Can we increase the field length of Packaging material type description

Hi,
The field length allowed for packaging material type description is 20 characters. If i need to have this length to be increased to 25-30.Is it possible?
I mean the description that we give when we create new packaging material type.
Pls let me know ur suggestions.

Unfortunately there is no standard way to change this, the desc. field of the view (V_TVTY-VTEXT) is created from the value T685T-VTEXT which has been defined with the Domain TEXT20, so in order to add addition characters to this field, you would need to redefine the preceding field type.

DMBTR is standard SAP field having fixed length.If you want to increase the length, you need togo to data element and domain and change there, but it asks accesskey becasue its standard field. Thats is not advisable.

it is not advisable to change the format of standard SAP table fields. most of them are being used in many different places, you will have a hard time making sure that all functionality still works OK after such a change.
maybe you can append new fields to ADRC and work with these.

Default length of BP Name field is 40 chars in length.You cannot change this ..

Mandatory fields With reference to Material types

Dear Gurus,
I need to make few fields as mandatory with reference to material types while creation of the material master data.
For example:
For Semi finished and Finished Schedule margin key is required(mandatory)
For Raw Materials Schedule margin key is optional.

find following step to make field mandatory for material type
Follow the stpes for making field as optional, required entry
1 click the tab ,(Which is u want to be Required entry )and get the field name by pressing F1 key and then
2.Go to T.Code: OMSR and enter that field name and get Selection Group
once you get selection group and field name
3 Use t.Code: OMS2 and click your material type and in next screen check Field reference ( you have assigned for material type; example :;For ROH material type the Field reference is ROH
3. Use T.code:OMS9,, Double Click your Field Reference and select field selection Group , & select round box of Required Entry or optional and save

parameters : para_name type <Type> Visible lenght 30.
u can take lenght longer than 30.

How can I increase the viewable filename length on the desktop?

Is it possible to increase the character length of the viewable filename items on the desktop? For example, if I create a screenshot, the filename for the generated image is: "Screen shot yyyy-mm-dd at XX.XX.XX AM.png" but the desktop shows "Screen shot yyyy...M.png." I would like to increase the filename character count so that more of the filename appears before it is trimmed with the ellipses.
Can this be done?
Update: I have alredy increased the grid spacing. That helps but only exposes 2-3 more chars.

When we add some items in reason codes from the dictionary, it has certain limit in reason code and title. So I can increase those field size to add bigger text for title names.

1. Once you add a custom field to your database, it would be made available to either your reports (BI) or your layouts in PCM.
2. When you create the custom field, you would specify the field length/type/properties. (i.e. "Char" field with 120 char field length) If you set this to one value when you create (say 120 char) and want to CHANGE it to 140 characters, you cannot do this without deleting and re-creating the custom field. I did check 14.0.3 and this continues in this version as well.
2a. Best practice is to be generous in your field sizes to avoid needing to change it later.
As I mentioned before, any default fields in the database are fixed to their set properties and the only way to change them is to submit an SR to Oracle to request the change.

a. I want to increase the Sales employee - Remarks (field) length from 50 characters to 200 characters.

b. I am creating 2 UDF's @ marketing documents. - Title level
At first UDF - I want to see all the vendor master data (vendor codes) by formatted search
At the secound field - the address of the relevant Ship to r bill to address of vendor has to be filled down - as soon as i selected the vendorcode on the above field.
Can we map the UDF's as per the above requirement - with out using SDK & by using formatted search.
If - we can do with formatted search - help me of how to do & send me the query.

The SAP database field lengths cannot be changed.
Reg the Formatted Search of Vendor Codes for the first UDF. The SQL would be like
SELECT T0.CARDCODE FROM [DBO\].[OCRD\] T0 WHERE T0.CARDTYPE = 'S'
YES, it is possible to trigger the FMS on the second UDF when the Vendor Code is filled in the firt UDF.
I am not clear with what you mean by the following

The Address information is in CRD1 table and you can use the first UDF's values in the WHERE clause of the SELECT statement in your second FMS
example:
SELECT T0.STREET, T0.CITY, .... FROM [DBO\].[CRD1\] T0 WHERE T0.CARDCODE = $\[ORDR.U_USERFIELD] AND T0.ADRESTYPE = 'B'
CHANGE U_USERFIELD1 with the name of your Vendor Code UDF
T0.ADRESTYPE = 'B' ..........FOR BILLING ADDRESS
T0.ADRESTYPE = 'S' ..........FOR SHIPPING ADDRESS

i use a abap webser where i've uploaded some JAR files into the mime repository.
Unfortunately the string length is limited by 40 characters and so longer file names are cut.
How can I increase the default string length? Does somebody know a workaround?

what i guess copying those jars should not create this problem.U just try in db using
"ALTER TABLE <table_name> MODIFY <column_name> VARCHAR2(<new, larger length>)"
may be it works.

If the only solution is to change the sap standard program, simply change the program, it will prompt for an access key. This key can be retrieved in the SAP support portal (service.sap.com) at keys and requests, sccr keys, register object.
Sometimes these actions are outsourced to a competence center, so maybe youre not entitled to do this, in any case ask a resident senior developer for support.

I dont think you can change variable length in debugging mode.
What you can do is if you variable is a character format you can declare it as string instead of character.
You can pack -unpack with leading zeros..and many other data manuplation.
But i doubt on changing the characterstics of the variable at runtime.
Look for some alternative data type for your requirement.
