Can XML publisher hold data source

Hi XML guru's,
I understand that, XML publisher holds templates. Which are used to create XML reports.
Could anyone let me know, whether XML server can able to hold data source like stored procedures etc.
So it can fetch data with in the XML publisher and generate a report accordingly.

I understand that XML Publisher is stand alone product which can has it own roles and responsibilities.
Is there any way, we can add integrate XML Publisher with Oracle Apps. So that it will share same roles and responsibilities.

In windows environment I donot have any problem when creating crystal report from Xml file and Excel file. After creating reports when I publish those into boe server in solaris, getting connection failed error.
My solaris BOE server doent have any network connection with windows machines. So i have to place the files in solaris server.
Below the steps what I tried:
1. Created crystal reports from cr designer in windows using ADO.Net(xml) and in another try with Xml webservices drivers. Reports works well as it should.
2. Saved in BOE repository in Solaris server from crystal reports and changed database configuration settings as:
 -Used custom database logon information and specified cr_xml as custom driver.
 -Chnaged database path to file directory path according to solaris server file path </app/../../>
 -tried table prefix also
 - Selected radio button use same database logon as when report is run saved.
My environment :
SAP BOXI3.1 sp3
crystal reports 2008 sp3
SunOS
Cr developing in windows 7.
For Excel I tried with ODBC in windows but I can't find any ODBC or JDBC drivers for Excel in solaris.
Any help to solve my issues

Using XML as a Data Source

In http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/e10540/datasource.htm#CHDBCAIJ it states you can use XML as your data source and mentions...
URLs can include repository or session variables, providing support for HTTP data sources that accept user IDs and passwords embedded in the URL. For example:
http://somewebserver/cgi.pl?userid=valueof(session_variable1)&password=valueof(session_variable2)
I'm trying to pass this:
http://somewebserver/cgi.pl?userid=valueof(NQ_SESSION.USER)
but when I try that I can see in my web server logs that the content of the userid variable is 'valueof(NQ_SESSION.USER)' so it's not passing the results to the web server, just the text. Any ideas what's going on? Is my syntax correct? Thanks!

There are a few things to look at when using session and repository variables within the RPD.
One of the first documents you need to reference is the "What is the Syntax for Referencing Variable?" section within the OBI documentation. In addition look at this section on how to use variables in the RPD, http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/e10540/variables.htm#BIEMG3104
Basically you are trying to use NQ_SESSION.USER which is the syntax for trying to show the user name is Presentation Services. Of course you can see this in your web server logs because that is the correct syntax for presentation services web tier but not the RPD where you define your XML Source.
You need to try either use VALUEOF("USER") or you are simply forgeting to put the syntax surrounded by single-quotes like, http://somewebserver/cgi.pl?userid='valueof(NQ_SESSION.USER)' to pull the system session variable into the XML URL as needed.
Try those options and let me know if that works.

Support for XML / Web Service Data Source?

Do you know if and when Crystal Reports for Eclipse will support using the XML / Web Service data source? It appears that only JDBC and Java Result Sets are currently supported. Ok, I copied the JARs (such as CRDBXMLServer.jar) from the JRC SDK (from Eclipse all-in-one) onto the Tomcat classpath and got rid of my previous problem. I now get the stack trace below. I also can not find crdb_*.dll files (such as crdb_xml.dll) anywhere on my system other than the service pack 2 rollback directories. Can XML Publisher add a digital certificate (cert.pfx) via the xdo.cfg file or do I need to upgrade and use BI Publisher instead?

I need to add a digital certificate to a clients customer statements and invoices. XML Publisher 5.6.3 has been used originally to design the templates as RTF. I have the following questions please...
1. Can an RTF template be used or do I need to convert it to a pdf template?
2. Can XML publisher even be used or do I need to get the DBAs to install BI Publisher. XML Publisher doesn't even have the signature properties in the admin screens that BI Publisher has.

How can i lookup a data source v5 in WSAD 5.1?

I'm using WSAD 5.1 to developer a web application based on J2EE 1.3 that have a simple java classes. My application uses a data source version 5 to have access the database. I?m using service locator pattern to lookup a JNDI but it dont work properly on stand alone java classes, only on EJB components.
How can i lookup a data source version 5 from my java class on WSAD 5.1?

Oh I did not realize that you were talking about a stand-alone application. You cannot use the server datasources in your stand-alone application.
You can use the Oracle helper classes to construct a DataSource on the client side.
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/javax/sql/DataSource.html and driver specific documentation to achieve this. I will try to send a few links, if I find any.
In a stand-alone application, you can use some connection pooling mechanism on your own.
The ideal thing to do is to keep your data access in your middle tier (EJBs) and call the EJB's. This way you can reuse things in multiple client tiers and use the container provided datasource and connection pooling mechanisms.

Sub reports In Crystal reports XML as a data Source

I am facing one problem related to Sub reports functionality in crystal reports as XML as a data Source. We are using CrystalReports XI for this.
I was generated PDF's using crystal reports from ruby on rails, by using the JAVA API to produce the PDF by taking the XML,XSD,and RPT files as parameters. I succeed in this case
and the way we are communicating with JAVA API using from my Ruby on Rails application by the following link.

Right Now my problem is as follows.
The problem with the sub reports generation from crystal reports. We had one main report file(RPT), In that we are using the Sub reports,for that sub reports need to parse the XML's and XSD's dynamically based on the report encountered on the main(RPT)file,but to send more than one XSD's and XML's dynamically based on the sub report, to the JAVA API from Ruby on Rails application I am not succeeded. So as a result PDF with the Dynamic data for Sub reports is not fulfill.

    We can't create Datasource using Strcutres. We need to have base tables.
    For Function Module Extractors, we will create strctures. We will use these strctures as Extract Structures. But, we will get the data from Base tables only not from Strcutures.
Strctures won't contain data.

As per the above, can we have 2 data sources (i.e Infocube and Masterdata attribute) for a single Infospoke.
In the current scenario, Material is my infoobject of a cube and also need material attribute - gross weight to be made available in a table.
Please let me know if it is possible?

try these:
- create a multi provider and include the cube and master data attribute concerned.
- create a infospoke againt the multi provider.
- do same steps as usual.

One of the note says that:

Add the required fields to the the SD communication structures using the Append method and use the LIS customer exits to fill the field.
 For information on enhancing the communication structures, see the documentation for the enhancements MCS10001, MCS50001 and MCS60001 (provided in transaction SMOD).
After you enhance the communication structures (for example MCVBAP), you can then enhance the extract structure (for example MC11VA0ITM) with the relevant field in the Customizing cockpit (transaction LBWE), provided that the comunication structure is available in the selection.
 To display a delta, you must make sure that you can determine the status in the user exit before and after the document change.
 This varies from case to case and depends on from which table the field is filled.
 For example, you may occasionally have to obtain the information from the internal document tables (such as xvbap and yvbap).
Refer to note 216448 for information on correctly populating the before and after image.
Another way of adding user-defined fields to extract structures is to enhance the document tables, for example, VBAK, VBAP, VBEP tc.
 The fields can be filled in the general sales user exits, the delivery or the invoice.
The fields added using an append are also available in the LogisticCustomizing Cockpit for enhancing the extract structures.
 With the latter procedure, bear in mind that the fields added to the document tables must be saved to the database with the information they contain.
 An advantage of this method is that there is no need for data retrieval in the LIS UserExit.

I can't Find the Data source for the Hierarchy 0GLACCEXT_T011_HIER
But Info object 0GLACCEXT is available and
i find the Infosource 0GLACCEXT ,but this is 3.5 version.
I check some SAP notes
663945 -- Transfer Rules for 0GLACCEXT Info object
but My B I Content is 703
Do I need to follow this SAP note ?

Pam,
BI 7 does not support hierarchy datasources. For implementing hierarchies (BI 7), you have to use BW 3.X infosources/transfer rules.

903/902/BC4J can't get OC4J data-sources.xml conn pooling to work in production: help

I have several BC4J ears deployed to a 903 instance of OC4J being configured as a standalone
instance. I've had this problem since I started deploying in development on 902. So it's
some basic problem that I've not mastered.
I can't get data-sources.xml managed connection pooling to actually pool conn's. I'm wanting
to declare my jndi jdbc source connection pool in j2ee/home/config/data-sources.xml and
have all BC4J apps get conns from this JNDI JDBC pool. I've removed all data-sources.xml from
my BC4J ears, and published the jndi jdbc source in my oc4j common data-sources.xml.
I've tested that this is the place controlling the conn URL/login passwd by commenting it
out of config/data-sources.xml and my BC4J apps then throw exceptions, can't get conn.
I've set the oc4j startup cmd line with the BC4J property to enabled connection pooling:
-Djbo.doconnectionpooling=true
symptom
Connections are created and closed. Instead of being put back into the pool managed by oc4j,
what ever BC4J is doing or my data-sources.xml is doing, the connections are just being created and
closed.
I can verify this via (solaris) lsof and netstat, where I see my oc4j instance under test load
with only 1 or 2 conns to the db box, and the ephemeral port is tumbling, meaning a new socket is
being opened for each conn. ;( grrrrrrr
Does anyone have a clue as to why this is happening?

Yes, set it to the location jndi path.
A piece of info is that the 903 oc4j release notes states that global conn pooling doesn't
work. Infering that the j2ee/home/config/data-sources.xml data sources aren't pooled or ??
I just tested so called local connection pooling, where I edited the data-sources.xml that
gets packaged in the ear, to include the min/max params and re-ran my test.
Still, the AM creates a new conn, it's to a new socket, and closes the conn when done. Causing
each conn to not be pooled, rather opened then closed to the DB box. As verified with lsof and
netstat, checking the ephemeral port # on the DB box side, always changes, meaning it's a
new socket and not an old pooled conn socket.
???? What the heck??
Surely if the AM conn check out / return code works properly, OC4J's pooling JDBC driver would
pool and not close the socket??
Has anywone gotten JDBC Datasource connections in BC4J to actually be pooled under OC4J??
Since I couldn't get this to work in my early 902 oc4j testing, and now can't get it to work
still under 903 OC4J, either it's my config or BC4J AM's code or OC4J?
Any thoughts on how to figure out what's not configed correctly or has a bug?

I have an application that have to publish document from xml document that are not part a oracle 10g database but will be stored into Oracle Berkeley XML database insteed. Is it possible to use server and/or desktop to publish these documents ?
I test the desktop edition using the source xml document but it render no data when the template is executed (vizualization)
I installed the server edition and i'm not able to declare xml document as a data source
So i have a doubt that xml publisher is able to publish something from a xml datasource

Yes, it is possible.
The problem should come from your template. Refer to "edit a RTF template" in the docs.
A fact is that XML Publisher server edition is not very adapted to an XML file datasource. In order to use it, you should use an HTTP datasource, with the URL of your XML document (that you should place on a web server...). The problem is that this URL is fixed and point always on the same reference...so XML Publisher server edition is not very good for that use.
I choose to use the XML Publisher Java API which is better for this task.
