Can Window users see iWeb pages???

I have published a couple of pages which perfectly show using Safari. Since I started using iWeb I get all kinds of complaints from people using Windows. Does anybody know how to deal with this? I already advised them to buy a Mac but that seems to go a step to far at least for the moment (-:

Without some specifics about the problem it is really hard for anyone to provide useful help. You might do a search of this forum on "windows" to see the many messages already posted on the various possible issues.

  • Links to site come up "can't find the iweb page you've requested..."

    hi-
i was able to successfully republish my updated website (thru mobile me). it was originally published thru .mac last year before .mac changed to mobile me. however, i noticed that my web address does not have "mobile me" in the title as in some of the other websites that i've check out on the boards here. i wonder if that's a problem because when i've e-mailed links (by dragging the address or even copy & paste) to my updated website, the links don't work. it goes to a mac page that says "we're sorry but we can't find the iWeb page you've requested..." however, if i go thru a search engine (entering the first couple words of my site title), the website comes up fine. also, if i type in the full address manually in an e-mail, the link works. the problem seems to be in the dragging of the address directly from the site. are these things related? my website address is: http://www.hale-o-lani-aloha.com. (feel free to critique the site if you have any opinions about it)
    thanks.

    Deona,
Here's another post that might prove useful to you, from the iWeb06 forum. This may help you in the future when you want to update your site:
Because your site is already up on the .Mac server, I would never engage in publishing the entire site again; unless, of course, you just rebuilt the whole thing. Note which pages you made changes to, and publish your site to a folder. Double-click this folder on your desktop, and open the window in column view. Navigate to the Page_files, and the Page.html.
With the Finder window open that is showing your site, Command+N. Another Finder window will open. In this window, navigate to the same files on your iDisk, again, using the Go menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/SiteFolder/Page_files(page.html)
From the iDisk Finder window, drag the Page_files/page.html of the pages that you made changes to to the trash. Now, from the other window, the window which shows your site in the published folder, drag these same files into the iDisk window, placing them in the same SiteFolder directory from which you dragged files to the trash. If you created a new page, you will need to also replace all other Page_files/page.html files which link to new page(s).
What you have just done is replace only the changed files. Because the .Mac slideshow assets are already uploaded, you should not have lost the .Mac slideshow for your photo's pages. Sometimes, it can even get simpler....as an example, I have a site that contains numerous .pdf files. With these, I don't even touch the Page_files/page.html files; I simple go into the Page_files folder and replace the old .pdf file with the new, updated one. Obviously the files are named exactly the same.
This is the best way for you to update your existing site on .Mac. You might also take a look at the ftp client, "Transmit". It works well with .Mac, with the exception that you must use the "Publish to a folder" command in iWeb.

  • But we can't find the iWeb page you've requested

    This is getting FRUSTRATING!
I have created my iWeb pages, clicked PUBLISH ALL TO .mac I get a CONGRATULATIONS message that it's loaded, I click VISIT SITE, and I get this bloody error message
"We're Sorry but we can't find the iWeb page you've requested" It's possible that:
    · The address was entered incorrectly. Check your spelling and try again.
    · The .Mac member of this name has either created a page and removed it or has never published an iWeb site.
    · There is no .Mac member of this name. If you'd like this member name for yourself, sign up for a .Mac account right now and have your own iWeb site in minutes.
Well, I don't know what the deal is. I have done everything I can think of, I am doing everything I am supposed to do! HELP!!!

Nope. Says does not exist. IT DOES! LOL... trust me.
    http://web.mac.com/kendles/iweb/Welcome.html
There is no site name between "iweb/" and "/Welcome.html, so that url can't be correct. What is the name of your site inside the iWeb app.

  • IE users see my pages all messed up

Started from scratch for our web page. Hosted the site and now most of the people that visit it cannot see half the content or its all mashed together. I have used the site http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/ to view the pages with my mac but it shows me the same thing my visitors see. Crap!!!
I have tried to start a new site and its the same thing. even using new templates (2.0) does the same thing.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work? Next step I guess is to go back to 1.1 or 1.0 themes.

It's usually the older IE versions that have problems. Here are some tips I've gathered in this forum for making sites more PC friendly.
1 - do not use and frames or borders, etc. around photos.
    2 - don't use any reflections.
3 - use only the web safe fonts from the Font pane.
4 - do not use drop shadow on fonts.
5 - turn off smart quotes
6- if you add a jpg to a page don't resize it in iWeb as that will cause it to be converted to png. Resize it to what you need before adding to the page. Then go into the Inspector/Metrics window and click on the Original size button. iWeb will resize any image no matter what size it is originally.
7 - make sure no items are touching or overlaping text boxes or images as that will cause them to be converted to a png file.
The above will reduce the number and size of files associated with a web page quite a bit. Photos with fancy frames and reflections can generate a thumbnail png of around 110KB whereas the plain version will be a jpg of only 28KB. Although it doesn't sound like a lot, it will speed up loading of the page and be more darkside (i.e. PC) friendly.
Run a test with a test site and publish to a folder. Then follow the hints above and publish to another folder and compare folders.
Firefox for Windows does a much better job of rendering iWeb pages. Some put a note on their page to that effect.

  • Can you transfer single iweb page b/t computers?

i know about the 'domain' file to move one iweb site from one computer to another, but is there a way to import one individual/single iweb page created on one computer into iweb on another computer?

I figured it out. Home sharing was not activated on the iMac, even though I could see both computers on each computer. I tried to transfer all my music from the iMac to my MacBook Pro before I wiped everything off the iMac, but couldn't figure it out. I with I knew that before I reformatted it. I do, however, however, have everything backed up on disks. iTunes is one of the most confusing programs I've ever used...

  • Can't edit my iWeb page

I have BIG BIG trouble with this web page. This is the web page:
    http://web.mac.com/mamafonz/iWeb/Site/Susan%20Gross%20Educational%20Workshops.ht ml
Each workshop has a contact person. But iWeb has fouled up the email address of each contact person.
For example, The December 4 workshop contact person is
    Beth Lillskau <[email protected]>
(The above was copied and pasted from my iWeb page.)
On my published web page, it says that Beth's email is <shannon@ ecentral.com>
The <shannon@ ecentral..> is the email of a workshop I did a couple of weeks ago. I deleted the information since the workshop is over. Somehow iWeb seems to want to keep old emails in like they were graphics or something!
This has happened all over the page! The emails of OTHER workshop contacts are listed with the wrong person's name.
I Web is making me crazy! Help! I need to constantly update this web page and iWeb just fouls it up.

For me it is correct. Your own browser is just seeing old stuff. Clear your cache.

  • Can AIM Users see my Current Tracks? Who uses Jabber?

I have a new macbook and use ichat. im using an AIM account to chat with friends. I like the feature with "Current iTunes Track" But can the people im talking to see it? I asked a friend if they could tell me and they said they couldnt when i was chatting with them.
and speaking of jabber...what is it? who uses it? can only jabber users see your current itunes song? :-p
    thanks!

I don't know if the current iTunes track status will work with people on AIM (i suspect it will for the people using iChat at least) as i wouldn't touch the AIM protocol with a barge-pole.
Jabber (which is called XMPP now that it has been ratified by the IETF) is the official standard protocol for Instant Messaging. It is an open standard that anyone can implement and, rather than one central provider like the proprietary IM providers, works on a distributed server basis. You can think of it kind of like email, but for IM.
XMPP usernames take the same form as email addresses, so [email protected] is the user "bert" on the XMPP server "example.org", and anyone can run a server if they so choose that will interoperate with all the other XMPP servers.
XMPP is the great hope of IM. Just as 20 years ago you were locked into only being able to email people using the same service provider as you, today you can only IM people on the same service as you. Then SMTP was invented and quite quickly all the providers started using it, allowing anyone to email anyone else. Eventually XMPP will achieve the same for IM.
Already, in the last 18 months or so, XMPP has really picked up pace. Google chose it as the base of their "Google Talk" (http://talk.google.com) service and linked it with their Gmail service (if you have a Gmail account you can set up iChat to use your corresponding Gtalk account), and LiveJournal recently set up their own IM service also using XMPP.
Millions of people, spread across thousands of servers, use XMPP. I'm one of them as i prefer to use non-proprietary, open protocols where possible (it also helps that XMPP is vastly superior to the closed protocols used by IM providers such as AIM, MSN and Yahoo).
The Current iTunes Track status works fine with XMPP (tested both in iChat and on the IM part of my Gmail account). iChat sets the status message to the current track rather than use the new XMPP standard for current track info, so it should work in any XMPP/Jabber client.

  • In the mail app why can't I see single page pdf attachment created by SSRS R2 on iPad with iOS 8?

We have reports that are generated using Sql Server Reporting Services 2008 R2 and are distributed to users by email as a PDF attachment.  This worked fine in iOS 7 but ever since users have updated to iOS 8 the single page PDF is missing even though it has the paper clip icon indicating there is an attachment with the email.  If the PDF is multiple pages then the PDF icon would appear but there seems to be a problem with the single page pdf that is embedded on the mail app in iOS 8.
We've recreated this issue creating a test report and sent it to iPads that have iOS 7, iOS 8 using different models of iPads (2, 3, 4) and the ones that have iOS 7 work fine.  Only the ones that have iOS 8 have this issue.  Also tried changing the format of the file to a PNG, TIFF and again the same results on the iPads with iOS 7 display it correctly.  Another test we did was send the PDF to our personal email and open it on our home iPads we were not able to see the single page PDF on iOS 8.  Looking at the headers of the email I can see the that the Content-Type is multipart/mixed.  When the original is forwarded to oneself on the iPad the attachment is included but the Content-Type is application/ms-tnef.

Can you check your email headers, I have also noticed this for reports that are generated using Sql Server Reporting Services 2008 R2. It could to be due to the Content-ID header I believe.
As a single page attachment on iPad will try and display inline, the Content_ID header is possibly affecting this and showing a small blank square as the image instead. Although this isn't defined as inline within the Content-Disposition header and will appear as an attachment on Outlook.

  • Windows users and iWeb

    Hey everyone,
I've been watching the threads pretty close the last few days hoping this would come up, but haven't seen it so far; has anyone figured out a way for folks using Windows PC's to post to a .Mac blog site? I really would like to create a family blog with iWeb but I'm the only Mac user...everyone else still has blinders on. Would iComment offer any solutions? I've seen some pretty impressive creations from you guys lately, so I know if it can be done, you can tell me how...Thanks

iComment would be useful to post comments to your blog, but not to add the posts themselves. Maybe you should be looking at the Groups feature of .Mac.

  • The web pages are not centered, they are way over to the right and so not only can I not see the page, I can't see the scroll bar or web address.

It is like the page shrinks up and moves way over to the right hand corner and I can't pull it back. I tried mini and maxi -ing the screen ... nothing works!!!
I cant' move the page down to see what the directions are for this box so I am typing this and hoping for the best. Sometimes the arrows will scroll down and other times not.

    Hi Mike ...
If you haven't tried a different DNS, OpenDNS may help.
Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, includes anti phishing filters, prevents browser redirects, it's free and Apple suggests it here >  Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
    Then click OK.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
Mike, empty the Safari cache more often. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache

  • Seeing iweb pages using Explorer 7

I work for a university in which the majority of students, faculty and staff use PC's not to mention Internet Explorer 7. I've developed a website using iweb, and unfortunately all of the images, buttons, links are showing up with a small "x" in the upper left hand corner and everything has a think gray box around it like a border. This only happens when using Explorer 7. Is there a way to fix this?

I just went through two days and three calls to different tech crews on a site I had purchased hosting space on. I had originally built my site on a Unix server site using iWeb. Everything worked fine and it could be viewed easily by most browsers, all Mac formats and Explorer browsers on Windows machines. I switched to the web hosting, domain name site which uses Linex servers and uploaded my iWeb site publishing folders. Explorer browsers on Windows machines could no longer open my site to any reasonable extent (no graphics, minimal text,no functioning links). All Mac formats, Fire Fox, Mozilla all still worked fine( the Exlplorer browser on my Mac accessed it fine but I was told that my Macs operating system was aiding it). I don't know how to write or correct code as was suggested by some of the techs, in fact that is why I purchased this software. I am pleased with the way it enabled me to build a site but if I can't be accessed by Explorer browsers it is very limiting.

  • Data Audit is Enabled, why can't users see Cell History in Grids?

As an Administrator I can right click on input data in a grid and select "Cell History" telling me who and when entered data. Our users at Head Office are not able to do the same. They are provisioned to be power users with all entity security but cannot see the audit trail for data entered by their divisional users. Is there a security setting which will enable them to do this?

We are on HFM version 9.3.1 and our users can see cell history in a Grid.
The trick is that you must be at the base POV level where the data was entered.
For example Value must be <Entity Currency>
If it is not an ICP account then it must be ICP None
It must be a base account
It must be a base entity
Any custom dimensions must be at None if they are not used or at the exact value it was enterd/loaded to.

  • Web browser can not find my iweb page

    Hi there,
I need some help. I published my website onto the internet, and for a while it was accessible. But since I have my own domain name, I am unable to view it on the web. Every-time I try to view my web-page an error message appears saying "safari cant open the page because it can't find the server"
Please could somebody help me because I really need it to work!
    Thanks alot!

    Tom,
I'm having a similar problem to the one below. MM is hosting my website through a personal domain name (Doteasy is the domain provider). The url of my site is www.saginor.com. The mobile me version is http://web.me.com/shiplair. When I type into my browser http://web.me.com/shiplair/Saginor.com I get to the site. But when I simply type in saginor.com I get the message, "Safari cant open the page because it can't find the server". I tried the suggestions you gave below and none worked. I also checked with my domain provider, and the forward destination is indeed listed as http://web.me.com/shiplair. I checked the settings in my MM account and the domain is indeed listed as www.saginor.com. Then I tried "publish all to mobile me" in iweb. It didn't work. I hope this is enough information for you to offer a fresh perspective. Many thanks in advance for your help. --Shiplair

  • How can I recover my iweb pages from idisk?

    Hello Everyone! Need your help!
I recently had to restore my system and completely forgot to make a seperate file to store my iweb. I found a copy of everything on my idisk but can not figure out how to get it back to iweb. Any ideas? Please help! Fairly new Mac user.....
    Thanks!
    Kay

Basically, you won't ever find a way to do it because iWeb cannot import the files stored on your iDisk. iWeb is not an html editor.
You are looking at re-building your site, although you can use what is on iDisk to cut and paste.
