Can website developed with iWeb be maintained on computer running windows

I offered to develop my son's school's website. I am a recent Mac convert and found that I really like iWeb. I was wondering if I could develop the site for the school, publish it to a host site and then let someone take over as webmaster. The webmaster would be using a simple HTML editor on a windows-based computer. Are the files iWeb produces compatible with any HTML editor?

Welcome to Apple Discussions,
iWeb produces HTML code which can indeed be edited using an HTML editor. In my opinion the HTML produced by iWeb is fairly complex and it would require a good amount of labor on the part of the webmaster to make any large scale changes to the website once it has been published. It would be much easier if they continued to use iWeb to maintain the site.
Before you invest the time in making a website that someone else is going to be in charge of maintaining, you might want to publish a simple page and then show it to the webmaster. They can then decide if they feel up to handling this type of code.
Cheers.

  • I just found out that Apple has ceased supporting iWeb!  I have a large (50  pages) website developed with iWeb and hosted through GoDaddy.  Is there information out there about how I can move my website pages to a supported app?

I just visited the Apple Store to investigate a new MacBook Air.  I found out that iWeb is no longer supported!!  I currently have a MacBook Pro that is less than 2 years old, running OS10.7.5.   I have a large website that I developed using iWeb (hosted by GoDaddy).  Does anyone know how I can migrate my 50+ pages to some new app?  Is there some new app?  Or will I have to start over from scratch? Ugh!!!  Thanx.

You can still use iWeb 3 to maintain your webiste.  Just copy the Domain.sites2 file from the your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on your MBP to the same folder on your MacBook Air.  Also copy the iWeb application from your MBP to the Applications folder on the MBA.
In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
If you want to learn about potential preplacements (which have been discussed extensively at length in this forum) do a search for  "iweb replacement".

  • How many website can I create with iWeb?

How many different webpages can I create with iWeb? I just created a site to show friends a slide show from a recent trip, but I need to create another webpage that will have video on it. It would be a totally different subject matter. I do have a .MAC account and not sure if I need to do anything with that so I can have more webpages.
I guess what I am saying is that I am going to need different URL's for the webpages I am going to need to create and want to know how many you can have or create using iWeb.

You can have multiple websites, each with multiple pages depending on the need. To make managing multiple sites easier, take a look at iWebSites. The limiting factor, as was pointed out, is the available space on your iDisk. I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.
    Do you Twango?

I got a chance to look at it on a PC.  Totally hosed up. It loads incorrectly then parts of it go blank.
I have a site that is based very much on one of the built-in templates and it works fine on the same PC.  It contains only text boxes, image placeholders, and images with "picture frame" borders.  Nothing fancy, no overlays, no extra code or anything. I haven't looked much at the other templates so I don't know if yours is mostly a template or how much you may have modified one or what tricks you may have done to get the look you wanted.  Whatever it is, IE does not like it.  Unfortunately, you can't really ignore them as was suggested; they make up a large part of your audience.

  • Indicative quality - what can be achieved with iWeb

A voluntary organisation I'm connected with wants to launch a site. We have some conflicting advice about how that should be achieved.
Can someone point me to a web site created on iweb ? What are the limitations of iWeb compared to others (say Dream weaver)

Be aware that iWeb hasn't received a major upgrade since Jan.'09 and its future is uncertain. Your voluntary organisation may appreciate the ability for several people to collaborate on the website. With iWeb you'll be restricted by its key Domain file and to using Macs. Alternatively, the free, web-based Weebly makes collaborating easy from any modern Mac or PC:

I'm not sure if iTunes is compatible with my computer operating system because when I try to install it, it says the installation is completed but it says there was an error so it won't let me get itunes! Can someone please tell me if iTunes can be downloaded and installed on "Windows 7 Home Premium" and if so, how?! I need iTunes asap, I have an iphone 4 running ios 6.1.3. Please get back to mee!!
    Thankyou thankyou thankyou!
    Natalie.

I just tried running the Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test both in normal mode and in safe mode.  Both times it indicated a failed read test on the HDD. The last two tests also failed.  I forget what those tests were called.
I am really beginning to think I have a bad HDD and the problem just happens to be in the reserved partition where my factory system software resides.

Snow is Intel only.  You could get Leopard 10.5 by purchasing a Retail (black) Disk off eBay or calling Apple Service and ordering one from them.  That would allow you to run Safai 5 and iTunes 10, I believe, but would lose Classic support in the process.

I have just changed over from a computer that was 11 years old, running Windows 98, to a new computer running Windows XP. With my old computer I could easily download video clips, they would open and play as soon as the download had ended. Now I have to click on the download box and click on "Play". Also, when I wanted to keep a clip, I just right clicked and a menu appeared and I would then click on "Save as" or similar. Now there doesn't appear to be any way to save the clips. Apart from a faster and more powerful computer I feel I've gone backwards. Can anyone help?

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.
