Can you access time capsule from a mac over the internet?

Yes. See this thread about how to access the disk attached to a Time Capsule.  Access to the Time Capsule itself can be done similarly.

  • Accessing Time Capsule From Any Internet Connection

Could you please tell me if it will be possible to access Time Capsule from any internet. I would like to put all my files on the device and be able to access these while out on the road.
Thanks in advance for your help
    Cheers Steve

Yes, you certainly can (right now) remotely access the hard drive attached to your AEBSn. I will refer you to "Step 4" in Apple's article Sharing a USB hard disk on your network for instructions on enabling this feature. To access the disk remotely (and don't test this from a computer on your own LAN) select "Connect to Server" from the Finder's "Go" menu, and enter the public IP address of your Base Station.
I have to admit the specs for Time Capsule don't explicitly indicate that Time Capsule will support this feature. However, given this feature is available on the AEBSn and is easy to implement, I would be very surprised if Apple took away this feature when they designed Time Capsule.

  • Can I share the files on the time capsule for all of the macs on my network and can I access time capsule from my laptop while out of town?

I have a iMac desktop and a macbook pro.  If I purchase a time capsule, can I use it as the central location for my files for both computers?  Can I access the files on the time capsule from my macbook pro when I am out of town?

Yes, with some provisos.. it is designed as primarily a backup location for Time Machine.
Look at Pondini who has a great deal of info in his KB of all things Time Machine .. as well as Time Capsule.
    Q3 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Remote access is via BTMM and iCloud.. just look it up.
But the TC must be the main router in the network for it to work.

  • Can I connect to my Time Capsule from any where via the internet ?

I want to be able to connect to my Time Capsule when I'm on the road. How can I do so?

Do a google for remote time capsule connection.
Yes, it is very easy using a Mac if you have static public IP and the TC is the main router.
It can be done via iCloud and BTMM.. again just look it up.
It is very very hard to do it without iCloud Lion and latest TC firmware or static IP.
It should be accessed by AFP.. means no windows machines.
It should be considered carefully as there are some risks.. passwords my not be exchanged encrypted..
The right way is vpn using a vpn router and TC in bridge.

  • Can't access time capsule from my macbook air

    Guys,
Recently, I bought a Time Capsule. In my home  I have 1 IMAC, 1 Macbook Air and 1 Ipad connected to the TC. In the first  configuration everything is ok. But, now, when I true to use the Time Machine or even access  the TC from the MacBook air I'm not able to to do that. When I try it comes a message telling that I should contact the system administrator.
If someone could help I`ll be glad.
    Thanks,
    Caliljr

Reboot the TC.. it is stupid yosemite.. it has forgotten where the TC is.
This is stock standard yosemite.. welcome to the beta program you thought was full release.
There threads multiple in number and length but no fix is available.
new x yosemite doesn't support airport utilities ... time capsule doesn't work.. very frustrated ... need help please
Start at the end and works backwards.

  • Can you use Time Capsule with any wifi extender?

Can you use Time capsule with any wifi extenders?

No, since Apple designed their routers to only work with other Apple routers.
I suppose that it is possible that another brand might work, but since you won't know this until you try, it would be a good idea to have a clear understanding of the store's return policy before you decide to gamble.

  • Best way to access Time Capsule from the Internet?

I wanted to see if anyone knew of a program or setting I can use in order to access Time Capsule from the internet? I know that probably I will not be able to at this point access it directly, even though it is connected to the internet through my modem, but I do have a Mac at home that is connected to Time Capsule. Isn't their a way that I could connect to the Mac, but not through Back to My Mac, that would show Time Capsule as connected to it, so that way I could access the files? Any ideas would be appreciated.

It is possible to mount the TC as a network hard drive when outside your regular network.
    1) You will need to reconfigure your router to forward the ports used for AFP (by default 548) to the Time Capsule.
    2) Then when outside the network make sure Finder is active, press Apple+K to bring up the 'Connect To Server' dialog.
    3) Input the WAN IP address of the network to which the TC resides on.
    4) You will be asked for the password used to access TC.
    5) The TC should appear as a mounted drive.
It is then possible to access files on the TC as well as do a TM backup. To make life easier you can drag the mounted TC into your dock for easier access in the future.
However, it is obviously recommended to use a strong password to protect the TC (configurable using Airport Utility in the 'Disks/File Sharing' tab). You may also need to use a service like DynDNS if your network does not use a static IP address.
But I am using my home networks' Time Capsule successfully from the office.

  • Can I access time capsule file without using imac

can I access time capsule file without using imac

From a time machine backup? No. If you mean just a regular file stored on there? Not directly. There are a couple of apps out there where you can indirectly get to a file but it's a pain. If you have need of accessing a file both from the mac and the iPad then I suggest DropBox. You get 2GB free and it's a good way to share information between machines and devices.

  • After upgrading to Lion I can't access time capsule pre lion.

Last week I backedup to time capsule via cable.
    I then upgraded to Lion.
After upgrading I backedup to TC again.
Now my MBP 17  can't access time capsule pre lion. So I can't see any of my last 2 years of Snow Leopard data.

yikes, I had to move all my years of iPhoto folders/pix from very old iMac to a new HP laptop with PC Vista Home Premium....now finally ready and hoping to do years worth of photo albums! so I go in to these files and of course they don't open...because they're on pc.
    - I am techno ignorant on all this, what can I do? Is there any way I can open these on PC or do I need to go back and reinstall on a very very very old AND slow slow slow mac? these photos were created in 199, 200, 2001 up through 2007 so through many versions of iPhoto and Mac OS. I am hoping I can retrieve them - and very worried I cannot! Would love advice and help.
    - and on a separate note, any good, inexpensive iPhoto and iTunew wizard/tech support professionals out there in the Menlo Park, CA area?

  • Can i unplug time capsule from the ethernet cable and still use it??

can i unplug time capsule from the ethernet cable and still use it??

I have tried to extend that wireless line but as soon as i remove the LAN cable i have no internet connection anymore. So basically, does the TC get the signal wireless from the router??
The Time Capsule can wirelessly extend a wireless signal....but only if it is being provided by another Apple AirPort wireless router.
If the "main" rotuer there is not an Apple AirPort router,  you will need to connect to the network using a wired Ethernet connection.

  • I just purchased a 3TB Time Capsule.  I live in Italy and have 220V power.  The Time Capsule is rated for that, but the cord says 125V.  Can I use this cord with an adapter, or do I need to buy a new cord at an Italian store?

Due to the kind of plug used the US power cord is rated at the 125v value.. and legally we cannot advise you to use on higher voltages.. although I have never had issues in Australia.. 240v.
But adapters from your Euro power plug to US are generally ugly .. unsightly things.. and often sit high above the socket and are none too stable.. I agree with Bob.. just go out and buy a standard figure 8 power cord.. check with Apple in Italy for a white one.. if you are going to have it on show.. black are far more common. Or even check ebay for a standard power Apple power cord as a number of items they sell use the figure8 socket.

  • TS1702 I tried to download the upgrade, now it won't install and I can not access my documents. It said Vi did not have enough space for the upgrade so I made room but still no luck.

What upgrade are you trying to install? Your profile shows iOS 5.1.1, which is the current max iOS.

  • Can I move a purchase from one library to another as long as it's the same account?

Can I move a purchase from one library to another as long as it's the same account?

Yes. Just copy the purchase to the user account/computer and drag it into the iTunes window or use the Add to Library command. If iTunes isn't authorized to the iTunes Store account the purchase was made through, you'll just have to authorize that system.
    Regards.
