allows you to specify the noise margin.
