Can we talk?

Question

Sorry to keep beating a dead horse, but I'm still trying to figure out how to get a B/W G3, with 8.5OS, and a G5, with 10.4.11OS to communicate. These are 'work boxes' and I'm wiling to cough up the upgrade to 9.0, since corporate won't kick in, so that the two can talk to each other.
What I would like, since I'm ADD, is the simple; 1,2,3 steps to make that happen.
If anyone out there in cyberspace has the short answer, I'll send you, at my expense, an official Roswell, New Mexico Alien Look-Alike, for your collection, trophy case, whatever, just for an answer that works!
On another note, I'm also trying to figure out how to get my Mac box to talk to my PC box. It uses XP Professional and, because of my ADD, I can't seem to accomplish that, either. An extra alien for that answer, btw.

File Sharing via TCP/IP: -- print this out and use it like a recipe or write on it
7.5.3 and later can mount another Mac's files on its desktop via TCP/IP -- If you know the other Mac's IP Address, and you know an account and password on that Mac. Here's how:
On the Mac OS X Computer, be sure Personal File Sharing is ON:
System Preferences > Sharing > Services pane -- top item "Personal File Sharing" is Checked
On the OS 7.5.3 or later Computer:
1) Open the Chooser.
2) In the left panel, Click "AppleShare" Chooser Extension
3) At the bottom of the right panel, Click the "Server IP Address" button. \[the other computer is acting as a File Server.]
4) Enter the IP address of the \[Mac OS X] Computer whose files you want to share, like 192.168.0.105 -- (this will vary based on the addresses used at your installation).
5) You get a login Dialog Box. It is inviting you to log on the the \[Mac OS X] Computer by entering an account (and password) that already exists on the \[Mac OS X] Computer.
6) Enter the account and password correctly, and you may be given a list of all the Volumes you can mount. The list has all the Volumes you would be able to see if logged in directly (using that account). Click to choose the ones you want. Once you choose, the Volumes or subsets will mount on your OS 8.5 desktop as Network Volumes (Drive Icon with a cable protruding from the bottom).
7) Use the Finder to drag and drop whatever you want onto or off of those drives. It is a little slower than a Hard drive, but not a lot. \[If you had Gigabit Ethernet on each Mac, it would run at Hard Drive speeds.] You will get a window that shows the progress.
8) Try not to drag too much at once, the OS 8.5 Finder gets overloaded easily, and Mac OS X files (especially Applications) may appear as Folders with hundreds of files inside.
