Can you buy the Install DVD of OS X v10.5.1?

Does anyone know if you buy Leopard now or use the up-to-date form do you get the Install DVD with the most recent release (10.5.1) or do you still get 10.5 and have to update online? Does anyone know if Apple usually updates the Install DVDs only for major releases? I was told by Apple on the phone that they do not update the Install DVDs unless it's a "major" release. Does installing 10.5.1 from a DVD any better than installing 10.5 and updating online to 10.5.1?

There is absolutely no reason to wait for an updated DVD. There is no difference between an updated DVD installation and an installation that has been updated via Software Update. More valid reasons may exist to hold off but this ain't it.
I'm personally holding off while waiting for a couple of updates from developers whose software I use. AlchemyTV DVR is one for example. You should make a careful study of what applications you depend on that must work under Leopard. Various reliable Mac sites like MacFixit and MacInTouch have user lists of what works, what doesn't, what has been updated to work, when updates are expected, and so on. It is naive to think everything on one's system will work with Leopard when Leopard itself is a massive upgrade with many changes, additions, and subtractions.

MBPro won't read SL DVD - can I copy the install DVD on a PC?

My MacBook Pro won't read the SL install DVD (as others have had problems with). I have access to a PC with DVD to DVD copy ability. My question is, can I burn a copy of the install DVD to another DVD and use that copy (assuming my MB will be able to read the copy DVD)? Is this possible? I'm not sure why you think that would work. Either the disk is damaged, in which case you won't be able to magically create a good copy, or your drive is damaged, in which case it's not going to read a copy any better than the original.
Is this a new disk, or have you used it before? Is it readable in other machines? Can your Mac read other disks?

That could be a challenge. If I am not mistaken that camera strictly records to DVD - RW and has no digital output connectors, is that right?
My only experience with a camera like that was a bad one. I was able to get the video off the disc using a tray-loading iMac but it was painfully slow.

You might consider finding an external USB slot-loading DVD drive, but as I say my experience was painfully slow, and you might run into file format compatibility challenges.
I am sure it's possible but it won't be as easy as importing video from something like an iPad or iPhone. I still use a camcorder on occasion but it has a FireWire port. That's easy.

No, you will need to go to a jewellers / trophy engraver to get your iPod engraved.

Mac Book Pro, Bad disk but I can't get the install DVD to work

I have a 13" macbook pro that started to have problems with different apps. They would crash immediately when you clicked on them. I ran disk utility repair permissions and everything was ok but when I went to verify the disk it reported that the drive was corrupt. I bought a new drive, installed the drive and inserted the Install DVD that came with the machine. After a few minutes I get a message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button...." I tried using a Leopard install DVD and same problem. Originaly this machine came with SL but I figured since I am using a new disk (unformated I assume) that any OS install DVD would get me formatted and back to a point where I could connect with Time Machine and restore. I swapped out the RAM, HDD cable and DVD drive with another MPP with the same results. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have several MPP's. The one that is failing originaly came with SL. I don't have an SL disk so I attempted to use a Leopard to install a brand new disk drive. I would have thought that it didn't matter if it was SL or Leopard since it was a new disk (no reference of what was on it before). I could see an issue with compatability between a Intel OS on a G5 but SL vs Leopard on an Intel MPP should be OK. Thoughts?
The install DVD I am using "should" be the correct disk. I understand the sensitivity of using the disk that came with the machine. The reason I think this it is the ocrrect disk is it says 13" MPP and 10.6 for the OS which fits the description of what this machine had on it when it was purchased. I don't believe I have any other 13" machines with SL.
I also ran the diagnostics last eve. All passed.
I'm thinking of putting a working 10.5 disk from another machine into the failing machine and running Verify from the disk utility to see if I get the same error. If so, I would assume my disk controller is bad and need a new motherboard.

iPads are not carrier locked. All new iPads 3G/4G have sim slots and will work with foreign sims. Wifi-only iPads do not have sim slots, for obvious reasons, no 3G or 4G capability.

Bloodangel,Unless something changed recently, Best Buy doesn't carry the Zen Touch. Very few of the big national chains (BB, CompUSA, Circuit City) carry the Touch. They do carry the Xtra. In the NYC area, the only place that I think you can just walk in and touch a Touch is J & R, down on Park Row near City Hall. I haven't found any big stores in NJ, or CT that have Touchs on display.

Can you replicate the video DVD autolaunch and playback on a Flash drive?

I'm creating a motion graphics presentation in Motion and I normally burn these to DVD with DVDSP where it automatically plays when you insert it into a DVD player or computer.
My client wants to distribute the presentation on Flash drives, though, and give those out. My thinking is that a Flash drive is only data and so we would need to distribute the presentation as a QT movie file, which would require the end user run the file.
There's no way to make a computer think a Flash drive is a video DVD, is there?

Yeah, the companies you buy those custom USB Flash drives from will put any file you want on them and I'm familiar with the auto run .ini option in Windows. The problem with that is playing a QuickTime movie file on a PC or Mac doesn't look as good at full screen as a video DVD, in my opinion, and the end user would have to manually tell it to go full screen. Finally, not all computers have the auto run feature enabled because of the virus issue you cited, and the end user would have to right-click on the drive and select "Explore" in Windows, or find the file in the Finder, and then manually run it.
Video DVD is great because it looks great at full screen and it's platform agnostic. If you insert one into any computer with a DVD drive, it will either auto play or it will give the user a dialog asking them if they want to play it.
But from a marketing perspective, the USB Flash drive is better because when you give them out to people (with your company's logo on it), people are more likely going to use it and see your presentation versus a DVD disc.

If you call Apple with the phone number on your Apple Account, so long as your product is registered the process is fairly simple. When you call in they'll inform you it may cost $20 BUT it wont. Tell the person on the other end you want the DIY replacement kit for the bottom foot pads. Inform them that it is a special order item if they appear to not know what youre referring to. Its ~14 plus the shipping cost. Definitely the easiest and best way to do it IMO. Just ordered mine and the price is way cheaper than if you order from elsewhere for the tools included.

Mac does not recognize the install DVD

I can not get the install DVD to work. I am running a G5 1.6 GHZ, 1.5 GB ram and OS X 10.3.9.
Tried just about everything, but it will not open on the desktop. Tried a restart with it in the drive holding down the C key but it just ejects the DVD.
What y'all think?

I can open other DvD's with the drive. It is OK. I purchased this from macmall in Dec, just got enough nerve to install it. It does have a few little scratches on it though. Could they have sold me a used one?
