Can we run Xcode 5 smoothly in MacBook air 4th generation with 4GB RAM and 1.3 GhZ processor ??

I am planning to purchase MacBook Air-11inch due to light weight. As MacBook air has turbo boost feature upto 2.6GHz.

I would recommend a different machine. I don't see how you will do anything in Xcode on an 11" display. I finally broke down and got a 2nd monitor for my 13".

  • I have a MacBook Air late 2010 with 4gb RAM and 128gb SSD, is it possible to upgrade that hard drive through a genius appointment?

    As above, cheers

RAM cannot be upgraded - there are no RAM sockets - the chips are soldered to the logic board. The SSD can be upgraded through third party upgrades (see OWC) but Apple won't perform this upgrade. You'll either have to install it yourself (an easy upgrade though it could void your warranty) or have it installed by an independent Apple service provider.

Snow Leopard is back on the online Apple Store, at least in some countries. In the US:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
If it's not listed on the web site of the Apple Store in your country, call the online Apple Store,; they may still have copies of Snow Leopard available .
If they no longer have it available, you'll need to look to private sellers, and the prices are rising quickly. If you buy from a private seller, make sure you get the retail disk set (white label with a picture of a Snow Leopard), not the system disks from another model of Mac (grey label).
Once you get the disk, install the OS and run Software Update to get to the latest version of 10.6 and iTunes. You should then be able to sync.
    Regards.

AirPlay Mirroring requires a Mid 2011 or newer MacBook Air. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 If it's compatible, you have two possibilities:
    1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. Then, you will be able to turn on AirPlay on System Preferences > Displays.
    2. Keep with OS X Lion and use AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com
    Both options work properly

Then I must restart required by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.
installing on a battery, not charging is OK and works good drivers updated, but when you plug in the charger for charging the MAcbook Air Battery , it stops working again.
I Confused. May be a driver of

I see that you are saying all versions of Windows 8 are failing on your system, but are you including 32-bit and 64-bit flavors?  I understand why 32-bit versions might give you grief (too much RAM for a 32-bit system to handle).  A 64-bit system might still have device driver issues.  Microsoft does not auto-magically have all the device drivers in the world that are necessary to make any system usable.  The original device manufacturers must provide Microsoft with drivers before the Windows Update servers would be able to communicate said drivers to the computers in question.
In regards to Apple devices, Apple has not yet released the device drivers needed to run the hardware with Windows 8.  Apple has released the drivers for previous versions of Windows (XP SP2 and higher, Vista RTM and higher, 7 RTM and higher) to their userbase, but not to Microsoft for distribution through Windows Update (unless I am mistaken).  Until Apple releases a version of Boot Camp updated for use with Windows 8, they have not yet released any form of the full collection of necessary device drivers for normal device function with Windows 8.  Running compatibility mode on the Windows 7 device driver bundle via boot camp is not a fully palatable solution because compatibility mode generally is meant for application programs, not device driver services.  Therefore, partial compatibility might be gained by using the Windows 7 device drivers for Windows 8 with the compatibility mode enabled prior to install.  Unfortunately, much unanticipated incompatibility is equally likely with such a decision.
Some parting words on the subject may be necessary for clarification: prior to the RTM versions of Windows 8, the trial versions of Windows 8 were distributed with a much wider array of device drivers than the RTMs.  This was for Microsoft's testing purposes.  Furthermore, some of the architecture used during the trial period likely used Windows 7 engines more than Windows 8 engines.  This means the Windows 7 drivers pack would have had more likelihood of working during the Beta and Release Candidate periods than during the final Golden Master period we have now entered.  Regardless, it is not recommended by Apple (our hardware manufacturer) to use another method of installing Windows on a Mac than to utilize Boot Camp.
As Mende1 suggested, you would be wise to reinstall a previous version of Windows you may have been running.  Also, given your previous post, you will want to repair your OS X installation back to full functionality prior to the Windows reinstall.  For a reasonable timeline estimate, consider that it took 89 days from the original release of Windows 7 by Microsoft until Apple originally released device drivers via an updated Boot Camp.  That puts a reasonable ETA for the necessary Boot Camp update at January 22nd/23rd.  Even though this does not seem to apply to your situation, the discounted download for the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade will end after January 31st.
    Cheers!

    Hi,
I have a MS-7253 with 4gb ram recently installed on it but in bios memory check state it only shows 312something KB (3.2GB) and BIOS is the latest one.
According to MSI's site, this motherboard is supporting upto 4gb. I've turned off the on board vga as well and my vga card is an nvidia geforce 8400GM.
the funny part is windows 7 recognize the whole 4gb but it says I only can use 2.8gb of it.
whats wrong with my M/B? is there any other update which I'm not aware of?

    Thanks for your reply,
does that mean there is no chance for upgrading ram to 4g? or by BIOS update I can do that?
I have found another BIOS update newer than what I've got from this link:     https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=153338.0
just in case if I screw my BIOS can I revert it back to what it used to be?

  • MacBook Air dual system with Windows crashed, and Mac password forgotten

The MacBook Air of my friend encountered a few big problems.  Here is the story:
    1. There are two operating systems in it: Windows 7 and Mac OS 10.6.  She used Windows 7 exclusively (which is the reason for the 5th problem below).  This may already seem awkward from the start, but please don't blame her for this..
    2. Today somehow the Windows 7 cannot boot (the classical "blue screen" appeared), probably due to an error in the updating process.
    3. So now we have to log into the Mac OS to do some operation on the Windows system, either to back up the data, or to edit the Windows disk somehow to repair it.
    4. In order to do this, we need to install some third party tools in Mac OS (to have access to the NTFS file system; BTW, the Windows partition cannot be mounted by the "disk utility" tool due to some errors), and here is where another big problem comes about:
    5. She has forgotten the password of the Mac OS system (be assured: this MacBook Air is not a stolen one), so practically we cannot install any new software, or run tools that requires a high privilege!
    6. Well, by Googling I found that the password might be circumvented by using a recovery usb stick, by she cannot find out this usb stick...
    7. Some articles mentioned pressing "command + R" or "command + S" during booting to enter a command line environment (I am not sure about this), which had no effect at all in our case.
By now I have no solid idea how could such a situation be solved...  The possibilities I can think of are:
    a. Take the laptop to an Apple repair center.
    b. Try to make a recovery disk by myself, and use it to get rid of the password.
    c. Try to boot the computer with an external disk (somehow made), and then edit or backup the Windows partition.
I am not sure any of them will work.
    Any ideas will be appreciated!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If your friend has got a Late 2010 MacBook Air, the Mac came with a USB drive that contains Mac OS X Snow Leopard, to reset passwords, reinstall Mac OS X...
If he/she has got an older MacBook Air, he/she has got DVDs instead, and you need an external optical drive or a PC to be able to reset the password. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2129?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US After starting with the DVD, open Utilities menu > Password Reset, and follow the steps
If he/she lost the USB drive or DVDs, call Apple to get replacement DVDs or another USB drive > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

  • Can I buy a Macbook pro retina 13" with 16gb RAM and i7 processor in an physical Apple Store in Spain?

I´m looking a Macbook pro 13 inch, but I would buy it with an i7 processor and 16Gb ram. Can I buy it in a spanish physical Apple Store or only in the Apple Store online?
    Thanks

At least in Spain, some Apple Retail Stores have got specific build-to-order MacBooks Pro available, but they are just because they are sold better than any other build-to-order MacBook Pro.
However, as Kappy said, it's quite difficult you can get one with the configuration you want. Have a look at the list of Apple Retail Stores in Spain, choose one and call them to see if there's one available > http://www.apple.com/es/retail/storelist The best way to buy a build-to-order Mac is through Apple Online Store

  • 10.6, quicktime, and itunes on a macbook pro 2.53 w/ 4gb ram and ssd

    Hi,
I am experiencing something extremely weird, and extremely frustrating...
What I am experiencing is that after I've been using my system for a while, I will launch quicktime, and I will get the spinning ball forever.. If I launch iTunes it will just bounce on my dock forever and not launch.
Then I have to reboot, which is sometimes impossible to do, so I will have to manually tell my system to shutdown via the terminal.
When my mac reboots, everything is fine.. Quicktime launches, iTunes launches, happy world...
... So I thought it was perhaps something that I was doing (applications that I was running, websites I was visiting etc.), but now I have evidence that it's not. Which is even more confusing. Last night, a friend wanted me to pull up something on quicktime-- I got the spinning ball.. Said "ugh, I don't understand what is up with my system". Clicked restart.. It wouldn't restart.. lauched terminal.. sudo shutdown -h now... Ok.. it's off.. turn it on.. Launch quicktime.. hooray.. there's the video..
Ok-- That was the extent of me using my computer. I left it on after that for many hours.. and eventually closed the laptop.
In the morning, opened it up.. Clicked quicktime, and.. SPINNING BALL. Had to reboot.
so, the only thing I can think is that something is occurring inactivity, or sleep, something that is causing QT and iTunes to mess up... I tried doing various tests, but could not come up with anything. I tried just running my screensaver for a while, but quicktime still comes up no problem.
Very frustrating.. I want to know if anyone else is experiencing this, and if there are any suggestions for what I should do. I have zapped p-ram, I have repaired permissions...

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    1. That's a risk, and more in a MacBook Pro, that has got everything soldered except the hard drive and memory.
    2. If you want performance, buy a SSD. It will get the best performance but they are expensive, so you should consider the option to buy a SSD with a small capacity to store OS X and applications and an external disk for other data.
    3. SSDs are much better than hard disk drives because they haven't got mechanical parts. You will notice this difference in read and write tasks like a startup, that will be much faster. However, in other tasks, it doesn't mind if you have a HDD or a SSD, because performance depends on the processor and graphic card. Also, you will notice a difference with a 7200 rpm hard disk.
    4. You can take it to an Apple Store or reseller to see what they can do in order to repair your computer

  • Can Final Cut Pro 7 be run on the New MacBook Air

Can Final Cut Pro 7 be run on the New MacBook Air (just for looking at footage and assembling a rough cut) or is the graphics processing inadequate? Also wondering the same about Photoshop CS5 and Aperture 3.1.3.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

You can install on (1) Tower and (1) Laptop, as long as they are both used by you, and NOT at the same time.  This is for when you edit on your tower, but then need to edit at home, or on the road.  You cannot use one copy of FCP on multiple machines at the same time.  You need one copy for each machine you intend to use at the same time.

  • First Impressions: New MacBook Air 13" - 128GB HD - 2GB RAM

Thought I'd post some initial impressions here for those who are asking questions about memory, heat issues, noise, hinges, hard drive space etc.
This week I purchased the 13" MacBook Air, 128GB HD, 2GB RAM config in Apple Retail store. Ultimately a couple days later I ended up returning it and ordering the 2.13GHz upgrade, 256GB HD and 4GB RAM via Apple Store online. I'll tell you why at the end of this post.
    Initial impressions:
    - Gorgeous, well-designed machine. Feels great to use. Very solid.
    - I chose the 13" over the 11" because the resolution seemed slightly higher, it was easier on my eyes and the 11" tended to bounce a bit when used in my lap while the 13" did not.
    - I used Dropbox as my drive in the cloud for Documents, Photos and Videos (have been doing that for a while) as it allows you to get away with a smaller drive footprint.
    - I did NOT yet have MS Office installed.
    - For a mobile laptop, the new MBA cannot be beat. It's sleek and solid. No heat issues. Fan rarely came on if at all.
    - I was using about 38GB of the 128GB drive. So I was glad I did not buy the 64GB 11", although I really, really wanted to like that smaller one.
    - I installed a RAM monitoring app in it to see how much of the 2GB would be used under normal use (is there even such a thing anymore?). Without using MS Office, just surfing the web and using default OS apps, the lowest amount of RAM I had available was 700MB, so roughly 1.3GB was being used up in the worst scenarios. Despite this, it zipped along with multiple browser tabs open, uber-fast bootup and shutdown and really long battery life.
    - I appreciated the fact that the 13" has 2 hours longer battery life than the 11". Ultimately that 7 hours played a big factor in why I bought the 13" instead of the 11".
    - Bottom line? Definitely rate this a BUY. In spite of the omission of the backlit keyboard, it's a good machine; though I would NOT recommend it as a replacement for a MacBook Pro. It is a mobile computer. Fully functional, but I would not do heavy video editing or graphics work on it. For everything else it's superb and feels wonderful in your hands.
Why I ultimately took it back to the store.
I liked using it so much that I figured I may be using it more than my MacBook Pro, and as such wanted to max out the chip speed, RAM and HD space on it. Currently as of this post date you cannot get the higher performance MBAs in-store. You can only order them direct through Apple.
I ordered the 2.13GHz MBA with 4GB RAM and 256GB HD. It takes 2-3 bus days for them to configure it at Apple and another 2-3 bus days to ship to you so should get it next week.
For anyone considering buying this machine, I give it a strong thumbs up. For most users, the 13" 128GB and 2GB RAM should be fine. If you're looking to replace an existing MBP (wouldn't recommend it), you probably want to order through Apple and get the upgrades.
    HTH,
    Adam

After calling the customer service they told me I should receive before the 8 of November that makes 18 days!
Adam, that's nothing. When Apple introduced the liquid-cooled PM G5s, we had to wait over 2 months before Apple shipped them! They may halted production to fix the apparent video flaws a lot of people are experiencing. The longer you wait, the less chance you may get a lemon.

    Hi
I'm just about to start my second year of university and have a budget of £850 and was just wondering would Photoshop and Dreamweaver CS6 run on the stock MacBook Air 11" (2012) with 128gb and 4gb.

  • LEOPARD 10.5.1 - Macbook Pro 15" 2.4GHz 4GB ram - crashing, doesn't wake up

I've 2.4GHz 15" Macbook Pro with 4GB RAM and latest 10.5.1 LEOPARD. I'm getting very upset about the LEOPARD as it's not stable at all compared to Tiger. I've frequent crashes, see photo below.
As described in other topics on this forum, i have simultaneous problem with the laptop not waking up from a sleep mode. The screen is black and the keybord and poer button is unresponsive. I have to hold he power button to FORCE-shut down the computer.
I've done clean LEOPARD installation, not an upgrade.
LEOPARD is getting a lot of unwanted attention with all it's flaws - just google for it.
I was imagining that apple is working hard on this problem, but over the time i'm getting tired of this and although i love the new features i need a stable system - that's why i have MAC and windows!

It looks/sounds to me as if you have a problem with the "Hall Effect" switch which activates sleep when the computer is closed, MarukoDT.
THis isn't actually in the hinge, but is activated by a magnet in the lid when the computer is closed.
"Sleep Cause 5" is certainly closing the lid on my MBP under OSX 10.6.2.
In fact you can reproduce symptoms very similar to yours by simply placing an MBP13 on top of an older Polycarbonate MacBook. If you do this then the magnet in the MacBook activates the Hall effect switch in the MBP13 even when the MBP13's lid is open. Simply moving the computer off the MB will immediately allow it to wake. (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2917 for the Apple KB item on the matter. I've done this myself when sharing a power adaptor and was about to launch in to major "troubleshooting mode" when I remembered having read this article a few days earlier! )
So, assuming you don't have your MBP stacked on top of an MB, and don't work on top of of an MRI machine or other things with substantial magnets , I'd be thinking that it is a defective Hall Effect switch itself that is causing your woes. If so, it is a workshop warranty repair, I'm afraid.
(There are many other possible causes of sleep problems. Generally they involve issues with third party software or third party hardware, but your case is different. I no longer have the log files from my own accidental experiences of this when sitting the MBP on the MB, but from memory they actually looked very like yours.)
    Cheers
    Rod
