Can we IMPORT SUBTITLES?

I would like to know if there is a way we can import subtitles from another format into Premiere CS3? I use Subtitler Workshop to create subtitles. That software can export in various formats, notably Adobe Encore format. I have searched for a subtitler that will export in Premiere format, but I cannot find any. Is there any way to import other subtitle formats to Premiere? For instance, importing .srt files, or any other type for that matter?
Thank you,

As far as I am aware, there is nothing built in to CS3 to do this.
The only thing I have come across (but not tried myself) is at http://www.dvdate.ru/en/dvsubtitles.html.

Not more, they options after "import subtitles" is blank.

  • Can Premier Elements Import Subtitle files?

Can Premier Elements Import Subtitle files in one of the following formats (DFXP, SBV, SRT, SSI, TXT, VTT)?
    Thank you,

No. Premiere Elements does not support subtitles. If you want subtitles you can workaround it by having two versions of your video, one with text added to the video track and one without - but you wouldn't be able to toggle between them during playback.

  • I am trying to import subtitles to Adobe Encore but am getting error messages...

I am trying to import subtitles from a software called Aegisub to Adobe Encore, but i am receiving this error message:
The software that is used to decode the media is not available on this system. Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem.
I have exported the subtitles as an Encore text file but it still won't allow me attach these to my video. I have exported the video from Premiere as an H.264 and that slots into Encore just fine, i just need to use Encore to attach the subtitles.
Can anyone tell me what i might be doing wrong?
    Thank you.

Thanks Stan. I think this is probably the answer but seeing as i am doing this at work, it is telling me the action was stopped because it needs to be checked by an administrator.
If i manage to succeed, i shall let you know. I was trying to import as an asset, wrongly, so this is probably going to be the solution.
    Thank you

  • Importing Subtitles using Image Script

I'm just about to make a project with seven different languages. It will have audio tracks as well as subtitle tracks.
I've done subtitles in Encore 1.5 before using text with some success. For this production I need to import tif using an image script. I can get the script working, however once it's located the images to import it gives me an error message along the lines of
"Sorry, an abnormal condition has been detected. Before quitting, you have one chance to save your project..."
Note I get passed the Map Colours and Import Subtitles dialogue box. It is only when I click on this last stage that it goes bad.
Any ideas. I kinda thought this was what the program was meant to do.
    - Geoff

Turns out the problem I was having was due to memory. Needed to restart.
Naartjie, not sure how to save subtitles with a background image. Encore seems to only want to work with three colours, one is the background colour, the colour of the text and the colour of the outline for the text. So unless you can make your background image from the two colours that remain on the screen - text colour and outline, I'm not sure how to do go about it.

  • Import subtitle file error

I have a project that was split across two tapes. The tapes were sent out for subtitling and I received back two separate STL files, one for each tape.
In my build, I dropped the assets from the two tapes one after the other on track 1. Everything works fine and the subtitles for the first tape dropped in without a hitch. However, I keep getting an error when I try to import the second set of subtitles. It says "No corresponding subtitles found.
The video asset timecode may not correspond with the timecode specified for the subtitles in the import file or the file is invalid."
I reazlie that I must eventually have one big STL file. Importing an STL file wipes out any previously existing subtitles. But I can;t the second set to import at all. I cannot seem to shift the timecodes on the second STL to get the subtitles to import. My asset-based and zero-based timecodes read the same.
I can place a subtitle by hand at a particular location in the second tape footage, but when I use the same timecode in the STL file, I get the above error.
Should I have created my project with the two tapes on separate tracks? I did a quick test with that and it seems to work that way, but it would involve redoing a bunch of navigation so I would like to avoid it if possible. It seems that there should be a way to get this working on one track as I have it.
    Thanks in advance!
    Todd Nocera

I am using STLEdit to shift timecodes in the STL file. I can shift the timecode values for Tape 2's STL file. That is not a problem. But no matter how I shift the timecode, I still get the quoted error when I try to import the STL file.
In DVDSP, on Track 1, I place the wiper on a shot change that I know corresponds to a particular timecode for Tape 2. I determine the proper offset to apply and I shift the timecode values in the STL file. That part works fine. But then I get the errror on import. I doesn't load any of the subtitles. It claims the timecodes don't match but I am looking at the timecode in the timeline and it should be a perfect match.
    Thanks.

  • Importing subtitles from an outside vendor

Here's a list of questons from our supplier.
what file format you’ll need from us: .tif or .bmp?
    - navigation (script file) – .son, .sst, .stl or any other
    - color scheme for subtitles:
    o text
    o edging
    o aliasing
    o background
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Brian
You don't need them as .bmp or .tif's (though you CAN have them as either I think). Just ask for them as .stl as this will happily import into DVD-SP. As for the other info you can actually easily change that using soemthing like Text Edit once you have the subs or indeed you can select one of the subs (once imported into DVD-SP) and change things like edging etc and then Apply to Stream.
Basically an .stl file is a text file with Timecode in and out references and the text of the subtitle. You can then import this directly inot DVD-SP. SP then "creates" the subs when you do a Build. If you have them as graphics then the .stl file has a timecode in and out and a reference to the relevant graphic and it's location. If you want yur subs to have a grey faded background box (as some subs do to lift them from the background) then you will have to have graphics
Usually when we create subtitles we don't worry about all that stuff like text. aliasing etc. and just make sure that the subtitles are correctly timecoded.

  • Import subtitles for slide show

I have two slide shows, each with 50 slides. I would like to generate a text file with the subtitle definitions and import it, but apparently subtitles can only be imported for timelines. Why is that?
I have the names of the slides (the texts that should be displayed as subtitles) in an excel file and generated a text file out of it that has exactly the format needed for importing subtitles.
It would be rather time consuming to manually copy the names of the 100 slides out of the Excel sheet and insert them as a description for each slide.
Are there any technical reasons why importing subtitles for slide shows is not allowed?
    Regards,
    Christian Kirchhoff

    Hallo,
thanks again for the reply. In one case I really could do it, you are right there.
But there are slide shows, too, which do not proceed automatically but wait for the user to press the previous/next chapter buttons on the remote control. To realize the same behaviour in a timeline one had to set the end action for a chapter to "return to beginning of chapter". That works, kind of, but I found out that both with software DVD players on a computer and with regular DVD players the navigation (forward/backward) is very...irregular. Sometimes when you press the next chapter button it works, and sometimes not.
That's why I wanted to stick with the slide show instead of a timeline.
    Regards,
    Christian

  • Can't import file into DVD studio

Hi we just wrapped up a video which needed closed captioning. The company doing the closed captioning sent us a .SCC extension file which is what I'm supposed to use to embed the captioning into the video it is going along with. Unfortunately when i unzip the file it opens up with Graphics Convertor. I tried to drop it into DVD studio Pro and it won't register. Does any one have any information on working with .SCC extension files and DVD studio
    Thanks
    Victor

I have had little success importing the .scc files as line 21 captioning. Once the zip is expanded, you can try importing the .ssc file by selecting the track and clicking the "import line 21" button in the inspector. If that does not work, you may be able to convert the data to the appropriate data format for importing as a subtitle stream instead.
    hope this helps -

  • How to import subtitles made with Final Cut in DVD studio Pro?

    Hello!
I made subtitles for a movie directly on a track of my final cut timeline. How can I import now this into DVD studio pro to make an independant subtitle track?
    thank you.

DVD Studio Pro can work with STL subtitle files. they are nothing more spectacular than a plain text file.
There's a ton of information in DVDSP's online manual, under the Help menu bar item.
search that pdf for "Creating an STL Format Subtitle File".
This file can be configured to display when the user wants to see it or made permanent with the "Force Display" option.
If you export your FCP Timeline the subtitles on it will be burned into the video permanently.

  • Importing subtitle file - no subtitles

I'm exporting an xml file from fcp of preexisting subtitle tracks and using TEP to convert to an STL file. I look at it in textedit and it looks fine. I can import into dvdsp (by control clicking in a subittle track). It tells me that it imported subtitles but the subtitle track is empty. I can create a subtitle from within dvdsp without a problem on that track.
    Any ideas?

me stupid. Finally realized that dvdsp sets default sequence start tc at 0:00:00:00 while fcp sets it at 1 hr. Changed sequence tc in fcp to 00:00:00:00 and all is well.

  • Importing subtitles into DVD Studio Pro 4 that were created FCP Studio 6

    Greetings!
So in all the DVD Studio Pro 4 documentation, I couldn't find any work flow that allowed you to create subtitles, via *Text or Boris 3D Titles* in Final Cut Pro Studio 6 and then export or import your work into DVD Studio Pro to be used in the subtitle fields... Is that possible?
After painstakingly entering in subtitles for a feature film line-by-line, timing them perfectly to picture and making them look beautiful with crisp-text & a slight drop-shadow... It would be wonderful to import those files (as graphics files? DVD Studio Pro can import those...) in our DVD for release, with optional subtitles-- Instead of making/encoding 2 versions; with & without subtitles.
What is the best way to export these files, created for the film subtitling in *Text or Boris 3D Titles* so that we can import them into DVD Studio Pro 4 subtitle tracks... Could they be exported with an Alpha Channel so that the background is transparent? And will this then be excepted into DVD Studio Pro 4 to be placed in the subtitle fields?
Please help us conquer this seemingly-necessary procedure... I would really hate to think that to achieve this task we'd have to re-enter, re-design & re-time ALL subtitles to make our DVD... All of your suggestions would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jason

OK-- I love that I've found a way to answer my own question on this forum (but actually I must credit my buddy James for finding out about 'TitleExchange Pro') It looks pretty cool and should do exactly what I've asked about: Exporting/ Importing subtitles made in FCP to DVD SP...
TitleExchange Pro is a unique tool which makes complicated things simple.
If you ever wished to get your titles out of FCP into DVDSP (or another DVD authoring application), get titles into FCP from another source like DVDSP or STL, or ceate a QT with all your FCP subtitles without the need of rendering (and get automatic selection of language) or just "equalize" your FCP titles TEP will be the right tool.
There's a slight catch but it might be worth it, if this works as well as it states...Cost 135 EUR:) You can download a limited demo version that works for 30 days & 50 titles...If anyone wants to give their feedback on this software, please post it here-- We'd all be interested.
Download & more information about this process at: http://www.spherico.de/filmtools/TitleExchange/
Also, check out this video tutorial on the product... It explains exactly how to do the task-at-hand... http://www.studiodaily.com/main/minisites/finalcutpro/f/mtutorials/6851.html
Hope this finds you all well--
    Peace,
    Jason

  • Importing subtitles from sony architect??

How do i import a sony dvd architect subtitle file in to dvd studio pro? Is this possible?
    Thanks!!

If the subtitles conform either to STL specs from Sruce (which I doubt) or to Sonic Solutions Scenarist or DVD Creator they can be imported into DVD SP with no problem. If they are not, they should be converted first.

  • Import subtitle in japanese language

    Hi all, I'm in trouble...
I try to import in DVDSP4 a txt file with japanese ideograms.
I've a timecode correctly settled and txt file seem ok. Unfortunately when I import txt japanese file 40th of 780 subtitles don't appear on DVDSP4 subtitles timeline and only a portion of each subtitle appear over my video. First 3-5 ideograms of every of the 740 subtitles don't appear on screen....
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks for your attention.

Did a project like this recently. I did not have any problems with some characters being omitted from the subtitles. Look at the Inspector for one of your subtitles with missing charcters - can you see all the characters in the text input field? if so , perhaps the default position of the subtitles has been modified so that some of the subtitle is positioned off screen.
If the characters are not being imported at all, look for unusal characters or extra tabs or commas in your text file.
Regarding the subtitles which are unable to import, be aware of some limitations/requirements for imported subtitles:
    1. no subtitles are allowed to overlap. If the in point of a subtitle comes eariler than the out point of the previous one, that subtitle will not be imported.
    2. check for times that might be specific to non-drop frame timecode - do a find in your txt file for " 0:00 , " check to see if you can navigate to those times in your DVDSP track. If your subtitles are in sync with your encode, you might try replacing :00 with :02 in the text file. If the subtitles are falling progressively behind your video, you'll probably need to re-encode the video with NDF TC
    3. If your txt file does not specify font, color, size, placement, or offset, the subtitles will use the default settings for the subtitles stream in the track. However, if you have a subtitle with customized offset vaules selected when you delete the subtitles from the stream before you re-import your file, the default posistion for the new subtitles will use the custom settings of the subtitle which was previously selected.
    Hope this helps

  • Imported Subtitles Don't Burn on DVD Disc

I am new to Encore. These are the steps I followed. New project, import an .AVI as an asset, create a timeline, drag the .AVI on a timeline, then Import Subtitles as a text script selecting an adb.txt file that I paid to have created. In the monitor the subtitles play. In the preview mode they do not. When I do File > Build DVD > DVD Disc the subtitles are not displayed on the disc.
It is only a 6 minute video that I want the video and the subtitles to automatically play - just as it appears in the monitor. I did the check project button and it stated that I didn't have an end action set. I don't need it to do anything when it is done with playing the video and subtitles the first time.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Angie

I just read your post from yesterday where you wrote
"a button must always be selected when you enter a menu, so you would never have a case where no button is selected (but you can fake this with a button with no subpictures set to be your default button, although this is a usability design flaw)."
I want to create a DVD to use as the source for creating VHS copies, so I think it would be OK to use a fake button process.
If you agree, can you explain how to do this?
