Can you bypass iDVD???

Hi,
Does anyone know if you can connect a DVD player to your iMac, and somehow record an iMovie '08 project directly into a DVD player, without going through iDVD?
My problem is that I have a perfectly good quality iMovie project. When I run it through iDVD with all of the highest (professional) settings, it still takes a big dip in quality.
Before you suggest that I re-do the project in iMovie '06 or iMovie HD, my photos went blurry as soon as they left iPhoto and went into either of those versions. I switched to iMovie'08, and it did not have a loss of quality when converting my photos.
So---I'm looking for some technical or other advice. I have a beautiful family project that I hate to show in the dull, blurry end-product of iDVD.
Sorry for the long-winded question. I'm really hoping for a solution to my problem.
Thanks!
Todd

My iPhotos are picture perfect clear in both iPhoto AND iMovie'08, but appear fuzzy and blurry after being burned onto a DVD by iDVD.
You neglect to mention what your source content is. Both HD video and multi-megapixel photos are downscaled to a 720x480 encode matrix as part of the iDVD process of converting your iMovie project output to MPEG-2 video for multiplexing with PCM audio. Some loss in definition is to be expected with each conversion in format even with standard definition content and the differences can be even more pronounced when going from high definition to standard definition DVDs. In addition, since iDVD uses PCM audio instead of AC3, the maximum data rate for the MPEG-2 conversion is more limited than with other authoring applications like Toast.
If I brought my entire iMac to a professional studio, could they use some other application to get me a better final product?
It goes without saying that I would expect a project professionally edited in a professional application converted to MPEG2/AC3 content and burned to a DVD using a more professional authoring application to look better. However, there is the question of how much you are willing to spend on such an endeavor.

How can you bypass a password.  This is my son's phone and he is in trouble.  I need to access his phone.  The account is in my name.  ATT won't help.

There is no way to bypass the lock screen password. If there were it would not provide any security. It's not AT&T refusing to help; they can't, because the only place the lock code is stored is on the phone. If the phone is backed up regularly to a computer or to iCloud you can restore it as described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 and then restore the backup. You will still need the Apple ID and passcode that was used to set up Find my iPhone.

  • Can you use idvd on a new mac?

can you download a version of idvd to run on a new mac laptop running 10.9?
If not how can you successfully chapter (with a title page menu featuring still and animated ties in a selectable main menu) and burn a dvd?

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
YES, iDVD will run on Mavericks.

  • In scene selection mode, can you make iDVD return to the scene selection menu after playing that scene without continuing to play all the other scenes?

After selecting one scene from the scene selection menu, the following scenes play automatically, as if it were in "play movie" mode. Is there a way to stop that behavior and have the DVD return to the scene selection menu after playing just the selected scene?

    OK
So what You want is a "Play All" button resp. a "Play one Chapter at a time" one.
    Then
BAD News - There are Non ! in iDVD
GOOD News - it can in part be faked.
    read on
Play all resp. one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in height. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !

You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

  • Can you bypass any activity of session in replication??????????

Can i ignore/bypass any batch process going on in any session so that it does not get replicated?????????
    Regards
    Gagan

Confirm that it meets the specs Apple specifies, easiest way is usually to check
    http://www.crucial.com/mac/
Then run Memtest to insure it passes (no matter what you buy or have installed).
RAM can vary from the same vendor and it is possible that "A" works, "B" works, but put both in the same system and they won't.
    Another reliable vendor is
    www.ramjet.com
Even OWC carries Micron/Crucial as well as Samsung (they may have stopped, I don't see it as often now due to its high price?).
As long as the timing, voltage, SPD and CAS Latency all "match up" - it might! Does that sounds like it is worth a roll of the dice... ?

So, we decided to do a factory reset by powering off and useing the OK, Cancel and On/Off power button sequence. Now it is looking for the Setup Cartidges but these were thrown out ages ago. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Hi @ShamrockLiniux , and welcome to the HP Forums.
I see you are experiencing setup cartridge requests.
When performing the type of reset performed, the printer will require setup cartridges.
The best recommendation I could make would be to contact HP directly.  You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide.

  • Can you combine IDVD & IPhoto for making slideshow?

I have made a 45 min. slideshow on IPhoto with 600 pictures & 8 songs.  I would now like to make an introduction from IDVD and rolling credits at the end.  Is it possible to combine the IPhoto slideshow & the IDVD part to make one slideshow?  Is it best to export to ITunes or to desktop to burn the DVD?

Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

  • TS2401 How can you bypass the passcode screen if you forget the passcode number. This is a first for me in the 4 years I have had it???

I changed the passcode to my phone a couple of days ago and for the life of me can't figure out what it is.  I need to get into the phone but don't know how without resetting the phone to origional setting.  If I do this I will not have a phone at all can anyone help.  This is a special situation.  The phone is not on a network that carries it this is why I can't reset to origional setting.  HELP

If you forgot your passcode, restore the phone from backup on the last computer your phone was synced with... this will remove the passcode.
If you do not have access to the last computer the phone was synced with, you will have to force the phone into recovery mode & restore as a new device.

  • Where can you download iDVD?

where do i download iDVD as it does not appear to be available in the apps store?

Yes. Apple no longer distributes iDVD.
1a) Buy an old iLife from a place such as e-bay or Amazon (https://discussions.apple.com/message/18750180).  Make sure it is a version that has iDVD.  Do not buy it from Apple since their version no longer has iDVD.
1b) Depending upon which computers and discs you have you may be able to do a custom installation of the software using old system installer discs that had iLife bundled.
    2) Try a third party application (none have the features of iDVD though).
Burn (free) - http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html - includes basic DVD authoring but you will definitely have to read the documentation.

  • Can you bypass the window that asks if you want to open or save attachments? I always open them the same way.

I would like to be able to turn off the window that asks me if I want to Open this file or Save it. I get many attachments from the same place and I would like to be able to bypass this window, as I always do the same thing -- open it.

Deleted it, restarted it. tried it again. no change. repeated the whole cycle. no change. thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling, but that won't reallyk change the settings.

Re-Toast DVD - is it the same as IDVD - That is can you burn a number of .mov slide shows on the same disk?  Thank you

Toast can author and burn video DVDs but it's not nearly as versatile as iDVD is in creating video DVDs.  Toast can only create one menu so all items must be on it, i.e. no sub-menus, no animated menus, etc.

  • How much can you fit using iDVD

How mcuh can you fit on a dvd using iDVD? Can you fit 2 hours, maybe more.

    No, 2 hours, maybe less!
The maximum capacity of a DVD is 120 minutes, but that includes titles, transitions etc.
If you work on 1 hr 45 minutes you should be OK.
The only exception is if you burn the DVD using Roxio Toast, which has the ability to 'compress to fit', but there is a quality penalty.
The attention span of the audience is also a factor....
