Can we increase work process?
Hi frds,
We are using Itanium servers with 8GB RAM. How many work process can be increased for this server.
Regards,
Nageshwar
Nageshwar
6 dialog, 3 backgrounds, 2 update (v1 n v2), 1spool and 1 enqueue, even for a development system is small. Increase the number of background to at least 5.
4-6 WP per CPU is not valid anymore.
Itanium processor has a power of 800 to 1400 SAPS depending of the model. Plus they are multithreading, multi-core...
One rule of thumbs is to have 1 dialog process for 5 concurrent users. However, some applications consume more dialogs than others (reporting, PI-Sheets,
).
Also, keep in mind that you should limit the number of process per application instance to 50. So, I you plan to have more process, plan to have other application instances.
If you want more information, please give more details (SAP product? Version? Number of concurrent users?
.)
Thanks in advance.

Increase work process to specific Reports..
HI
is it possible to increase work process time to specifi report, becasue i am getting below error while running the report
The program "SAPLKARS" has exceeded the maximum permitted runtime without
interruption and has therefore been terminated.
After a specific time, the program is terminated to make the work area
available to other users who may be waiting.
This is to prevent a work area being blocked unnecessarily long by, for
example:
- Endless loops (DO, WHILE, ...),
- Database accesses with a large result set
- Database accesses without a suitable index (full table scan)
The maximum runtime of a program is limited by the system profile
parameter "rdisp/max_wprun_time". The current setting is 600 seconds. If this
time limit is
exceeded, the system attempts to cancel any running SQL statement or
signals the ABAP processor to stop the running program. Then the system
waits another 60 seconds maximum. If the program is then still active,
the work process is restarted.
please get me the solution asap
thanks By engliYou can set rdisp/max_wprun_time this value dynamically and chage it back to original value after your report is finished.
before you start your reoprt or program do this,
T-CODE --> RZ11 --> rdisp/max_wprun_time --> change value --> new value --> hit OK.
After your report is finished you can switch back to old value.

Urgent : Work process in WP table of MMC are getting status as ended
Hi,
By mistake we have ended work process from Task Manager and the MMC status we are getting is yellow only..
The entries in WP Table are changing from RUN to Ended but not reaching WAIT.. Please help me how can I recreate work process or how can I wake up those.
help will be appreciated..
Thanks..
Satya..this answer was not very helpful!
he told us, that he stopped a work process in taskmanager (for Unix people: kill -9) and after that the instance gets yellow in MMC.
what has this todo with listener, Env variables or database character set? nothing? so why change something?
I assume that he stopped the dispatcher or multiple work processes. In this case the instance gets yellow status because only the gateway is remaining.
We are not able to start a single process in a startup group after it failed.
As I already told him, stop the instance and start it again. The easiest way is perhabs rebooting.
interesting sources for analysing the root of the problem:
1. Windows Eventviewer (application eventlog)
2. SAP Tracefiles \usr\sap\<sid>\dvebmgs<no>\work dev_disp, dev_w*

Function called IN BACKGROUND TASK goes to work process DIA, not BGD
I'm calling a function IN BACKGROUND TASK
In SM50, I see it running in a DIA work process.
I want it to run in a BGD work process.
Can this be done? If so, how? If not, why not?Hi...
It looks like, it will always run in DIA process and not Background process...I am not sure that we can change the work process
Check the below link..
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_40b/helpdata/pt/69/c24f864ba111d189750000e8322d00/content.htm
What is written in the link is...
"Background updates (CALL FUNCTION IN BACKGROUND TASK) represent a variant of remote function call that is synchronous with the end of a transaction (COMMIT WORK). In background updating, an update is run in another dialog work process that may be in the same or in another application server and R/3 System. Because such updates run in their own LUWs, they may start only after all critical updates have been completed. Otherwise, it would not be possible to roll back background changes in the event of an error in another update component. "
IF you get the answer of whether we can change the work process then please let us know... -

How to view Work process status from Operating System level???
Hi,
How can I check work process status from Operating System in Unix. For example : In Windows, I can see the work process status from SAP MMC in WP Table.
How can I view from Unix?
Appreciate your feedback. Thanks.Hi,
You can terminate. Please look into the menu given by DPMON carefully. You can kill the process using the k option.
Otherwise you can also kill the process kill -9 <PID of the process>.
Please do not terminate update and ENQ work process. This may lead to data loss. If the condition can not be control by killing some processes and again all the WPs are occupied. I recommend SAP system restart.
Restart will ensure that all necessary roll backs happen and no data loss.

hi,
What is the complete process for job work process, when we are receiving the material for job work processs.
Regards
prabudhBackground jobs run in a special type of work processthe background work processthat is different from dialog work processes in two ways:
1. A dialog work process has a run-time limit that prevents users from interactively running especially long reports. that limit is always in effect for dialog work processes. No such limit applies to background work processes.
2. Background work processes allocate memory differently than dialog work processes so that background work processes can become as large as they need to in allocated memory to allow for processing large volumes of data.
<b>Use</b>
Using background work processes also lets you optimize both background or dialog processing. In night mode, more servers can offer more work processes to accommodate background processing jobs that are scheduled to run when there are lower numbers of interactive users. In day mode, you could limit background processing to fewer servers and/or fewer background work processes.
When a time-driven scheduler is activated, it starts the jobs for which it has free work processes. If there is another background processing server, then the scheduler on that server starts the remaining jobs for which it has capacity, and so on.
<b>PROCESS</b>
Assigning the program to the variant in T/C SE38
Enter the Program,
Enter Variant Radio Button ON,
Name the Variant
Assigning the varient job to its importancy & Frequency in T/C SE36
Enter Variant Job Name -- Save,

Hope This Works For you..Reward if its helpful

Increase the number of background work processes for data load performance
Hi all,
There are 10 available background work processes in the BW system. We're doing some mass load to multiple ODS.But system uses only 3 background processes. How can i
increase the number of used background work processes for new data load.
I tried to change number of prosesses with RSODSO_SETTINGS. But no successes. Are there any other settings need to change?
thanks,
YigitHi sankar,
I entered the max proc. number into ROIDOCPRMS. But it doesn't make difference. System still uses only 3 of background processes. RSCUSTA2 is replaced with
RSODSO_SETTINGS in BI 7.0 and this trans. can only change the processes for data activation, SID generation and rollback. I need to change the process numbers for data extraction. -
Increasing Dialog Work Process
Hi All
In one of our Applicaion Systems we initially had allocated only 2 Dialog Work Processes, now we want to increase this, without reducing any of the other Work Processes.
How is it possible ?
Regards
Biju KumarYou can increase the number of work processes by either:
increasing the parameter rdisp/wp_no_dia in RZ10 (restart required to take effect)
Or by creating an operation mode in RZ04.
By creating an operation mode you can switch between Operation modes at certain times of the day (SM63). -

I just bought a iTunes card and its not accepting it. It already sent it to the support team and they said they were going to get back to my within 24 hours and i am trying to buy a program in the app store for work. How can I expedite this process?
Has it been 24 hours?
I take it this was a gift card. iTunes Store: Invalid, Inactive, or Illegible codes http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1292 - gift cards
I don't know if this provides an alternative means: https://expresslane.apple.com ; select 'iTunes' in the first column; 'iTunes Store' in the second column
If you are really desperate you could buy the app yourself, then request reimbursement. -
One work process can only process one user request at a time?
Hi,
How to configure the how many work processes for 80 concurrent users login daily. One work process can only process one user request at a time? Does this mean a login user has a dedicated work process servicing him. Or many login users interleave a work process's service? ,clarify the same.
ThankuThere are different types of work processes and the number needed depends on the number of transactions that will take place in the system. We are running 80 concurrent users with 15 dialog work processes. Please see the link below for an explanation:
