Can windows Vista use TC for backup

I have two macs using TC and I also have a windows Vista laptop I would also like to get on time machine for backup. I can get on the drive to store files and get files but I can't get it to show up as a valid drive on the network for my backup software on Vista. Any help would be awsome.

Follow the advice found here for "mounting by mapping a network drive". Then just point your backup software to the drive letter you mapped the Time Capsule to.

I am using MS Office 2010 and Windows XP Professional, can I use iCloud for backup of my files and documents? I am planning to transition to a Mac so using the iCloud seems to make the most sence.

No, it is not a backup method at all.  If you delete a sync'd file on any device, you delete it permanently from iCloud.  That by its very essence is not a backup solution therefore.  A backup solution does not automatically and simultaneiously delete the file everywhere when it is deleted from the original source.
iCloud is strictly a syncronization tool for using files on multiple internet connected devices.

Can Windows XP use a different sound card for itunes - I want to use a sound card for itunes and another for all ther apps

To the best of my knowledge, Windows is not capable of setting a specific sound card based on the app being used, it's all or nothing.
Try a google search or search the Microsoft site.

Can I use iCloud for backup?

To back up all your data you are better off getting an external hard drive.  For details on iCould, read: http://www.apple.com/icloud/.

  • I have 2 auxillary disk drives for my MacBokk Pro. Time Machine uses one for backup and I use the other for storage, but I am unable to create a new folder or drag and drop files or folders to the aux drive.

I am unable to create a new folder on either of my auxillary disk drives.  I can access the files and folders that were there when I transferred one of the drives from a PC.  Time machine uses one for backup and I want to use the other to store photos which are large files.  An help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply.  If I reformat the drive will I be able to access the files on it from the MAC.  I do not share the drive with a PC.  The files were originally created on a PC which I no longer use.  I do want to continue to access the files put there by the PC.  I would like to not have to copy them over to the MAC hard drive just to use them.  The second aux drive is new and works fine because it was formatted by the MAC.  I can drag and drop files there and work with just as if they were on the internal drive.

  • Installing Windows vista using boot camp..

I am trying to isntall windows vista using the boot camp and it says IMPORTANT: back up your disk before partitioning it or installing windows. I'm not quite sure on what that means or if i should continue in the boot camp because I don't know what that means......

*"I'm not quite sure on what that means"*
It means just what it says... backup your files prior to installing Boot Camp...in the event something goes wrong.

  • Can two computers use the same backup??

I restored a seperate Macbook pro from the Time machine backup of MY Macbook. So I have two computers operating from the same backup. Is that recommended??

Yes, it should do. Once you change the name of the computer make sure you reset TM
    See A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
When you start the backup it will create a new sparsebundle.. (like a virtual disk that holds the backup on network drives) and you will be able to check that it is correct because it should be a new full backup.
Then you can do a full backup of one of the machines.. the other machine can continue to use the original backup.

  • What are Parameters? How are they differenet from Variables? Why can't we use variables for passing data from one sequnece to another? What is the advantage of using Parameters instead of Variables?

    Hi All,
I am new to TestStand. Still in the process of learning it.
What are Parameters? How are they differenet from Variables? Why can't we use variables for passing data from one sequnece to another? What is the advantage of using Parameters instead of Variables?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
Using the Parameters is the correct method to pass data into and out of a sub sequence. You assign your data to be passed into or out of a Sequence when you are in the Edit Sequence Call dialog and in the Sequence Parameter list.

will my mac back up to time machine wile it is on but shut (asleep) and can you set a time for backups???

If your Mac Model supports POWERNAP under Mountain Lion, yes backups and software updates can occur while the mac is taking a power nap (kind of light sleep).

  • Why can't I use iDisk for a back-up disk for Time Capsule?

    G'Day All,
I am new to apple and mostly am loving it! Being new to this product has me asking some basic questions, like ... why can't I use iDisk for a back-up disk for Time Capsule?
Here I have something like 20 gb disk space available, but it seems I need to buy an external hard drive (or an airport) in order to use, what I believe is one of apples greatest inventions, the Time Machine...
Can anyone correct my flawed understanding or, better yet, teach me how to do it properly?
    Cheers
    Gabriel

Speed makes sense, but I thought I had plenty of size available ... never mind! Looking over some of the other posts, it looks as though I'd be better off with an external Hard drive than the Apple Time Capsule (if I want more than 12-18months service).
That was true of some of the ones made a couple of years ago (many of which Apple replaced way beyond the warranty period, and even some beyond the 3-year AppleCare period). Presumably Apple has fixed the power supply problem in the newer units, so they'll last longer.
If you don't have AppleCare for your Mac, I'd strongly suggest buying it. If you do, and buy a TimeCapsule, Airport, or other accessory within 2 years, it's covered, too.
But unless you need a wireless router, yes, paying for one in a Time Capsule doesn't make sense. A good external HD is a much better buy.
thank you for the links - I am still getting used to the way Apples work ...

Why can't I use iCloud for exchange of data - like I could with MobileMe?
Oder auf Deutsch, warum kann ich keine Daten mehr in iCloud speichern bzw. zum Austausch bereitstellen, wie das bei MobileMe noch ging?
    Danke für die Hilfe
    Thanx in advance!

The purpose of iCloud is to sync data between your devices.
There is no "web address" to your files and no way to "share" them with others (except photos).

Btinternet being your internet service provider? If I'm correct, have you followed their directions:

    Hello,
I have an HP Pavilion a1210n running Windows Vista 32bit. I'm missing the audio drivers and can't seem to find them. Can you point me to a link for these drivers?
    Thanks, It's much appricieated!

I found this link but it doesn't talk about audio drivers in the multimedia package. Am I missing something? Does Vista need to have all OS updates installed for this to work?
    Thanks again!
