Can win7 and winxp share the same library?

I have a dual boot Dell pc.  XP and Win7.  iTunes on XP uses a lib on an external device defined as Drive M:.  iTunes on Win7 sees the same external device as drive N: and won't acknowledge the iTunes library.

See make a split library portable. You want the library files as well as media on the external drive. You should probably tweak things so that both systems use the same letter, but once the library is in the correct shape it should work regardless.

  • Can Bootcamp and Parallels share the same Windows applications and data?

I'm looking at getting an Intel iMac which will let me throw away my old PC - Yeah!
I will have a couple of Win apps that I will need to hang on to (Quicken - Quicken for Mac is horrible, but that's another tghread). Anyway, can Bootcamp and Parallels share the same Windows applications and data?
My thought would be to allow my wife to access Quicken from Parallels and not have to reboot. She will only need lightweight access and the overhead of running virtualization wouldn't impact her. I, on the other hand, would want to occasionally boot natively into Windows and run the same application with the same datafile. Is this possible?
Thanks and looking forward to joining the MacIntel world!

Thanks for all of the freplies. I suspected that BootCamp and Parallels could not shar ethe same partition, but wanted to verify. To address some of the other posts:
Re: Quicken vs MoneyDance - I looked at MoneyDance a while back and while it is comparable to Quicken for Mac, it isn't comparable to Quicken for Windows (ergo, Quicken for Mac isn't comparable to Quicken for Windows!). But, as I said, that is a topic for another thread!
Re: Using Bootcamp/Parallels for only one app: I actually have several apps that I still need access to on Windows. I work with many business applications than only run/are supported on Windows as well as receive some complex Office documents which Office for Mac cannot handle. Quicken (for Windows 2007) was just the best example of a consumer app where I could see wanting access from both OS X and Windows.

  • My sis and I share the same library for iTunes but when she tries to uncheck my songs and syncs hers, my songs are synced to her iPod still making her delete my songs. What can she do?

So my sis and I share the same iTunes library on the comp, and when ever she wants to sync her music, she unchecks all my songs. But once she unchecked my songs and syncs hers onto her iPod, my songs are there still. We've unchecked all my songs manually but my songs still sync onto her iPod. I want to know what to do because she ends up deleting my songs and when ever I wanna sync my songs, it takes me forever. PLEASE HELP ME GUYS!!

How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer
Simplest way is to create a New User Account for each of you...
Each user will then have their own iTunes library.

  • Can 2 apple ids share the same library..ie music, videos, apps ect

I have an apple id and my wife would like to get her own as well, but we would like to share the same library, music, apps, books, ect.  We are trying to avoid paying twice for same items but want our own id for ichat and personnel devices.  Is this possible and if so how can I do this?

If you want to share a single AppleID with a single iTunes Library, then simply sync both devices to that iTunes library using the same user account.
If you want to sync two AppleIDs to one iTunes library, in iTunes on the computer, login and authorize each AppleID, then sync the devices to that common iTunes library in the same user account.
You do not do anything on the device being sync'd itself - it all has to do with how iTunes that you are syncing to is set up and what AppleIDs are authorized there.  You can sync multiple devices to iTunes, just be sure that each device gets a unique device name in the iTunes sidebar.
To then use unique AppleIDs for iCloud and iMessage on a iOS device, first, make an iCloud account with the AppleID you want to use (go to http://www.iCloud.com), then set up that iCloud account on the device with that ID and password.  In iMessage, just log out with whatever AppleID you are using now, log in with the new AppleID and it will reauthorize, now linking that device with the new iMessage account just created with that AppleID (your iMessage primary account ID is always the AppleID used to initially create and verify the iMessage account).

  • Can multiple apple IDs share the same library on the same computer?

We have four devices using the same apple ID. Kind makes same time and messaging all messed up.  So I want to create a separate ID for my wife for her devices, but use the same library and applications. Is that possible?

Only if iTunes is using a "shared" folder for EVERY user's library under EVERY user account. Even then, you will probably encounter problems with "authorized" content for one account being unavailable for others.

  • Can two apple IDs share the same library?

Mac newbie here needs some advice...
I just got a new iMac and have created separate accounts for my husband and me on it.  We used to share an apple ID for music, but now I'd like for us to have our own apple IDs especially with the iCloud capabilities I don't want my iPhone stuff going to his Mac account, etc.  Problem is that all his music is in my library and he doesn't want to have to re-buy it again.  So I figured out that I can share my music library with his account on the iMac, and I have him signed in to iTunes with his separate Apple ID... good so far... but what's going to happen when he buys something?  Will it go into my library (as some sort of combined one), or into a separate one?
The other issue I encountered is that when I went to enable automatic synchronization across devices for him, I got a message saying that it was already logged in with another apple ID (I'm assuming it was referring to mine?).  That's not good.
I want us both to have totally separate IDs etc, especially for iCloud backups etc, but I wanted to be able to share music libraries.  Is that possible?  Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks!

  • Can iPhoto and Lightroom share the same master file?

I have loaded all my images into iPhoto. Lightroom cannot see the files until I made alias folders and placed them in Pictures. Now lightroom can see them. Lightroom is non destructive and should not damage the masters. Is that the same for iPhoto? Any problems in sharing the same master file?

I have 20k images that take up 100G. Eighty percent are JPEG and have already been edited. iPhoto seems ideal for this group. Kids and grandkids like to go down memory lane and this seems to be easy to navigate. The remaining 20% are mostly raw files and need editing. I already have Lightroom and had been using it in my old PC. I am new to modern Mac’s having changed over to PC from Mac 10 years ago. I loaded all my photo files to iPhoto not knowing that the master file was hidden.
Lightroom is a great editor. Almost all the advanced photographers in our club use Lightroom for 90% of their images. Ten % require layer capability so they use Photoshop CS5 or Elements. By the way there is now a layer plug in for Lightroom that works pretty well.
The work flow I envision, if possible, would be to enter new raw images into Lightroom and edit. The master raw images could go anywhere. Could they reside in the iPhoto master file? The export would be jpeg to iPhoto. For existing images I would use the iPhoto master list to import the 20% group to Lightroom. You don’t really import the images but borrow the image. The masters are never altered. When you export an edited jpeg, the master stays unaltered in it’s original file. Does iPhoto operate the same way.
I read where Lightroom jpeg images cause a problem for iPhoto. Still a problem?

  • CPO licensing - Can dev and prod share the same license ?

We have used the trial version for about 3month now for my dev VM, we have ordered server and license from cisco, but infortunately the server are not ready yet. Can I use the production license we bought on my dev VM and later on my production VM ?
    Thanks,
    Cendrine.

PO customer licenses are node locked to a specific server.  You will need a selarate license code for each system you stand up.  This includes trial extensions for customers.
When you install a fresh system, you get a trial license with the install which is good for 30 days after the initial install. Any licenses after that are node locked.

  • Aperture and iPhoto - sharing the same library? Synchornizing libraries?

    Hi,
I would like to ask if it is possible to either:
    1. Have Aperture and iPhoto share the same library.
    2. Have the edits on one reflect in the library of the other (if it isn't possible to simply "share" the same one).
    Thanks.
My major concerns that keep me from going to Aperture and forgetting iPhoto altogether are:
    a. iPhoto has nice sharing capabilities (with Facebook, email, etc.) which I am not sure Aperture will have.
    b. iPhoto has good iLife integration (slideshows with iTunes music, send to iMovie, etc.)
    c. my photos have tags in iPhoto that I'm not sure would transfer to Aperture if I did the "import" process...

    1. Have Aperture and iPhoto share the same library.
No. Th Aperture Library is a much more complex beast than the iPhoto one. The two apps can shar the same photos though.
    2. Have the edits on one reflect in the library of the other (if it isn't possible to simply "share" the same one).
No. Neither is an "external editor" like Elements. Importing is a once-off thing. Once you import a pic to Aperture it never references the iPhoto version again - and vice versa.
It's tempting to think of Aperture as some kind of "iPhoto Pro". It's not. It's an entirely different application. When you edit a pic in iPhoto the apps preserves your original file and creates an entirely new file - the modified version. When you edit a pic in Aperture that doesn't happen. Your edits are recorded in the database and +applied live+ when you view the pic in the Aperture window. This is a very different way of working and the principle reason why the two apps don't - and can't - read each other's Library.
    a. iPhoto has nice sharing capabilities (with Facebook, email, etc.) which I am not sure Aperture will have.
You can email from Aperture in exactly the same way as iPhoto. There is a Facebook exporter for Aperture (though, given what Facebook does to photos, I can't imagine why anyone would want one) and there are lots of other exporters available as well. Search on MacUpdate.
    b. iPhoto has good iLife integration (slideshows with iTunes music, send to iMovie, etc.)
Aperture can do the same - and in the same way - if you set it to share Previews with iLife and iWork in the Preferences
    c. my photos have tags in iPhoto that I'm not sure would transfer to Aperture if I did the "import" process...
    They will.
There are some differences: No Face and Places features in Aperture, Aperture won't deal with video at all, you cannot order postcards and calendars via Aperture and Slideshows are better on iPhoto. But if you share the Previews with iLife, then you can access any of these features you want via iPhoto.
The best thing to do is download the Aperture trial and experiment with it.
    Regards
    TD

  • My ipad imessages are coming up on my husband's iphone. Is that because we share an apple id account. How can we have separate apple id's and still share the same music library.

my ipad imessages are coming up on my husband's iphone. Is that because we share an apple id account. How can we have separate apple id's and still share the same music library.

The biggest problem I have is with cross texting. My friends send my a imessage on ipad to ipad and it comes up as message on my husband's phone as well as my ipad?
My friends definitely do not want my husband seeing their texts. (and I dont really need him to see my responses either)
Also, apple id is based on my email account, how do I create a new apple id without setting up a new email account?

  • Can two people share the same library?

I installed a new mac mini which we're planning on using as a media hub and as a machine to sync my iphone from.  I want to have a "Server" login on it just for itunes to run the backend for Apple TV.  However, I'd also like my itunes library on my "Personal" login.  Can I share the same library betwixt the two (if put into the Shared folder?) or do I have to set it up in my Personal and then share it to the Server login?  If I do that, don't I have to login to both and run itunes before it'll work?  I'd like to avoid anything like that because I travel often and want something my family can leave on and reboot easily while I'm away, without giving my kids access to my Personal login.

  • My wife and I share the same iTunes account.  How can I setup a separate account for her iPhone using my iMac?

My wife and I share the same iTunes account. How do I setup a separate account for her? Can I do it using my iMac?
    Thanks

Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Note: The essence of the above was created by user, randers4. I
have made substantial changes to improve readability and syntax.

  • Why do two iPods need to share the same library? Is there any way I can change it?

I owe one iPod and brought another today, and I just set up the other one. They're both the same model - iPod touch 8GB - and I've set the second one up. I've had the first one for some time, about an year, and I only bought another for a family member. I was wondering why do we need to share the same library and how can we change it. Help would be welcomed since we really like different kind of genres and we disagree on them, so we really really want to change this. I can't even say how much we need to change the setting. Thank you!

Sherlocked, There are a few ways you can solve that problem.
If you do want to share the same library, use the capabililty to "Sync Selected Playlists," so that each iPod will only get the music that its owner wants.
Alternatively, you can set up two separate libraries.  This is easiest if you use two different Windows user IDs on the computer.  Then each iPod owner can sync to his own library.
