Can WRT54G connect 2 XP laptops with different wireless cards, i.e. b and g,?

My WRT54G router works fine with a lenovo windows laptop (Intel wireless 3945ABG card) and my dell linux box but it is not accepting my old T40 laptop which has a dual-band wireless a/b card.   The WRT54G box indicates this router accepts both b and g wireless cards.
Question is can this router simultaneously hookup these 2 laptops  or do I have to resetup the router in order for it to work on the T40?
as it is now, the wireless network shows on my T40 and it appears to 'take' the access key i input but then the T40 just 'hangs' trying to get into that network.   I have set the encryption key on the router to WPA. and i want to keep this.

Make sure the computer that can't connect has DHCP enabled, Update the computer wireless card drivers, Check that the security you entered is correct.

[Solved] Communicating with nearby laptop with just wireless cards

Is there a way to communicate (e.g. exchange files) between a laptop with a wireless card and a nearby laptop that also has a wireless card, when there is no router nearby? Can two laptops with wireless cards communicate with each other without needing another device?

Can't connect HP laptop with Airport Express

My gov't agency has just allowed employees to connect to its intranet through wireless connections. I have an Airport Express which I use for my MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad. No problems. The work computer is an HP laptop running Windows. I contacted our tech support and they didn't know what to do and suggested that it may be an Apple problem and that the AirPort will not connect to non-Apple devices. Is this true? Do I need to buy a new wireless router? Anyone with any suggestions on what I can do to get the AirPort to work?

All wireless routers must adhere to the same standards for wireless networks, so there is nothing unique about the wireless network that the AirPort Express is creating. Visiting relatives have no trouble connecting their PCs to the Apple wireless network here at the house.
Chances are, the Windows Firewall or anti-virus applicaton on the HP may be blocking the attempted connection as a security measure.
As a last resort, you could also try reducing the security level on the AirPort Express in case the HP is not able to connect to the most secure wireless networks.
To do this from your MacBook.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utiltiies > AirPort Utility
Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab located below the row of icons
Change the Security setting to WPA/WPA2 Personal
Click Update at the lower right and wait 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart

Be careful. Make sure your laptop's DVI output is a dual-link DVI output. Otherwise it won't work correctly with the 27" through any adapter.

I subscribed iTunes Match in the hopes that I could combine my two libraries remotely. Essentially I have two awesome collections of music, one at work and one at home. I wanted to be able to access my work tunes from my library at home, and vice versa if possible as well as from my iphone. Now that I've activated match on my work comp though, is it going to wipe out my library at home once I connect to match from my personal mac? I'm wondering if this will happen because when I associated my iphone with match, it told me it was going to replace my iphone music library with the match (work) library. As Homesharing allows you to stream contents to your Apple Tv only if you have the file available in your itunes Library and both the computer and Apple Tv is connected to the Same Network and Home Sharing with Same Apple Id.

Can't connect to internet with new wireless n "Extreme" modem

I've had a D-Link DI-604 router for about 4 years-- and wanted to go wireless with an Apple Extreme but first have borrowed my neighbor's D-Link DIR-635 to just see if this will work in my brick house etc. (3 stories, lots of cement and brick...)
Well I get as far as the 192.168.0.1 and then "clone" my MAC address (nothing to do with a Macintosh that...). Note: I was using the same computer to connect to the internet as I previously had used with the D-Link DI-604.
I also give a manual (easy-to-remember) 5-letter password to my wireless connection--
But although this "reboots" the modem, it does NOT let me connect to the internet...
So I'm back to my D-Link 604 cable (wired) only...
One thing the set-up asked for is my HOST name. The only thing I see in the Network System Preferences is an ethernet number: 00:16:cb:cd:6c:3e but I don't find a "HOST" name-- and is that really needed? (In Belgium I'm using an ISP provider "VOO")
Any comments really appreciated-- I could actually see a fairly strong signal from the wireless router (I named it "SteveHermee" and I could see strong bands even from the top floor, with router in the basement...)-- but I could never connect to the internet via CABLE (wired) or wireless.

I just purchased a GT MAX 3.6 Express LaptopConnect Card from AT&T to allow mobile internet access. While I can connect to the internet, the speed is very slow (I'm getting 3 of 7 bars). I understand there might be a Mac "booster" I can purchase. Has anyone heard of such a thing? Or, do you know how I can improve my download speeds with a wireless card? I received M Q today. To my surprise, there is no way to connect M Q to PB or any computer. I called Verizon and talked with their data connect department. They confirmed that M Q cannot be used as a modem The only device that will is Treo 700p. I am returning the unit by FedEx today. Treo is xpensive. So I will downgrade from MBP to PB G4 15" and use Verizon's Broadband Wireless PCMCIA card

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
Read up the issue.

I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

HELP! Can't connect on 2 or more wireless connection

I have WRT110 Linksys wireless router. I also have the latest firmware. fw 1.0.04. I have no problems connecting wired connections(2 PCs) and 1 wireless connection. However, when i tried connecting 2 or more wireless connections(3 laptops). All computers gets disconnected. I need to turn off the router again and my computers to get connected but only 2 PCs and 1 wireless laptop... Any help please! I already talked to tech support and no help! We tried to power cycle, reset for 30 secs, remove adapter, cables, etc. and didn't help! Same results! Can't connect on 2 or more wireless connections. We edited the basic wireless setting to WEP/WPA personal, band, channels, still no luck too! Im getting frustrated with this router. PLEASE HELP! I have Time Warner Road Runner cable internet. Turn router off then on Try turning your wireless router off then back on.
Change or turn off wireless security You may want to try toggling the settings on your wireless router, switching from WPA to WEP or vice versa, or, as a last resort, turning wireless security off altogether. For other routers, this can usually be accomplished by accessing the router’s configuration page — open a browser and enter the address 192.168.1.1.
Reset network settings on iPad. On your iPad, open Settings, then navigate to “General” in the left-hand pane. Scroll down and tap Reset, then select “Reset Network Settings.” This will delete any stored WiFi passwords and other information, but may result in a more stable connection.
Adjust brightness upward. Oddly, a number of users have found that they can resolve this issue by simply adjusting the iPad’s brightness level upward and off the lowest setting. To do this, tap Settings, then select “Brightness & Wallpaper” from the left-hand pane. Slide the brightness bar upward, then wait 1-2 minutes and check for an improvement in signal strength. Speculation holds that a power delivery issue associated with the screen brightness affects Wi-Fi.
Change thresholds in router settings. Access your routers configuration screen (for most routers, open a browser and enter the address 192.168.1.1), then change the fragmentation threshold and the CTS/RTS threshold as described here. (Actually, two people share a laptop, but one of us cannot use her AIM account cuz mine is in iChat already... And, when traveling, I have the computer - and I would like to use iChat on the computer...)

In iChat 4 you can have more than one AIM Valid name logged in at once.
AIM valid = AIM, @mac.com or a MobileMe name.
What you are then stuck with is that iChat is linked to one Buddy Picture and The one Mac User Account's Address Book which may or may not have Full Names, emails details, or a Nickname in iChat 4 linked to the Screen Names.
Whilst it does let you both log in whilst using one Mac User Account there are drawbacks about who uses the keyboard and reading meesages from the other persons Buddies.

I can't connect my laptop windows to the internet sharing a network

Hi. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I set up airport express on my imac g5 so I can use our windows xp laptop to share access to the internet. I have a wireless connection for our laptop (a Belkin wireless notebook card-802.11gg). The laptop recognizes the wireless network on the imac (and confirms a wireless connection), but when I try to go online, the windows says there is no connection to the internet. My cable modem is connected to airport express. Am I missing something? Also I've set up my network using WEP access for the computers....
Appreciate your suggestions!

My suggestion would be to ask this in the Airport forum, as it doesn't appear to have any direct relevance to using iTunes.
