I will be going to america in the near future and was wondering whether if id be able to pick up a mac book air from an apple store over there. Should they work over here? Is there anything i should know ? thanks.

Yes, as other posters have said simply remove all packaging. Pick yourself a nice laptop bag and carry it on the flight as hand luggage, and don't declare it to customs! Buy yourself a 13amp US - UK plug and you're fine to connect the power cable to UK mains.
Also, if anything happens to go wrong with your Mac in the UK, so long as you are still in warranty it will be hounored in any UK Apple store.

You can transfer both your user profile and all assorted applications from your MacBook Pro to your new MacBook Air using the Migration Assistant. You can also make an appointment at the Genius Bar and have them do this for you. If you are buying your new Mac from an Apple Store just let them know and they can assist you as well.

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
    Make sure Mute is not enabled.
2. Remove the headphone.
    If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
    in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
    Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

    Choose the method for:

    Option click the speaker icon, if present and select Internal Speakers.

If you remove the battery the CPU power will be cut by 50% (whatever they told you) so that there's no lack of power or overheating issues. It's best to always keep the battery in.

If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. Yes. It will not damage the battery. You do not need to unplug it at night. If you use it from the AC charage all the time, then about once every two months you should use it on battery power until the battery drops below 20%. Then fully recharge the battery after which you should allow the battery to "rest" for about one hour. It is OK to use the computer during that time but do not yet connect the AC adaptor. Follow this practice and your battery should have a good life.

Read the KB. Earlier today I had a fail to sync - I closed my Calendar app and the reopened and all was good.
Sometimes just closing the app the relaunching is all it takes. At other times a reboot of the Mac is all that is needed.
