Can you back up ALL the settings on the iPhone?
I was reading here from another post http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/battery/ about the battery replacement process and noticed that it said "It is important to sync your iPhone with iTunes to back up your contacts, photos, email account settings, text messages, and more."
Anyone know how you would back up your text messages? Is it possible? Im a backup fanatic and would love to know how to make sure every last detail on this iPhone is backed up including text messages.
Anyone hear of a software update coming at all for the iPhone? Any little thing? MMS? Battery meter? Anything?
PS . The longer I use my iPhone and charge it nightly, the battery seems to be getting better and better. Very happy about that
iCloud as it is today is not really designed for backing up your mac. Photo Stream is designed as a way to move photos from one device to another but not intended to be a backup. There are a number of online backup options such as http://www.code42.com/crashplan/ and http://mozy.com/#slide-5
I use an external hard drive for Time Machine backup but I also use an online service for protection in the event of theft or fire where the external drive would probably also be gone.

HT4946 can you back up your contacts list from your iphone?
can you back up a contact list from an iphone 4
You should be syncing them to a cloud service or to an address book on your computer. Are you?

I am trying to save memory on my iPhone 4S/ ios6.
1) Can I back up all photos to icloud and the external hard disk I normally use for photos? If I then delete photos from the iPhone do the get deleted on iCloud?
2) Can I back up the newsstand to iCloud and save memory on the iPhone?
3) Can I back up the bookshelf to icloud and save memory on the iPhone?1. What format is the external drive? It sounds like it's ina format that Macs can't write to. Is it a NAS or NTFS?
2. Easiest thing: just move your iPhoto Library to the external
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

I want to delete my old iPhone backup since I can not back up my new phone. Will I lose any pictures? Can you ever see what is actually on the cloud? Last, how do I delete the old iPhone back up. Thanks, been trying to do this for a long time.
Deleting the backup only permanently deletes the backup from iCloud. It doesn't do anything to the data currently in your account or on your devices. To delete it, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of the device that you want to delete the backup for, then tap Delete Backup.
You can't see anything in an iCloud backup, if that's want you're asking. You can only restore it to your device. You can, of course, see your other iCloud data. -
I upgraded my iPad 2 (3G) to the new OS8 and I can no longer connect to 3G. All the settings on the iPad are correct. It just shows that it's searching for a signal. I'm in an area where my signal (pre OS8) was very good in strength. Please help!
Hello Jpahlphoto!
I'm sorry to learn about the issues mentioned in your post. Let's fix this for you OK?
Please restore your iPad and see if that does the trick. You'll find the steps here:

Hi!! I am a user of i Pod 5g 32GB....I got the same problem for which the solution is given above "
iTunes for Mac reports error -50 when trying to authorize iTunes Store purchases
"....but the thing is that.......in my laptop I have a windows operating system....that is windows 7....so can you explain how to do settings in Windows 4 sameArchived - iTunes for Mac reports error -50 when trying to authorize iTunes Store purchases
Products Affected
iTunes 7 for Mac, iTunes 8 for Mac, iTunes 9 for Mac
This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.
Symptoms
After installing the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Update, iTunes may be unable to properly authorize your computer to play your iTunes Store purchases.
Resolution
The following steps will delete your network preferences. Most broadband connections do not require any special settings to connect, but if your connection does or if you are not sure, please contact your ISP or network administrator for further assistance.
Important: You must be logged in as an Administrator.
Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
Choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Click Go.
In the Finder window, locate the file named NetworkInterfaces.plist.
Drag this file to the Trash.
Restart the computer.
Once your computer has restarted. You will not be able to connect to the Internet. Now you will need to refresh your network settings to be able to connect again.
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
To refresh your network settings, from the Location pop-up menu, choose New Location.
Type a name for your location and click OK.
Click the Apply Now at the bottom right to accept the changes.
If your network connection requires any special settings, you will need to put them back in at this point. Once you have made these changes you should be able to connect to the Internet again and authorize your computer to play your iTunes Store purchases. -
i lost my iPhone. i got a new one, how can i back up all the contacts i had in the old one (iPhone 4S). When i go to Itunes it start as a new iphone.
Contacts are not a part of back up.
Contacts are sync with a compatible programme on your computer depending on your operating system (Windows or Mac). For example, Microsoft Outlook (for both Windows and Mac), Windows Contacts (for Windows) and Addressbook (for Mac).
Or contacts are also backed up in iCloud (depending if you chose to do so).
So, sync back the contacts from any of these programmes. If you have not made a backup of your contacts in any of these progammes, then they are gone.

I powered my phone down to reset it but when I turned it back on all I get is the Itunes logo with a USB cord. When I logo into ITunes on my laptop it is telling me that the phone is in restore mode and wants to restore it but at the same time delete all of my data. Since I cannot get into my phone to do a bacup, I will lose everything. Any suggestions??
AT this point all your data is already gone.
IF you been backing up regular you can restore from that last backup. -
HT204053 can you have multiple apple id's for the family but we all use the same iCloud?
Can you have multiple apple id's for the family members but we all us the same iCloud account?
You'll have to have an ID you all share in order to have a shared iCloud account. It would be sensible for each person to have their own ID and their own iCloud account for email and their own data (each would be on their own computer/iOS device or user account on a Mac) and then have a common account which everyone would sign into in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars to access shared data.
You don't want to be all using the email in a common account - if people are using email aliases remember these can't be detached from the account and transferred to another one. Having all your emails mixed up together can be somewhat impracticable. -
Someone changed the settings on my iPhone so that I can no longer update or add apps. The icon no longer appears. Can someone please tell me how to add that back?

I can access the hotspots settings in Safari on the laptop and still the problem persisits. I did install some new GPS drivers recommended by AT&T, that doesn't seemed to have work. Could it be that there is a port wrong somewhere? Can anybody make heads or tails of this? Any assistance is gratefully appreciated...
