Can we install Oracle 8i and 10g on the same windows server?

I would like to install the Oracle server 8i and 10g on the same windows server? Is this possible.
Forgive me if this question is already asked.
Thanks in advance!
Jay.

WHICH Windows version? (There's more than one). It would be useful to be a little bit more precise (NT,2000,XP,2003, 32/64 bit) .
For NT and 2000 it is possible to have both 8i and 10g, for XP and 2003 there's no support for 8i at all.

    Hi, there
Can I install SBO 2005 and 2004 in the same OS(Win XP)?
    Thanks for any help.
    Lanjun

    Hi Lanjun,
I know you can install both of them together on one computer. I had a document specifying the steps, but cannot find it now. The problem is that you cannot create a new 2004 company or upgrade your 2004 version.
I will look for the document and let you know.

Do you have a listener 10g service ? Did you start it ? If not, please try the following :
    C:\> set ORACLE_HOME=<Your 10g Home>
    C:\> set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
    C:\> lsnrctl start
wait up to a minute, then execute
    C:\> lsnrctl status

  • HT4818 Can you use both Bootcamp and Parallels with the same Windows 7 installed

I have Parallels installed with Windows 7.  Can I use both Bootcamp and Parallels on the same machine depending on whether I just want to work in Windows all day (Bootcamp) or alternate during the same session (Parallels)?

You can, yes. But there is a complication: once you activate windows it will only be activated for one of the two methods you use. So, let's say you install into boot camp and activate windows. You can then install Parallels and it will find your boot camp installation, but when running in Parallels, Windows will report that it is not activated. Or, you can activate it in Parallels and when running in Boot Camp Windows will report that it is not activated. The reason for this is because Windows thinks it is running on different computers depending on how you boot it. This may not be an issue for you if you run Windows a lot one way and just occasionally the other way, so be sure to activate Windows in whichever method you use more often. Hope this helps!

  • Can we install both PI and CE in the same instance ?

    Please advise ?
    Thank You and Best Regards

    Hi Fernand,
is that possible to install both application in the same instance to reduce total memory used ?
    Yes, it is possible.

  • Can I install SoaSuite 10 AND 11 on the same computer?

In addition to the already existing SoaSuite 10 on my computer I would like to install the new version 11 as well.
Is this possible or do the interfere each other?
Which Path must be first in PATH environment variable?
    Peter

Both can coexist in the same box.
SOA 11g uses the sh/cmd scripts for PATH & CLASSPATH environment variables, so there should not be any issues as such.

  • Can we install a new mssql cluster on the same windows cluster which already containes a mssql cluster with named instance

We have a MSSQL 2008R2 Enterprise edition with a two node active passive fail-over cluster running on 2008R2 windows cluster with out any issues,
Now my question is can we add one more MSSSQL cluster instance for the same setup with out disturbing the existing one ?
Also give thoughts on load sharing as the second node is mostly ideal now except fail-over scenarios,
Why we go for this situation is because of the collation setting which can be set only one per instance(Database collation setting change not working), we need a different default collation for the new setup

    hi,
    >>Now my question is can we add one more MSSSQL cluster instance for the same setup with out disturbing the existing one ?
Yes it is possible .You need to add new drives as cluster aware and install SQL server and put data and log files on thse drives.YOu would need to create named instance of SQL server and need to create different resource group. Both old installation and new
    onw would work separately.
    >>Also give thoughts on load sharing as the second node is mostly ideal now except fail-over scenarios,
Good point indeed. You are about to create Multi instance cluster and should plan for scenario where one node is down and other node is handling load for both instances.Memory and CPU should be enough to handle the load.
    >>Why we go for this situation is because of the collation setting which can be set only one per instance(Database collation setting change not working), we need a different default collation for the new setup .
Just for collation if you are installing new instance seems little wierd to me.You can manage collation at column ,database and at server level.

  • IDS10g and Oracle 9i Release 2 on the same  windows XP or NT machineo

I want to use Oracle 9i Enterprise Ed.Release 9.2.0.1 as Database and iDS 10g to develop a Database application, the twice on the same Windows XP machine.I was confused when trying to install the Repository 9i for SCM 9.0.4.3.14c and when reading the System Requirements in the Oracle SCM Repository Installation Guide to understand that to develop on the same machine I could just use Database 9i Enterp.Ed Release 9.2.0.2 using just Windows NT.
    Question:
    -Is that true?
-Can I use the Oracle Database 9i Release 9.2.9.0.1 or 9.2.0.2 and iDS 10g on the same windows XP machine to develop my application and not Windows NT 4.0?
Thanks for reading and for your response!

    Hello Sir Russel,
Thank you very much for your Response.I have to say to excuse me for the quality of my Englich because I speak German and french Language better.
I'm not using Oracle 10g because it was told me that iDS10g is not for the time supported by Oracle 10g.
    So I'm using iDS10g and Oracle 9iRelease2.
I already knew the link you send for the Installation of the reposity and it is exactly there, where I have the problem with :[WINDOWS NT ONLY ]:In the System Requirements it is wrote:
The client workstation(iDS 10g) and the database server(Oracle 9i) can be on the same machine [WINDOWS NT ONLY ]:So can I use Windows XP professional like I want instead of Windows NT or should I use windows NT 4 because of installing Oracle 9i and iDS10g on the SAME MACHINE?
Thank you very much for responding.

  • Designer 6i and 10g on the same machine?

I have Designer 6i and corresponding repository on my machine.
The problem with 6i I can't save diagramm in HTML format
I believe I can save in HTML format in 10g or other?
Can I install on the same machine 10g designer?
    should I configure new repository?
    TIA

See my update on your earlier question.
As for running 6i and 10g on the same machine, yes you can do it. You just have to install them in separate Oracle Homes, and be careful when you tell them which version of EXP and IMP to use. There is one MAJOR caveat, however. They cannot use the same Designer Repository - 6i client won't talk to a 10g repository and 10g client won't talk to a 6i repository. You can upgrade a 6i repository to 10g with the RAU, but take a backup before you do - the only way to go back is to restore your backup. Besides, I think that if you upgrade to the last supported version of Designer 6i (you should be able to get it from MetaLink) you will get the Publish Diagrams utility.
Frankly, my opinion is that there is only one reason to stay on 6i - if you need to generate and support 6i client/server Oracle Forms. If you don't use Oracle Forms, or if you have moved on to Web Forms with the middle tier Forms Server, I'd recommend an upgrade to Designer 10g and Developer 10g.

  • Error Running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time

    Hello,
We are having trouble running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time on certain user's machines. Here are the specifics:
The user opens Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer. The user then opens Discoverer in another Internet Explorer windows and receives the following error: Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe abnormal program termination
As a work around, I installed Firefox on those user's machines. These users run Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer and run Discoverer in FireFox. This has solved the problem in 99% of the cases. However, there is one user who is having FireFox using Discoverer freeze when running Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer.
Can anyone provide any insight on how I can solve these conflict issues so users can run Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Carlos

    Hi Michael,
I agree with you completely. It is reccommended to run 10g on a separate physical server unless you have sufficient resources to run on the same server (which even most large clients do not) Even then, I would recommend a separate server.
I should have put my comment in context :-)
a.) I was only stating that it was possible
    and
b.) whether 10g is installed on the same physical server or separate should not affect the client browser crashing issue that was posted.
I do have an install with EBS11i and Discoverer 10g on the same physical server and it works fine (this is sandbox/ TEST). Most of my large customers have 10g installed on multiple physical servers due to load balancing (capacity).
I do work for Oracle. I try to help out on the forum when I can, but it is hit or miss :-(
I would be glad to discuss anything privately.
As for the issue at hand, I can reproduce the problem and here is what is occuring.
I have EBS 11i configured with Jiniator 1.3.24
I have Discoverer 10g configured with Sun Java plugin 1.4.2_06
    1. If you launch EBS 11i apps and a form with MS IE, then the browser launches the form using Jiniator JRE 1.3.xx (whatever you have configured in AutoConfig for EBS11i)
    2. Next, the user navigates to EBS 11i SSWA and launches a Discoverer workbook.
What occurs is a child IEXPLORE.exe process is spawned from the parent IEXPLORE.exe process and Discoveer Plus is launched. The parent iexplore.exe process will be attached to the Jiniator JVM. Now if Discoverer is configured with
    a.) Sun Java Plugin or
b.)a version of Jinitiator that is a different version from what EBS 11i is configured with
then you may get this conflict.
It really is an MS IE/JRE conflict with Jinitiator and Sun Java Plugi and the way the broswers attaches to the JVM (IMHO) as this behaviour could be reproduced with other non-oracle java applets.
You can workaround the situation by:
    a. configure EBS11i and Discoverer to use the same version of Jiniator 1.3.xx
    b. educate the users to open one MS IE browser to connect to EBS11i and then open a second MS IE browser to login to EBS11i SSWA or Discoverer 10g Plus directly to launch workbooks. They need to to this by clicking on the icon and not using File >> New browser. Clicking on the icon will spawn a new parent iexplore.exe process that can attach to a second/different JVM. File >> New Window will spawan a child of the parent.
    c. As you did use two browser versions. MS IE for EBS11 connection and FireFox for Disocverer 10g connection.
I would choose optoin b, so that you can use Sun Java Plugin with Discoverer.
Open to any comments. I hope that helps you workaround the problem. The ideal solution is to have EBS 11i use/cerified with the 1.4 or 1.5 JRE. In poking around, I see there is a related post to this on one of Oracle's EBS 11i Product Managers Blog.

  • How to install Oracle 9i (9.2.0.2) in Windows Server 2003 x64 - Intel Xeon

I have tried to install Oracle 9i (9.2.0.2) in Windows Server 2003 x64 Enterprise Edition with Intel Xeon (EM64T) processors.
When I run setup.exe I get an error: "The image file C:\Documents and settings\administrator.SERVERNAME\my documents\92021 win64_disk1\setup.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine".
I have to install Oracle 9i in that server but I can't run the installation. Is there a way to solve this problem, is there a patch that can solve this? Anyone know something about this problem?
    Thanks a lot!!!
    I'm desperated!!

    Hi,
    reply to my own question:
In the docs provided with the downloads for Oracle Database Server 9i x64, I found that this version requires either
    - Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition for 64-Bit Itanium 2 Systems
    or
    - Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition for 64-Bit Itanium 2 Systems
So I guess, the only X64 platform being supported under Windows Server 2003 (both Datacenter / Enterprise Editions) is Itanium CPUs ...
... though this is not (!!!) clearly stated in the download link (other/newer versions are listed more precisely - I guess it's a matter of an old link: no Intel Xeon / AMD Opterons were available (???) when Oracle 9i database server was published).
So I'll give it a try with 10g database server ;-)))

If this is true, then it would explaing the problem that I am having with running Designer 9.0.4.3.14 on the same machine that I am running Personal Oracle DB on.

  • 9i and 10g in the same nodes

    Hi.
I would like to know if it's possible to have two database in different versions (9i and 10g) in the same nodes.
In this case, I suppose that I have to install the tow clusterware, one for 9i and another one for 10g, haven't I?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    both your assumptions are correct.
You can have a 9i RAC database and a 10g one both in the same cluster. However, you would need to have 10g Clusterware and another cluster software for the 9i RAC. On Linux and Windows Oracle would use the Oracle Cluster Manager (CM) for the 9i RAC, on all other platforms you would need to get a third party cluster software for the 9i RAC database, since the 10g Clusterware cannot serve as the underlying cluster software for the 9i RAC database. Nevertheless, the 10g Clusterware GSD would be used to manage the 9i RAC database in those combinations.
    Thanks.

  • How to Install R/3 and CRM on the same Server?

    Hi All,
I would like to install R/3 and CRM on the same server (as the load is less). I know how to install them seperately.
I would like to have some instructions how to have them installed on the same server.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Vijay

As Sunil explained - MCOD (or) you can think to have 2 differnt DB SID's as weel 2 different SAP SID's. By default 1st Installation takes Listener Name as LISTENER & port 1527 when you are doing second Oracle installation use another lister name as LISTENER002 & give port 1526 ( for example).
MCOD will be the best option to unplug from oracle instalation requirement but - think of future plans. even it can be any size business don't think to do MCOD with SAP Business System like R3 .
Becuase qwe may have different requirements from the Business / functionla Team for refreshing / building the development system with a copy of production system - don;t get confused there are Techniques for Refreshing a Development Instance with production system also.
Any how you have to take decission to go with MCOD (or) not . I also request SUNIL to comment on MCOD installations  with R3 system .
But  I beleive Sascha Version is wrong - i can have multiple application servers of differnet products on single Box if my OS supports.
as application servers will have 3 individual mount point which points to different system
    <Central Instance>:/sapmnt/<SID>/global
    <Central Instance>:/sapmnt/<SID>/prfoile
    <Central Instance>:/sapmnt/<SID>/exe
each SID  NFS mount point can point to different sever & i can multiple application server of differnt SAP Products on 1 BOX.
Trans directory is problem - but it does not require either for installation (or) for runningAS instance .
