Can you create a form that you can save to disk?

I created a form for a client. While testing, I got a prompt that the file cannot be saved when completed. It can only be printed. What I'm trying to do is create an estimate form for my client he can fill and save. He then can email or print the form to get client approval. Thanks in advance.

Hello graffiti,
You can send out as many forms as you wish however you can only collect responses from 500 recipients according to the EULA:
16.8.3 For any unique Extended Document you may only either (a) Deploy such Extended Document to an unlimited number of unique recipients but shall not extract information from more than five hundred (500) unique instances of such Extended Document or any hardcopy representation of such Extended Document containing filled form fields; or (b) Deploy such Extended Document to no more than five hundred (500) unique recipients without limits on the number of times you may extract information from such Extended Document returned to you filled-in by such recipients. Notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, obtaining additional licenses to use Acrobat Standard, Acrobat Pro, or Adobe Acrobat Suite shall not increase the foregoing limits (that is, the foregoing limits are the aggregate total limits regardless of how many additional licenses to use Acrobat Standard, Acrobat Pro, or Adobe Acrobat Suite you may have obtained).
If Mr. Met is going to receive back in excess of 500 responses then indeed he would need to get the Reader server product.

Can you have a form that you create in forms central a routable form?

    Hi;
There isn't anything specifically to route a form in FormsCentral but I have proposed to a few users they could take advantage of the new "Save Web Form" feature and by instructing users in the form how to route it would be able to accomplish a routing "work flow": http://forums.adobe.com/message/5917475#5917475

I want to be able to fill out the form and it place itself into Sheet 1 without changing everytime.  I can index the array from the form, but it changes everytime.

You think it would be the other way around.
Just speculation, but forms probably came to iOS first because of likely use for data entry in the field that syncs back to the Mac.  On a small screen with a touch interface, forms make inputing values easier.
On the Mac, with its bigger screen, typing directly into a data table often works well enough.

  • I want to create a form that i can drop pictures in a certain place

i want to create a form that i can drop pictures into

Unfortunately Formscentral does not support drag and drop pictures into your form. If you want to form filler submit their images with other form data, you can use file attachment field. Add an file attachment field when design form, so that form filler can add their image file into it and submit with other form data.

  • Does anyone know the best way to create a form that you can do a mail merge with?

I have been asked to create a form that can be used to do a mail merge. At first I thought I could create it in indesign and then pdf the file and do form fields right in the pdf, but I'm not sure if you can do a mail merge with data in an excel file and a pdf file containing form fields.
The other option I know I could use is a Word file and excel, but I don't think the functionality is as good as in a pdf (like addition of percentages, or error messages, radio buttons, etc.). And I do need to be able to do a mail merge. Anybody have any suggestions?

There is not built-in feature for this, but it can be done with scripting. The problem is it can be a bit complicated, and it more complicated to decribe in much detail in a forum posting. It involves creating the base form and making the pages templates. You can export from Excel to a tab delimited text file. You can then either programmatically create a template-based FDF that when loaded into Acrobat populates the PDF form, creating as many individual forms as needed, or using JavaScript in Acrobat to read the data file and generate as many individual forms as needed. Both approaches involve a similar amount of programming, but they're quite different.
You might want to look into this product, which apparently is no longer available but may be come back soon: http://www.debenu.com/products/eol/arts-pdf-variform-lite/

  • Can I create a form that doesn't trigger Acrobat's JavaScript disabled / security issues warning?

    Hello,
Can I create a pdf that doesn't trigger Acrobat's JavaScript is currently disabled and this document uses it for some features.  Enabling JavaScript can lead to potential security issues.
I even get this error when I create a blank pdf.
I'm not using any JavaScript in the form and the nature of the message might tend to be a bit scary to some people since it mentions enabling JS can lead to potential security issues.  I basically want to disable the messaging of a feature I'm not even using.
Anyone know if this is possible and if so, how I go about it?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    I too share your frustration!!
Unfortunately I do not have a complete answer for you.
From the start I must say that Stefan Cameron has been very helpful (http://forms.stefcameron.com/2010/01/14/acrobatreader-9-3-now-available/), however I have not had sufficient time available to deal with the issue (or find a satisfactory resolution).
The original post that Srini shared with you related to an XFA form that had FormCalc and Javascript in it. I will now share with you another situation that is closer to your experiences.
Sometimes where we have a complex solution/form, we often give our users a PDF with instructions and demonstrations. We generate these using Adobe products:
    LiveCycle Designer ES to generate the solution/form;
    Captivate to record the demonstration (.swf);
Acrobat to package it up in a static PDF.
The screen shots below are from a PDF that includes written instructions and six Flash (.swf) files. The PDF does NOT include fields/form objects and does NOT include any FormCalc or Javascript.
One of the big sells in Acrobat 9 was that Adobe had fully integrated Flash (Adobe product, ex. Macromedia) into Acrobat 9. This mean that .swf files could run natively inside a PDF. Brilliant!!!  The website today is still pushing this message, for example:
Now bear in mind that the following screenshots are from a PDF that does not contain any scripting - its sole purpose is to "inform" the user, "look as good as the work I put into it", incorporate instruction and "multimedia" in a "single polished file" and I should be "confident that my audience will be able to view my work exactly as intended".
    Not so!!
When the user now opens the form, all looks OK. No warning. They can read the instructions and scroll down to the multimedia (.swf files).
However when the user clicks on the multimedia, the yellow bar appears:
I go through the "trust" process:
And the PDF looks like it is OK, no yellow bar. When I click on the multimedia, it begins to play - yes!! BUT ONLY FOR A SECOND OR TWO AND THEN IT STOPS AND GOES BACK TO THE START - AGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!. I would apologise for shouting, but this is beyond frustration. The work in capturing six screencasts in Captivate, annotating them, publishing to .swf and packaging up in Acrobat has been a complete waste of time. Worse than that I now have several PDFs out there, that do not work. Good advertisement for my business? I don't think so!!
The document that Stefan provided (Managing JavaScript Execution in the Acrobat Family of Products) does not mention Flash/.swf as being a problem. However I would recommend that you go through this document, as it may help you.
So, where to now? I don't know. The previous posts and Stefan's responses have several urls that may help. You should maybe consider logging your experiences as a bug (log at Adobe).
    In the meantime good luck,
    Niall
    UPDATE:
This behaviour (.swf playing for only a few seconds) happens in PDFs where the .swf is inserted as legacy media to run in earlier versions of Acrobat/Reader. In this case Acrobat/Reader is making an external call to Flash Player. Hence the yellow bar. However it does not explain why the Flash video still does not play when trusted.
If the .swf is added into the PDF as Flash media to run on Acrobat 9 and above, then it works without displaying the yellow warning bar.
So maybe any feature of your PDF that calls an external resource is likely to show the yellow warning bar.

  • How to create a form that people can fill out

I'm creating forms using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro with the goal  being to save the form on a network drive so users may access the form,  fill out the form fields and save the file. Currently, users are not  able to complete the form; it requires them to print out the form in  order to complete. I am very techno-ignorant, so I sure that it is user  error. Any guidance towards resources or assistance would be greatly  appreaciated

    In order:
    - have they Acrobat Reader, and are they able to use it?
    - are your form correct? (permissions settings, etc etc)
    - Are you creating your form from zero or from another documents?

  • How do you create a form that has user permissions per form field for different user?

I need to create a form that is used by multi people but each user needs to fill out different fields within the form. I need the first user to make selections from a list and save it to send to another (the selection fields then need to be locked). Then the other user checks one of the selections made by the first user and saves the document to send back to the first user. Not sure if this is possible. I would like the first form field selections not to even show as a highlighted field to the other user (like just be more like a text field). I want the document to be able to be used more than once. The list selections will change and need to be sent to the other user at least once a month or more. Has anyone done this?

There's no built-in way to do that, but it's probably doable using a custom-made script to hide and/or lock the fields.

  • How can you edit a form that you've already created?

I'm not referring to the form fields. I mean if you have a typo for example in the docuyment you created from InDesign and now you need to go back and correct it. How can you do that and maintain all the fields you've already created?
If you're not able to do this, that would be a huge flaw in the workflow.

Oh my gosh. That is so simple. I'm embarrassed that I even asked the question.
    Thanks very much!!
No need to be embarrassed. That gets a lot of people. Most assume (and I did too at one point) that replace pages does that, replaces the page and everything on it.

  • Can I create a form that allows users the ability to add fields?

I would like to create an asset order form I can host on my company's intranet. I would like to give the users the ability to add additional fields per item they request rather than provide them with a limited amount of fields. For example, the template available from Formscentral has 5 dropdown selection boxes with predetermined supplies to choose from. My office receives requests for multiple, varying assets that I would not be able to list in generic dropdown selection boxes. I want to give users the freedom to enter item titles and provide URLs to online stores they would like me to purchase them from. I want my form to begin with two fields for this information and provide users with an add button that creates two additional fields for each additional item requested.

    Hi,
In Acrobat Form, you create a hidden Text Field which will only get visible on a Button click for inserting additional text.

  • Can I create a form that works on android devices?

I am trying to create an equipment inspection form that uses radio buttons and drop-downs that I can email to customers, download to a server and add attachments such as photos.  I would have an employee inspecting between 1 and 50 peices of equipment for an end user.  I would like to maintain some information on the form such as equipment location, S/N's, customer name etc. so we would not need to re-enter for each unit / inspection.

    Hi,
You can fill out forms on mobile devices. You cannot create/view responses on mobile devices.
We don't support maintaining information on the form between submits, so information would need to be reentered.
    Thanks

  • Create a form that user can fill online, print and not save.

I have form that I want user to fill out. I want them to send it via email or print and not save the information that was typed into it.
Where or how do you put that type of security?
    Thank you!
    Jim Z

through adobe policy server you can give only online access to the document(means that document will not be opened unless user is authenticated with the policy server) and assign policy to user to restrict him only printing and filling in form fields.
Also you can revoke that document after sometime.

Hi we have people that attend events that do not like to pay online they pat at the door - so they are not completing the registration form so we are getting emails for RSVPs as well as form data so this has created more of an issue for us than solved our registration process.

You can use skip logic to get the desired effect. If you have problems do it just reply back.

  • I am unable to create a form that I can move the fields in - using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro on a PC

I need to make fill-in forms with little space between questions.  Adobe Acrobat XI Pro does not allow me to alter fields and sizes as I need to.  Advice?

Is the Snap to Grid option ticked under View - Show/Hide - Rulers and Guides? If so, un-tick it.
