Can we improve iOS 7 for senior citizens?

I support 20-30 people in the local community here and most are senior citizens.  iOS 7 has been a big miss with this group of people. We immediately used accessibility to turn off parallax and to fatten the fonts.  This helps, but they still object to the GUI animation and hip-hop color choices of the icons.  I suspect the Apple development team lacks a strong voice for the over-50 market and a few more mistakes like this "upgrade" could alienate them forever.  This is a shame, because they are the people with the most spend power to buy Apple products and influence younger generations (who buys the Christmas presents?).  After experiencing the wrath of these people, I will never again believe that Jonathan Ive was a genius in doing this design because he excluded a good percentage of the Apple market!  Dear Apple:  We need to take a good, hard look—beyond just accessibility—at representing the needs of more senior users of all of your products. The 50+ market segment appears under represented!

Thank you for the kind words. The best way to honor Steve Jobs is for the legions of loyal followers to continue to voice concerns when Apple strays from what makes them great.  Steve could tell his staff "no" when the innovation was off track.  My fear is this did not happen with iOS 7 and may be a problem with Mavericks, because it is leaving an important market segment behind. More senior users experience with Apple products is being degraded.

  • Can you make IOS 7 for the iPod 4th Generation please?

Can you make iOS 7 for the IPod 4th generation because to be honest it's not fair to us iPod 4th Generation users that the iPod 5 and the IPhone users get to have it but we don't

All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory. The 4G only has 256 MB

Is it possible I can create an iOS app for free??? I don't care what site, I just wanna know and how to add the new app to the App Store.....

You need to pay a yearly fee of $99 dollars (US) in order to be able to test the apps on your ipod and post to the app store. Other than that creating apps are "free".

  • What Skype TV Set up Good for Senior Citizens?

I wanted to get a Skype enabled TV and Camera for my Aunt's Birthday. She is a Senior Citizen and not very Computer literate. What is the best setup(TV Model) and Skype Set top Camera that is simple to use for older individuals.
I would like to call her and get connected with her having to do as little as possible. I thought that a skype enabled phone would have too small a screen so I want to go with a 42 or 50" inch tv.
Any assistance you can provide is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Joe

    Hi Joe
There are a number of options available to you.
    1. You can buy a TV which has Skype built-in. There are models available from Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, LG, Vizio, Toshiba and Sharp (not all models are available in all countries, so you'll need to check locally). With one of these TV, you just need to plug in a compatible Skype TV camera. Skype can stay signed in whilst you are watching TV, meaning that can receive an incoming call whilst watching TV.
    2. You can buy a Blu-Ray Player with Skype built-in. This is a more cost-effective option if you don't need a new TV. Again, you'll need to buy a compatible Skype TV Camera.
    3. You can buy a Skype TV Smartcam. The one currently available is called TelyHD - and is camera which has everything you need to make Skype calls built-in. You simply connect it to the TV... At the moment these devices are only available in the US.
    I hope this helps?

  • How can I improve my sound for around $300 - $500

    My simple setup is this...
    iMac G5
    Presonus FireBox preamp / interface
    Rode NT1-A condencer mic
    Audio Technica AT2020 condencer mic
    Sure SM57 dynamic mic
monitor w/ my home stereo system with Cambridge SoundWorks
Classic Series Model Six Two-Way Bookshelf Speakers (8inch woofers)
I record acoustic guitar with the condencer mics and electric guitar with my 70s Fender Princeton amp, clean with the condencer mics and if I am using a overdrivesound on the guitar I often use the SM57 mic.
I only record guitar and bass guitar, no vocals. I use the built-in soft synths and loops in LE as well.
So, as you can see this is a "low end" budget system.
Over the July 4th weekend I had the pleasure of recording with a Jazz quartet at a very high end studio in New York City. The owner (an old friend of mine) had serious gear (Neve mixing board, about 10 qute old Neumann mics, tons of old analog tube outboad gear (compressors, preamps etc..). He had both Pro Tools and a 24 track tape machine. Our budget for the recording was low so we recorded on to Pro Tools.
The sound was great to say the least.
My question to you all is........
With my limite finances, where should I spent next on my gear.
-Real Monitor Speakers instead of my home stereo system? (I was thinking of powered monitors perhaps)
-Some type of outboard gear? (channel strip, mic preamp, compressor) Are the preamps in the FireBox good enough for my level? I notice that ART and Berhinger have low cost outboard gear. Would they help?
    -A better mic?
-What abouit a small mixer to perhaps run some outboard gear through or run LE through to perhaps warm up the sound a bit?
Generally I have been quite pleased with the guitar sounds I get at the moment with the above equipment. But when I saw all the gear at the big studio I started thinking about what little improvements I might be able to make in my setup. My friend who owned the studio in NYC did make use of lots of the outboad gear.
I've been reading several articles on the Tweekheadz site.
    http://www.tweakheadz.com/
And I've been learning how to get a good sound with what I have.
    Thanks for your help,

Definitely monitors. It doesn't matter how
well your room is tuned, nor what kind of mics or
mixer you have, if the actual speakers are not up to
par. If your speakers are putting out inaccurate
sound, then you'll never get a good mix. Not to say
that a well-tuned room isn't well worth the price.
I'm just saying that if you have to choose one or the
other, go with the monitors. Then, when your budget
allows, tune your room, or get Neumanns, or
    whatever.
But, get powered speakers, so that you don't have to
put the signal through a crappy amp before it gets to
    the speakers.
For under $500, I'd probably suggest the
    M
ackie HR624. Sweetwater is listing them
    her
e for $449.99. They're good speakers for the
price, they're powered, and they'll definitely give
you a more accurate picture of what you're doing than
a home stereo system, which is build more for
    "excitement" than studio accuracy.
Edited to add: P.S., if you can afford an extra $150,
I'd recommend stepping up to the Mackie HR824, which
is a little bit bigger speaker. Sweetwater sells them
    for a little over $600.00
Wow, I couldn't disagree more. I'll take a good room before half-as*ed monitors any day.
Monitors are CRUCIAL for good mixes, so I would save my money and get something that will last me for 20 years or more. Don't skimp on analog components (preamps). Don't buy cheap transducers (mics, speakers).
A $500 input into most rooms will make a world of difference, and will improve the music SO much more than a pair of HR624s, which, while not a bad set of speakers by any means, are not something I'd consider as my "20 year" set of monitors. By contrast, those MiniTraps will ALWAYS be useful.

  • No phone service for entire holiday weekend for senior citizen

Phone service went out over 4th of July weekend and finally partial service on Sunday and better service on Monday, however there is static noise in the line and verizon acts like that is all right.  There are bushes in alley that have grown so large that they are pulling wires down from their sheer size. 20 years ago the alley was maintained and kept clear, times change and now I can't remember the last time the alley was cleared...if verizon don't do anything about this stretch of wires between the 2300 block of Wilder/Gerritt Streets (South Philly) they will when they fall. Just a heads up to future problems.

  • HT5052 How can I get ios 5 for my iPod Touch without downloading iTunes 11? iTunes 10 and above screw up .mov readibility in Final Cut Pro, so I do not want to update iTunes.

Any iTunes above 10 will screw up .mov accessibility in FCP, so I do not want to download iTunes 11 just to get this iPod Touch updated to 5 or 6.
Can I download the update some other way?

If you have a 4G iPod (one with cameras) you can only go to iOS 6.2.1 and that requires iTunes 10.7 or above.
If you have a 3G you can go to 5.5.1 with iTunes 10.5 or later.
    A 2G can only go to 4.2.1

you can update on another computer with the right version of iTunes but you will not be able to sync with your computer unless you update iTunes on your computer.
