Can you connect a Mac to a windows network

I was wanting to know if it is possible for a Mac to access our servers securely. The Mac was connected before but that was because it was an unsecure server but that has been fixed and since then the Mac no longer connects

Hi Zachary,
I believe what you are looking for is to force a mobile account creation at logon. This at least allows me to log into my Mac with my AD credentials whether I'm connected to the network or not.
To do this, go to System Preferences and then Users and Groups. Then select Login Options and authenticate to make changes. Click "Edit" next to Network Account Server then click Open Directory Utility. Authenticate in the Directory Utility and click "Active Directory" and then click the edit pencil icon thing. Expand the Advanced Options section and click "Create mobile account at login". Log out and then log back in as the user while connected to AD, and this should cache the password for usage offline.

it seems that they will pair but as soon as the mac has connected it automatically dissconnects
i was informed in the apple store before i bought it that it would be ok

The USB port on the Time Capsule is used only to connect a hard drive.
Connect your Mac using an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule if you do not want to use wireless.

  • Can't connect my Mac to my Windows 2003 server shares via SMB

    Hello all
So my problem is I have my Powerbook running 10.4.7 with all the latest security updates and I cannot connect it to any shares on my Windows 2003 domain controller. Everything was working fine and I could connect to the server with no problem till about a month ago. However, I can still connect to the Windows 2000 domain controller with no problem. The error I get when trying to connect is "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct". I did try clearing out my keychain, making sure all of the authentication policies on the server are correct (disabling the digitally sign commucations always policy), and I even went as far as editing a .conf file in /etc/ folder that allows for passwords to be sent without any encryption (I forget exactly what I changed but I can post that later when I get home from work) and none of this has worked. I unfortunately don't have another mac to test out connecting to the Windows 2003 server. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do to try and get this issue resolved?

TO share out as afp you need to have file and print services for macintosh installed on the 2k3 Server.
O n the main management console click on the shares icon on the left. then click the "link" create a share. The wizard will guide you through the process. i forget the order of progression but i beleive its the second or third part in the dialog it will have 2 check boxes, the top one checked by default, is to share it for windows/smb the second (lower box) is to share as AFP for mac check this box and change the share name if you like. then proceed through the rest of the wizard. Make sure you configure the security/sharing prefs for access.. we typically remove the everyone policy and add one for Authenitcated Users, and ofcourse Administrators.

  • How can I connect two macs in the same network?

Both are connected to the same network. One via ethernet and the other via Wifi (Airport Extreme). Both share the same Internet conection. I have followed instructions for files sharing. I can access only the computer linked to my home network via ethernet, but not the other way. It does not found the server address provided in file sharing by the computer conected via Wifi. Any clue? Can it be that the IP address of the Wifi conected is DCHP?

Are you using Connect to Server or Shared sidebar in the Finder? What OS X versions do the two machines run?

  • Can I connect my mac to two separate networks at once

I have a macbook at a workplace. I need to access one set of resources via an ethernet cable, another set of resources via airport. In order to access one or the other, I either unplug the ethernet or switch off the wifi. Is there a way I can keep both connections alive and map out which resources are to be found at which connection?

Here's what I have to do:
On the ethernet via USB bridge, I want to mount various Windows Shares via SAMBA. I mounted one of these drives and tried "get info," but just got stuck in "fetching" more info in the get info box, so I could not find the IP.
Also on the ethernet via USB bridge, I want to access one website external to my workplace that maps back to our workplace's IP address to verify authenticity. I don't know how to find the IP of a website using Yosemite (didn't there used to be a network utility?)
Also on the ethernet via USB bridge, I want to access a few internal sharepoint sites on windows servers and one Intranet website. No idea on how to get IPs from these.
Via the Airport connection, I want to see the just about anything else out there. We use office365, so mail & calendaring work fine via the wifi.
I am more or less the only Macintosh in my work place of nearly two hundred thousand PCs, so tech support is not exactly strong.

  • Mac vs. Windows Network Compatability

I finally talked my mother into switching from M$ to a Mac, and she loves the new iBook. Here's the dilemma though: she has to connect to a private intranet for work, and the Mac keeps having problems. Safari won't seem to work, nor will Firefox, so I (grudgingly) downloaded Explorer and the newest JavaScript updates. The site will let you connect and sign on, but when you try to access your personal data, it keeps giving me a JavaScript error. Help me out here, if she can't connect to this site that she needs for work she's threatening to switch back to Windows. Anyone else tried to connect a Mac to a Windows network? Solutions...?

The company's Intranet site is most likely Windows-centric. Being an Intranet site, it was probably grown in-house by folks who may or may not have the technical skill to make the site truly HTML standards compliant. My company's Intranet site heavily favors IE for Windows and the only browser on a Mac that can view it properly is IE. Safar, Firefox and other browsers fail simply because they adhere more closely to HTML standards.
It's not a Mac versus Windows issue, but probably due to lazy HTML coding and no cross-platform testing.
Unfortunately, IE for Mac is officially dead as of December 31, 2005. See this link: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/internetexplorer/internetexplorer.aspx?pid =internetexplorer
You might check into getting Virtual PC for Mac: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=virtualpc
It's not fast, but if all your Mom needs to do is connect to an Intranet site, it may be just fine.
Better yet, if she can access a Windows XP Professional system at work, she can use the Remote Desktop Client from her Mac: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=remotedesktopc lient
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Can I connect my Mac (Mac OS X) with other machine (Windows OS) on same LAN using telnet in terminal? For example, telnet ip address of other machine

Can I connect my Mac (Mac OS X) with other machine (Windows OS) on same LAN using telnet in terminal?
For example, telnet <ip address of other machine>
I m a networking student and I have learned to connect 2 machines on Red hat Linux OS on same Ethernet LAN which has same subnet mask. As Mac OS X is also a linux based OS I m trying to connect my Mac with my friends windows based machine using telnet <ip address of his machine>. However, I get a message "unable to connect to remote host".
Can anyone please tell me is this the problem because of different OS or it is something different!
Please reply...it will of great help..

The machine you're trying to connect to needs a Telnet server running on it - telnetd listening on port 23 (usually).
Incidentally, Mac OS X is not a Linux based OS, it is based on BSD Unix.

How can I connect my Mac Book Pro (year 2008) to the TV set through  HDMI? I've seen a DVI to HDMI iwire but I'm no sure that it is correct. Could anyone help me? Thank you very much.

I do not know the iWire adapter, but I use an inexpensive ($3) DVI to HDMI adapter from Monoprice, along with a regular HDMI cable:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041902 &p_id=2029&seq=1&format=2
Be aware that this will only transfer video. You Macbook Pro cannot combine audio through DVI to HDMI. You will need to listen to the audio through the Mac speakers, or attach speakers or a sound system to the Mac earphone jack, or determine if your TV has the ability to accept external sound from the Mac while showing video through HDMI (few can).

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this - do you mena connect to the Mac to access streaming media or perhaps you were wondering if the AppleTV can behave as a wireless extender to give network access to the PS3 - it can't.
If you are looking for media server solutions there are several available that run on Mac, some free some commercial.

Hi, likely you can, but which 23" is it, one requires an expensive DVI-> ADC connector, not the cheaper ADC->DVI connector, the later one has DVI already.
Then it depends what output your Gateway has for Video.

Can you connect iPad to Mac mini, Can you connect iPad to Mac mini?

Every Mac Mini has a USB port. Every Mac Mini can run iTunes. The only catch is that you need to be running Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) or later. So in general, yes, an iPad can connect to a Mac Mini.

Of course. As both have Thunderbolt, it's as simple as buying a Thunderbolt cable, connect them and press Command and F2 keys on the iMac, so the iMac will be used as an external display for the MacBook Air. If you want more information, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
