Can WLC2504 manage AP in remote networks?

Hi all,
I've just got a technical question. I'm just wondering if it could be possible to use WLC2504 to manage AP that are on a remote networks, ie they are behind a WAN link and behind a router. Let me explain myself bettter. This is what I'm trying to achive; in the Head Office I'm thinking of installing the WLC2504 to manage 5-locally-installed AP (with its appropriate Guest VLAN and Corp VLAN), then on the other two branches install another 5 APs respectively (with same schema Guest VLAN and Corp VLAN, needeles to say with different IPs).
Obviously, all 3 sites are connected using a WAN private network (all networks are routable) so my question is; could the APs installed on the remote branches talk to the WLC installed at the HO and register to grab their configuration? From what I've seen in all documentation is that WCL2504 can only talk to APs installed whithin same premises, ie only inter VLAN traffic and not traversing WAN links/routers.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Cheers

Hi Leo,
Thank you so much for your quick reply!
One last question. Do you know if WCL 2504 supports FlexConnect for AP1602I? I've found contradictory information.
This one says it does support FlexConnect for 1602I (when using WLC 5500)
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/5500-series-wireless-controllers/112042-technote-product-00.html
The link you posted doesn't mention AP 1600s to be supported
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/7-2/configuration/guide/cg/cg_flexconnect.html
And the datasheet for AP1600s doesn't especifillay say that FlexConnect is supported.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-1600-series/data_sheet_c78-715702.html
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/technology/apdeploy/Cisco_Aironet.html
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/1600/quick/guide/ap1600getstart.html#wp37338
So my question is...can I use FlexConnect with WLC2504 and Aironet AP1602I?
Thanks in advance

    Hi SHzKhan,
According to your error message, we need to verify if you configure the MSDTC correctly, When you have more than one SQL Server involved in a Distributed Transaction, you need to make some changes to the default configuration of MSDTC for these distributed
transactions to succeed. There is a detail about recommending MSDTC settings for using Distributed Transactions in SQL Server, you can review the following article.

  • Can I manage my parents MB from my computer using ARD. Even though they are on different networks

Can I manage my parents MB from my computer using ARD. Even though they are on different networks?>

When you say a diffrent network, do you mean accessing the computer over the internet?
VNC is built into the computer, so you don't need ARD to remote into a computer. To access your parents computer over the internet will most likely require configuring their router/firewall. And unless they're paying for a static ip, you'll also need some way to track their computer.
    OR
you can use logmein, or teamviewer. Both programs are desgined to access a computer over the internet. Most of the time they don't require re-configuring the firewall.

  • Can I enable "Use default gateway on remote network" on VPN connection using Group Policy?

    Hi,
First timer here so please bear with me!
Environment: Domain Windows 2003, Clients: Windows 7 and Windows XP (with Client Side Extensions pushed out)
When creating a VPN connection on a client machine manually with default settings the "Use default gateway on remote network" found in [Connection Properties - Networking - IPv4 - Advanced] is enabled, which is good as we don't allow split-tunneling.
I have a test GPO that creates a new VPN Connection [Computer Config - Preferences - Control Panel - Network Options], but the above setting is unticked.
Am I missing something on the options for the GP preference to set this automtically?
I can write a script to directly change the C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk\rasphone.pbk file but would prefer if I could sort it all out using Group Policy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks a lot!
    David

    Shane,
There is actually a way to set the "Use default gateway on remote network" through Group Policy Preferences. And this may even be a better way to do it, because you may change this flag without touching any other settings, or other VPN connections.
(All VPN connections are stored in the same .pbk file.)
Here's the trick: Opening the .pbk file in notepad, I realized that this is actually an oldstyle ini-structured file. And Group Policy Preferences can update ini files! In the .pbk file the section names are the VPN connections names, like [My VPN],
and the property IpPrioritizeRemote is the flag "Use default gateway on remote network".
So, in Group Policy Management Editor, go to Preferences / Windows Settings / Ini Files.
Create a new object with Action = Update, and File Path =
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Network\Connections\pbk\rasphone.pbk
(If this is where your file is located, I guess it is in c:\users if the VPN connection is made for a single user.)
Section Name should be the display name of your VPN connection, without the brackets.
    Property Name = IpPrioritizeRemote
    Property Value = 1

    Peter :-)
This is great, but just one question. I also want to append a list of DNS Sufixes in order (when viewing a VPN properties, this is buried in
"Networking --> IPv4/6 --> Advanced --> DNS --> Append these DNS Suffixes (in order)". However, for the VPNs I have manually created with this list populated, I can't see any entries in the rasphone.pbk. Does anyone know
    where these are stored?
    Cheers.

  • How to manage dell-2816 switch from remote network..?

    Hi,
According to below diagram how can i manage the dell-2816 switch from other network. It has management ip only worked on default vlan and default vlan is not editable also not routed ,we can only access the switch to connect laptop directly to switch port and if the port has default-vlan id-1 .
switch to switch trunk doing problem but when using the pvid as a access vlan ID then trunk is working between dell to juniper hope so cisco also work. But the major issue is remote manageability and also snmp , If switch does not getting ping from remotely then how the snmp will work ..?
    Thanks
    Mamdud
<ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed per privacy policy>

You would need a layer 3 device on the network that would route between the different networks/VLANs. Without a device performing VLAN routing, your only other option is to be on the VLAN 1 network.
If you have a client with dual nic ports, you may be able to assign 1 port the VLAN 1 network. The other port would be on the network with the rest of the devices.

    Hi all,
We have been installing Cisco ASA5505 to hook our systems and remote offices together.  Our first install went great, and I can scan the remote network no problem, this network is setup using the site to site VPN setup.
Since then we have added 3 more ASA5505 so the the mix, these are not running via the Site to Site VPN but are rather using the EZVPN.
On the Remote ASAs using EasyVPN, I cannot scan the networks with ARD or even Ping.
I am wondering if anyone has any insights on this?  I know this info is a bit sketchy...
I will post more as I get it.

  • Cisco VPN client can't ping remote network.

I have recently installed a Cisco 5505 and have problems with some of the Cisco VPN Hosts I connect to using the Cisco VPN dialer. The Cisco Dialer connects fine but I am unable to connect to any computers on the remote network.
I have tracked the issue down to the ones that work & the ones that don't. If the remote Cisco is on the same sub-net as the computers I am connecting to it works fine. If the remote Cisco is on a differant sub-net then the computer I am trying to connect to it won't work unless I set up a static nat for a given pc on my network.
When I run through the dynamic Nat for my network I get the following error on the 5505.
regular translation creation failed for protocol 50 src inside:192.168.97.215 dst outside:xx.xxx.xx.xxx
I have been trying to find a solution to this issue ever since I installed the router and have not had any luck with any of the suggestions I have found on the Web. I have attached my config.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Mike

    Thanks for your response.
Yes that exactly the setup we are trying to get to work.
I have a call into them now and will check on their set up but I have no control over how they configure their routers I can only make requests.
I was hoping there was something causing it on my side as I deal with Hospitals and they can get very picky about their security.
I guess what is confusing me is it works if it goes through a Static Nat but not if it runs through our dynamic Nat.

  • Apple TV 1st Gen can no longer connect to wireless networks

My Apple TV (1st Gen) has recently lost the ability to connect to either of our wireless networks at home.  I rean the diagnostics at the reset screen and the Apple TV says it is performing normally.  In the settings, whenever I attempt to connect to a wireless network, I am now only offered "Other..." as a choice. Proceeding to the next screen, I enter the name of the network closest to the Apple TV -- an Airport Extreme set up for 5 GHz that this Apple TV connected with daily up until 2 days ago.  The Airport base station is perfoming normally, as my MacBook Pro can see it and establish a network connection without any difficulty.  The issue is limited to the Apple TV.  I did a Factory Restore, and now when I go to Wireless Network > "Other..." > Enter the name of the wireless network"  the resuit is always the same, and error message stating: "There was a problem connecting to the network. Check your settings and try again. (-4)".
This message comes up almost immediately, without requesting a WiFi password -- suggesting to me that this Apple TV has lost the ability to connect to ANY wireless network due to a hardware failure.
Q: Has anyone else in the Support Community had a similar experience with their 1st Gen Apple TV, and if so, did you find a solution to it?
Note: When I first noticed the connction to this Apple TV had gone stale (greyed out in the iTunes Airplay Speakers list), and prior to doing the Factory Restore, I could play back iTunes content stored on the hard drive, but could not connect to the local wireless networks.  I noticed that the Apple TV was running very hot -- it has alwasy run pretty hot to the touch.
If this Apple TV has died, I will get a 3rd Gen Apple TV, but wiill then have to work through the HDMI to Composite video + Audio issues, as this Apple TV is connected to our older (non-HDMI) TV.

Follow-up:  Able to connect with ethernet cable, downloaded software updates, connected to iTunes, and synchec content.
Next, disconnected the ethernet cable.  ATV1 froze and was restarted using the Menu + ( - ) combo on the remote.  Re-ran diagnostics yeilds: Apple TV is working fine.
Restarted, then went to configure the Wirelss settings.   Apple TV once again does not show either of the two wireless networks.  Selecting "Other..." and entering the SSID yields the same immediate response:
"There was a problem connecting to the network. Check your settings and try again. (-4)"
No change on the wireless front :-(   Bummer.
Looks like an ethernet connection is the only option left to continue using this Apple TV 1st Gen.
Thanks for your help. -- Paul

Hello i am using TimeMachine to back-up entire Mac image (data + system) on an usb-local drive. I would like (on top of it) add a specific plan to back up some files on a remote network drive. Does TimeMachine support multiple back-up plans ? How ?

Time Machine is capable of backing up to multiple locations, and can be used to back up to both a local hard drive and a networked drive (provided that that drive is in or connected to a Time Capsule or another Mac that is sharing it over the network). The catch, though, is that you can't specify different things to back up to different destinations. Whatever you exclude from Time Machine backups is excluded from ALL backups, and whatever is included is included on all.
So, get a large enough drive that you can back up everything you want in all locations, or use something else for maintaining the network backup.
More information on these topics can be found here:

the message at the log on screen about "The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Services is currently busy. Please try again in a few minutes. Other users should still be able to log on."
Now, nobody can't remote with administrator user into this server. I have check the application log. I found the error message like this.

In addition, I can log on this server with other user but I can't log off by it's showing the message "please wait for the system Event Notification service". Normally, the problem can solve by reboot the server. But how can be solve this problem
by we do not reboot the server?

    Hi,
The cause of unable to remote back to the server seems to be services hung, please try to reset session as the article below guides to see if it works:

If the issue can always be re-produced, then I would suggest you fully patch the system.
