Can you block Hotmail but allow Messenger using a 2600 ACL

Hi, We use a Cisco 2600 router on our leased line. We want to block staff access to hotmail (in fact all external web mail sites) but still allow MSN Messenger (which we use to communicate with several home workers). I have played with blocking several IP addresses on an outbound ACL on the serial 0/0 interface but with limited success. Any hints and tips with regard to technique and IP to block etc? Thanks

Hi,
You'll struggle to do this reliably just using IP's as there's no guarantee they won't change and there's no way of reliably getting a list of even the big three (hotmail, gmail, yahoo) let alone any of the others (.mac, hushmail, lycos, muchomail, mail.com, etc etc). The only way to do this reliably is with a 3rd-party product like websense, webwasher, etc.
Note that if you use a default route to the Internet then any clued-up user just needs to point their browser at a public proxy to bypass your ACL - unless you have a list of all the public proxies..
Also - I'd ask why do you want to block web mail? (blocking IM is usually at the top of the list in a security policy along with P2P). The reasoning is that webmail usually has a built-in anti-virus whereas IM/P2P has the ability to share any damaging content.
Just some thoughts - HTH
Andrew.

Hi, We are a physiotherapy practice trying to use i-cal as a clinic diary system for 15 therapists. We need to block out availability of therapists but cant do this? How can you block someones diary out for specific times on i-cal? Any help please..

iCal is designed for personal use, and isn't really meant to handle this sort of situation.
The best suggestion I can offer, though it's a trifle untidy, is: create a calendar for each therapist, giving each a different colour. Enter the availability for each therapist - if it's on a weekly basis you can make them repeating events. Then add the individual appointments, which will show alongside in the daily view. In this example, the 'purple' therapist is available from 1030 to 1700 and has appointments at 1200 and 1500.
If you have more than a few therapists available at any one time it's liable to look a bit messy, but it's the best I can think of at the moment.

  • Can you print from an iPad 2 using 3G in a home with no computer or wifi by using an iPhone 5 hot spot connection if the printer has been set up in another place with live wifi? I know this question is loaded but my dad lives in a rural area

Can you print from an iPad 2 using 3G in a home with no other computer or wifi by using an iPhone 5 hot spot connection if the printer has been set up in another place with live wifi? I know this question is loaded but my dad lives in a rural area and is wanting a printer to use occasionally. He doesn't want to deal with a computer and I keep his iPad updated for him at my home.  Please shed some light on this for us PLEASE. Thanks

In that case, it should be possible. I haven't tried this directly, but I believe it should work.
You'll need to get an actual AirPrint compatible Printer.
Check here for a list of Printers you can choose from.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
Once you have the compatible printer, using the Hotspot feature from the iPhone he'll have to create the Wifi bubble form the iPhone, and connect the Printer to that Wifi network.
Then connect the iPad to that same Wifi network provided by the iPhone. When all that is done, the printer should appear in any of the Apps that can Print under the Action Arrow button.
For instance in email, pressing the action arrow should show a Print option. In there the printer should appear.
Alternatively you can simply buy a wireless router and setup the network through there even if there is no internet attached.  Connect the wireless printer to the router network, and connect the iPad or iPhone to that same wifi network to print.

  • Are there parental controls on the nano?  Can you block the 'games'?

Help! I am trying to help a friend to young son just received a nano for Christmas. His friends are using the nano more for games than music (why I don't know...) but my friend wants to block the 'games' on her son's new nano before he figures out that there are games. I know you can keep the 'games' off the main menu but can you block them entirely? Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
    iPod Nano (2G)   Other OS

No you can't block the games, and to be honest I don't see the point anyway !
What kind of spoilsport parents buy a present and then wants to disable a harmless set of very simple games.
They are using it for games because it is fun and they are enjoying themselves!!!
Maybe there should be a 'No Fun' option on the iPod, and only allow miserable music to be installed.....

  • Can you block file types???

Can you block certain file types from playing to force users to have a standardized file type to be uploaded to the server?  For example, if we decide we do not want .wav files played on the server, is there a configuration setting to block/stop a .wav from playing from the server?  I want to standardize the server and force end users to copy only certain file types into the vod folder.

That would be in the technology you use to upload the files.
If you build out a server side solution that would upload files to your web server you could do that, but no, FMS is about streaming what's already there or creating new files.  It doesn't care how it got there...
Something like this:  http://www.inaflashuploader.com/ might work for you.  ( I think there's a max size limit to the files you can upload. just FYI )
**disclaimer i have not used this I just googled for a flash + php upload script **

  • How Can You Track Your Ipod If Lost Using The Serial Number

How Can You Track Your Ipod If Lost Using The Serial Number?

The find my iphone app has nothong to do with it.
That app simply allow you to find other devices using your ipod.  It has nothing to do with fining the device on which it is installed.
If you set up the find my ipod feature that is built into your ipod and the ipod is on and it is connected to wi-fi and it has not been restored, then you may be able to get an approximate street address using icloud.
    Othrewise, it cannot be tracked.

  • How can you purchase additional cloud storage without using account credit?

How can you purchase additional cloud storage without using account credit? Want credit to remain on accounts as it was a gift for my daughter and we haven't finished using it yet but need to purchase additional storage for all of our accounts. Can't I just override the automatic payment from the account and just pay with a separate cc?

Purchasing additional storage will not use account credit anyway.  It gets directly charged to your credit card, and you must use a credit card since it is an annual subscription service you are purchasing, not a one time payment option.  They insist on a credit card so they have a billable account for the automatic annual subscription fee.  At least it was that way when I did it.
Sorry - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4874  either I did not have enough credit at the time or something has changed since I did it?  Maybe call Apple and do it over the phone (explain why you want to do it that way)?

  • HT5463 Can you block calls from certain numbers

Can you block calls from certain numbers

You can also make a contact for those numbers and assign a silent
ringtone to them. The calls will still come in, but you will not hear them
and they will eventually go to vocie mail if you have it set up.
You must do this for each number as wildcards are not accepted in
Contacts, but all the numbers can be listed in one contact.
As Ocean20 has stated above, true call blocking is a function of
    your wireless provider.
