Can you create a password protected folder in your bookmarks in safari

When I open my "Popular" bookmarks folder, can I create a folder within it that is password protected (in other words you have to enter a password to open that folder and see the bookmarks within)?

Hello:
I do not know of a way to protect a single file.  However, you could consider encrypting your disk.  In that way, one would need your password to read any data:

PASSWORD PROTECTING A PAGE WITH A NICE BOX DESIGNED INTO YOUR PAGE
FINALLY, I'VE FOUND AN ANSWER TO PASSWORDING A PAGE OR SECTION WITH ADOBE MUSE WITH GREAT SIMPLICITY AND ALLOWING YOU TO 'DESIGN' THE PASSWORD BOX INTO YOUR PAGE!!!
Even better is that you don't HAVE to have username AND password (although you could if you wanted to), so just a simple PASSWORD box and enter button DESIGNED BY YOU WITHIN YOUR PAGE, rather than nasty popups etc.  Importantly, the password itself is NOT within the source code of your page either!!
The solution is at Jotform.com. I believe you can do this with a FREE ACCOUNT, although it's SUCH a great service for Musers that I paid for a proper account.
Before you do this, create a page on your site saying "Wrong Password. Please go away" or something to that effect. You'll need it for when they enter the wrong password.
So, in Jotform, you just create a new form and:
    1. Drag on a password box (it's in the power tools section)
    2. Select it and go to Conditions
    3. Go to Change Thank You URL after submission
    4. Enter: If [name of your password box] field EQUALS TO [enter your password]
    5. In the "Then redirect to" box, enter the URL of your protected page and click save
    6. In the resulting box click "ADD A NEW CONDITION" and do the SAME as stets 3 to 5 but this time say NOT EQUALS TO" with your same password and in the "Then redirect to" box, enter the URL of your WRONG PASSWORD page and click save
    7. Embed the button on your page and you're done!!!
If you want to mess about with the EXACT alignment of a right aligned button and text box, you can go to Preferences and in the box which allows you to add your own custom CSS, enter the following code and mess about with the values until it's perfect for you:
    .form-buttons-wrapper { padding-top:3px !important; }#id_2 {margin-left: -50px !important;}
Here's an example, built in Muse: www.hileytv.com/about.html
I hope this helps my fellow Musers!

  • Creating a password protected folder

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me with a little problem I can't seem to resolve, here goes................
I Have a Macbook for home use and a PC that I have to use at work. I have recently purchased a 128 MB keyfob USB drive for using to transfer files I make at home to my workplace PC. The device came with no driver CD as it stated on the box that it was plug&play for both PC & Mac. No security software was supplied with the device nor is there any security download available from the manufacturers website that is OS X compatible ( only XP compatible ).
Although I have XP running on my Mac via Bootcamp I haven't set it up to transfer files between the OS X & XP partitions.
Now I'm known for being a bit clumsy and have lost the odd set of keys or wallet in my time, so I'd like to make a secure password protected folder that I can copy onto the USB drive to dump files into so in the likely event of me losing the keyfob at least I'll know that sensitive files would have some level of protection.
I created a secure "locked" folder in my keychain protected home folder but when I dumped that folder onto the USB drive it appeared as unlocked and when I then subsequently connected the drive to my neighbours PC the folder in question was openly readable.
Does anyone out there in MacLand know of a fix-around for this little problem that doesn't involve to much £,$,yen,etc.....
Thanks for your time and hope you can help
    Cheers

The difficulty here is that the folder has to cross Platforms. It can easily be secured on the Mac and I'm sure on XP. However both...
My best suggestion is to google something like 'lock folder cross platform' It throws up several suggestions.

  • Can we create a password protected .folio file.

    Hi,
Is it possible to create a password protected .folio file, that could be read after password authentication from the Content Viewer iPad app.

You currently cannot password protect the folio directly, however if you have DPS Enterprise Edition, you can use restricted distribution: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishingsuite/articles/restricted-distribution-with-d igital-publishing-suite.html

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 - How many Calendar Items/Folders can you create under "all public folder"

    Hi,
Is there a limitation on how many calendar items/folders you can create under "all public folder" in Exchange 2010 SP3?
    Thank you

I don't believe you can create calendar items under the root folder, but it's been so long since I worked with a system that had public folders that I'm not sure.  If you mean "a folder that can contain calendar items", that is not a calendar
    item itself.
Now, I believe your underlying question is, "How many folders can be created at the root level of the public folder hierarchy?"  If so, there is no simple limit that I know of (you can have thousands, if you really want), but management gets
pretty unruly with the more that you have.  I normally recommend that you create sub-folders to logically meet your requirements, then have each of these with more folders (normally that only specific groups of users will be able to access or add items
to).  And anyone will tell you that you want to restrict anyone from creating their own folders at the root level.  In fact, this is the default setting for a new Exchange 2010 installation.
I'll add that you really should stop trying to use public folders, since there are newer technologies (SharePoint, for instance) that work much better and are much easier to use.

  • How to Password Protect folder on your mac?

    Hello,
I have tried to do some research on this topic but cannot find the exact answer I was hoping for. I am trying to password protect a folder on my computer so that no one can access it without my password. I have tried the "Disk Image" method, but what this does is copy/clone my original file and creates a new one under the disk image icon. this creates 2 of the very same files on the same computer, my original unprotected folder and the new password protected folder. however I do not want to go this route. I want to just password protect my original folder and skip the copying/cloning of it. Saves me time and I do not have to worry about deleted the unprotected password folder.
Is there another way of password protecting a folder besides Disk Image?
And since I am talking about Disk Image here, what is the difference between 128-bit AES encryption (recommended) VS the 256-bit AES encryption
I see that it says it is more securs but slower but ultimately what does it mean by more secure? password is a password?
    Thank You,
    -SA

Might be a third-party app, but why? Disk Image will do exactly what you want.

If would take one billion billion years to crack 128Bit using Brute Force...more time than the age of the Universe...thus 256Bit is not needed.

    • go to step 3
2a. To encrypt an existing folder..
    • Go to...Images>New>Image from Folder.
    • In the dialog window, select the folder and press "Open"
    3. Type and/or select from popup window .....
    • Name • location • Format
    • Size (no size option for folder)
    • Encryption .....AES-128 must be selected
    4. Click the "Create" button ..... or if Image from folder was used, click "Save"
    5. Enter and verify your password when prompted and click "OK".
    6. The .dmg will appear on the desktop and the left pane of Disk Utility.
•Important...If you forget the password, the data stored will be lost.If you save your password in the keychain file, it will be available to you there.
An easy way to password-protect certain folders
To password protect a specific folder in any version of OS X, if you're an administrator, simply change the permissions in the "Get Info" box so that the folder is owned by the system. You'll be prompted for a password. To access the folder again, just change the ownership back - and it will require a password to be made accessible.
Secret Folder lets you conceal a folder and its contents.

  • Can we create a Password Protected Zip file

    Hi,
Can we set a password to a zip file using java code.
This zip file may be extracted / opened using any third party utility such as Winzip, 7Zip etc

Java can create zip files but cannot do password protection. You need to use some native java library or JNI calls. Refer to [http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=619940] or [http://code.google.com/p/winzipaes/]

  • Can you restrict or password protect podcasts?

I would like to do a podcast but would like to be able to restrict or password protect it. Is this possible? if not are there any other options?
    Thxs.

Yes if you have a program that allows you to set a password on the PDF file or you ZIP it with a password set on it. For that you wouild also need a ZIPping program that allows you to set a password. Adobe Acrobat does, not sure about Acrobat reader. And there may be other PD creator programs that allow a password to be set.
But with a password set, either on the PDF or a ZIP file, the person you are sending it to would need to know the password to even open it for viewing. Maybe you are looking to Lock the PDF from being edited?

  • Can I create a password protected website for photos?

I'd like viewers to be able to purchase prints of website photos. Is this possible?
    Thank you,
    Kiran

You could certainly password protect your photos by putting your photo page in a separate site and password protecting it.
Here's how to make it appear to be part of the rest of the site:
    http://web.mac.com/varkgirl/iWeb/Aardvarkland/Nav%20Bar.html
But as far as purchasing the photos... well that isn't really possible in iWeb. You could add paypal buttons or something post-publishing. Or you could link to an outside site where people could purchase the photos...
