Can you compose songs in garageband?

I have used Garageband on the iPad. On that you can actually create your own original songs, create tracks with chords very easily to back the song. But there does't seem to be any way to play chords easily on the Mac version, doesn't have preset rhythms for strumming guitar etc. so it seems that the stripped down version on the iPad/Iphone is actually better for creating your own tunes. The Mac version just seems to have loops that don't really help you compose your own songs. You would think the bigger Mac version would be even better, but it seems the bare bones iPad app is actually better for composing. Am I missing something? On the iPad you just press the chord keys and it plays chords to back your tune whether you're using the guitar, piano, orchestra with different rhythms of each.
If anyone has had success writing their own songs (and without real instruments) please let me know how you did, or if there's any good instructional videos on youtube (not the ones where they are making songs with all the loops and such) please let me know.
Thanks-Roy

Roy,  if you own both an iPad and a Mac, and have GarageBand installed on both, then I suggest you download the Logic Remote app to your iPad.  You would then be able to play the instrument on the iPad, and lay it down (using Logic Remote) in a track in an opened project in GarageBand on the Mac.  This is, in my opinion, a pretty powerful set-up.  You get the utility of the touch instruments on the iPad, combined with the more powerful editing of your virtual instrument recording on the Mac.
Both the Mac and iPad need to be on the same wifi network in order to communicate with each other with Logic Remote.  Instead of using a router, where both devices would typically be communicating over a wifi network that might be connected to the Internet, I instead recommend--for the purposes of reducing latency and potential network interruptions--setting up a simple peer-to-peer wifi network created off of the Mac, which the iPad can join.
It would be even better, as others have recommended elsewhere, if Apple would provide a hard-wired solution over which the iPad could communicate with the Mac, in order to eliminate the problems of latency or unexpected interruptions that a wireless connection can be subject to.
Are you listening to your users, Apple?  Are you monitoring this forum to take suggestion improvements into consideration?
If you are monitoring this forum, Apple, can you kindly have someone address the problem I have described in the following thread?:
GarageBand creating blank space after song.

How can you delete songs off the ipod without deleting songs off your itunes library?  My son's ipod automatically synced all the songs in my library to his ipod which he now wants to get rid of.  Is there a way to delete them all without me having to erase my library?

  • How can you shuffle songs in a playlist in itunes 11?

You used to be able to create a playlist, shuffle it, then synch it to your ipod.  This was done easily with a shuffle button in the library.  In 11 that button is no longer there.  How can you do this now?

Your question is clear, but you then go on to say something completely different. I've answered your question "how can (you) shuffle songs in a Playlist in iTunes 11".
In Playlists, click on the "start playing in shuffle mode" icon (that I've ringed). And...
In this next shot (the space you need to watch), you can see the Shuffle icon (ringed in larey lime) is blue, so it's "on", and I've also clicked on the "show me what's coming up next" icon (ringed in red).  Study the list of upcoming songs. It's the Playlist we're in, but shuffled:
    Hey presto!
Now - if you actually mean something else, such as: "create the Playlist, adjust the order of the songs and then Sync it to the iPod"; then as before, you can drag songs within a Playlist to whatever order you want and Sync the Playlist - as before. I've no idea what the "button" you refer to, looked like. Can you explain?

Can you share songs and apps but use multiple apple ID's?

hmm, that's a trick one! what I would do is go to Messages>preferences>accounts and then select imessages and then select account details and then sign out. Then your wife will need to sign in with her apple id.
    hope this helps!!
let me know if that works because I've never actually tried it.
simply adding both of your accounts to be reached at will prove to be faulty because when you reply you can only reply with the one email address. And even if you switch caller id's it probably still won't work. So I think my method would be the easiest way to do that at this time.

can you download songs from itunes match from the cloud to your iPhone ie for times when you dont have internet connection?

Unless you have an Internet connection you cannot access iCloud. You can download your music from iCloud to store permanently on your iPhone, but only when you have an Internet connection to do so.

  • Can you delete songs off ipad 2 ios 8.1 by swiping song

can you delete songs off ipad 2 ios 8.1 by swiping song

tapping on the cloud icon downloads the song to your iPad. It does NOT send the song to the cloud. The song is already in the cloud and that is why the download icon is next to it, so that you can download it if you choose to do so.
THe songs that you see that you said that you did not download might be the Songs of Innocence U2 Album that Apple pushed to everybody's devices sometime ago. If you want to remove them, try this and see if it still works.

We are experiencing this sudden error now too. Up until last night, we were accessing our Cart. But, then after adding one more song and deleting some from the cart, we got the error and cannot access the account from any machine. In addition to this one, we have a brand new iMAC "24, dual Intel; a PowerBook G4, and a Gateway Laptop running XP. None of the machines can access this Cart. Our other iTunes account is fine, without problem. But, this account's cart is inaccessible. I can find no solution.

  • How can I transfer songs from GarageBand on iPad to GarageBand 6 (from iLife '11)?

I would like to know an easy way to transfer current projects from my iPad to my computer (which has GarageBand 6) and still be able to work on them. Please don't tell me that I should get Mavericks, which comes with GarageBand 10, because I can't afford a newer Mac right now. Any help would be appreciated.

    See this document:
GarageBand for iOS and Mac: Project compatibility http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4574
GarageBand 6.0.2 can open GarageBand for iOS projects, but  it will depend on the version on your iPad. If you already upgraded to GarageBand 2.0 iOS, you may be out of luck.
To transfer the projects from your iPad, try to transfer using iTunes:
    http://help.apple.com/garageband/ipad/1.4/index.html#chsec12c387
Send a GarageBand song to iTunes:
Tap the My Songs button, then tap Edit.
Tap the song you want to send, then tap the Share button
    Tap Share Song via iTunes.
Do one of the following: After you tap the iTunes icon, you can choose the quality of the file GarageBand sends to iTunes. You can also add artist, composer, and title information that appears in iTunes.
To send the song as a GarageBand song, tap GarageBand.
To send the song as an audio file, tap iTunes, then tap Share.
Sync your iPad with your computer. In iTunes, the exported song appears in the Documents list in the File Sharing area when GarageBand is selected.
    Do one of the following:
Drag the song from the GarageBand Documents list to the Finder.
Click Save As, navigate to the location where you want to save the song, then click Save.
You can open the GarageBand song in GarageBand on your Mac, or play the audio file in iTunes (or any compatible audio application) on your computer. GarageBand songs cannot be opened on a Windows computer.

  • Can you erase songs from iTunes, but keep them on the iPod???

Hi, I'm a newbie and tried to post this question earlier, but I'm not sure if it worked.
I'm wondering if there is any way to update your ipod, then take some of the songs on itunes, but still plug your ipod in later and keep those former songs on the ipod even if they're not on itunes. I'm thinking this isnt possible. But I wanted to make sure. I have limited HD space, but a 30GB ipod, so I was considering my options.
    thanks!
    angela

Set the iPod to sync manually; you can then delete songs from iTunes without them being deleted from the iPod automatically. You should keep another copy of the songs if you do this, as they can easily be lost if they are only on the iPod.

  • MISSING ITUNES SONGS AND HOW CAN YOU PUT SONGS FROM IPOD ONTO ITUNES?

i opened my itunes one day and all 654 of my songs were GONE. the entire itunes was blank, as if it was newly installed. it wasn't.
I have an ipod mini, and that still contains the songs since i did not attach my ipod to my computer when i saw that it was empty. my ipod still has 654 songs. But the problem is, that i wont be able to put new songs if my itunes is blank.
How do you transfer songs from the ipod to the itunes? Usually when you connect the ipod, it automatically updates, so how will i be able to do that. I have new CDs and i want to put some of those songs on my ipod, but i wont be able to do that if my itunes makes my ipod blank. I called apple support but it costs 29 freaking dollars to help me.
    Can anyone help?
      Windows XP

okay, well it has been a long time since i have done this, but i will try to do it to the best of my memory.
    uninstall itunes.
    then reinstall it.
    plug your ipod in.
a box will pop up that says something like would you like to connect your ipod to this library?
    click NO.
then, on the sidebar there should be a boldfaced DEVICE sign.
    your ipod should show up.
    go to summary
then check managely manage my music, and then update.
this means that when you plug your ipod in, you will have to put the music in yourself. this is good because you can pick and choose, and you can delete songs off your ipod if you do not like it anymore. also, you have the ability to play the music on your computer when your ipod is plugged in. hope that helps..

  • Can you shuffle songs in a playlist?

I was just wondering if anyone knows if you can randomly shuffle songs in a playlist. I have all my music divided up by Genre and sometimes I want to listen to one rather than the other. When I hit shuffle songs, it goes back to the entire library and shuffles all the songs. Thanks for the help.

Go into settings and turn shuffle on to Songs. Once
you turn shuffle on, if you select the playlist name
and hit play the playlist will play shuffled.
If you go into the playlist (so you can see each
song) and play it it won't shuffle. This hosed me
into thinking shuffle didnt't work when I first got
    my ipod.
    Thank you! That worked!

  • Can you clip songs when you're making a slideshow in iPhoto?

I'm trying to create a slide show and I want one song to play for the first half and another for the second. Can I cut off the first song before it ends?

AFAIK, not within iPhoto; however there is third party software available to do that. Also, I've never used Garageband, but you might take a look at it. As for third party, I use Sound Studio, but there is also Audacity (free):
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
(don't forget to fade it in and out to make it sound better).
P.S. I'm going to ask the hosts to delete your duplicate post....

  • How do you (or can you) play songs from your ipod on itunes?

Im trying to play my the songs on my iPod with itunes that I just installed on my friends laptop. The problem is, the place where it says Charles's (me) Laptop, the songs are all grayed out and I cant select any of them.

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. Check out the links below and make the change on your own computer before you connect it to the second one:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing Your Songs Manually
    Some additional info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
