Can we *_PLEASE_* have a .sig for Oracle forums?

I have requested this before and I will go on doing so (every year, I suppose)
until the people at Oracle listen.
Why - OH WHY* can we not have a 5 line .sig for our posts to this forum?
I am blue in the face from trying to tell people to put
Software - DB Server version - OS (+ version)
Hardware - CPU config - Disk config
into their posts re. Oracle databases and running/tuning queries &c.
Please support my campaign - SOS - (Start Our .Sig!!!) NOW*

In order to adequately respond, you really should be collecting an RDA <g>. A Recursive Decision Algorithm? Or
a Relational Distributed Architecture? Possibly
a Random Duplicate Allocation?
I think you probably mean a Requirement Development Analysis?
No. I mean the Remote Diagnostic Agent output. The one that you are asked to submit with an Oracle Support technical Service Request.
Surely you are aware of the Support requirement for that information.

At the very least you should get both client Maybe I'm just incredibly naive - I start by assuming
that the client can connect with the server... having
said that, I appreciate that there can be compatibility
issues.
I ain't talking about compatibilty. Having a 'I gonna be an Oracle guru'-type tell you that he's installed the Oracle client on XP Home and has no idea what a firewall is can be useful troubleshooting infomation.
And then there is the "I can't get Forms 4.0 to connect to my 11g database" challenge.

and server OS (including family, edition, version I'll go with this.
and patch level ), Patch level? I don't think the .sig should be longer than
the post - If the debate starts to have to get to the level
of patch level, then it's gone way beyond the scope
of a .sig.
The vast majority* of problems IMHO aren't related
to patches, but are (normally) far simpler than that!
Knowing whether the user is at 10.2.0.1 or 10.2.0.4 is not important to you? Knowing whether the user is running Windows XP Pro SP2 or SP3 is not important? WHether the database is on XP Home or Vista Bliss and Pleasure Edtion could be as uninterestinng as whether the user has updated to the latest WIndows Defender.

Oracle product (you are assuming database, but ...)Well, database would be my interest area, and I normally only post
to those fora!
And the rest of us are schmucks? <g>

Memory config might be more important than disk, especially
if looking at Java issues, and that includes any OEM issues.Well, yes, obviously RAM would come into the equation - I would
have thought that would be under the rubric of Hardware.
SGA and PGA are memory configurations. In Linux and Unix, the SHMEM and SEM parameters are memory config. Last time I looked they were not part of hardware.
Knowing whether the user has 1G of RAM and the hardware steaks 512M of that for video could also be useful. But is that hardware or software? The typical newb gonna tell you "but my machine has 1GB RAM".

You may want to simpily by setting up a blog with your rant (a bit
like mine at http://hansforbrich.blogspot.com/2008/07/
why-do-they-always-ask-for-version.html) and just linking your sig to the blog. The problem with links is that those who don't bother to read
forum guidelines are even less likely to bother to go further and
follow a link before posting - though I will, myself, certainly be
casting an eye over yours from time to time.
The problem with ranting in .sigs is that people will ignore that.
If you look very carefully, 99% of the problems in the forums come from people who don't read AT ALL. It doesn't matter whether you use a .sig (I used 'em foir years in CDOS) or provide a link.
Seems like many of those who have trouble and turn to the forums go deaf, dumb, blind and schtoopyd, just when the most important tools they need are reading and thinking.

Paul...Do takie my response with a grain of salt. It has more to do with Devil's Advocate and what feels like twenty-umpteen-two years of responding to Oracle questions. And using .sigs even back in my Compuserve days ealy to mid 90s.

  • Can anybody provide AIX shell script for Oracle Apps R12 instance backup

    Hi
Can anybody provide AIX shell script for Oracle Apps R12 instance backup? Manually, i am able to backup but i donot have shell script to schedule through crontab.
    Help me please.
    Thanks

Rman can be used for Database, not for Application tier. Again, I assumed you are looking for a script to backup the database. For the application tier, you can simply do a filesystem backup.
I still do not understand your concern? Is it about using crontab? If so, then check here --> man crontab <--

  • How can I use custom WLST commands for Oracle SOA Suite in Weblogic

    Hi There,
I'm trying to view and search the weblogic log files using WLST on a Solaris/Unix system.
I have come across this "custom WLST commands for Oracle SOA Suite" and thought of using the custom logging commands to get my task done.
However, my WLST shell is not recognizing the commands and giving me the NameError!
    wls:/devDomain1/domainRuntime> listLogs()
    Traceback (innermost last):
    File "<console>", line 1, in ?
    NameError: listLogs
I tried the commands listLogs, displayLogs, getLogLevel & setLogLevel but in vain!
I have followed the instructions as per the oracle recommendation of using Custom WLST commands (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E29597_01/core.1111/e10105/getstart.htm#ASADM10692) as below
    - Launched the WLST shell from Oracle Home.
    cd ORACLE_HOME/common/bin
    ./wlst.sh
    - Tried to run the listLogs command from domainRuntime()
I would like to know if I need to import any additional libraries to run the custom WLST commands for Oracle SOA Suite in my WLST shell?
I have only weblogic 10.3.1 server installed on my Solaris 10 machine on which I have deployed the OSB application software.
There is no SOA Suite installed.
Or is there any other way I can browse the Server Log file and get the list of log messages? Basically I would like to use this feature in my script to customize it according to my requirement of listing specific error logs which I can work it out if I know how to make these commands work.
Please advise if this is possible and how?
    Cheers.
    Satish

I have tried on my OSB installation (no SOA Suite here), the command listLogs() works (I was in online mode, after a connect), and the classpath is:

could not locate the setup or translator libraryThe symptom described is typical of an incorrect system env PATH setting (used by the data source admin tool), compared to that of the Oracle Home (specifically, path $OH/bin). The odbc driver config routine will search directories listed in PATH variable for necessary libraries (Client dll's). If some library fails to load (from e.g. oraoci*.dll or oraclient10.dll) it will probably error out, as in your case.
Are you creating the odbc dsn on the databse server host or on some other machine? I.e. are you using the db host as a client or not?

  • Can't change my email address for this forum

I need to change my email address for this suport forum, but can't figure out how to do it.  If I go to my profile, I can see it but I can't change it.  And it's different from my main Apple ID which is set already set correctly with the email address I want to use.
    How do I do this?

After a long couple of sessions with Apple tech support, here's what I've learned (for the benefit of others):
If you have more than one Apple ID like I do, then the original one that you used to sign into these forums is the one you're stuck with.
You can change that original ID's email address and/or password, but you must keep using that "first" set of credentials.  If you try to sign in with your newer Apple ID, it won't work, it'll keep prompting you for the old ID, so make sure you write it (and the password) down somewhere.
I made the original mistake of creating a 2nd Apple ID when I closed an old email account a couple of years ago and needed to stop using that old email address.  What I should have done, and will apparently have to pay for forever, was to simply change the email address on the 1st Apple ID.
Bottom line from my experience is be sure to only use one Apple ID.  If you create another, you'll be stuck with both for all time and have to use one or the other depending on which one you originally used in a particular situation. For example, when I get a new iPhone, I have to use the old Apple ID to download all the apps 2 years old and older, then sign out and back in with the new ID to download all the apps 2 years old or newer.  What a pain, but Apple has no way of combining them.  The tech rep said to send feedback, which I've already done.

  • Can I change the SQL Datatype for Oracle Date?

xMII 11.5 maps Oracle's Date type to its SQL type code 91 (Date).  When used in a display template, this xMII type displays only the date component (for example, "5/5/2007"), but in Oracle it holds the date and time.  In Java, the java.sql.Date type also holds the time component.  To get xMII to display a date/time (for example, "5/5/2007 11:23:59") you must have a SQL type code of 93 (Timestamp).
Is there any way to get my xMII widgets to show the date and time components of an Oracle Date?  Is there a mapping of some kind that tells xMII which database SQL types map to which xMII SQL type codes?
    -tim

    In Aqua Data Studio:
    SELECT CREATED_DATE_TIME, MESSAGE FROM COLLABORATION_LOG
    where CREATED_DATE_TIME > to_date('01/01/07','mm/dd/yy') and site='DEM1'
    order by CREATED_DATE_TIME DESC
    GO
    results:
    CREATED_DATE_TIME   MESSAGE
    5/3/2007 8:30:25 PM   (403)Access Forbidden
    5/3/2007 8:30:25 PM   (403)Access Forbidden
    5/3/2007 8:30:25 PM   (403)Access Forbidden
If I put the exact same SQL (without the "GO" at the end which is an Aqua Data Studio keyword) into a Fixed SQL Query in xMII and click "Test" and choose html format I get:
    CREATED_DATE_TIME MESSAGE
    05/03/2007 00:00:00 (403)Access Forbidden
    05/03/2007 00:00:00 (403)Access Forbidden
    05/03/2007 00:00:00 (403)Access Forbidden
The time component is reported as "00:00:00" in xMII which is not the desired result.  I want xMII to see that column as a Timestamp which should read and sore both the date and time components in xMII.
