Can you connect a Time Capsule to Macbook with USB cable?

I have a 2nd generation TC that I was using as a storage device. I used to be able to connect to it wirelessly and send files there for storage. Now I can no longer do that. It does not show up in my devices. I also tried to hook up via USB and when I do that I can not connect then either. Am I doing something wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated. I have about 50 gb of photos and home video stored on here that I can't get to anymore. I am running
OS X 10.8.4  for my system.

You cannot connect to a TC by USB.. it is now and forever a network drive not a local or external disk.
The best way to access it is to plug in by ethernet.. factory reset the TC and see if you can access it just like that.. otherwise set it to bridge mode and plug in to the main router.
Tell us if you still have issues.
Note a Gen2 is getting pretty old.. it has to have front led at least blinking amber to be working.. many are dead.. many are about to die.. some have dead hard disks.

  • Can I connect to Time Capsule Hard Drive via USB cable?

I'm having trouble connecting to a five year old Time Capsule Wirelessly.  Indeed, I just bought a brand new one.  But I need to connect to the old one's hard drive to recover lost files.  Can I connect to it via USB?

No, USB is only for printer and usb external drive.. not a connection to the internal drive.
Use ethernet.. if that doesn't work, open the TC and remove the hard and use a USB drive box.

  • Can't connect to Time Capsule after MacBook has been closed

    Hey guys,
While ago I bought a 2TB Time Capsule to back-up my movies and music to, because my MacBook Air only has a small SSD.
It worked fine for a while but now I'm experiencing some problems. Everytime I close my MacBook and open it again, it can't connect to the Time Capsule anymore. I have to reboot the macbook and then it works again. Any idea how I can fix this? I also connected my iMac in the other room to it but I don't think that should be the problem.
    Greets and thanks

    Give this a try:
    1. Start AirPort Utility, then let it remain open.  You can hide it but do not quit,
    2. System Preferences>Energy Saver>Power Adapter>uncheck "Wake for access".
    Any improvement?

  • Can you force a time capsule firmware update via usb?

I have an Apple Time capsule that appears to have corrupted firmware. The capsule never gets through startup (status light is permanently solid amber), it doesn't respond to a hard reset, and isn't visible via LAN from my computer. My best guess a solution was to somehow force a firmware install to the device using the USB port. Does anyone know if this is possible? Or have another idea for how I can solve this problem?
    Thanks

Answered in your other thread. It is not firmware corruption.

  • Can I connect my Time Capsule wired to the computer and just use it as a back up

Can I connect my Time Capsule to my computer (wired) and just use it as a back up and not as a wireless router?

Yes, you simply bridge the TC..
Just google for it as we have posted the instructions endlessly.
The one trick that might be necessary is to ensure the TC is on a different IP range to the main broadband connection.
And make sure the gateway and dns do not cause issues.. so it is generally better to set static ip on the TC and the computer.
None of it is hard so ask for specific instructions if you get to the point.

  • Can i connect my time capsule to my hdtv for use as an extra display for my mac book pro?

I want to use my hdtv as a display wirelessly.  Can one connect their time capsule to the tv?

    1. Can my TC handle "dual band" wifi or not? As it's 3 years old, I'm not sure the spec is sufficient.
They have been dual band since gen2.. yours is gen4 or at worst gen3.
    2. Is the TC likely to provide better performance than the BT Home Hub router, as the Apple store suggest?
Impossible to say.. but easy to test.. simply plug the TC into the BT router in bridge mode and use it with setup to create a wireless network.. that is the way I would suggest anyway.
    3. Will the BT wifi extender still work if the TC is the main router? BT aren't sure, hence asking here.  "Trial and error" will take hours and because of the wifi issues in my house, can be frustrating.
Sorry this is out of my perview.. I can suggest it will be poor.. apple do not use standard settings for extend wireless.. and if it is universal repeater they also behave poorly.. Have you thought of using EOP adapters.. very popular in the UK and tend to work much better than wireless.
    4. Would the BT wifi extender communciate with the TC or the BT Home Hub router?
As suggested above.. leave the BT as the main router and plug the TC bridged into it.. you can then use both..
simply set the wireless names different and keep the channels apart.
    For 2.4ghz there are only 3 non-overlapping channels.. 1, 6, 11 or 13 as alternative in UK.
For 5ghz there are lots more but the lower channels work better.. so 36-48 depending on regs in the UK.

  • Can I connect my Time Capsule using Verizon FIOS

Can I connect my Time Capsule directly to Verizon FIOS connection?

    Suyiitapi wrote:
So I have to use Verizon's router first and cannot go directly into Time Capsule then.  Corrrect?
I am not sure we are talking about the same thing..
The FIOS is a full router.
You plug the TC into the FIOS by ethernet.. WAN TC, LAN FIOS.
Then you plug your computer into TC or FIOS.. or you can use TC wireless or FIOS wireless.. both will connect to both TC and internet. But generally for high speed backups, you will be better connecting directly to the TC.. whether by wireless or ethernet.

  • I can't connect my time capsule to kpn experia box

I used my time capsule without any problems for some time now, but I have moved and changed provider. Somehow I can't connect the time capsule to the KNP experia box. At first the Time Capsule is not detected, only when I do a hard reset it comes up. Then I give the PPPoE details, the timecapsule restarts and : unexpected error has occured, please try again. When i do try again I get an error almost immediatly.
I have an time capsule 6.1.
    Any one know a solution?

You do not use PPPoE on that box.. just bridge the TC.
In airport utility 6.1 go to the network page.. and select bridge instead of NAT.

  • Can i connect my time capsule with my router as a bridge ?

can i connect my time capsule with my router as a bridge ?

I am a bit lost .. did you work this out?? You are running a second thread.. and answered it with this question.
The TC can be bridged.. plug it into the main router by ethernet and run it in bridge mode.. that is router bridge.
    Do you mean wireless bridge??
If you mean wireless bridge the answer is maybe but unlikely.
If you setup the TC to join a wireless network.. it becomes a dumb client not a bridge.
So to get it to wireless bridge you need to use another apple router.. that is the only way to get them to work.
If you want specifics ask specific questions.

I have an Airport Time Capsule, 3TB which I use for Time Machine backups.  Can I connect the Time Capsule using USB cable from the TC to my 27" iMac desktop Computer?  Is that the most efficient way or is there a more efficient way?  Please advise.

I can't connect to Time Capsule- error message: Backup disk is not available. Was working fine before.

Restart it.. Does this all the time with Lion and even worse ML.
Restart the whole network if that doesn't work.. do it in correct order.. from off.. modem.. TC.. clients 2min gap.

  • I just purchased two Macbook Air along with two Time Capsule (2TB) for my kids. Meanwhile I use a sagemcom ADLS modem/router for home use. Can I connect both Time Capsule and laptop which will allow both laptop to have their own backup system?

I want both of the computers to have their own independent time capsule.

want both of the computers to have their own independent time capsule.
I assume that you are asking about using the Time Capsules for Time Machine backups here, correct?
If yes, both MBAs will be able to select the specific Time Capsule that they will use for backups, so "point" MBA1 to Time Capsule 1 and MBA2 to Time Capsule 2.
Since you will have plenty of available backup space if you use two Time Capsules, you might want to consider having each MBA back up to both Time Capsule 1 and Time Capsule 2.
This way, if one Time Capsule fails, you will still have a complete set of backups for both MBAs.

  • Can't connect to Time Capsule + no 802.11n support

I just got my new 13" MacBook (late 2008). Originally, I thought I couldn't connect to my wireless N router which happens to be Apple Time Machine. According to network utility program, my MacBook only supports a/b/g - this is not right! Now, I discover that in addition to the N problem I can't even connect to my Time Capsule wirelessly! Good thing I have 2 separate wireless routers (linksys).
My other Macs (white MacBook and 20" iMac) have no problem connecting to Time Capsule over 802.11n. Both machine indicates 802.11n support under network utility program.
Compound this problem with stuck 'a' key on my keyboard.
I really, don't get this problem. I spent an hour with Apple tech with no avail. I am thinking about returning this new MacBook.

I have the exact same problem you have described. Unable to find a solution. Odd because I have a 2007 MacBook Pro and it works fine wirelessly. Wireless-N on the MacBook works fine and it can connect to other wireless networks, just not it's home one.
