Can you delete "Originals" folder after importing photos from iPhoto to LR3?

Hello,
I just imported all my photos from iPhoto to LR3 by making an Alias folder (copy) of my iPhoto Originals folder. Shortly after that I received a message that my Start-up disk is nearly full, which I presume is because I duplicated my iPhoto library. I want to free up my storage and curious if it's okay to delete my iPhoto Originals folder. Or will that delete or cause problems with the Alias folder that LR3 is reading?
Any insight would be appreciated.
Cheers
Bill

Bill,
I wouldn't do anything rash, if I were you. "Alias" sounds like not a real copy, but some kind of virtual copy, with just pointers to the originals. In that case, deleting the originals will leave you without any images. Try renaming one of the images in the folder you want to delete. If that image shows up in Lightroom with a "?" on its thumbnail, then you most definitely don't want to delete that folder.

  • Using Windows8, how can you change which program to import photos from iphone?

When I bought a Windows8 PC (Lenovo Yoga) and synched iphone the first time, it defautled to the Photo App on my PC.  I no longer seem to get the pop up window I used to get under Windows7 asking me if it should use the default program to select and import photos.  Now it directly opens the photo app and asks which to import.  I'm sure its there somewhere but I can't find any way to change which tool is used.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can you send an email with multiple photos from iPhoto in reduced size?

I want to send an email with multiple photos attached with a reduced size. How do I accomplish this?

    Hi Igmatteson,
If you are using regular Mac Mail, and you are on Mountain Lion, this is what I can do:
    1. Go into Mail, and start a new message
    2. At the top, you will see 4 icons - the third one over brings up the Photo Browser from iPhoto
    3. Go through your pics and select the one you want and drag it onto the mail page
    4. Once you have done that, a small bar on the right-hand side will show up that will allow you to select whether you want the image size to be small, medium, or large. Once you select a size, all photos you add will be that same size.
    Hope this works for you!
    Cheers,

  • How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How to access iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
    1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
    2. Control-click the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
    3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
    4. Control-click the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
    6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop.
7  Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.

  • How can i import photos from iphoto 9.2.3 to 9.6

I am migrating from a 2009 ibook to a Macbook pro 13.3 retina. How can  can I import photos from iPhoto 9.2.3 library to  the 9.6 iPhoto.
I am running 10.6.8 snow leopard on the ibook which has 4Gb of memory.
I tried but it just loaded icons to the 9.6 library.
I am reluctant to go to Yosimite on the ibook and it seems this would not solve it anyway.

You don't import one library to another.  Just copy the library from the iBook to the Pictures folder on shout new MacBook Pro. If you have another library already on the MBP rename it so you don't overwrite it with the old library.
Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the newly copied library and let iPhoto convert it to the new version.
Do you have photos in the library on the new MacBook Pro that you want to combine with the older library?

  • Importing photos from iphoto into idvd

I am trying to import photos from iphoto into idvd for a slideshow. When the photos move into idvd they are not in the same order as they were in the iphoto library. What could be the possible cause of this?? I did go into iphoto and place comments in after the fact. Would that have anything to do with it?

Try this possible solution from acgray on Mac OS X Hints:
I have worked with many users who like to take iPhoto albums and make DVDs of them with iDVD. However, one very annoying bug (feature?) has to do with the fact that when you are in iDVD, it randomizes the sort order of the Photos in your album. Not only that, but it is painstaking and time consuming changing the order in iDVD.
    My solution..
Select All in the album in iPhoto you want to use in iDVD as a slideshow. Then use File -> Export -> File Export. The secret is to select "Use Album Name" as this will rename the images in sequential order, based on the order that you put them in. Save them in their own new folder somehwere easy to find (ie on the Desktop).
Then, in iDVD, either drag, or I believe you can import the entire folder into the Slideshow project window, and voila! your slides are in order. I believe you can throw away the folder with the exported images as they should now be saved into the Project, but don't quote me on that.

  • Iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5.  Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgraded application.

iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5.  Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgrader application.  Repeatedly says it can't locate photos even when told to cancel.  I think the photos in question are in Nikon RAW format.

iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
You need to do the following:
1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.

  • Dropbox "Import Photos from iPhoto" Killing HD Space?

I just up-graded to 1 TB Dropbox Pro account (Dropbox 2.10.41, Yosemite 10.10) and hoped that "Import Photos from iPhoto" (under preferences -> import) would be a great way of backing-up my iPhoto library without the hick-ups reported in this forum when moving the library folder to a dropbox folder.
It seems though that now all my photos are not only copied to the cloud but also duplicated on my local hard drive
Right or wrong? If right, that would be ridiculous because it would kill HD space unnecessarily, wouldn't it?

Thank you for your prompt response!
I am aware that Dropbox is not a feature of iPhoto, and I have spent considerable time researching the web to find an answer to my question before posting here - but I didn't find an answer.
I also found the link on aurelio.net which you have posted, but even after reading it twice, it does not seem to answer the question of duplicating photos on the local HD.
I highly appreciate the quality of this forum with an outstanding level of expertise, and I thought the expert Mac users might be able (and willing) to provide some advice even if Dropbox is not an Apple product.

  • Import photos from iphoto to LR5?

How do you import photos from iphoto to Lr5?

The first step is to find out where are your images stored. Go to Applications/iPhoto and right-click on “show package
You should now be able to see the iPhoto “library.”
The next step is to decide if you want to keep the images where they are or move them to a new location. Using Adobe Lightroom you can accomplish both tasks. You can MOVE the images to a fast and reliable external hard drive or onto your computer hard drive in an “images” folder (or whatever you have called you parent folder for all your images).
In Adobe Lightroom’s Import dialog, navigate to the folder that contains you iPhoto Library, make sure MOVE is selected, and select the new destintion on the drive you want to move them to (the External or your Hard drive)
The pictures will be MOVED from the iPhoto location, and imported  through Lightroom.

  • HT204414 how to merge my iPhoto Library into my Photos System Library or how to import photos from iPhoto to Photos?

Can anyone tell me how to merge my iPhoto Library into my Photos System Library or how to import photos from iPhoto to Photos?

How many did you trash at one go? iPhoto will baulk and possibly corrupt if you try trash too many at one go. Expereinced users recommend getting rid of them in batches of about 100 or so.
What's your plan for the remaining images in the iPhoto Library (the 2k photos and 4 videos)?

  • When trying to import photos from iPhoto organizer 12 crashes

I installed new photoshop elements 12 and when It attempted to import photos from iphoto 9.5.1 it get to the 7th picture and then locks up, I have to force quit app. What can the problem be? I tried importing a few photos and it worked ok, I attempted to import using files and folders and it locked up again.

You're sure you want to stop using iphoto? Then I would try it this way instead:
Export each event in your iphoto library separately, put the photos where you want to keep them and use "from files and folders". If there's an event that the organizer chokes on, then you'll have to go into that one photo by photo to see where the problem lies. (You are aware that using "from iphoto" is duplicating your entire iphoto library, so you don't want to do that AND keep using iphoto, right?)
