Can we take backup of external table using expdp

Can we take backup of external table using expdp, please suggest any doc.
thanks in advance.

@Fahd
About the ACCESS_METHOD parameter
-It's undocumented data pump parameter and it's should be used only when requested by Oracle Support
-It's purpose is to specify the loading/unloading method, not filtering object types during the export or import
-If this parameter is not specified, the Data Pump will automatically choose the best method to load or unload the data...
so,
the External Tables method
-Is used by the data pump if data cannot be moved in the default method to load/unload data ,
and that is direct path mode, or if there is a situation where parallel SQL can be used to speed up the data move even more

    Anyhelp wold be great......

Delete the user account, then use the "Erase Free Space" option in the Erase tab of Disk Utility to write zeroes to the drive. Stick with the "Fastest" method (one pass of zeroes) unless you're hiding secrets from the NSA - anything more stringent is a waste of time.

  • How can we take backup of all the RDL'S existing at Report server dynamically at one time

How can we take backup of all the RDL'S existing at Report server dynamically at one time ? I want to take backup of all the reports existing at the report server dynamically at one time only. currently I'm able to take backup of the reports folder wise
using VBScript. and I have to pass the folder names again and again. I want this to be happened for all the reports of all the folders at single shot only using VBScript.

    Hi DineshRemash,
Based on my research, we can store the following VB Script to a text file, then modify the file name extension from .txt to .rss.
Dim rootPath As String = "C:\Reports"
    Sub Main()
Dim items As CatalogItem() = _
    rs.ListChildren("/", true)
For Each item As CatalogItem in items
    If item.Type = ItemTypeEnum.Folder Then
    CreateDirectory(item.Path)
    Else If item.Type = ItemTypeEnum.Report Then
    SaveReport(item.Path)
    End If
    Next
    End Sub
    Sub CreateDirectory(path As String)
    path = GetLocalPath(path)
    System.IO.Directory.CreateDirectory(path)
    End Sub
    Sub SaveReport(reportName As String)
    Dim reportDefinition As Byte()
    Dim document As New System.Xml.XmlDocument()
    reportDefinition = rs.GetReportDefinition(reportName)
    Dim stream As New MemoryStream(reportDefinition)
    document.Load(stream)
    document.Save(GetLocalPath(reportName) + ".rdl")
    End Sub
Function GetLocalPath(rsPath As String) As String
    Return rootPath + rsPath.Replace("/", "\")
    End Function
Then navigate to the folder contains the script, we can directly run the below command from the run menu:
    rs -s
    http://aa/ ReportServer -i download.rss
We can modify the rootpath to point at whaterver fold you’d like to download the RDL files.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can we report on R/3 tables using SAP BO

How can we report on R/3 tables using SAP BO.
    Thanks

    Hi
you can use the CR Designer and build CR reports that access your R/3 system. Another option is to use the R/3 connector for the Data Federator which is available in the Innovation Center. Still this connector is not a product rather can be used on your own risk.
    Regards,
    Stratos
PS: Accessing directly the tables of the underlying database(e.g oracle)  using universes and Web Intelligence is not recommended. You will not be able to decode all contents of the database tables you are accessing since in some cases R/3 encodes the data before storing them in the actual database tables.

  • Problem with External Table using ORACLE_INTERNAL TYPE in 9i release 2

    Hi,
I have tried to create an external table in oracle 9i release 2 using the following qurey:
    CREATE TABLE emp_ext
    ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL
    ( TYPE ORACLE_INTERNAL
    DEFAULT DIRECTORY admin_dat_dir
    LOCATION(admin_dat_dir:'emp1.dmp')
    PARALLEL
    AS
    SELECT * from employees;
and getting the following error message
ORA-30657: operation not supported on external organized table
    Please help me.
    Thanks in Advance

As a matter of fact oracle 9i has two types of api for external tables one is oracle_loader and the other is oracle_internal which in 10g become oracle_datapump.
What my question is how can I use the other type in case of external table as we are doing in 10g? Do I need to run any script to enable this feature or is there any privillege issue?
I've given the read, write privillege to the user and the oracle user has read/write permission in os level on the location of the directory.

  • Can TC/TM backup AN External?

I want to move all my photos and music to an external HD.  Now, I have TC which I use for Time Machine to backup this MBP.  However, all photos and music will NOT be on the MBP, only an external.  So can TC or TM backup the actual external?  I dont want TM to backup TO the external but rather just backup what is on there?  I have seen some other discussions on this but thought I would bring it back up and see what I can do.  Thanks

    Yes.....IF
    1) The External drive is connected directly to the Mac
    2) The external drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    3) Backup of the external drive is enabled in Time Machine Preferences
Well all of these are Yes for me.  directly to MBP, formatted to OS, and how do I enable backup the external?

  • Backup to external drive using iTunes 8?

iTunes offers a new way to back up the iTunes library. I have 24000 tracks which would need 29 or so discs. I would prefer to use my external hard drive so how would I do this and what about backing up the incremental changes to my external hard drive?

Well....You can Use iTunes for Backing up your Music, but I do not favor this method.
It works fine for music files BUT: I prefer more control and completeness over my backup process. It is also very important to note that a large limitation of using iTunes to manage the backup is that the iTunes method does not create or maintain backups of the two meta-data files (iTunes Library.itl & iTunes Music Library.xml) where your Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. are stored. See: What are the iTunes Library files?. The iTunes backup process only allows one to use CD or DVD discs – somewhat limiting for large Libraries.
If you are heavily invested in your Library data (Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings, Last Played, Date Added, etc.), it is crucial that you also make and archive multiple backups of your ‘iTunes Library.itl’ file.
If your music is located under one common Folder (e.g.-‘iTunes’), then it is easiest to physically copy that folder and all its sub-folders in one simple process. It can be done quickly, and incrementally – several times a day, when necessary. In the case of any data loss, just re-copy your entire (or partial) music library back to wherever it was, placing it in the main Folder that the previous iTunes expected. Along with the ‘iTunes Library.itl’ metadata file, this completes a full ‘restore’ of your music to the time of your last backup.
Use of a backup software program will greatly help. It will allow you to easily perform incremental backups of only the files that have changed. WinXP has such a facility built-in. I use a free program called FileSync ( http://www.fileware.com ). There are many out there. Some use Zipped files or proprietary formats, others use standard file formats. I like FileSync as it uses normal file formats that can be viewed/managed via any Windows program or utility.
iTunes Files to Backup (anytime you make additions or changes to the Music or Library that you want to retain). These are usually located in and under the main “iTunes” folder typically found within your “My Music” folder. These include:
    1) All Music Files in their current folder structure (usually located in and under the ‘iTunes Music’ folder)
    2) All Application Files in their current folder structure (usually located in the ‘Mobile Applications’ folder)
    3) All Album Artwork Files in their current folder structure (usually located in and under the ‘Album Artwork’ folder)
    4) The Library database file: ‘iTunes Library.itl’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    5) The Library XML file: ‘iTunes Music Library.xml’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    6) The iTunes Library Extras.itdb and iTunes Library Genius.itdb files, also in the ‘iTunes’ folder
Some additional files to consider also include in a backup:
    7) Any XML playlist files created for Playlist retention
    8) The two iTunes.pref files (optional)
    i) C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    ii) C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref
    9) The XML file of Ratings, Play Counts and Last Played attributes saved from the main Library and created by Otto’s SaveRatings script (also optional, but recommended):
“Download this: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/SaveRatings.zip . It's a program, just run it like any other program. Run it on the machine where you're copying the info from BEFORE you move the files to the new machine. Click the "Save Ratings" button and it'll create a ratings.xml file. Now when you move the files, move the program and this file as well. Then after you make your new iTunes library, run it again and click the "Restore Ratings" button. Voila, all your information is back in the Library. Well, most of it anyway, it's not perfect. It'll tell you what songs it couldn't figure out though, and there's usually not very many.”
    10) The folder(s) used to store and sync photos to your iPhone (if applicable)
    11) The iTunes created Backup of your iPhone usually located at:
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Here's a list of possible ways to copy your music files from your main iTunes computer to another storage medium for backup purposes.
    1) Use an External Hard Drive to store the complete iTunes meta-data files and underlying Music Folder structure and songs from your main computer. They are quite cheap now, for their storage volume. This is my preferred main medium.
    2) If you have Two Computers:
2a) Connect them through a router
2b) Connect them using a Direct (w/Mac) or Crossover (PC/PC) Ethernet cable (See: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3001.html)
2c) Connect them via a USB-to-USB Network Bridge. See: here as an example.
Copy the files and folders from one computer to the other. Use the second PC as your backup repository.
    3) Burn several DVDs (at 4.7+ GBs each) with the music data files and store them safely. Re-writable ones are good for backup purposes (if your DVD drive can manage these).
    4) Burn 6x more on CDs (at 700MB each) than in #3 above and store them safely in more space. Re-writable ones are good for backup purposes (if your CD drive can manage these).
    5) Use a larger USB Flash drive (1GB – 4+GBs) to store the files only if you have a small amount ripped music or have multiple and/or jumbo USB drives at your disposal that will fit your music library.
    6) Use the Second Internal Hard Drive (if available) of your PC -- not optimum, as you really want to physically separate the storage of backups from the originals, but good as a tertiary storage device.
By keeping only one copy of your music (other than on the iPod), you are not truly 'backed-up' and are running a high risk of losing your music. Music files on just the iPod/iTouch/iPhone and the computer is not considered having any backup. If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod/iTouch/iPhone:
    a) One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
    b) One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
    c) One (full or partial) set on the iPod/iTouch/iPhone
It is a good policy to backup all your important data. It is a very smart policy to back it up on more than one medium.
External hard drives now run less than $100 for 500GBs-1TB of storage. Very cheap backup insurance, indeed. See This Link for ExHD Examples
    Best of Luck

  • Accessing The External Table using UIAPI and DIAPI

    Hi  Every One,
can any one tell me about , can we access the external table data  that is created by using sql query externally using UIApi and DIAPI
    Regards
    Srinivas

    Hi,
technically is it possible, but all inserts and updates have to be through query.
Note, that when you create tables from sdk, you can set more informations about fields than in sql query manager (for example subtype) - so you may have problem in binding data to matrix for example. So if you have table externally, you may work with, but this isn`t allowed by SAP (and I think that this case may be dangerous if you acces it in sdk). If you need to acces it on sql server side (own numbering, some stored procedure, ..) it will works safer, but it is not allowed as well.

  • Can we bind a single external table with multiple files in OWB 11g?

    Hi,
I wanted to ask if it is possible to bind an external table with multiple source files at same or different locations? Or an external table has to be bound to a single source file and a single location.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ann.

    Hi Ann,
Can you please help me out by telling me the steps to accomplish this. Right click on the external table in project tree, from the menu choose Configure,
then in opened Configuration Properties dialog window right clock on Data Files node and choose from menu Create -
you will get new record for file - specify Data File Name property
Also link from OWB user guide

  • External Tables using Discoverer

I am mapping the contents of a complex query to an external table. I am mapping the SUM() of each field to the external table. BUT... when I create a workbook using that complex folder, Discoverer correctly uses the external table but when I look at the actual query that is generated it performs a 'GROUP BY' on the the summary table (i.e my external table) prior to doing the query that I originally wanted.
This is different than if Discoverer was managing the summary table. A very simple example is:
    External Table Query
    SELECT
    SUM(alias_avar)
    FROM
    (select id, SUM(avar) alias_avar
    FROM
    summarytable
    group by id)
    Discoverer Managed
    Select SUM(avar) from summarytable
Thank you in advance for helping me with any ideas or workarounds.

Just a word...I have had NO LUCK with Oracle9i external tables accessing network drive with Windows Server 2003 spk1.
I have read all the tips from Metalink and forums and nothing that works on Windows 2000 or NT work for 2003..Has anyone had any luck with this?
UNC or mapped letters..The best I could do was GIVE EVERYPERMISSION and create a SUPER users with ALL groups and still then all external tables could do was move it to the error folder with a OS errors saying it could not open the file. I have the same setup locally and it opens fine.
In fact UNC was the only way I could even touch the files..mapped drive letter did nothing ...

  • External Tables using SYSDATE

It's possible to use the external table with SYSDATE? Here is the create external table syntax I am using and it's not working.
    create TABLE T_MASTER_EXT
    CUSTOMER_NAME          VARCHAR2(255),
    AUDIT_TIMESTAMP          DATE
    organization external
    type oracle_loader
    default directory MY_DIRECTORY
    access parameters
    records delimited by newline
    skip 1
    fields terminated by ','
    OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
    lrtrim
    missing field values are null
    (CUSTOMER_NAME,
    AUDIT_TIMESTAMP DATE SYSDATE))
    location ('customers.csv')
    reject limit unlimited;
    Thank you.
    H

Well, this discussion is rather academic since there is no facility to supply a virtual column with a default value of SYSDATE or anything else in an external table, but as I understand it "oracle_loader" external tables currently work like this:
    1. You issue a query against an external table
    2. The database starts an external loader process to open and read the file
    3. The loader process parses the file contents and returns the results to your query.
Possibly I have oversimplified, but I just don't see where "The SYSDATE changes when the table is written" comes in. What process is this?
    PS:
@VG - this thread would be a lot easier to read for those of us with small monitors if you could make that AskTom link a bit shorter ;)
